Richards & Swift Roofing

The roof on our 3 bed room ranch home sustained hail damage from a storm in April and our insurance company was willing to fund the replacement of our roof. We called multiple companies to get quotes and to evaluate the level of service that we could expect. Richard's Roofing was the first to contact us and provided the most in-depth explanation of how they would replace the existing roof to include cost, timeline, shingle/tar paper quality, areas that received ice & water shield, flashing replacement and installation, vent choice and quality as well as the qualifications of the crew that would perform the job. Out of the 4 other companies we called only two bothered to come by. Neither evaluation was as thorough as Richard's Roofing. Furthermore the quality of their materials and overall cost of the other two competitors we not even close to Richard's Roofing. Richard's Roofing completed the job in one day! Additionally one of the owners came out the following day to make additional adjustments and ensured the job was done right. Bottom-line if you have an issue with your roof these are the guys to call!!

They came out right away and gave an estimate. They were polite and still did the work even though is was a smaller job. We were very happy with them.

Based upon the positive feedback on Angie's List, we called and left a message for roof repair and did not get a call back.

I got no response from my message that I left on Tuesday, may 11th, 2010. I called again at the two numbers on Angie's, but no one answered at 1030AM on Friday, may 14, 2010...so I gave up and left no message. I needed help with a repair job on a section of my elderly father's gutters, but guess that was too much to ask to get a basic call back. I know the economy sucks and people are busy/ depressed...but to not answer the phone numbers or call back after several days is just ridiculous.If the company was on another job, they could have at least called back...right?

Jim from Richard's Roofing came to give me an estimate on replacing the roof. The roof I had was not very old just badly done. I had started to have ice dam problems, leaks on the ceiling and water running down a wall to the basement. After he gave me the estimate I set up a date for removal , which was fairly quick. His resposiveness was phenomenal given that we are in the rainy season. A large crew came on the agreed upon date. All went smoothly, he applied 6' of ice shield (good-bye ice dam). He even added a new counter flash on the chimney and did not charge me for it. They asked what I wanted protected on the ground around my house before they started. I had them drop tarps all around freshly applied mulch the entire permineter and my deck area. They even did a fairly good job cleaning up all of the roofing nails that scattered. I was very pleased with the quality of work that they did. Every one of the crew gladly answered my questions throughout the job . They were also very responsive to anything that I asked of them. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

They did not return call for a week to set an appointment. Called to inquire about it and then found out they did it that day. That was the only issue.

He was very thorough. He did a very good job. He had to remove the gutters and he cleaned up very well. He painted after he was finished and it looks very good. I was pleased. I did think the price was a little high but the work was excellent. He was very pleasant to work with. He explained exactly what he was going to do and how he was going to do it. They were very prompt.

There was a prompt response and repair, with the owner being part of repair team. Several probable leak sources were identified, and an 20x20 area of roof was replaced with new shingles over waterproof padding. I think this should resolve the problem.

Their team showed up as scheduled and conducted a well ordered execution of the roof replacement activities. They had plenty of help to sufficiently handle all work that needed to be done and went beyond my expectations with replacing weathered wood trim where it was needed. The quality of the materials and the workmanship was the highest at all levels. The person I had contracted the work with came by repeatedly while the work was in process to ensure all work was being performed correctly and to address any questions I had. After the work had been completed they conducted their own inspection and corrected any oversights that may have occurred while the work was being performed. The cleanup activity restored my yard to it's original state prior to the work being started. Before payment, we conducted one final review of the completed job and all my questions were answered. All warranty and guarantees were clearly explained and unused portions of remaining shingles were provided to me for future repairs should they be required as a result of storm damage. All members of their team were professional and anxious to answer any questions I had. I received a high quality roof replacement for a fair price and I would have no reservations with recommending or referring them to my family, friends, and associates.

I called to request help with gutters that were not tilted correctly and to add a downspout. We also wanted to have the roof checked in one area for a possible leak. They said they could come out (I believe 11/10) and check it out. Since the time of day didn't matter to me, he said he would give me a call before he came by. When I didn't hear from the company again, I hired a different company.

It is hard to evaluate the job that they did on the roof; however, the work seems pretty good so far. I was generally satisfied with them but their cleanup was not perfect. I looked at a number of different providers and I think that their price was actually good. I would use them in the future, if necessary.

They did an excellent job. I am happy with that. They came out when we wanted them to. They were here in a timely fashion. We are happy with their quality work and timeliness.

Jim called me back right away after I left a message detailing some dampness and cracks on my family room ceiling. I was relieved that he returned my call so quickly. I had another contractor out to look at the roof as well and told him I'd call him when they were finished. When I called, Jim came out (about 30 minutes later!) and checked out the problem and said it should be no big deal to fix--he asked me if I had a broom, and swept debris off the roof, and then caulked around the flashing. Another company said it would be $450 to have it re-flashed, without offering cheaper options first. He said that if re-flashing turned out to be necessary it would be $250. He told me what to watch for and just to call him if I noticed further leaking. I was very impressed by his honesty and that I didn't feel like he was trying to make a sale. In fact he estimated my roof was only about 10 years old and that it probably has another five years in it--good news for us! While up on the roof, Jim also noticed that the old windows facing that part of the roof were badly in need of caulk. He happened to have some in the car, hopped back up on the roof and caulked them saying that this might well have been part of the cause of our leak. We have a lot of other maintenance issues to take care of right now (all-new HVAC and insulation among other things) so we were SO relieved that he was able to offer an easy (and FREE) fix! When the time comes to get a new roof we will definitely call Richards Roofing. Jim, the employee who came out to do the work, was an excellent representative for the company! You can tell they are willing to go the extra mile for their customers.

The company came out, gave an estimate and began work within days of me calling to schedule the job. they began at 8 a.m. and were finished and cleaned up by 5:30 p.m. other than some nails that didn't make it to the dumpster and bits of crumbled shingle, the cleanup was exemplary.

They found a large section with bad plywood and replaced them as well. They worked hard to keep cost down as much as possible and came up with lot of alternatives. Their pricing was very reasonable as well. The crew who came was very nice and cleaned up once the job was done. The quality of their work was very good and I was satisfied with their service.

They were good. One of the crew slipped due to cold weather and put a foot through the bedroom ceiling. They repaired it very quickly and nicely. It was nice that they worked so fast and good during December when it was so cold.

When Jim looked over the problem area, he noticed that some nails had popped on the roofing material causing water to enter the house. He also noted that the replacement roofing material hadn't been installed properly -- my wife and I have lived in this house for five years, and when buying it, we were told that it was two years old at that time. I didn't have any documentation on what company did the job for the previous owners. From start to finish, it took Jim only fifteen minutes to complete the work. The best part was that he didn't even charge a dime for doing the work.

There were no suprises estimate wise with this company. They had to replace a few more boards than anticipated but the cost was not alot more than the estimate. I had to call twice to understand when they would arrive, and when clean up would be completed. My husband and I removed the shingles they left on the lawn overnight so it wouldn't kill our grass. Otherwise they did a great job and I have recommended them to a neighbors son for his gutters. I found this company on Angies List and was very comfortable with them as a result. They did not disappoint.

Excellent. We received a fair price and our customer rep, Jim was great. It cost exactly what was quoted. They worked with us on the installation date. Showed up on the day we agreed upon and the work was done on time. The crew was curtious and cleaned up after themselves when they were done. The quality of the roof was excllent!

Prompt responses to all calls. Had to remind them twice that work was not complete.

Full crew arrived on schedule, immediately went to work. No excessive noise, stopped only for short lunch break. Clean-up and work completed by 4 PM.

Our roof was 20 years old and should have been replaced last fall. I found Richard's Roofing on Angie's List; first call I made. Jim was in the area, came over within 30 minutes(!), inspected the roof, made his recommendations and estimate. I then took the next 10 days to call several other companies, one from Angie's List, a few referred from friends, one from a local big box-type home improvement store. All had different recommendations due to the unique problems of our roof (two separate sections, we wanted ridge vents on the top section if appropriate). One quote was $9000, one $5800, others in between. Decided to go with Richard's because their plan made the most sense to us, ventilation-wise, came highly recommended by Angie's List, used American-made products (sorry, Canada), and their price was reasonable. The crew showed up on time (8 am); when they left at 5:30 that same day, no trace remained except a lovely new, improved roof. We did pay extra to have the drive tarped off; we did not want to take the chance of the delivery truck cracking our new-ish driveway (they used a 3-axle trailer centered on the drive to load all the debris). Jim's team complied with our requests, were friendly, polite, professional, and finished in one day even after finding so many damaged boards. Richard's was not the cheapest company, but we felt we wanted a good roofing system at a reasonable price, not just the cheapest. Just being the cheapest may mean cutting corners somewhere, in our opinion. The final cost was higher than the estimate, which only included 2 sheets of plywood (we needed 10 in all). We used a $100-off coupon from Angie's List, which Jim increased because a newer coupon had come out.

Just could not have asked for better service/response/approach to problem. Could have sold me the expensive fix first and I wouldn't have had the expertise to debate it. Great experience.
