This project started when we signed the contract on June 3, 2011, for eight window replacements and two odd shaped half moons over two of the windows. Salesman told us 4-6 weeks after final measure (which was approx. a month later). I told the salesman and the final measure person that they were not standard shapes an they neede to make a template. The final measure person didn't feel it was necessary and just measured points on the windows. The fist attempt to install them was mid-August. They replaced 6 windows then replaced the seventh and went to install the half moon over it and it was a standard half moon window that was not even close to the opening so the installers had to makeshift a window from the one they had cut out and seal it the best they could until the right ones arrived. They also drew a template of the half moon for accuracy. I contacted the office and spoke with Allison and then Alan (Branch Manager) complaining that I told then they were not standard half moons and the measuring was done incorrectly. Alan said they measured correctly but the manufacturer sent the wrong windows. I asked him to contact the manufacturer and have them ship the correct windows but he said they would have to re-order. Alan evidently "misspoke" about the measuring being correct otherwise, why reorder? Next he said he would put a rush on it and we will have them in 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks passed, I called again and Allison told me that the half moon windows always take 4-6 weeks. Alan "misspoke" again. They finally called in October and they sent a crew out to install the last of the windows but they were unable to since no one told them that the bottom sliding window for the eighth one was in the warehouse. So they left and the original crew was to come three days later to install the final windows. The original crew shows up, as scheduled, with all the remaining windows and first thing the hold up the half moon only to find it was the same wrong shape as the last one, just larger. Once again they made a template, called the office and explained what the situation was. Neither Alan or Allison had the courtesy to speak with me, no apology, no contact whatsoever until Kara finally contacted me in December and the job was completed on 12/17/2011. With the discussions I had with Alan and/or Allison the only compensation they would offer is $200, which according to Allison, 'Is 4 times what we normally pay for a "missed appointment"'. So we had our home in disarray for 5 months (including Thanksgiving with company), I had to move furniture 4 times (with Rheumatoid Arthritis) and had to put up with condescending attitudes from both Alan and Allison. We were going to finish the other 13 windows over the next two years but they will not be from these folks, I would have to give them four years to get it right.
Description of Work: We replaced eight windows across the back of our house. Two of the great room windows had odd shaped half moon windows above them. All were casements replaced with sliders. The old windows were original from the build, 15 years ago.

The experience was good. They came out and gave us a good price with some discounts. They came by and did all of the windows. They were in and out within a day getting everything in. Everything was fine. They didn't have to come back. I would use them again, but hopefully I won't need to.
Description of Work: Magic Window replaced all our windows except for the window wall which had been replaced earlier. There were 10 or 11 windows and they were all regular horizontally sliding windows. The company is out of Wixom.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Bought a new house with original windows. Not intending to replace this year but wanted to get idea of price to save accordingly. Salesman came to our house. Said he actually is a manager in office now but since they were sooo busy with estimates he came out. He walked around and measured our eleven windows. Total hard sell sales pitch. Spent FOREVER extolling the virtues of their window. On and on an on. I kept asking repeatedly "how much"?? After 90 minutes he finally spits out a quote. Ridiculous! $28000. BUT if we sign on the dotted line right now he could do it for $18000. SERIOUSLY?? First off I told him there was no way I was going to sign anything. Never sign until I check all my options. He just dug in deeper trying to prove to me that I was wrong to do that. Price goes down to $16000. I continue to explain I'm not going to make a decision right then and there. PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE. Goes on to tell me he didn't need to do weeks of research to buy his $80000 luxury vehicle. At this point I tell him to stop. He is starting to p*** me off. He tells me that I'm offending him!!! So I tell him to get out of my house. I get up and leave the room because I'm so mad. He continues to talk to my husband. Suddenly my husband brings me a new quote down to $9000!!!!!!! I of course tell him that at this point I wouldn't buy the windows if they were $400. Two hours of my life I'll never get back. I think about all the people they swindle at the crazy high price and it makes me sick!
Description of Work: Salesmen came to house for estimate. Did not hire them.

siding, replacement windows

Using Majic windows for siding was a terrible experience. Their fiberglass windows seem to be good quality and installation of those went fine except the long delay with lack of coordination between the window department and the siding. The windows were installed 11/26/2010 which was about 10 weeks after giving a $11,000 deposit on 9/14/2010. We were unhappy with our salesman, Keith Wysocki who gave us inaccurate information on when the two services could be completed as we told him we wanted windows and siding completed before the weather got cold as problems like buckling with the siding can be issues. He told us completion by end of Oct. The siding wasn't completed until 12/8/2010. The salesman also indicated we could get $1,500 energy tax credit for each service totalling $3,000. The government only gave $1,500 total credit. The salesman told us the siding was maintenance free and the siding contractor, Steve and siding manager, Tim said we need to power wash the siding 1-2 times a year to get off pollutants like acid rain. In addition, my house has some peaks that are hard to reach with a normal ladder so the siding service was misrepresented as maintenance free. My calls to Majic began in mid Oct. 2010 to see when the windows would be installed as made sense to do the windows first then siding as our bay windows would interfere with the siding installation. It had been awhile since they came to measure the windows and I was told the windows were ordered 10/11/2010 and would take about three weeks. I called again mid Nov. and finally windows were installed 11/26. After calls to different departments, I found out they couldn't start our siding just before the window installation (just do bay windows last) because they gave our siding to another customer before our windows came in and had to reorder our siding. During a cold weather week our siding was completed 12/8/2010. The trim on the corners of the bay windows didn't look that good and the contractor Steve said these bay windows difficult to do. I completed and mailed the warranty card in Jan. 2011. I also mailed a Majic survey in Jan. 2011 about the above complaints. In late spring 2011, the trim had buckled horribly in some areas and the bay windows looked worse then before. Since early June 2011, I have made about 25 calls mostly to the contractor Steve and siding manger but occasionally to the quality assurance representative Stan for a contractor to redo the trim. All of the trim but two areas were redone by mid July 2011. In June, I threatened to file a compalint with the Better Business Bureau or see a lawyer if work not redone. I was told numerous excuses such as the contractor behind in his other jobs because of the heat, the rain, Fed Ex shipment damaged our coil trim and had to reorder. Steve the contractor's phone purposely didn't have voice mail so i couldn't leave him a message. Steve when he did come had a terrible attitude complaining about having to use his own time and gas. I told him if you did the job correctly the first time you wouldn't have had to return here. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on 10/12/11 and I called the siding manager Tim and Stan to tell them. On Oct. 14, Steve came to redo the two areas on an unscheduled day when I wasn't home. He was told I wanted to be there. Steve used two different color trim on the same corner and he called me making the excuse the colors a little different because of fading/different batch of coil. Tim didn't come to inspect the house himself until 10/21/11 and left me a message that he didn't like one area that Steve will redo. Steve redid the one area to satisfaction on 10/24/2011 over a year since we gave our deposit. I was irritated that when i spoke to Steve on the phone at 8:15 am on that day he said he would be at my house in the morning and didn't arrive until 12:40. When I commented about the trim matching and looking good then he blamed the mismatched trim on the people he ordered the trim from. I called Tim on 10/27 to let him know the job was finally completed to satisfaction but had issues with Steve's attitude.Tim finally acknowledged on 10/27 that Steve's attitude shouldn't be tolerated and that he should have communicated to us while at my house about the challenges of how my house was built. I 'm amazed how despite complaints along the way the company's department continued to have poor communication. Majic also needs much work to being customer oriented and more professional. Even when i filed the complaint with the Better Business Bureau it still dragged out for another two weeks before the work was completed satisfactorily. This report was done at my sister in laws who is on Angie's list. My name is Marci Markowitz.

I got an estimate on Feb. 26. 2011. If I signed a contract that day, I was supposedly getting a special rate. I went ahead and signed. Truthfully, I'm not real good about checking estimates. When I decide to do something, I just want to get on with it. So I don't even know how good (or bad) of a price I got. After an initial misunderstanding (via a phone call) about the installation date, two men showed up on time. They also called me first to let me know they were on their way. They put down tarp to protect the carpet. They got going and were finished in maybe an hour and 45 minutes. They cleaned up, as well as most men, though there didn't seem to be a whole lot of mess anyway. So as a whole, it went well.
Description of Work: They installed blown-in insulation in my attic. I don't really have a way to determing quality.

I don?t have any complaints. The salesperson was great. They were here when they said they would be and they finished the job when they said they would finish. They did exactly what they said they would do. The salesperson sold me on it. No surprises. I think the price was kind of high - I probably could have gotten it cheaper but I was okay with it. I don?t know anything about what that costs. I would recommend them to others. I would probably get a price at least before I use them again in the future.

Very disappointed. I was first quoted over $3,700 to replace 2 fixed windows (each 5'8" x 5'2")! Of course, if I signed a contract on the spot, the price would go down by 30% (or $1,100) to about $2,600. When I indicated that I'd need a day to mull it over and was expecting 2 more estimates, I was told the price would go up by $400 and would only be good for 1 week. I refused to be pressured into signing on the spot and won't do business with companies that use such sales tactics. I was also concerned because this company has had 42 customer complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau in the past 36 months and there are quite a few other complaints on various on-line complaint boards.

In June 2010 my mother-in-law signed a contract to install a shower liner. She was told to expect to hear from Majic in 2 - 3 weeks. After over a month measurements were taken and another 2 -3 weeks expected before installation. In August 2010 the installer arrived, removed the old liner and then discovered the measurements taken by Majic were wrong. Another delay of two weeks and signficant inconvenience. Finally, the new liner was installed two and one-half months after the contract was signed. When she called the sales person to complain the sales person was rude and unresponsive. In the end the shower liner was installed, however the longer than promised installation time, rude attitude of the sales person, and the high cost of the product did not make the experience a pleasant one.

They were coming to the door and offering deals. My niece told me it was expensive but we put in vinyl windows and nothing is cheap nowadays; I know we could have gotten a different type of windows cheaper but you get what you pay for. They were good about cleaning up although there were some odds and ends left around. The people seemed professional and they were quick; they didn?t linger all day or anything. They showed us how to take the windows out and clean them. One guy was really responsive but the other was less so.

I was pleasantly surprised with the service I received from Majic. The saleman was a little late showing up for the estimate, but besides that everything went smooth. I had them replaced in the spring, and my electric bill was signficantly lower even running the air as much as I have this summer. I would definitely use Majic again and recommend them to anyone looking to replace windows in their house.

The installers were very professional. They arrived when they were supposed to, did the job thoroughly, cleaned up after, and asked if there was anything else. They went over how to operate the screens and windows, and had me check the windows to make sure I was satisfied with everything. I was. Overall I thought they did an excellent job and I would recommend them to friends.
Description of Work: Majic came out to our home and approximately measured our windows, explained the differences in their product, then gave us a price. Let me stop here for a sec.. I don't understand why, when you're getting an estimate from a window company (any window company), they act like they're giving you such a fabulous deal, when we all know that the first price is a sucker price anyway. The only other gripe I have, is that the salesman kept asking me if this was a rental property (3 times) because these windows were expensive and if I was getting an estimate for a rental, I probably wasn't going to want them. Next the salesman told us that we would be contacted by a measurer in about a week to make an appt. for the final measure. This was true. In approximately 6 weeks we would be contacted by the installers. Also true.

Thankfully, I did not do business with them. -While raking leaves on the 2nd, a few gentlemen were walking the neighborhood offering free estimates on various jobs through majic window co. They 'signed me up' for an estimate of new windows and a new metal roof. The salesman came by the next day a half hour late, with no brochures or any materials to show me, just himself. He asked how I had heard about them and I told him about the guys walking around the day before, he assumed I had seen an ad on TV and quoted that 'Mort Crimm' is their spokesperson. I'm thinking "OK, you pay for advertising...." He asks 'what can we do for you' and I say I'm expecting a free estimate on roofing and windows and he says: "I don't do roofing." I'm like: "Ummmm, so they guy yesterday was lying?" He says condescendingly: "Oh, we do metal roofs but they are 3-4 times more expensive than asphalt roofs." "Yes, and I'd like an estimate, but I'm concerned that you didn't know what estimates I was 'signed up' for and then you lied and told me that you don't do roofs. If you don't have the communication within your own company to know what I'm looking for before you come out here... I'm afraid of what you customer service may be like. Are you on Angie's list?" He claimed he didn't know what it was... HA. "What kind of windows are you thinking about?" "New ones. What kind do you offer?" "Do you need to be anywhere soon, because me going over all this with your takes a long time, I'd have to measure the windows..." "I need to be getting out of here at 6:30pm, and had you arrived on time... How long does it take to measure windows?" "You seem like you are agitated Ma'am, is there a problem?" "Well, when you come to the appt. 1/2 hour late, with no materials to show me, lying about whether you do roofing, and not really communicating with the people who set up the appointment in the first place, yes I'm a little agitated." "Well, perhaps were not the right window company for you." "You took the words right out of my mouth! Happy Holidays."

When I requested an estimate, they insisted on a home visit with both my husband and me present (this is because their goal is to have you sign a contract on the spot). After 3.5 hours of hard selling, against our better judgment we decided to sign a contract. This was after we'd said no 6-7 times, that we never buy things on the spot. He wouldn't listen and kept lowering the price. He started out at $12,000, then went down to $8000, and then $4000. We'd already gotten lots of estimates and had read about fiberglass so it did seem like a good deal. We finally decided it was OK to sign, because it had a 3-day cancellation clause and we wanted to be able to check their credentials since we hadn't had time beforehand. Sure enough, when we researched them we found many more negative stories; bullying, terrible customer service, etc. We looked them up at the Better Business Bureau and they had 108 complaints, most of which were resolved, but other comparable companies had less than 10 complaints for the same time span. So we realized the risk and immediately cancelled the contract. I wish we'd never signed in the first place, there were so many red flags to begin with. The next day, the sales rep. called me. The conversation started out civil he asked me why we were canceling. I began telling him why and soon he was literally *yelling* at me and trying to use his bullying tactics. I had to hang up on him. By trying to bully me and yelling at me, he just confirmed everything we'd found out about the company. Also, notice all of the bad reviews here and then the 5 reviews with all A's, all posted on the same day, March 23rd, and that all say the same thing in the same voice. This is a shady company, don't waste your time with them. I wish I'd read Angie's List before I contacted them.

The job was to take one day but ran over into part of another day. The windows were of good quality, but when I went to remove stickers on them the glue was difficult to remove with various cleaners and smeared over the surface. Also I detected several pitted areas and small scratches on the windows. The new framing placed on the inside of the windows were nail-gunned in place with no apparent thought of spacing of nails. Also some of the framing pieces had quite a bit of old paint on them, indicating previous usage. I sent my customer comment form back to them with the above complaints and never received an answer by phone or letter. What's more, the workmen rather hurriedly left the rooms half cleaned and in disarray (blinds left on the floor, dust on carpeting, no walk through with them after finishing).

Installation was done poorly. The workman ruined several interior walls while installing the windows. They also made a huge mess indoors which I was told by the salesman would be confined outside. Since installation we have had two problems with the windows themselves, one of which the company has not taken care of after 5 months of complaints. The people in their office are abrasive and not cooperative. They seem to believe that I am not an important customer. After all, they already have their money.

I checked the credibility of the company. He started out at $24,000. Then $16000.00 and then $12,000. He finally said he would do it for $9,000.00 if I signed today. It took me 3 times to get a hold of them. 4 weeks later, they finally came out and measured. They said they would be here in November. Mr. Brooks was who I dealt with. In November, my windows are still not in. They kept telling me they would be in. I finally told them I want my money back. Finally they said they would be in December 21. I told them I was coming to get my money. They said they would be in by 12/8/05. They said it would be a 1 day install, it took 2. The sliding door in the family room didn't lock. They never turned it in. 2 weeks later, I got someone over. The door warped. Christmas week, not taking calls. Finally, the door comes in, in February. Wrong door. They said they would re-order. They said it would be in soon. In March, the door came in. Now the stationary door is warped.
