+ 1 moreBob refused to give me a quote over the phone, said he absolutely "had to see it". He became somewhat hostile and unprofessional. Obviously doesn't have the customer service skills to be answering the phone. I would recommend calling a different company who will treat you as a valued customer and shows appreciatiion that you chose to call them!

Here's a summary of what Bob's crew did: They demolished our old bathroom, removing our old tub, the shower tile, the toilet, the decorative wall tile, the vanity, and the floor tile. Upon finding significant water damage, Bob's crew rebuilt our floor, charging us only for materials. They installed new drywall, new tub, new tile in the shower, new tile floors, new toilet, new vanity, new tile backsplash, and new granite countertops. They rewired our fan and added an outlet near the vanity. They rehung our original mirror and window blinds, and they painted the room. We LOVED working with Bob because... 1. He stuck to his estimate -- no unexpected add-ons or extras. 2. He worked with us to create a plan that fit within our budget. 3. The quality of work is tremendous. I'm a picky customer, and a month later, I have not found a single flaw. Not one. That has never happened to me before. 4. His crew is the best. They are punctual, polite, and professional. They took great care to minimize dust and debris, and they cleaned up at the end of every day. They were sweet to my dog and my baby. They are a great group of guys who you can trust in your home. Ray, Kirk, Lee, & Josh, we thank you for all your hard work, your attention to detail, and your wonderful attitudes. You guys are great. Bob Blaies is our guy from now on. We wouldn't even consider hiring another contractor.

The situation was that my mother had sever water and mold damage in her home while she was out of state. She has been in hotel for two months and because the company is as busy as they are, he was honest with me that it was going to tie some time before he would be able to start services. Because it was going to take a while for them to start and we are in a rush, I am going to have to use another company. I am very pleased about the honesty of the owner as you hear so many horror stories where company's take on so much work and they never complete the project on time. Thank you for your suggestions and honesty.

They came back several times when we had some minor issues and they took care of them happily and expediently. We were very happy with the outcome and would recommend Bob to others and will be asking him to quote future projects with us.

+ -1 moreWe first contacted Mr. Blaies in early May, 2013. He scheduled an on site visit to our house, and appeared as promised, spending a fair amount of time reviewing our situation and learning our preferences. However, after that visit, he informed us that he was waiting for an estimate from his cabinet supplier. After several subsequent email inquires to him, we finally received a single page price quote about 8 weeks later. However, we never met personally with his "cabinet guy" and never obtained finalized detailed drawings for the project. Other contractors we contacted through Angie's List were much more thorough and detailed and showed considerable more interest in our project than Mr. Blaies, so we elected to contract with one of them. Mr. Blaies was very pleasant and seemed very professional and competent, but we were disappointed in his follow-up.

+ 0 morePeople have really liked him and I never gotten them back. My job is really a small one so I think it's not just enough for him. He came out and looked at things and he's very nice and he said he'd get back to me but he never did. I may call him again and wish these guys would say "Your job is just too small for me," I'd rather hear that, "we do big projects and you have ceramic tile and some door that need replaced and it's more here and there." I called them a couple of times. What I was trying to accomplish is I was trying to give business to people in my area. They respond pretty quickly but he didn't call back though; he's pretty punctual.
Description of Work: Blaies Renovations LLC came out and looked what I have for them to do, never gave me a bid and never contacted me back.

+ -1 moreDespite being very busy Bob was able to get us on the schedule sooner than expected. I was very impressed with the entire Blaies team, they did a great job. They were very promt and professional. Josh and Lee had everything demolished in no time and answered all my questions during the process. The job got a little behind schedule due to an illness in the family but they worked the weekend to get us back on schedule. Through the whole process Bob was always available for questions and quick to respond. The quality on the job was A+. The team did exactly what we expected, and at the end of each work day, they cleaned up. There was no disruption to my daily living while the remodel was going on. Ray did an awesome job with the tile work - it looks amazing. Great group of talented guys, we love our new bathroom!

The original bathroom was a disaster - water damage on the floor, ceiling, and window to the extent that every bit of the room needed to be torn out and redone. Bob worked with me over a month prior to the job while I selected our materials, tile, fixtures, tub, toilet, and granite. This was our first remodel, so we took our time to personalize the room, upscale the fixtures, and work through color schemes for the room. Bob provided revised quotes after we offered to purchase our own materials for tile, fixtures, and toilet. He was responsive in replying to numerous e-mail questions, which helped my wife and I (both remodel rookies) figure out what we wanted. Most importantly, the quote he provided was final once issued. Bob encountered small items that would have easily let him nickle and dime us for add on's, but let us know that he allowed for those in the original quote to avoid surprises...a sign of an experienced professional that my wife and I appreciated. Once the job kicked off, Bob and his team were always punctual - arriving and finishing on time. They were able to get the bathroom functional in a week, which was remarkable considering the state it was in when they found it. The finished product was better than we ever imagined. I'm posting this review in June 2013, which is six months after the work was completed in December 2012. Six months after it was completed, we still have no issues, the file looks great, and everything continues to look and function as it did when they completed the job. Overall Bob and his crew did a fantastic job on our bathroom and we would hire him again.

+ -1 moreWhen Bob quoted to do the work he explained how busy he was which was no surprise given the reviews he has received on here. Given we hadn't yet moved into the home he agreed that he could squeeze us in on an as and when basis. This worked really well for us and meant the project was completed by the middle May when Bob's first official availability would have been June. The quality of work was very high and Bob accomodotated a variety of requests and amendments to give us the bathroom that we wanted. The guys that came out to do the work were all very friendly and easy to work with. They had good communication and kept us informed every step of the way. Kirk also modified our vanity to make the draws work better and Josh moved our vanity plumbing which meant I didn't have to cut a section out of the new vanity to make it fit around the existing plumbing. We had initially planned to use the original vanity so neither of these were in scope but these and several other additional items have added up to us now having a wonderful new bathroom that looks great and has been remodelled to a very high standard. I would highly recommend this company, they are easy to work with and produce a very high standard of work.
Description of Work: Demolished an old master shower and installed a new tile shower, vanity and tile floor. Installed toilet and repaired walls and ceiling. Connected shower light to GFI and improved ventilation in attic. This was essentially a full bathroom remodel.

Bob was able to put us into his schedule sooner than expected, and the total job took exactly what was predicted. Through the whole process Bob was always available for questions and quick to respond. He was flexible with a few small changes we requested along the way. The team doing the work was also flexible and a pleasure to work with. The quality on the job was A+. The team did exactly what we expected and all were very careful and exacting in their work. At the end of each work day, they cleaned up and there was no impact to daily living around the house. Josh & Lee did an outstanding job on installing tub & cabinets, and some minor electrical work. Ray did pure artwork with the tile work - it looks outstanding. And Kirk did a very meticulous job doing the painting and finishing touches. We absolutely love the new bathroom they created. We would use Blaies Renovations again in a heartbeat.

As Bob (the owner) and I discussed what I was looking for when he came to my house, he already had a couple of ideas which really helped with my design and space issue in the bathroom. He was the only company to discuss how he would customize my cabinets to fit etc. I received a quote within a day or two. I had questions as I did with all the quotes I recieved however Bob responded to my questions the same day, in email, and with direct answers so I did not have to keep going back and forth on the same issues. The pricing was very competitive so I awarded the project to them. We discussed a date when they would start and finish which they met both. The crew was excellent.............they were friendly, professional, and clean! They started each morning at 7am without fail. They kept me apprised of any issues or decisions I had to make. They reset the toilet each day so my elderly Mom could use it in the evening which really helped. Their workmanship was outstanding! I have a fully tiled walk in shower and floor with beautiful cabinets for storage. From the estimate to the finished product, this is by far the best company I have ever worked with. I can't say enough about Blaies Renovations and would recommend them to anyone with a large or small project.
Description of Work: I needed to have my bathrrom totally redone. The bathroom tile was original along with the tub. It also had a pedestal sink, toilet, overhead cabinet, medicine cabinet, and a strange shelf next to the sink. Space was a big concern to me in that this is not a large bathroom but I wanted cabinets to get things off the floor and for additional storage. I also have an elderly Mom and needed a walk-in-shower with some handicap features put in.

He's runs a busy company which can be good, and bad at times. He quoted out our bathroom. The price was quite a bit higher then I had expected, but there was a lot of construction details that needed to come into play with the age of our home. Unfortunately we decided not to go with him for the work due to price. If I had the money, I would have though. His work look fabulous and he had other good reviews.

Description of Work: Blaies Renovation completed 3 projects at our home -remodeled the bathroom, new electrical from the Edison connection to the house and new circuit box, relocated washer and dryer and created a laundry closet. I purchased the tile, vanity & top, lighting & bath/faucet fixtures which is not included in the amount spent. 1. Bathroom: Gutted my hallway bathroom down to the studs and completely rebuilt removed thick 1950's plaster and metal lathe on all walls and heavily mudded tile that ran up the walls. installed new sheetrock that looks perfect despite the out of plum walls took out sofets to make the bathroom feel larger ran new electrical for additional electrical outlets, additional lights, a ceiling fan and a heated floor replaced old galvanized plumbing and reconfigured plumbing for the bathtub & shower Installed a larger tub, tiled the tub/shower enclosure, reconfigured the plumbing for new drain, shower head, spout, etc and installed a chrome shelf Added 3 lights, a ceiling fan, and 2 electrical outlets and corresponding switches. installed in floor electric heat, tiled the floor with marble and cut and polished marble tile to create a marble baseboard primed & painted walls, installed new toile, vanity, sink, fixtures and drawer pulls, lights & fan 2. Laundry Room Moved washer & dryer from the utility closet in our kitchen (house on slab) to the room adjacent to the bathroom ran new 220 & 110 electric new plumbing in the walls for water and new plumbing to tie into the drain created access thru our brick exterior wall for vent and emergency drain reconfigured the closet to accommodate the washer/dryer which included some new framing. tiled the floor, new drywall, patched drywall, primed and painted 3. We asked that they try to help us get the laundry room completed by the date of appliance delivery due to disabilities in the household. Although they are very busy, they accommodated our needs by working additional hours. The work was completed on time, done with the utmost professionalism and they didn't cut corners to make sure that it would be done right. They were always on time, worked consistently, and cleaned up before leaving every day As the remodel progressed, if Bob saw something that needed to be corrected, he did it without increasing the estimate. Although Bob's vacation fell within the remodel timeframe, there was no lag in work. His crew continued to work as if he was there along side of them. This being our first remodel, Bob was very helpful in selecting cabinets, laminate, tile and lighting. We came to rely on Bob's expertise and experience. We chose Bob from six other estimates. He worked hard to give us the basement we visualized. We recommend Blaies Renovations to anyone considering any type of remodel. Bob's personality was the added bonus to a job well done.
Description of Work: Our 70's basement was remodeled into a current living area with plenty of storage space. It was demoed right to the cinder blocks, including a cement faux fireplace. The main room was drywalled (ceiling and walls) and painted. In the laundry room, the utility tub was replaced as well as the tile flooring. The ceiling was drywalled and the cabinets refaced. The electrical was brought up to code, replacing the fuse box. The ceiling heights (3 different height areas) proved not to be an issue. Recessed lighting now gives the room plenty of light. The multiple storage closets, four in total, provide the needed space but still leaves plenty of living area.

+ -1 moreI had been wanting to update the bathroom for several years and finally called a few contractors for the work during spring/early summer 2012. I wanted to discuss other updates to the house also. Bob Blaies came over and looked at the bath and discussed what I wanted to have done there, as well as the other updates. He was friendly and courteous. I decided to focus on the bath. His estimate came back in a timely fashion and I thought it was reasonable. We went through a couple revisions to the estimate and he was always patient and a good listener. Due to our schedules we had to wait until August for the actual work to begin, but this wasn't a big problem. Bob had his employees, Josh, Kirk, and Kevin do most all of the work, Chris did the electrical. All of these guys were friendly and respectful. They asked plenty of questions to make sure that things got done according to my wishes, and really did a great job on everything. Bob had me work with his contacts to pick the tile and granite vanity top which was a money saver. If I had chosen a cheaper kind of tile the cost would have been significantly lower, but I am very happy with how the bathroom looks now and would not have been had I done anything differently. Throughout the whole process Bob and his staff were easy to work with, listened well, and made good suggestions to help us along. The end result is a really beautiful bathroom that adds value to our home, and is a pleasure to live with on a daily basis. I would certainly want to call Bob Blaies for any future work I may have done here.

Painted walls, ceiling, door. Installed blind over window and new pendant lamps over vanity.

+ -1 morechanWe booked Bob in mid-September, and he told us that he was committed until mid-November. He wasn't kidding. However, in the interim, he had called couple of times to verify the start date. He started on time. His professional and friendly crew (the same craftsmen through the entire job) showed up by 7 am without fail. They worked until 3 or so (we were at work). They were so clean that we did not know they had been there, even during the demolition stage. If they had a question, they met us before 7 am and caught us before we left. Bob would often call in evening with updates or to guide us to other steps we needed to take (buy drawer handles, for instance) to keep the project going, . We were never "dead in the water." The quality of the work was excellent with no surprises ... except when he would do something extra for us (put a bead of caulk on the other bath tile, for example.) He also painted the ceiling of the adjoining master bedroom that connects to the bath. That was his idea, not ours As far as workmanship was concerned, it appears no corners were cut in any way. We love our new bathroom. He stayed at the quoted price. However, I hasten to add that he could not bid on the cost of the reconstruction of the floor until he tore up the old one and saw what he was up against. We thought that was reasonable. He charged us about a thousand less than we thought we would have to pay. He also fixed a flaw in the floor support that the original builder goofed up on. All in all, we thought that the price was fair, given the quality of the workmanship. His price was notably less than a "reputable" Big Name contractor with whom we had done previous business. I'm glad we went with Bob. We find that all contractors say the right thing. They are come across as your good friend. Bob Walks the Talk. Book him early.
Description of Work: We needed our master bath rebuilt due to water damage from a leaky toilet. The entire floor and joists near the toilet had to be rebuilt as well as a board that supported the wall. We also wanted the shower, vanity and sink redone with wood cabinet and granite countertop. The closet door was changed. The room and ceiling needed to be repainted. In other words, we needed it gutted and totally rebuilt. Some small electrical wiring was needed as well. Virtually nothing remained from the previous bath. It in on the second floor.

I used to work construction, so I know what quality work is. Bob is the definition of quality. His team is extremely timely and very clean. He accommodated us as we were a few weeks out from having our 3rd child. Not only did Bob finish the job on time, he did it on budget, and to the high standards of our expectations. He even did a few small fixes around the house without charge. It is so refreshing to work with a company that does not nickel and dime you and yet the quality still exists. If you have a chance to work with Bob, make every effort to have him remodel your project.
Description of Work: We had our basement completely redone. Bob and his team went all the way to the block walls and completely remodeled our basement. We also had an new laundry room and bathroom added. Bob designed a space that was functional and relaxing for our growing family. Bob and his team framed, drywalled, painted, and installed flooring in our basement. Tile was laid in the laundry and bathroom area. In the family and play room they carpeted. They added recessed lighting to the entire basement, and redid all of the plumbing in the bathroom and laundry room.

+ -1 moreBob and the Guys did a great job! When we began the project the esimates that we were getting from the local companies were way out of our price range. When I spoke to Bob he gave me a reasonable and completely honest quote. The one down side that poeple might have is that he was so busy that they couldn't start right away and we had to wait until late Aug early Sept. But this was not a bad thing. The Wait was well worth it. The crew was on the job every day at 7am. No one ever showed up late. A couple of the guys even worked during the labor day holiday, now that's dedication! All the guys new what they were doing and were very professional. What minor problems did occure during the remodel was solved quickly by Bob and his team. I have told all my friends in Ann Arbor if you are doing any remodeling to your house call Bob and the Guys. Even if there is a wait for his services, it is definelty worth it!!!
Description of Work: The original kitchen of the house was very small. we decided to move the kitchen to the adjacent game room.
