+ -1 moreSee above. I was very nearly cheated out of $3600 to replace an air conditioning unit that wasn't even broken.
Description of Work: Took cover off my ac unit, told me it was shorting to ground, that he couldn't get parts to repair it because it's obsolete (it's 10 years old), and also said NOT to turn the breaker on because it could start a fire and burn my house down. He recommended a new 2.5 ton air conditioning unit (I have a 1300 Sq ft condo) for $3600. I was so devastated and don't have $3600 to throw around because I just had to get a car and recently remodeled my kitchen. So I decided to get a 2nd opinion and called 1st Heating & Cooling. Their guy brought all kinds of testing equipment, took the cover off the ac unit (I never told him anyone else had looked at it), he tested a bunch of stuff and said everything was fine. He went into the basement, flipped the breaker on (my house didn't burn c down), tested the 40 amp breaker and said the ac was pulling about 14 -15 amps, charged me $85 for the service call and said, due to the age of my unit, and depending on how much I use it, I can expect it to run good for 2 - 5 more years. So, it's not even broken and I almost got taken for $3600! To be fair, I called Krane and told the owner what happened. He was really upset, and I believe his service guy, Darrell, got fired. He asked me not to put a review on Angie's List, and I didn't for a couple of days. But I am still so angry about what happened to .even and wonder how many $3600 air conditioners Darrell sold before getting caught. Krane presumably vetted this guy before they hired him. I guess you just have to be careful and smart. I called Krane's e because they were on Angie's List. If you hire Krane, ask if Darrell still works there and if they say yes, I recommend you use someone else or hold onto your wallet.

+ 0 moreJeff was very responsive to my initial phone call, and Bryan arrived right on time and was very professional and friendly. He went right to work and did a fine job of installing the appropriate ductwork to direct heat and cool air out through the toe-kick under my-yet-to-be-installed vanity in the master bathroom. The previous owners had allowed the heat and cool air to funnel directly into the empty space under the old vanity, thereby trapping it and not getting any use out of it. I have another bathroom that needs the same treatment when it comes time for a new vanity, and I also need to replace a 29-year-old furnace and A/C. I'm very happy with their work and would hire them again in a heartbeat.

+ -1 moreVery nice people. Called a number of times to make sure scheduled time was ok. Technician was very nice. Check was brief; just the essentials. Some spring checkups include cleaning coils and calibrating thermostats. This one did not. All in all I got my money's worth.
Description of Work: Purchased a spring AC checkup with an Angie's list special. Nice people. Checked filters, relay, and compressor performance.

+ -1 moreThey came back two months later for the FREE evaluation of the Furnace and stated that the Heat exchanger was cracked and needed immediate replacement. This was NOT true!!! the unit was old but was not in in need of immediate replacement. I also found out through another service provider the the price I paid for the Air Conditioning unit was TOO high. I had many discussions with the owner and was unsatisfied with the result of the conversations, I therefore; would NOT recommend this company to anyone. I did have an issue last week with the unit not working, so I called them to see if they would honor their warranty and fix whatever was wrong. To my amazement the lady on the phone immediately respponded with I can schedule a person out there but it most likely would be a paid service call as it would be something other than their workmanship. I told her not to worry about it and I would take care of it myself. It ended up being a blown circuit breaker that they were supposed to have replaced when they replaced the Air Conditioning unit last fall. I put in a new breaker and the problem is solved. It is a shame that this company can't even get it right to what they promise.

+ 0 moreIn a word "Great". Even though the temperature was comfortable, the Krane representatives made a point of servicing our A/C system before this weekend....which is forecasting 80+ degrees. Daryl, our serviceman, contacted us to advise that he could arrive 11/2 hours early; which worked for us. He reviewed the compressor, check voltage levels and identified a problem with the low-voltage circuit; very professional and methodical. We then reviewed the furnace and upon removing the service panels he noticed a loose wire; a low voltage wire. Daryl reinstalled the wire and all systems were go. I forgot to mention, that he removed his shoes before entering our house; very considerate. He also checked the temperature differential between the air return and plenum ducts to verify the temperatures met average or better....AOK. Before closing the panels, Daryl reviewed interior of furnace to verify we had no additional service needs and gave us some recommendations on filters and settings. Overall, Daryl was very professional, systematic and friendly. We are very satisfied with Krane Heating and Cooling.
Description of Work: Repaired a loose low-voltage wire, located in the furnace, that prevented the A/C compressor from operating.

+ -1 moreWe were very happy with them. They beat some of the competition and we got 3 bids on it and they were better. The price was better. Their availability was better. They're a big competitor here in town. It's a son who always had done a good job for us, but we got frustrated because you couldn't get on their calendar for weeks because they're so popular. When we needed something replaced, their bid on the job was lower and they were available to come do it more readily, and so we used them and probably we'll use them regularly because they were great. No complaints against who he is other than they are so popular that they're just hard to get in your house. Even for routine, we would be under maintenance plan and then you would have to book out like four months in advance to have him come look at your furnace or your AC. I have no complaints with them. They did everything very well. They showed up when they said they would. They were professional. They were ready. It's all good.

The technician came prepared with all of the correct tools for the job and fixed our issue promptly and for a great price! We are a construction company and plan to send all of our heating and cooling jobs to Krane from now on!

+ -1 moreThey pretty much did an up and up nice job. We don’t have any problems with them. We had to have them comeback out because the furnace had stopped working. They came back out to look at that and they had not wired one of the wires back in completely and it came out. It had turned off the flow to our furnace so they came out and fixed it. They didn’t charge us anything. They gave us the ultimate apology. They admitted it. They told it should have been fixed when they came out to do the air conditioner so they apologized. The way they explain it, it sounds like I am getting a good deal. I don’t know if they are the most affordable option. Everything they did seem to be pretty solid. There are no leaks and everything looks clean, nice and efficient. Everything still works. They came out pretty quickly both times. They were always within 10 minutes when they said they were going to be there. The guy that we worked with was very honest. He took me through and showed me everything; prior to and afterwards. I didn’t feel like they were hiding anything. They really seemed like they were genuine in what they were doing. We have used them once before so we called them back again because we had used them once before.

+ -1 moreAfter having a few different companies out to quote, all were fairly similar in pricing and upon doing my research I didn't find too much of a benefit from going with one of the big name brands from another. After talking more in depth about options and pricing, I felt very comfortable almost as I was doing business with a family or friend (the good ones of course). Once I made the decision and had Krane come out to do the work I was reassured by the crew that came out. Not only did they meet my expectations but they beat them as well. Work was very clean, the crew was organized and answered any questions that I had while they were working, even if it was a little off topic. Hands down one of the best experiences I've had from a service company
Description of Work: Called them out to check out my furnace as it didn't seem as it was operating efficiently and it had a faint smell of gas coming through the exhaust as well. Overall they ended being the company I had to replace my furnace.

+ 0 moreWe had our furnace serviced two days ago by a different company that did a lousy job. They replaced the heat exchangers but in the process burned down a control board, broke a pipe and nearly burned down our electrical circuits due to short circuits and overcurrent coming from improper wiring that they did. They eventually got it right - or so we think - but as soon as they left, we had a bad smell coming from the furnace and we thought it's going to blow on us. This is where we decided to hire Krane Heating to do an inspection. Deryl came over and was exceptionally nice to me. He was pleasant to talk to and he explained everything he observed. He did notice the smell and took a careful look at the furnace. He did not observe anything unusual - seems that the other company did install it correctly but he was a little concerned about the smell. He said it's probably from the new heat exchangers that have some oil coating on them that needs to burn off with time. He said that he's job is on the line if he were to make a mistake, so he seemed pretty confident that he diagnosed it right. He offered to help if the smell does not go away in a few days and we'll gladly call him back if that happens. He checked for CO emissions too. Also he found some ductwork that was hanging ready to fall and notified me about it. Overall good job. He did not do much but it didn't hurt having him over and look. Price was reasonable comparing with the other company that charged almost double just for the estimate.

Description of Work: I received a call 2 hours before the scheduled estimate time that they were cancelling my appointment. I had a short window of time for the estimate because our realtor had to be on hand since we do not own the home yet. I was told that the employee who scheduled the appointment did not have the experience to know that the job was too extensive for their company. They left me in the lurch with little time to find another contractor to provide the estimate.
