Kotz Heating & Air Conditioning

I pay an annual maintenance fee of $180 or something for them to come out twice a year.

Initially, we were having some trouble with our humidifier that our previous furnace company was not able to repair. I delegated the task of selecting another company to my wife. After some research, she made the decision to try Kotz. We have been with them for several years now, and we are generally happy with their performance. We also have been using Brinkers, which is a plumbing company also under the same ownership. During this time, Kotz has performed furnace maintenance, as well as installation of a new furnace, a humidifier, and an air conditioner unit. I am very impressed with the general knowledge level of their technicians. Their tool kits are well-thought out, and in asking questions about some of their tools, I've ended up purchasing some of them for my own home tool kit. Their routine maintenance is excellent and very thorough compared to the companies we previously used who were "blow and go." My wife and I do plan on staying with both Kotz and Brinkers, but I would like to explain the reason why I have marked them down to a B instead of an A. The one thing that I do not like about this company is that they are always trying to work some angle on me that kind of rubs me the wrong way. When we first tried Kotz, I wasn't sure that I wanted to have a long-term relationship with them by being under contract. I just wanted to pay them a fair price to deal with our humidifier and then decide if we would like to use them more in the future. Unfortunately, you do not get discounted rates with Kotz unless you are under contract with them, so it effectively twists your arm to enter into a maintenance agreement with them. They are aggressive business people, and if they sense that your equipment is nearing the end of its usable life then there's even more incentive to have you under contract so that their foot is already in the door when it comes time for replacement. They walk a fine line with me. They are definitely not shysters and they are not dishonest, but they are a little too aggressive for my tastes. Their service technicians have been excellent, and for that reason we have stayed with them. In one instance, they did some work on our air ducts to try to make for better airflow in certain areas of our house. An unfortunate side effect of the work was to create white noise in one room under certain conditions. A technician came out and concluded that some further work would need to be done to remedy the white noise situation. He said that someone would not be out right away, but they would get back with us. A minute later he repeated the same thing. I thought to myself, "OK, let's see how long it will be then." A month went by and I did not hear from them. When my wife brought up the issue again, I said that I was testing Kotz to see how long it would take them given what they had said. My wife wanted to end my experiment and get the work finished, and so I called Kotz back up. They set up an appointment to finish their work. I cannot give them full marks in this area, although most of their actions have been very satisfactory and prompt. After every visit, they are always twisting my arm to write a review for them on other sites. It is my understanding that their workers get paid an extra $10 if the customer will write a review. I'm turned off by this policy because I'm not getting a discount to function as a publicity arm for their company (and I have a limited amount of public relations experience on my resume). Unfortunately, there are some talented and sincere employees who are fully deserving of their pay, so today I relented and wrote the review on the other site. This review on Angie's List constitutes my way of balancing the account to state that I do not appreciate having to write these reviews in order for their workers to get the full amount of pay that they deserve. It is unfortunate that I have had to focus on the negative aspects of this company in order to justify marking them down from an A to a B. In general, this is an excellent company that does high quality work--so keep that in mind! I plan on continuing to do business with both them, as well as Brinkers in the future. The new equipment that they have installed has turned out well for us so far. In conclusion, this is a worthy company that is deserving of your attention.

Service Tech Norm arrived as promised around 2:00 pm. He came in and looked over the system and within 15 minutes, isolated the primary problem that caused the boiler to fail. He had the part on the truck, installed it, and within a very short timeframe, the furnace was back up and running! As I type this, it is 18 degrees outside, so this type of quick fix is MUCH APPRECIATED. While there, Norm identified 2 additional parts on the boiler that are on the verge of failure and gave me the price quote to fix these and an approximate timeline to avoid another outage. He also told me about their 3 year maintenance plan for covered cleanings. The plan also provides discounts on parts, so I did the math in my head and determined that this was an outstanding deal and signed up for it. My home is now heated again as the snow flies outside! I highly recommend this company.

Troy cleaned the furnace as part of the routine maintenance program. It was quite dirty since we just moved in and the previous homeowners neglected it. He recommended replacing a part for $75 to avoid having to later replace an expensive blower motor. He called ahead and was right on time, was professional and friendly.

Called for service since the furnace was not working. First they tried talking through the problem so see if it could be resolved over the phone. When that wasn't possible, they gave an estimate as to when they could be out and ended up being able to come out sooner. The tech was able to quickly diagnose the problem and fix it.

Maintenance of our air conditioning unit went smoothly. We use for all of our heating and cooling needs. Reliable, professional, and always willing to provide multiple options with cost estimates. Outstanding customer service.

When city inspector to sign off on the permit for the furnaces his comment was he you don't see work this good anymore he was very impressed with the Kotz

It went very well. It was the coldest winter on record. Our furnace was working at about half power. They asked if we could wait a few days to install to accommodate customers with no heat at all. We agreed. I appreciated their concern for other customers in more dire circumstances. They showed up on time and were done within a few hours. Everyone from the installers to the salesman were professional and courteous. I have heard other people say that they are pricier than other companies but given that they did what they said they would do in a timely manner, I feel it was worth it. The furnace works great. We have had no problems since installation.

It turned out that there was a lot of dust built up under the water heater. He dusted it away and jiggled a wire, and then the pilot light lit. The pilot light wasn't getting enough air because the dust was blocking it.

My furnace wasn't working properly. Kotz came out and charged me $125 to tell me the gas valve was bad and it would be a $600 repair. Since it's a fairly new furnace, I told them I wanted to get a second opinion. Hired another company who only charged $80 for the service call, and the guy fixed it in 5 minutes. There was nothing wrong with the gas valve, there was some safety switch on the pilot light (sorry, don't know exactly what it's called) that wasn't properly aligned. He literally straightened it out and the furnace came right on. Very disappointed in Kotz after all the good reviews I read on them, and I completely wasted $125 on their service call to try and upsell me on unneeded service.

Went well. Very informative. Not pressure oriented. Left final choice to me. Joined AC furnace maintenance plan.

Fantastic service, as usual. My AC went out on me, so I called and they were able to get someone (Scott W) out right away. An animal had chewed up some wires, so he replaced the wires and it's back up and running. Great company, trustworthy employees, always on the ball.

mounted unit on the wall and went the extra step of camouflaging the wires and pipes in a downspout. other contractors that have seen that were impressed. They put down tarps along the entire path to the bedroom and cleaned up all shipping boxes at the end.

Kotz did a great job. I was happy with their price and their professionalism. On time, which is what you really want when having a contractor come to your house.

My experience was very good. They are very professional. They are not the cheapest but the work was quality and I never had an issue.

This was a very good experience with this company! The technician was injured before coming, but still showed up with another tech who could complete the project. He remembered to put a surge protector on from this past summer! They were very thorough!

Sally came out for an estimate for a new furnace. She is very knowledgable and gave me an honest opinion along with our estimate. The best sales person I have dealt with in a long time!

I contacted the company the night before. The said they could have someone come out the next day between 9-Noon. They sent an email with the technician's picture. He arrived a little after 9AM as promised. He diagnosed the problem and had the system back up and running before it hit 89 degrees. Joe told me the cost of the service call (confirmed what I heard the night before) when he arrived. At the end of the service call he detailed the price (cost of the call, plus the part, minus the coupon). He also laid out what the cost would be if I went with a service plan. There was no pressure but decided to go ahead with the plan since it is an older unit.

From estimate to installation the process went well. Neil, the salesman, was informative and not pushy. I told him I had other issues to deal with & would get back to him in about a month. .He thankfully did not call every other day for a decision. When I called him, we reviewed the scope of work & updated agreement. The installation was scheduled around my schedule. Mark & Dave arrived on time and started work right away. The job took most of the day, which was expected. Dave even relocated a plant that was in the way of the air conditioner. They worked together as a team and treated each other politely. When everything was done, Mark showed me how the thermostat worked and had the paperwork for utilities ready. They cleaned up their entire mess. Even though this was an expensive upgrade, I am glad I went ahead and had in done I cannot believe how quiet the air conditioner & blower are.

I made an appointment to fix my AC, but they couldn't come until the next day and the heat was just too much. Very professional and easy to work with and I'm sure I'll be using them in the future.

They did an excellent job. I was impressed because they came out and did everything, all in one day. I highly recommend professional from the person who came out and set it out to the people who did the work. They work with us some of the price to set up a financial situation within a private union.

When calling to ask questions & make the appt, I had Jill on speaker. Because she was so professional and thorough, my friend commented on the call & was very impressed with Jill. She was the reason we chose Kotz. When Mike came out to service the A/C, he wore booties without me asking, answered every question, encouraged me to look over his shoulder, & spoke very highly of Frank and his company. I was worried about the blower fan & heat exchanger which wasn't included in the service but because it was a real issue for me, he pulled out the guts & took a look at it. His service & belief in his company made it easy to go with a maintenance contract with Kotz. Mike also pointed out information I wasn't aware of with DTE appliance coverage -I called to verify this info with DTE & Mike was correct. AAA+++++& 5 stars to Jill, Mike & Kotz!!

The person sent to give an estimate was overwhelmed and indicated someone else would have to come and look. The other person apparently decided he didn't want to bother and they just sent an estimate way over my other estimates so they wouldn't have to do the job.
