Bob's team did great work on our master bathroom. They even managed to get the job done just before our first child was born!

No work done, Blaies never responded to my request for estimate.
Description of Work: The provider did nothing. Blaies did not respond to my message requesting an estimate sent through Angie's message system. Not too courteous for an Angie's recommended contractor to an Angie's member. But no problem, I found someone else to do the work.

The customer contacted me through Angieslist and a text was sent to my phone with his phone number. I called this customer twice and received no response. I would have quoted the work if the homeowner would have responded.

Bob is great to work with and is very flexible to job changes and alterations. His men are all friendly and concerned about their work quality. They totally gutted an existing concrete shower, floor and also replaced the toilet. Plus they added a pedestal sink and fan and can lighting. The shower and floor was tiled and it turned out great. I strongly suggest that vs a shell type unit. Spend the extra money!! Bob asked us to buy the tile, sink, faucets and paint - as part of the quote - so we could make all the design decisions. Use his recommended suppliers for the best pricing and flexibility as to returns and changes. He provided all labor incl drywall, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work for the price listed above. We spent another $2200. Plus the toilets. He used Toto toilets and we are pleased. Note: the avg US bath rehab runs $16,000! Overall a great job and a smooth process.

Bob was very prompt in responding to my request for a quote. He seemed knowledgeable and the quote was within our range but the cabinetry he uses did not entirely meet our needs since we have some custom features in the powder room which needed updating.

Response from JRB Renovations
I met with the homeowner on the date and time she specified. I provided two estimates at no cost to her and in a timely fashion. The cabinets sizes are all standard sizes, so I am unaware of any custom features she needed in the powder room. I never received any feedback or follow up on my estimates. I can provide cabinets for all needs but I cannot provide them if I do not know what the needs are. I always type into my estimates, "please let me know if you have any questions." The homeowner never informed me of any custom cabinet needs. I wish the homeowner would have called me and explained their cabinet issues because it sounds like she wanted to hire my company. Still confused by all of the "B" ratings!

When we could no longer pretend that the floor in our upstairs bathroom wasn't sinking, giving us a good reason to remodel, we looked on Angie?s List for a bathroom contractor. We found Bob Blaies, who wrote up a proposal for gutting and redoing the entire room. In for a penny, in for a pound, we thought, and upgraded some of Bob?s suggestions. Our palette was based on three Frank Lloyd Wright tiles set into the shower, and the rest of the tile work, wall paint and cabinetry followed suit. When we signed the contract in November Bob said he was very busy and wouldn't be be able to start until after New Years. True to his word he called in mid-January and demolition began the last week of January. Once started the job took about five weeks including a few days when the weather was just too awful for his crew to get in. On those occasions they always called to apologize. As with any job, we had a few glitches, but Bob resolved them quickly and professionally. In short, Bob and his crew did beautiful work, despite driving to Wyandotte from as far away as Commerce/White Lake during the worst of this past winter. They were punctual, courteous, tidy and efficient. Did we get other estimates? No. Would we recommend Bob and his workers? Absolutely. Our bathroom is just as we had imagined it, and far more functional than previously. Full marks.

I'm very happy with the work done by Bob and his team. I had my master bathroom almost completely stripped down and rebuilt. The old shower did not use the entire width of the room so its plumbing wall was removed enabling the entire space to be used. That gives my new shower about 2 more feet of width. Bob was able to locate a shower door that fit my non-standard sized space. The tile work on the floor and in the shower is excellent,. In addition to the floor and shower space I had following replaced: vanity, countertop, sink and faucet, mirror, medicine cabinet, lighting, ceiling vent fan, and most of the pipes. I thought things went about as smoothly as could be expected for a job that took a few weeks to complete. Bob is very busy so you can probably expect at least a three month wait to get on his calendar.

I originally contact Bob in late December; after doing an in-person quote, we agreed it made sense to wait to do the work until things warmed up in case it required doing work on / through the roof. Work was scheduled last week and completed in about 1/2 day. They are quite busy so would recommend getting on their calendar a few months ahead of needing the work. (Which is probably a good sign that they have so many customers). I was pleased with the crew - very nice and professional. Bob stopped by in the morning with the 2 other crew members to assess the job, then they completed the work. I had a chance to talk a bit with Bob about his business, etc. - he's a very personable guy and clearly takes pride in his company and his team's work. Very easy to work with (not all contractors are easy to communicate with, even if their work is good). Refreshing! They put down dropcloths from front door all the way upstairs to the bathroom which was nice for cleanup purposed. They even wiped down the bathroom with a rag (it was probably cleaner than when they started)! A few days after the job was completed, Bob reached back out to let me know he was going to refund $100 of the job b/c it ended up taking less work to install the roof vent than originally anticipated. I was floored. This was the right thing to do and I truly appreciated him doing this proactively. I wouldn't have even thought to request this so it was a very pleasant surprise. On a quick side-note - we did get a quote from them for some other work, and while it was out of our budget, I would still want to work with them again on other projects. I don't think they're the cheapest game in town, but you also get what you pay for.

The crew were courteous and professional. Quality of the tile work (painting, plumbing, tile, electrical) was great. The gentleman who provided the shower door (we used a Euro style shower) was knowledgeable and very professional. The job went a little slower than anticipated due to unusually cold weather we experienced. Bob Blaies is friendly, personable and responsive. The whole team were a pleasure to work with. We would definitely work with them again!

I used Blaies Renovations LLC. It took almost nine weeks for them to complete it. It is a while but we had other things come up and as you do with a house that I live in, so we had to have all new plumbing put in and different things that stalled the project and frankly the weather here too slowed the project down so I understood the difference and solved the problem. They did a great job. They were here and when they couldn't get here they were sure to let me know and was all very understandable concerning that I am looking at a foot and half of snow with the high today of ten. So this has been a winter that been incredible. I didn't have any problem with their timing, you know, and they did a marvelous job, I probably needed to write a review and I just haven't done it yet. They kept me informed, it was very, very, very professional, I really enjoyed working with them, it was just a really good experience all way around, I have never had that, I actually had reconstruction done at one time and they sure did everything that could make it easy, my furnace went out in the middle of it, you know, I had to do the furnace too and in the middle of it I got a furnace too and had a couple of cold nights and that kind of thing but they did a great job, helped out in a lot of areas, I mean they really did with the weather and everything, I mean they cleaned up, they cleared out, they did over and above, they did really a great job. The price, can't say it was unreasonable. They fixed problems that they found as they were going along, they pointed out things that needed to be redone and that kind of thing that make sense and got it done, they did a good job. I had a problem with the tile guy but I just hate to lower the rating for that, I really do. I just think that the less said about it the better, frankly, they did an excellent job but a three day tile job took him four weeks, that's part of the problem too. I can tell you this, they have one work, I mean the guy really came through for me, and he was excellent work, and his name is Kirk, he stood the most time here, did the most work here and he did things that I interviewed a lot of contractors before I hired Bob Blaies and I wanted an archway from my kitchen to my breakfast room because there is archways in the house and breakfast is a newer addition, no one would do it but this guy came in and said, you know, you got to have an archway here exactly and he did it beautifully and he did it great. I said I already wanted an archway here and he walked into my entry way in my living room, looked at the archways and said no problem, but everyone else that I went through, they said oh, no, you got to keep that massive hole in the wall, it looks great, I knew they couldn't do it, you know, but this guy did it, I mean he is just a perfectionist. He did all the cram molding work, he put the archway in, plaster everything, he did a marvelous job, very talented man, but Kirk, in my mind I would like to set him out as really the star of this renovation because he was, just very excellent work. He went beyond, he did, he did, he really did and I can't say enough good things about him. It probably would not have been nearly as pleasant with anybody else and I probably would have been more upset with the tile guy if it wasn't for Kirk, you know, because he came through, he came through, he worked around everything, he is very professional, he cleaned up every day, he did a marvelous job. I don't want to be focusing on the tile guy, I really don't want it to be negative, because overall it was a great experience. I don't think I could have had a better experience with anybody else. I just wanted to share my dissatisfaction with Bob, the owner of the company, and that's really all I needed to do because he will take care of it, he has got an excellent company and you know, he is really good, I don't want anything negative said about him, because he did a great job. .

This is a professional company that does quality work. They made appointments, arrived when they said they would, were timely, crew was polite. It is obvious they have years of experience because of their knowledge of what they were doing. I would highly recommend Bob and crew for anyone and will do so. I waited on writing this review to see if issues came up. It's been over two months and only a couple small things came up. I notified Bob and he immediately came out to correct them. Got estimates due to excellent reviews from Angie's List and went with Bob/crew even though they were not the least expensive. We made the right choice.

We were looking to have a floor replaced in a handicap accessible bathroom, that had been added to our home 32 years ago. The shower is a roll-in shower to accommodate a wheelchair and we needed someone who had the knowledge and expertise to know the correct slope for drainage so the bathroom would not be flooded. After reading reviews, we contacted Blaies Renovation and Bob promptly came and gave us an estimate, which we thought was reasonable. We talked it over and thought it was acceptable for the job we wanted done. We liked his ideas and he seemed very knowledgeable and professional. We didn't get another estimate because we read all the reviews on Angie's List, and thought that he was a contractor that we would like to work with. That turned out to be a very good choice! Bob's crew (Ray, Josh, and Lee) arrived promptly at 7:00 AM each morning and worked as a great team. The first day was spent just removing the toilet and tearing up the floor, and removing the lower row of wall tile, which was also going to be replaced with the same tile as the floor.. It was quite a dusty job but they kept the doors closed, and contained as much dust as possible. The next day, Ray, with Lee helping, put down a new sub floor and covered it with the cement-like material. The next couple of days were spent laying the new floor tile, lower row of wall tile, and grouting it all. We also decided to have them install a new Toto toilet, instead of reusing our old one. So far that one works fine. Bob said that he would return at a later date, when the grout had thoroughly dried, to seal the new floor. We were very pleased with how it turned out and would definitely recommend this contractor.

Bob was great to work with & very patient with many changes I had throughout the process. His crew was very professional and did quality work. What I ended up with is a very modern bathroom that looks like I spent much more than 11k on. It would have come in even less expensive had it not been for all my changes, but the final result was worth it. It did take a while to get started because he's so busy, but Bob told me that up front & kept me up to date along the way. The amount of work he's got going on must say something about the good work he does. I definitely plan to call on Bob again for my upcoming Kitchen remodel & plan to recommend to friends & family. Thanks for the great work, Bob!

I felt very comfortable with Bob when I first met him. He is very professional. We had estimates with a couple other contractors which we did not feel could give us the quality we wanted. Or the expert advice we needed. We really like all of his employees Kirk, Josh, Lee & Ray. They are very good at what they do, Bob included. Our kitchen is absolutely beautiful! I could have never imagined it could look this way after the mess we had before. Out nest project is our full bathroom. When the times comes, we will be calling Bob!

Built half wall in kitchen from floor then up top for cupboards to create an opening with a ledge. Installed glass and stone tiled back splash. Installed new cupboards and hardware. Installed recessed lighting and pendant lights in kitchen. Installed Faucet, garbage disposal, microwave, stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Granite countertops installed by his source.

I contacted Bob through reviews on Angies list to remodel our bathroom. He scheduled an appointment for estimate a few days later and showed up on time. His price was reasonable compare to other estimates that I had. He started and finished the project as he scheduled. I have to give credits to his crew; Josh, Kirk, and Ray for their fantastic professional manners and the great job that they did. Bob did some extra work with no extra charge that I was expecting and it was very nice of him. Overall, I 100% recommend him to angies list members.

DISASTER I contacted Bob Blaies because of the Angie's List reviews saying that he was on time and kept his word. Not so. In the less than 3 weeks he worked in my home, his crew did not show up on several days or came for only brief periods. When I would ask about this, he would text me "Let me run the project. I have been doing this for 30 years." He would text me late in the evening to tell me that if I did not have certain material there the following day, no work could be done. I would run out to whatever store was still open or leave work early to pick up the materials and they would not be used and/or no one showed up. The small bath project had been going for almost 3 weeks and was less than half done, with no tile down, no sink, toilet, light fixtures, faucets, etc. installed; when he began demanding more money and threatening to walk off the job, though I had paid 50% up front. As I was literally in the middle of doing surgery one day, Mr Blaise began repeatedly calling and texting me demanding more money ,even though none was due according to our contract and stating that I if I did not call him "right now" that he would begin ripping out the construction. He refused to leave and continued calling and texting and stating that he would report me to the building department. I had no choice but to HAVE THE POLICE REMOVE MR BLAIES which they did, but not before he began to tear out the construction. I felt like I was dealing with a drug-addicted, adolescent psycho. The next day the building department did show up. He had not pulled ANY permits. The construction he had done was not up to code and there was a leak in the plumbing. The construction has to be re-done. He cashed a deposit for my kitchen and his subcontractor has resorted to trying to get payment directly from me. His only response to my request that he return my money is "Do not contact me again." I guess I will have the courts contact Mr. Blaies. My advise: SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF MONEY AND HASSEL - AVOID THIS CONTRACTOR AT ALL COSTS!

This is the second job we had Blaise do for us. Both went smoothly. On this job, there were the usual "surprises. The crew took them all in stride. What is most impressive were the little extras they did (pointed out a crack in our ceiling below the bathroom that they fixed "just because," fixed our lame attempt to prep the walls). They also are a model of its kind in clean-up and communication. They would tell us what was coming next, what to expect, etc with a daily report and/or phone call or text. They were here on time daily and when we got home from work, we could not tell they were even there, so clean they left our house. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Book them early!

I have nothing but positive things to say about Bob and his crew. The estimate was very fair and less than most of his competition. The work was completed in just about 4 weeks which includes both a half bath complete remodel and a full bath remodel. His crew were prompt and very professional and were very nice to my family while the work was being completed. All of the work was very well done and any issues were dealt with promptly and professionally. Highly recommend!

According to the reviews from Angie?s list, I selected 3 companies for the estimate for our bathrooms and the basement remodel. Only Bob called me back. He came to my house for the measurement. He emailed us once for the first estimate, then no email. I sent email, but never heard from him. He looked like very professional and wanted to work with him, but a bit disappointed. I am not sure we could not get replied at all. We are just thinking he does not want to work for us...

Response from JRB Renovations
I contacted this homeowner by phone to set up an appointment to discuss the remodels. I showed up for the meeting at the specified date and time in February, 2013. The homeowners and I discussed the remodels and I said I would email them the estimates. I emailed the full bathroom estimate first, because the homeowners had decided what they wanted. The homeowners were very undecided about the master bathroom remodel, so I tried to contact them to get some questions answered. I never received a response from them. I tried several times after this and had the same results. The homeowner finally emailed me over 2 months later, and stated, " Sorry for the delay, we disconnected our Comcast service". I sent an email to the new address they provided and received no response. Their review is very confusing to me, so I tried the calling them on 10-04-13. I did get through to the homeowner. She seemed to agree that there was some confusion since they disconnected their service and I did not know this. I told her that I have always been very interested in doing their remodels, which is evident by the amount of time I spent meeting with them, discussing the remodels and putting together the full bathroom estimate. She told me that her husband would either email or call me to discuss everything, but I have not received a response. I also sent them an email again, and I have not received a response to date.

We are very happy overall with our beautiful new bathroom. Bob and his crew were very professional, friendly, and cleaned up at the end of every day. They asked a lot of questions throughout the process to make sure that we got the results that we wanted. Upon completion when we noticed that the shower drain wouldn't close, Josh came out within 1-2 days to fix it. I would recommend them to anyone looking to renovate their bathroom!
Description of Work: Complete renovation of bathroom. Demo of old bathroom, installed new ceiling fan, glass block window in shower, updated plumbing, lowered electrical outlets, and installed new floor and shower tile.

Bob and his crew were there on time, did the work, cleaned up daily and finished the project timely. His crews that did the work were great, personable, and professional. Overall we are very pleased with our engagement with Blaise Renovations and have recommended him to several of our friends and neighbors.

It was a real pleasure working with Bob and his crew for the following reasons: 1. From the time I made the first phone call, Bob was the most professional attentive contractor I have ever dealt with. His estimate was right on. As a matter of fact, Bob and his crew did a lot of extra special touches at no additional charge. In addition, they came upon some problems when removing walls and flooring. They corrected the problems instead of covering them up and again with no additional charge. 2. Their quality of work is superb. Being a perfectionist when it comes to my home, I have not found a single thing wrong with any of the work Bob and his crew performed. 3. The gentlemen who performed the work Josh, Kirk, Ray and Lee are the best. They were always punctual, very polite and extremely professional. They take great pride in what they do and it shows. I would use Bob and his crew again, no question about that!!! They truly are the best. I feel very fortunate to have found Bob and worked with him. He and his crew made the whole project a pleasant experience.
