Applegate has always done a great job. I have used them for multiple things over the last 10+ years and have always been pleased. They have gone above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of, including honoring an old quote. Most helpful when doing remodeling and needed electric and insulation, both were done well and cost effectively.
Description of Work: Used them for multiple jobs; installed air in first home, did electrical and insulation in second home, furnace repair and inspection at both

I scheduled with sales person on the phone and he said he would provide us heater with high energy efficiency but ended up installing an average product. With price I paid I could have purchased high end product from homedepot/sears. It beats purpose to having new heater to save electric bill.

The tech arrived on time, brought his own company doormat which he used before he stepped and put On protective shoe covers. Was courteous and professional. Handled the review, report, bill and payment all On his iPad and emailed all of it to me. Only downside ... They want to charge you double the cost of what you can Buy a filter for yourself.

They were very professional, fair, and their price was very reasonable. The first staff who came to assess our needs was very thorough. He provided extremely detailed proposal and explained what was not right and how they would go on fixing it. They started work right on time, supervised their staff, and finished it when they said they would. They cleaned up afterwards and despite hauling tonnes of insulation material, it appeared as if nothing had happened. Once they left, there was a remarkable improvement in the heat retention. Previously, the temperature used to drop to 55 degrees when the furnace was turned off. After the insulation, it never went below 65 degrees. In the next billing cycle, the gas bill was less by $35. These are the people who do the real work unlike some who talk big, take a big cut, and sub-contract the work to others.

See above. The applegate was very professional and helpful
Description of Work: I had an estimate for insulation from another vender. appelgate said I did not need more insulation. the problem with gas bills was a 40 year old inefficient furnace. The rep. spent a lot of time checking heat loss areas in my house and wrote up an estimate for a new heating system. i have not decided as yet wether to go ahead.

I worked with a salesman to determine what I will need to get a recently purchased home ready. He came to the home and spent about an hour looking at the house and furnace with me. It was clear that he was more interested in making money off me rather then figuring out what was right for me. He tried to up-sell me on a furnace and A/C unit. In addition, he would not provide me with a quote because he said that the estimator would need to come out and take a look at the house. My question is why did he waste my time if he was not able to give me a quote?!!? He committed to calling me back the next day, but it was a few days before I heard from him. Then, I received a call stating that he and the estimator would meet me the next day at 1 pm. I returned the call stating that I was not available at 1 the next day, but I could meet later in the week. ...I never heard back, which is just fine.

Sorry for our miscommunication on your project. We didn't have the opportunity to give you a price on any of the work and misunderstood the time frame of your future addition.(needed a print to give an accurate price) As far as re-scheduling an appointment, we should have followed up and been more persistent. No excuses on lack of follow up. These are the issues we review each month in department meetings. We are sorry and work hard to give better customer service than what you experienced.Let us know how we can make this right.

I really liked them. They were very professional and very precise. I felt like they knew what they were doing. They were very friendly. They kind of explained the issue and what was going on and I really liked it. In the past I have used my home warranty and they always sent out the cheapest people they could find I assume. So this was the first time that no one tried to sell me a new furnace or air conditioner. They tried to fix the problem and not upsell me anything which was nice. It was definitely a good price but they were a little bit expensive. I felt like I paid for what I got.

Sorry we had no chance to prove our value (never did any work). We have been in the insulation business since 1952, this is a competitive industry and we know we have pricing on par with our competitors.. We do 300-400 homes a year and feel confident our value would be proven if given a chance.

We got 2 estimates to start with, one from Applegate competitor hager fox. Both reps showed up on time and were very informative. Neither was high pressured or anything. Both were very professional. The estimates were close in price (different brand furnaces), but Applegate offered better financing terms ( 18 month interest free versus 6 months interest free from hager fox). We went with Applegate mainly due the financing terms. The insallers showed up on time on the specified day, 8 am. We were told it would take till 4 or 4:30 to complete the job. I was done by 3:30p, and they did a great job. Did a few little extras like a new and better drain tube. We were very pleased, they left the area very clean. The furnace has been problem free and our gas bills are noticeably lower.

I have used their services at least once a year for 10 years. My experiences with them has been excellent. They always do what they say they are going to do. They get here when they say they are going to do it. I once had an emergency and they came out here. I don't remember if it was a night or a weekend that they came out quickly when my furnace was dying in the winter. My furnace was put in by another company and that company later went out of business and then when I called Applegate, they were really helpful in making sure that I got the warranty honored. For the quality, as far as I know, it seems fine.

We noticed a big difference in the comfort level of the house, our bedroom is warmer than it has been since we moved in. The cold air sinking from the skylights doesn't happen anymore, this is especially nice after a shower. Our house has been completely finished on the main floor and in the basement. Everything is drywalled, taped and painted. The only area we can't seal are the rim joist areas. It would require putting too many holes in the walls to spray foam in the area and would create a mess on the carpets, beside all the repairs to the drywall. After we had another snow,we noticed the snow melting from same areas mentioned above. We called Applegate and Pete came out to check the job with his thermal imaging camera to verify the problems. He had talked with the crew that had done the work at our place. They told him they had fished the blower hose into the areas but because they were so tight they couldn't control the flow of cellulose very well. Pete has them scheduled to come out when the roof is dry and they will remove a shingle and drill a hole in the roof, put a tapered plug in the hole and glue down the shingle. Applegate has made us a believer in them and their abilities. They keep their promises and don't give excuses when something doesn't quite workout on the first go around. We plan to get a high efficiency gas furnance and an energy star air conditioner from them in March, since our ac is original equipment and the furnace is an 80% efficient model from 2006. We expect these improvements to greatly improve our energy efficiency.
Description of Work: Pete their building analysier came to the house to discuss the problems we were having with cold air dropping down from our 2 skylights. Plus we were having a problem with a general cold draft in the house. We bought this house last November. It was built in 1995 and had extra cellulose added in the past. The house has 2 cathedral ceiling areas onein the kitchen and livining area plus another in our master bedroom. The knee walls had lost the insulation bats and were basically uncovered. The insulation around the sky lights was for the most part still there but not adequate. He said the installers would put a net like fabric around the skylights and tack it to the knee walls and pack it full with cellulose. I also pointed out to Pete that the snow was melting off the roof above our bay window and above the kitchen sink where a recessed light is close to the edge of the roof. He said these areas may be hard to get to but it would be on the work order. Another problem we were having was in the master bathroom. The oversized sunken tub required a built out wall which didn't seem to be well insulated. We could access an area in the basement that was connected to the wall in question and had felt air freely moving through this area as if a window was open. Pete's plan here was to have the cellulose team blow in insulation from the bottom of this area on the outside of the house after removing vinyl siding and Tyvek cloth. Pete rated the existing insulation to be an R-38 where it existed by adding 10 inches of class one cellulose we would have an R-50 after it settled to 8.6 inches on top of the existing insulation. The guys came out on 2/14 and got all the attic work done and came back the next day to finish up by doing the outside wall. They worked well together as a team and cleaned up their work area each day. No mess left behind.

.We are very satisfied with their work. The final bill matched the estimate..
Description of Work: We wanted our 100 year old, at one time Michigan basement home , insulated at the rim joists. We visited Applegate to get a feel for the business as well as request an estimate. They were at the house the same afternoon. Before leaving, they gave us a proposal and corresponding estimate. They would spray in an inch of foam sealant over the perimeter rim joists and sill plates down to the stone foundation (88 linear feet), then cover the foam insulation with R-19 fiberglass batt. In an unaccessible area they sprayed in dense packed cellulose insulation. Estimate: $987 Applegate workers came the next day to do the job. They were punctual, polite, honest, and neat.

The representative was very helpful in choosing the units, explaining advantages/disadv. of each unit. He worked to provide us with the best price and was very competative with others. The repre. had good knowledge of home building and construction, so was able to come up with the best set up to meet our needs. The technicians who did the install were great! They were considerate of our home, the worked hard during that nasty heat we had in June to finish so we could hook up the AC. They were pleasant, gave great explanations of each step, and very "on the job". The inspectator that came through later was also very impressed with the work they did on the install!

Wonderful. We had originally gotten an estimate and an expensive energy audit of our home through another company. In order to just fix the ventilation problems with them it was going to cost ~$2400 and that was without any insulation! We had been a bit shell-shocked by the first company and everything they were trying to make us afraid of/or push us to do right away. I am SO GLAD that I decided to get a second estimate before moving forward with the work and got one from Applegate. They were very professional. Kyle came out and took plenty of time to answer all of my questions and respond to my ideas about what we could do ourselves and how effective or ineffective it might be. He was very realistic about what should be dealt with soon and what could be put off a few years so that we could figure out what was the best plan for our family and our house with our budget. He was not pushy and I didn't feel like he was trying to scare me into doing anything. I was hoping their numbers were more reasonable that the first company because I felt so much more comfortable with them - I was very pleased to see that their prices seemed to be only 1/2 to 2/3 the price of the original company. And the first guy in my house could actually answer all my questions! (As opposed to the first company that had 4! different levels of workers in my house and none could answers my questions about the other levels of work/inspection until the 4th guy!) I was very pleased with the company from start to finish. Definitely get an estimate from them before you move forward with work from anywhere else!
Description of Work: They installed 9 soffit vents, and their corresponding baffles in the main attic, they fixed the upstairs bathroom vent so that it vented through the roof instead of into the attic. They covered the pre-existing gable vents, added additional fiberglass insulation in the area above the stairwell, they also added cellulose insulation to the attic and better insulated/sealed the two access points to the attic.

Kyle our salesman was on time and gave a detailed estimate of the work. We did have to make some changes as the job progressed but Kyle and our roofing crew made sure everything went smoothly. Crew cleaned job site after every day and we were pleased with results and workmanship. Applegate is very skilled at dealing with cathedral ceilings in log homes and that was one of the reasons we went with them. Would recommend them for your insulation work.

The Applegate service was very good and I would recommend the company to my friends. I plan to use the company for future maintenance service for my newly installed air conditioner, water heater and furnace. Their estimate was very detailed thus making it very clear what equipment and service we were paying for. The only rough spot was when the supervisor of the installation team did not keep a scheduled appointment and failed to call to inform us that he would not make the appointment. He claimed he could not get away from a job he working on but it is unprofessional not to notify us that he was not coming. The supervisor did show up to the next scheduled appointment. The installers were on time, hard working, clearly explained how all the equipment worked, cleaned my basement after their work was completed and reviewed their work with me to be sure everything I expected to be installed was completed before they left. Fortunately, the weather has been very hot thus providing a good test run for the air conditioner. I am happy to report that the new air conditioner keeps our whole house pleasantly cool.

After researching several companies to do home insulation, we contacted two to come to our home and give us free estimates on increasing the R value of the attic and blowing in foam insulation in the walls. We chose to go with Applegate because their foam product seemed to be safer. They were not our cheapest bid, but they did an outstanding job. We increased the R value in our attics from R15 to R60 with blown-in cellulose and had foam insulation blown-in the north and west walls of our quad level home. Kyle, the Applegate representative, was very professional and took a great deal of time explaining the process and the different types of insulation. He then did a complete home analysis of our heating and cooling, measuring walls including windows, doors and doorwalls. We were promptly sent a detailed estimate of the job in the mail and chose to go with Applegate. We were able to schedule an insulation day within days. I was very impressed with the work of the installers. They were on time and after saying hello and going over the general plan, they got right to work. The installers were very friendly and answered any question I had concerning the job. Our home is aluminum sided with two attics, only one of which is accessible from inside the house. They chose to insulate the closed attic first. To access the attic, they removed the top four courses of aluminum at the peak of the home, being very careful with the siding. Using a saws-all, they made an opening to climb in. Greg, one of the installers climbed in and his dad handed him treated cardboard panels that they stapled onto each roof joist cavity for good air flow. They then put several measuring tapes to indicate height and filled up the attic with cellulose. This attic took less cellulose then initially quoted to reach R60 and Kyle reduced our bill accordingly. The hole was sealed and aluminum replaced. It looked like they had never been there. The second attic was accessed in the master bedroom walk in closet ceiling. The guys laid down covering for all the areas they would be working on before proceeding. This attic went much quicker due to the access. The installers cleaned up everything and left the inside very clean. We were going to have the walls done at a later time, but because we were so impressed with the ceiling job, we went ahead with the north and west walls. The same installers came out the next day around 9am. It was very hot, around 95 degrees by early afternoon. They removed a panel of aluminum around the north and west walls on both the first and second story. They had to remove a couple of courses around the windows and door areas. I was impressed at how careful they were with the siding. They drilled a hole in each wall cavity on both stories of the house. After some preparation of the materials, they proceeded to fill the wall cavities. They would fill the bottom section of the wall first and then the top section until foam came out the hole. being very careful to not spill the material. They would then place a Styrofoam plug into each hole to seal up the wall. They worked very hard only taking one small break for water in the morning and afternoon and a half hour lunch period. They worked until 5 pm and asked if they could finish the next day which we agreed to. Prior to leaving, they replaced all the aluminum siding and thoroughly cleaned up the job site. They arrived at 9am the following day and finished the job. in a few hours. They caulked every end of the aluminum siding they had removed. We had several days of 90 plus degree days and our home was so much more comfortable in all the rooms, especially the upstairs bedrooms. We were so impressed with Applegate , Kyle and the installers that we are considering a furnace replacement and have asked for a quote from them. Great company.

Our ranch style home was built in 1953 and had a low level of insulation in the attic, and basement crawl space. Not nearly up to code, so we have had a lot of drafty spots and cold floors. We scheduled an energy audit with one of the companies on the Consumers Energy list. After the (very impressive) audit, we got an estimate -- and a very hard sales pitch -- from the first company. Their quote (for $7,800+, after the CE rebate utilizing fiberglass insulation) included a number of suggestions that were marginal, and their sales representative did not have any building/construction experience. After checking around, and doing some research on types of insulation, we called Applegate. Their sales representative/estimator had lots of building experience, and advised us in very pragmatic ways. They used state of the art cellulose insulation, which is more cost effective, and included other improvements that the first company did not seem to understand (a couple of examples -- what needed to be done, or not, around canister lights, and how to vent bath fans through the roof). Applegate's workers were very efficient and courteous. When they inadvertently stapled one of the phone wires in our crawl space, thereby rendering our phone lines full of static and our home office fax line inoperable, the project manager sent an electrician out twice to fix the problem, at no additional cost to us. Their electrician was very knowledgeable, and got everything working in very short order. From the sales rep to the installers to the project manager and the electrician, they communicated really well between each other and with us. The $450 rebate was processed within CE deadlines, and brought our net cost down to the $3,590 as noted above. All in all, we were extremely pleased with Applegate and will definitely consider them for additional home improvements in the future.

I attended the Home and Garden Show at MSU several months ago, specifically looking for a furnace/AC. Pete was the most informative of anyone at other booths; he took the time to educate me about furnace function and options. Other companies were only interested in signing me up for estimates. I did get four estimates total, Pete was the only one who followed up after the estimate. Installation was scheduled with Tom, who called the day after I signed the contract, sort of far in advance because of my work schedule. Andy and Pat showed up promptly on Monday. They were so careful-putting down protective floor cover, and didn't make a scratch on the walls carrying the old furnace up a narrow, twisty staircase. On Tuesday, Andy and Forrest arrived to finish the installation. Again the floor covering was placed. The basement was immaculate when they finished. Landscaping was barely disturbed when the AC unit was placed. Andy and Forrest did an excellent job in explaining the programable thermostat, use of thehumidifier, changing filters, etc. This was a very good experience-I am glad that I choose Applegate.
Description of Work: Installation of new furnace and air conditioner.
