Response from Oak Electric Service Inc
After checking all of our logs and obtaining additional information from our Estimator (to whom your initial call was directed) - we have found that you have possibly mixed us up with another contractor as we never made an appointment to come to your home, neither for an estimate nor to do the actual work. Apparently there was only a brief, initial conversation where you stated that you had talked to our Estimator the day before and you were all set. However, our Estimator had not spoken to you the day before so this leads us to believe that there may be some sort of confusion.

I very much apologize, the girls must have either misunderstood your needs or just did not know that we do that kind of assessment - we can do that for our minimum call charge. I let all of the girls know that we do this, for future reference.

It went great. My wife worked with the office to schedule the work - no issues, no miscommunication. The guy came out as scheduled, checked everything out, answered all our questions. We got a detailed inspection report / invoice for our files, which makes me happy too.

It is disappointing to have to write this because Oak Electric installed our Generac generator and serviced it a highly professional manner for three years. After our last maintenance service and eventual repair I would recommend finding another company for generator maintenance. The fact that the ?technician? arrived one hour before the scheduled and confirmed time should have alerted us to the possibility that this company was not going to deliver the same standard of service. When I hurried home to meet the technician they were already back in their van. Supposedly our maintenance call was complete although our generator was not working because another repairman had listened by phone to our generator and diagnosed it needed a new starter. Fast forward one month with no generator while they located the parts. A capable, trained technician, Mike, came and identified the actual problem ... a spider web in the generator vent for an additional $99 charge. When questioned about this, Krista refused to reverse this charge maintaining that the maintenance service was ??good? and that we can not expect a well trained repairman for ?maintenance?. We would not have hired Oak Electric who charges $260 for this service if we thought they would send someone who could not troubleshoot and repair a spider web in a vent. If we had changed the filter and oil ourselves we would saved $260 and had use of our generator sooner because qualified service would have come sooner. Mistakes happen. However, since Oak Electric maintains this is good work and refuses to make any bill adjustment, I don?t think there is much hope they will train all technicians adequately.

Response from Oak Electric Service Inc
As Krystal stated...these multiple webs and nests were Only found because we took it apart to replace the starter (which would have been the correct initial thought on what was wrong with your unit, this is without taking it apart to troubleshoot). Taking the generator apart like we did, is not included in regular generator maintenance (whether we did this during maintenance or returned to troubleshoot). We spent more than an hour with a return call but still only charged fairly for 1 hour above and beyond maintenance ($99). We were happy to save you the money due to not needing a new starter and to waive our service charge due to you being a maintenance customer. We are truly sorry that this did not satisfy your expectations. Nikki is qualified and Generac factory trained/certified - she asked Mike for his opinion as she is newer to this than Mike and generally is sent on only maintenance calls as yours was initially thought to be - you were not charged for her extra time on the day of your maintenance. Mike returned to troubleshoot and possibly install a starter replacement (charging only as if he were doing it the same day as your maintenance, with no service charge). We covered only our costs by charging the additional $99, with our only concern being a satisfied customer and we stand by this decision. Thank you for your time.

When the salesman came he told us the generator would run the whole house except the air conditioning. If we wanted the air then we would need a bigger gas line. We told him we did not need the air during a power outage. The installers came as scheduled. There were 6 guys, two of which were electricians. They spend from 8am till 5pm doing the installation. During the installation of the new electrical panel they told me the generator would not run the air, the stove, oven and dryer. This will not be a big deal but this is not what the salesperson told us. This could have been a real problem if those items would have been important to us and they had already been working for about 6 hours when we had this conversation. Also, during the panel installation they cut the hole too wide so there was a gap around the side and bottom. The head installer told us he would go back and put in an order for a guy to come back and frame in the panel to cover the gap in the wall. It has been a month and we have not heard from them since. My husband got tired of looking at the hole and finished the job himself. I did tell the lead installer to go back and tell the salesman not to come to someone's home and promise them something that is not accurate. It does the company and the installers a disservice.

Perfect, very professional. They even provided the landscaping around the generator. They complete all work including the gas line hook up and transfer switch. They also added a new breaker panel in my garage with circuits for my air compressor and welders. They arrived on time and complete all work the same day. Four years later the generator performs as expected and no issues with their work, never had to make a call back. The generator has only received scheduled maintenance.

The initial appointment went great and I received all the information I asked for. Very professional presentation explained the pros and cons of different solar systems. Two scheduled appointments later - in order to tailor the solar installation in detail had to be moved to new dates. In the end, an email glitch prevented Oak electric's follow up mail to reach me and I had already contracted with a competitor when Oak electric followed up. It was bad timing. The professional knowledge and thoroughness of Oak Electric when it comes to photo voltaic systems, in my mind is unquestioned.

They were terrific. Called ahead that they were on their way. Arrived on time. And installed the generator in the period of time they said it would take. .The crew arrived on time and completed the job quicker than estimated. They were professional and thorough. When installation was complete they went over all the aspects of operation which included features and service. We had a power outage a few weeks later and the generator worked flawlessly for (4)days. (1) small issue arose, a minor oil leak for which they returned out a couple of weeks later diagnosed, repaired and completed an oil change free of charge. The total cost was higher than we wanted to spend but, after the experience of the install and after service, we realized that is was money well spent. We would recommend and use Oak Electric in the future. Since the last up date we have had several issues with the generator. One of which included a cracked motor which was replaced under warranty. Oak Electric has been absolutely fantastic. They have responded to all of our calls and addressed all issues without any cost to us. Cannot say enough good things about the quality and integrity of this company. A++++

Oak Electric sold me the generator and has performed warranty and annual service sense purchase. The installation was done on time. Installers were efficient and helpful. Upon completion, clean up was excellent. Annual service has been scheduled to meet my schedule. Their review of generator performance and fine tuning was thorough and not rushed. I am pleased with generator performance and I would highly recommend this company.

After a power outage, my generator kicked in appropriately. When the DTE power came back on, the generator shut off at the right time, but I only had power to half of my house. I literally lost my freezers, and two refrigerator's worth of power in addition to the garage, and the basement office. I figured we had a brown out or something else was wrong so I manually overrode the generator and started it back up. (I did not run it all night though because of the neighbors and the noise) I called the Oak Electric after hours line at 9:20 pm. A woman called me at 10:04 pm and said that she would have Ryan call me back. Ryan never called me back even though I believe Ryan was my original installer. I finally called the after hours number again at 0700 the next day. The office was not open yet but the same woman said that they would make sure their techs knew. hours later, no call back. I called again on my way to work (I had to call my cleaning lady over early in case a tech arrived). I missed 1.5 hours of work already. They said that I was on their "ASAP" board and if someone else cancelled their generator PM, I would get service. ....hmm... not good. Later when I got to work, I called again and I was informed that I was on their schedule for July 8th (7 days later) unless an opening came up on the ASAP board. Are you kidding? I was pretty ticked off because I spent a lot of money for lots of electrical work with Oak and I had no intention of waiting 7 days for EMERGENCY SERVICE. (Possibly they did the 1 week wait to get rid of an emergency call?) I left the generator on all day but got out of work early (missing another 1.5 hours of work) and called someone listed on the Generac website as an authorized repair place. I called them at 4:29 pm, and the tech was knocking on my door at 4:50 pm. Yes, 21 minutes later!! It was a loose wire on the coil such that the unit was not tripping back to the household current on all sections.. He fixed it in about 10 minutes after diagnosis and only charged me for the emergency house call. The guy was right on target with the diagnostics and he had even reviewed all of my generator information before he knocked on my door. (he must have arrived about 15 minutes after my call. I dislike the thought of a company that sells emergency preparedness equipment not responding in a timely (reasonable) timeframe. Their business model must have changed lately because I for one am underwhelmed now. I am going to have my routine generator work and all of my electrical work moved to this new company that was responsive and not dismissive. Is this a geography thing because they are over 30 miles away? Then be up front and don't lead me on.
Description of Work: Nothing despite me calling their after hours line. They called one time and said that their service tech would call me. He never called and I went without full power to my house.

The technician who arrived was punctual and hard-working, but had no real knowledge of low-voltage systems. On his first visit, he spent several hours crawling around our attic trying to locate and identify the various relays up there. At one point, when he thought he'd completed the job, we found that NONE of the relays in our house worked. He went back up, worked for a while, and was able to restore things to how they were before we called him. He confessed that he had no idea what he'd done to make them work again. He came back for a second visit and proposed connecting one of the kitchen ceiling lights whose relay had failed to the main relay for the other kitchen lights, as he didn't know how to fix the bad relay. The other light that didn't work couldn't be fixed, at least by him. After several more hours, we had the jury-rigged fix working. He presented us with a bill for all the time he'd spent ($573.00), even though neither of the problems we'd called about had been satisfactorily solved. I offered him a check for part of the fee, saying that I wanted to talk to the owner of Oak to negotiate a fair price, but he suggested we not pay, but wait for an adjusted invoice. After more than two months, an invoice finally arrived. It was for the full amount, and was labeled "LATE," even though we'd never received an invoice up to this point. I wrote a letter complaining about the overcharge, but never heard back. We ended up paying the full amount, but will never use Oak Electric again.
Description of Work: We had used Oak Electric for years, and had been pleased with their service until this last occasion. Our home's lighting system is an older one, using 'low-voltage relays' rather than the normal switches. Oak Electric had, in the past, been able to fix problems in this system. In November two of our relays stopped working, so we called Oak and specifically asked for someone with experience in low-voltage systems.

Oak Electric was more willing to spend the time to look at my situation and consider various solar panel system alternatives. After talking with them, they presented the best package. I am very satisfied with the system and the installation, but the installation did not go perfectly. For example, at the municipal inspection, both the inspector and Oak agreed some of the panels had not been tightened down properly. Oak Electric worked with me to promptly address this and a few other issues that I identified. Bottom line, because of its professionalism and resources, Oak Electric, in the end, provided a great system with which I am very satisfied.

The technician was on time and advised me as to which fixture I should use (of the two I had purchased in advance). He was thorough, courteous and quick! The basic charge is for one hour of service. When he finished the ceiling light in about 40 minutes, the electrician asked if there were any other small jobs I needed done since I still had some time left. He installed a dimmer switch for my dining room chandelier at no extra charge! (I had the switch on hand.) I was THRILLED! I've used Oak Electric before. They have always been dependable and fair. I highly recommend them!

The sales representative was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions, and provided all the advice I needed. He was able to tell me the pros and cons of the different brands of solar panels etc and to explain the available the tax rebates and how I can get money by selling excess electricity when I have it and also renewable energy credits. The guys from Oak Electric always came when they said they would and took care of everything. They were always very polite and considerate while working at my house. With a house as old as mine (103 yrs) and technology as new as solar which is still evolving, there are bound to be some surprises along the way but the Oak people dealt with everything that came up in a very professional manor and made sure the job was done right. The whole project was totally painless for me.
Description of Work: Oak Electric furnished and installed a complete Photovoltaic Solar power system with battery backup. This included 18 solar panels, a grid tie inverter, battery inverter, 8 batteries, battery housing, and monitoring package. They handled all required paperwork and coordination with Detroit Edison for connecting my system to the grid. They also arranged for the required inspections and made sure that my system satisfied the inspector.

After the work was completed I inqured about installation of a back up generator and was told I should expect a follow up call. On my work order the employee wrote "customer very interested in a back up generator, please follow up". There was no follow up for a few months, so I called the company to inquire and was told I would get a call back. I did that twice and have yet to recieve a call back. Based on that service I am not sure I would recommend them to someone else. Follow up and customer service are key to good business practices. I would use them again to see how the service might have improved.
