Michael and his son came to give us a home inspection for a home we were considering purchasing. There was an area in the basement we wanted him to pay special attention to because the previous homeowner indicated "moisture" would occur with sudden thaw. The basement was dry walled and carpeted. They basically looked at the wall and stated not sure what was going on because of dry wall. I then proceeded to ask if they can tell if there was any moisture behind the wall. A hand held device was then brought out at my request and was told NO moisture was detected. We were told that the outside of the house needed to be regraded and that would probably fix our problem. There were also several cracks on the front porch and no advise was given. After purchasing the home, and the dry wall was removed, we ended up with $25,000 in structural damage due to water leaks and bowing walls that was never caught in the basement. The foundation company knew exactly where the area of concern was just by walking up the house. The front porch was cracking due to foundation issues that Oakland Home Inspections never caught. There was also brick seperation on the exterior in the same area of concern that was never caught. We were also concerned about mold. We were told that they did the "nose test" and didn't smell any mold in the basement. After tearing out the drywall, we found several areas with black mold. The home is over 3400 sq feet and the inspection took no more than an hour and charged us $600. They didn't even get on the roof to check the roof's condition. WE WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT THIS HOUSE IF WE KNEW THERE WERE FOUNDATION ISSUES THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CAUGHT. Horrible inspection. Stay clear of this company!!! People hire home inspectors for their expertise and it definitely was not there. Micheal bragged about writing articles for the newspaper and how many years of experience he had. Not evident with this inspection at all.

[Member Name Removed], we had informed you verbally and it was clearly documented in the home inspection report along with multiple photographs showing the house had major issues. Moisture meter showed (Zero) moisture on paneled walls in basement at time of inspection. Wall cracks were identified and documented in the report as major concerns to the dwelling. Mold testing was recommended however, you declined the air spore mold test which would have identified any and all issues behind paneled walls... We had in fact informed you the house had major issues and would be expensive to fix, so why did you even buy this house?

No good - see above question and quot;What did the provider doand quot;
Description of Work: We paid $600 for a home and septic inspection in April 2013 and was given the all clear by Mike of Oakland Home Inspections. We closed on home in mid-June 2013. We moved in mid-July because we spent several weeks painting and prepping the home. By the beginning of August 2013 (less than 4 weeks after moving into the home) we were having septic issues and contacted the Twp and County (and have verification/documentation of such). We tried to contact Oakland Home Inspections but played phone tag for a while. In the mean time we had the septic cleaned at which time we were told that the field was bad (have documentation of this as well). Since then, we have had the septic cleaned 2 additional times and are currently working with the County and various companies trying to get a reasonable quote for replacement of the field. We finally reached out to the Inspector (Mike from Oakland Home Inspection) via email because clearly telephone wasn't working. He told us that the inspection was just an opinion and sorry but too bad. We responded to his email via email stating that if the inspection had been done accurately we would have NOT purchased this home and that we wanted to work with him to reach an agreement that would work for all parties involved. He responded again saying we were harassing him and that we need to stop contacting him (after just 2 emails. Great customer service!) and that ANYONE and I quote "including the paperboy" could do an inspection because it's just an opinion and there are no rules in Oakland County, Michigan to govern inspectors. Clearly there is an issue here if "professional" people can spout any old "opinion" off, take fees for said "service" and not be held accountable for their so-called work. I'd stay VERY far away from this inspector. We bought a property with $30,000 worth of damage based on a home inspection that came back good, but was clearly not. As evidenced by his attitude towards working with us (or lack thereof!) to resolve this issue, it's clear he doesn't care about his work or his clients.

14-months after i inspected this customers septic system the customer emailed me asking that i pay him $15,000 for repairs or he would seek legal help. (He was not kind or polite) After reviewing my septic report records the report clearly stated the condition of the field was not in good working condition.

When we arrived at 10:00 A.M. Mike was already working. He was inspecting the exterior of the home. He was recording detailed notes about the exterior of the home. He stopped to introduce himself and chat for a few minutes. We were encouraged to follow him and take notes and ask questions. His notes were indicating if there were any major concerns (over $500.00), repairs, safety issues or recommended improvements. We learned a wealth of knowledge about the house. He did not hesitate to answer our questions no matter how small they were. He even fixed a loose door knob. We confident in proceeding with our home purchase after his 40 plus page review that he sent to us later that day. The whole process took about 3 and 1/2 hours. it was well worth the money spent.
Description of Work: We called Oakland Inspections on Tuesday May 13,14 to preform a home inspection on a house we had place a purchase offer on. We were under a time deadline to have the home inspection done. Several other companies could not preform the work on that Saturday. They were either already booked or did not work on Saturdays. We were glad Mike was available We ask for a complete inspection $400. We also needed a radon inspection $165.00 and a mold inspection $300.00 . This placed the cost higher than most general home inspections.

The very best home inspector! Mike is extremely knowledgable, thorough, and helpful. He walks you through the entire inspection giving you a detailed report of what is wrong, why its wrong, and what needs to be done to correct it. You also receive a detailed written report that includes pictures. He is an absolute pleasure to work with and no one I know will ever use any other inspector again!

Michael Saari was very accommodating. He inspected our house on the weekend when we were in a rush. During the inspection Mike helped us to understand the fixes that would need to be done and how we could do it ourselves. He was very honest and even let us get involved in the inspection and his report was beautiful too! The report came the same day as the inspection.
