Kapalua Floors

They did an excellent job matching to the existing floors. There was a miscommunication on the type of finish requested and the installers adjusted as needed before finishing the floors. Luckily they provided some examples for us to choose from on our actual floor before the final decision was made. New walls and there aren't any dings on them. Price was adjusted for final finish requested and ended up costing us less. There was a short transition piece delivered that concerned me but the installers switched it out with the local suppier without any troubles or delays. Good company and quality installation. Ohhh...and the sanding dust was well under control.

We had a hard time finding somebody knowledgeable enough to do this job, but Joe and his team were the clear winners.We havew new and old red oak and I wanted it WHITE. I have become a geek about floor finishes, from stains, to dyes, to oil based, to water based topcoats, sealcoats, and everything in betweeen. The finished result on our floors is so gorgeous it almost looks like laminate. It is the color I wanted using the products I wanted. Everything was top notch, prompt, courteous, I am over the moon and would recommend Kapalua to anyone needing the best. Don't take a chance with your floors. Also absolutely wonderful is the dustless system.

A company is only as good as its craft personnel, and the craftsmen at Kapalua are experts. The craft team of Rolando and Sean did excellent work. I felt as though they paid careful attention to even the smallest of detail and it shows. The floors are smooth, even, and have a natural look. A few boards needed to be replaced and you can't tell where they were laid in. My Red Oak floors are beautiful and look like new. I was initially told by the owner that the work would take 3 days, and the team finished on time. They arrived on time each morning and cleaned up beautifully at the end of each day. They were also courteous and professional at all times. The owner recommended water-based over oil-based polyurethane because of the safety of the low VOC's and the short drying time. I wasn't sure, but after the team explained the virtues of water based, their experience working with it, and also putting down samples after the final sanding, I did choose it. I am very happy with the results. There was virtually no odor and I was able to stay in my house for the entire process. I also had my doubts when I was told by the owner that the sanding would be "dustless", but it really was. No sawdust anywhere! The initial cost was $2677 for two coats, but I added an extra coat which was $675. The total cost was $3355.

The work was beautiful. The floors look great! Everyone at Kapalua was a pleasure to work with, the owner, the sales staff and the refinishers. We would happily recommend them to anyone considering refinishing wood floors. They will not disappoint!

Joe's explanation of the refinishing process was clear and accurate. The workers were prompt, cooperative, and competent, and the result was excellent. Their system is really virtually dustless and the project was much easier then I expected.

Great. Guys were on time, clean, friendly.

Crew of 2 arrived on day 1, removed carpet, started sanding. Day 2 more sanding, board repairs( day 1) , Day 3- finish sanding, stairs, satin finish, clean up. During stair choice they put down 6 samples went out of their way to please.

Kapalua went above and beyond. I am so happy I chose them to repair my floors instead of installing all new flooring. I wanted to keep as much of my old house in its original form and they certainly made that possible. It was incredibly cost effective as well. If anyone has damaged hardwood floors that they want repaired, I would certainly go through them!

Just an excellent job. Due to other issues with a general remodel of the main floor of our home, we had to reschedule, Joe was always accommodating to the best his busy schedule would allow. Also added some parts to the work as we went along (found that the existing kitchen island didn't have flooring under it, etc.). Plus he has excellent workers - guys who know their stuff AND are on time and professional. Would recommend them for any job you need done.

I live in an older home, built the mid 1950's early 60's. When I pulled up the carpet, the floors needed a little work as you can see below. After I read the reviews on Angie's List, I knew that I had to get an estimate from Kapalua Floors. I have to say, I didn't think they would live up to what I read....just read all the reviews. Could a company really be that good?? Well....I am here to tell you that, yes they can. Joe was great to work with from the start. I received my estimate very quickly and any time I had a question, he responded. The crew leader Rolando was incredible to work with. He and his crew did a great job. Take a look at the transition piece from my Kitchen to my Living room....I was so worried about that but Shawn did an outstanding job!!! Any concern I had, Rolando addressed it head on. No trying to go around the issue, he just wanted to make sure I was completely satisfied. Everyone in the company did. I have never worked with a company with such outstanding customer service. I cannot say enough about Joe, Rolando and everyone that I had contact with at Kapalua Floors. My floors are beautiful!!! I would highly recommend Kapalua Floors!!!

Amazing results. When I moved in my house a decade ago, the kitchen's hardwood floor had some water damage, especially around the dishwasher. A pet stain was added in a corner a few years ago and more wear and tear over the years. I wasn't expecting the floors to look as great as they do, they look brand new. These guys are craftsman. If I ever need work done again I will not bother to call any other company. Erik

Wonderful. From the initial estimate by Joe to the finished product by James and his crew, we were very impressed. They had to do the job in two phases due to the size and amount of our furniture and both times everything went smoothly. Highly recommend Kapalua!

Excellent!!! Best floor refinishing company ever!!! Workmen always arrived on time, were respectful, well-spoken, knowledgeable, meticulous, and extremely neat. Wood floor looks brand new, and is beautiful! Truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Kapalua Floors!

Workers showed up on time and got right to work. Equipment used is virtually dustless. We used a water based finish with little odor. Overall this company is the best one we have ever dealt with in over 45 years of home ownership. We would highly recommend.

Joe arrived on time and describe the process. Since I am chemically sensitive, he took extra time to explain the procedure and the products that would be involved with the refinishing. I chose to obtain an estimate from Kapula Floors because they employ workers who are proficient with the Bona dustless refinishing process.

Kapalua did excellent work and delivered a beautiful, high quality final product. There was absolutely no mess for me to clean up and they stuck to the schedule perfectly. The floors are stunning and look like brand new! The technician (Will) was wonderful to work with and even took time to teach me some of the details of the flooring process. He was very punctual, professional, and friendly. A few suggestions for improvement opportunities: - Timeliness of communication - I sent a letter in with my deposit asking for someone to contact me to discuss the issue of matching the stain color with no reply. A week before the job I left a voicemail for the owner, again to no reply. A few days before the job was to start, the office staff called me to confirm. I explained I was still waiting to hear back from the company, and finally I received a call back from the owner that day. I would've expected a call back within a day the first time I contacted them. - Problem solving - when I removed the carpet from my stairs I discovered they were not built with hardwood like the other stairs in my house, but rather basic wood with old vinyl tiles attached. I contacted the owner to discuss replacing them, but he raised all kinds of alarm bells about potential asbestos and mesothelioma and basically said I needed to get them tested by people in hazmat suits, etc., or get them carpeted - a service they don't offer. This is all a couple days before the job was scheduled, that I had taken time off for. I spoke to a family friend and he was able to install brand new hardwood over them easily in a morning for a very nominal cost. I feel like this was a problem the flooring company could've easily solved, rather than pushing it back on to me. Also, if there was a major asbestos risk to be concerned about, this should have been addressed up front and well in advance of the job. - Stain color - I hired them to match the existing stain on my other floors and the owner confirmed at the initial consultation that they would be able to match them very closely. As mentioned above, I raised this concern several times prior to the job starting, but it was not addressed until the job started. The technician tried very hard to match the flooring color, and had to go back the office and store a few times. The end result did not really match the floors at all, but was a beautiful color in and of itself. I understand this is probably challenging to do, and there doesn't seem to be a technological way to match stain colors like there is with paint colors. I feel like they had weeks to work on matching the color in advance, or advise me that it would not be possible. I'm happy with the end result, but I think people should be aware that matching existing floor colors is not likely very feasible. Overall I had a positive experience with Kapalua and would recommend them in the future. The floors and stairs look beautiful and the cost was competitive.

Everyone from Kapalua from first phone call (Abbey), to consultation (Joe), to work (Will) exhibited the highest level of knowledge and professionalism. Great customer service and quality of work. Joe (who is also the owner of the company) went above and beyond, especially reaching out and meeting up with me when I made the mistake of forgetting to sign my deposit check (whoops!)! The same goes for Will, who provided us daily updates on how work was progressing, and was happy to show us whatever shades of stain we wanted to look at. He was happy hang back an extra 10 minutes the first day (he probably would have waited longer) so my wife could get home and see the shades of stain on our floor, and even laid out one more (which we ended up choosing). Extremely happy with our floors from Kapalua. (A few before and after pictures included).

Kapalua came recommended. Rolando, the crew chief, could not have been better. He was very professional and was over the top in customer service/satisfaction. We moved out for 4 days and he even sent me pics throughout the process. After working with a bad kitchen contractor for the past 5 months, it was a welcome change to work with a company that cared and did quality work. I found them to be competitively priced having had 3 quotes.

Beautifully! A very professional, efficient, and pleasant team got to work and produced amazing results in a remarkably short time. There was minimal dust and disruption during the work and very good clean-up. One minor repair that needed to be redone was promptly and cheerfully taken care of and is now invisible. And it all took less time that originally estimated. Very good clean up, too. Worth every cent!

Our experience with Kapalua Floors could not have been better. From the original call to schedule a quote to the finished project and final payment, Kapalua Floors was professional and true to their word in everything they said and promised. Joe helped us pick the polyurethane product that would be best with our two large dogs. We chose the water based commercial grade Bona Traffic with a satin finish. It looks great, and I have high expectations that it will hold up well. We didn't really think their "dustless" system would be dustless, as we've had our floors refinished before, but it was! So little mess, it was such a pleasant surprise. Evan took care of our floors and was wonderful to work with. He was professional, friendly, and did an excellent job. He helped us pick out the best color for our home, by giving us a visual on the floor of the colors we thought we might like. Our final color was custom, 3 parts jacobean to 1 part black, with a satin finish. We love it! We would give Kapalua Floors the highest rating available and recommend them to any and all who have a hardwood floor project.

On time, on expectation and with good attention to the details

The folks at Kapalua did a great job. We are very happy with the results - a big improvement over the previous finish. We had them refinish the floors in 5 rooms in our house. From start to finish, it took them around 4 days. The sanding was completed the first day, and then subsequent coats the rest of the time. We were a little nervous before they came, as we were planning on going on vacation while they were doing the work, and hence, we couldn't monitor the progress. However, we came back from our vacation to beautiful new floors.
