on one of the coldest saturday's this winter we discovered that our furnace had died some days earlier and we were on the brink of bursting pipes it was so cold in our house. McQuade came out, diagnosed that our problem and replaced our furnace the same day. they did not even get our phone call until 2pm on a Saturday afternoon, their technician made it to our house by 6pm, and we had a new furnace installed by 11pm (which included them getting together a crew to install our new furnace and them going to get it from their warehouse). Our house had heat going again by midnight. I could not be happier with the service I have received from McQuade's. They worked with me on financing and followed through with me afterwards. I would definitely recommend McQuade's to anyone.

The Gentleman that came to my home for the estimate said he recommended and new furnace, but he thought he could make mine work with central air. He sold me on this company because he said "i'm not a salesman, I'm the guy who will put this in from start to finish." Never saw him again, 2 other gentleman came and when they inspected my furnace they said there was no way it could be make to work with an A/C unit. I think they could tell I was very frusterated, as were they because a half day job became a whole day job plus another day. They were great, they got a furnace to my house that day, the hooked up the central air unit and came back another day to finish the furnace. Also very accomodating as I needed to go to work. Less than 90 days after the purchase the a/c and the furnace unit malfunctioned and Trane covered the parts and repair. The install guys Mike and Tony get an A+ for great customer service. The repair guy, I can't even remember his name, gave me the stupid woman treatment and I had to have my husband come home to talk to him, when I am the one who took care of the project from start to finish. He could use some manners and customer service training and I did communicate this to Vicki. Overall I was please with McQuade and Trane

We had some work done in our home and because of that, the furnace was really dirty. McQuade's technician vacuumed, cleaned and lubricated everything so our furnace worked at peak efficiency. He also preformed similar maintenance on our air conditioning unit and added coolant at no additional charge. I know where to go for all my heating and cooling issues.

I purchased a big deal for an air conditioner tune up. We scheduled the appointment, I took the morning off work and due to a clerical error the technician didn't show up. Needless to say I was very unhappy. McQuade did work with me to schedule a second service call, without me having to take off work again. Kirk was my technician. He was right on time, professional and knowledgeable. The maintenance was performed in about an hour and everything went well. A company shouldn't always be judged when things don't go well the first time around. How they respond when mistakes happen is important too. McQuade made it all right in the end and for that I definitely plan on using them again.

Dear Valued Customer, It indicates in our records that your initial service request was posted after normal business hours on June 30th which was a Monday evening. We received your request upon opening on Tuesday morning and responded by sending a scheduled appointment confirmation to you via Angie’s List messaging center on Wednesday. According to the “Big Deal” guidelines set forth by Angie’s List McQuade happily responded within the requested 2 day period. Additionally, we do not have a phone number with which to reach you so it was virtually impossible to expedite our communications.

He set the thermostat up and checked the furnace (cleaned igniter/flame detector; cleaned the external grill cover; checked the air cleaner (he did not think it worked). He lowered the thermostat and checked the AC unit outside (temperature of AC line was OK; attached pressure gauge and said it was a little high, but is done to protect against freezing; used water hose to clean the outside grill). Also, said it was strange that 2 pressure Lines were being used – he felt that when combined to the single line, it was still too narrow a pipe. During the check of both units above, he seemed a little hesitant to explain the “what” and “why” of what he was doing. At my request, he measured the air cleaner cabinet. He could not get an estimate over the phone since the person he called was not available, but he or another man would call me in 1-2 days with the estimate. He had shown me a 24V “Trane Clean Effects Air Filtration System” in his literature. I followed –up at least twice, but never received a callback with an estimate. So, I went with another company.

The service went very well. They checked the AC unit. One technician came out for the job. He was very quick and thorough. He had some nice recommendations and gave us the option to even take care of the unit ourselves. I was very happy with the service. I had no problem contacting the company or scheduling the service. They did get pretty booked up after the deal offer, however.

Dear Valued Customer, Per our communications prior to scheduling your appointment we wanted to confirm that your equipment was operational before arriving so as to avoid any misunderstandings. Just for clarification, it does state on “The Big Deal” criteria that the unit must be in working order for McQuade to perform a tune-up and cleaning – we wanted you to be aware that if the equipment were not operating properly that we would be happy to diagnose the problem (diagnosis is $89.95) and to provide immediate repairs if necessary. We understand that in the excitement of receiving “Big Deal” offers the specific criteria of said offers is sometimes overlooked. We apologize if you were offended by these communications and hope that you will consider McQuade for your Heating, Cooling and Plumbing needs in the future.

The technician took apart my furance and said it was part of the inspection job, mind you, I only wanted my AC inspected, but he insisted this was part of it, he then told me that the blower mount was broken, it was not broken before as far as I know, I had no problems with the blower at all. No noise no issues. Once he put the components back together I now have a vibration and a rattle that was not there before, he spent more time drilling a hole inside the side of my furnace to tell me that there was a crack in the unit and that it was unsafe. I have never see this before peformed and I had many inspections prior. He then told me I should invest $2500 in a new furance this one was on its way out. He left and when I turned on the AC I noticed a rattle and vibration that I could feel on the floor. I called back to have them come to fix whatever he did, and made the appt the following week for 10 am. I waited until 12pm noon. and had another commitment, I never heard from them and they never showed as far as I know. 2 hours late, you would expect a phone call. I will be taking them to court if this furnance dies, they did something I did not ask for, and now its worse and yes I will probably have to spend money replacing a perfectly good furnace because of damage they did when he tore it down. Very disgusted, I read other comments and saw someone also had a similar experience. They are looking to make business by going into things you didnt ask for.

Dear Valued Customer, McQuade Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Refrigeration has been a family owned, Christian based business since 1970 and continues to maintain its fine reputation by adhering to the fundamental values that it was founded on and that is... honesty, respect, and integrity. We understand it is sometimes difficult for our customers to hear that they have an existing problem with their HVAC equipment as with your cracked heat exchanger and noisy blower motor. McQuade stands behind its technician’s capabilities and procedures and is proud that our experienced technician took the time and initiative to closely examine your furnace exposing this hazard. The furnace you currently have is a 1981 Bryant and is known to have safety issues with its heat exchangers which, incidentally, is no fault of The McQuade Company. Cracks like this in a heat exchanger can create carbon monoxide gas which is a deadly, colorless, and odorless gas. What you need to understand is that, potentially, our technician could have saved your life. Whether our company replaces this HVAC equipment or not we urge you to take appropriate safety measures by replacing your equipment before this crack in your heat exchanger poses a threat to you and your family. In reference to McQuade’s followup regarding the vibration you reported, our technician returned to your home that same day but you did not answer the door. To date, our dispatch department has tried numerous times to message you through Angie’s List in an attempt to get your phone number and reschedule but have still received no response.

The technician showed up in a timely manner. Very professional. Entered our home and inspected the motors and funaces. Replaced our filters. We went outide to inspect the ac units. Took them apart to inspect the wiring, clean the housing etc. A lot of debris was causing the unots to run harder than they should. The technician recomended a cleaning with chemicals and water. He gave a me a qoute, sounded reasonable, I guess, and had the units cleaned. He said the frion level was fine but noticed a switch that looked bad and mentioned eventually it will go out, could be in a year or twoor a few weeks, I had him replace it. Again, very profession, I believe fair pricing but I do not have a baseline to guage. I would use them again.

We bought a Rinnai tankless water heater from McQuade. At the time, we were told that it would need maintenance every year or two (since we are on city water, probably every two years is what we were told). Within 10 months we were having "code 11" faults - causing the unit to shut down. We had McQuade come out. The service tech said that it was happening because it needed the "yearly maintenance". He did some things to the unit and then sent us a "maintenance" invoice for $129.00. We thought that this service should be covered under the year warranty because we had only had the unit for 10 months. McQuade would not agree to pick up the invoice. I contacted Rinnai directly and they said that the service that was done was not covered under warranty because no parts were replaced. Rinnai did eventually, albeit reluctantly, agree to pay the invoice. In brief: 1. Our unit was failing with a "code 11" signal which means that there is an ignitor problem. 2. A code 11 fault is NOT an indication that maintenance is needed - we were told by Rinnai that the unit should not shut down when maintenance is needed. 3. McQuade charged us for "yearly maintenance" but did not even perform the yearly maintenance as per the manual (which I had to get from Rinnai because McQuade did not give us one). 4. As far as we know, McQuade did also not address the code 11 problem directly either 5. Incidentally, one of the adjustments the tech made was "adjust gas pressure" which most likely took care of the problem Considering the amount of money we spent on the tankless system, McQuade's response to the failing unit was unacceptable.
Description of Work: Our new Rinnai water heater had had several "code 11" faults causing the unit to shut down so we had McQuade out to fix it.

Dear Valued Customer, In response to your Angie’s List review we would like to offer a kind rebuttal so that other customers reading your comments understand the facts. Per your comments, you stated that when our technician came out in November of 2013 that we did “some things” – what we did more specifically was a diagnosis in response to your equipment’s “Code 11” which included assessing the status of the igniter and burners per manufacturer instructions (Please see page 37 of your manufacturer supplied manual). Our technician then performed manufacturer outlined maintenance operations necessary to ensure the proper operation of said equipment that included; adjusting gas pressures, checking the inlet pressure, cleaning the flame sensor and igniter and blow out burners while removing the burner assembly and sensor to clean them (Please see pages 39 through 41 of your manufacturer supplied manual for required cleaning criteria). Additionally, in our professional opinion, the current condition of the heat exchanger did not, at that time, warrant a “vinegar flush” so one was not performed. In light of these maintenance services not being covered by your Rinnai hot water system warranty McQuade charged you minimally for 2 plus hours of labor at $129.00. The Rinnai brand has always been and continues to be a reputable name in Water Heating Systems. Rest assured you have purchased a quality piece of equipment that need only be regularly maintained. Should you have any additional questions regarding your Rinnai system warranty don’t hesitate to contact the manufacturer and, of course, should the time arise that you again require yearly maintenance operations, you can count on McQuade. Please be aware that our records show that as your equipment was installed in November of 2012 that, like all HVAC equipment, your Rinnai warranty requires that your system be regularly maintained to keep it working optimally. We are disappointed that our resolve during this service call was not to your satisfaction. When our technician left your location he indicated on your equipment documentation that “all equipment was operating normally”. Considering that this equipment was not operational when McQuade arrived at your home we feel we have offered you professional services for a nominal fee. We wish that if your only complaint is that you were billed for maintenance operations that fixed your Code 11 non-functioning equipment that we would have had an opportunity to speak with you prior to your posting this unsatisfactory review that dismisses the prompt, courteous, and professional service that you received. We hope that you will reconsider your position and continue to do business with McQuade… your satisfaction is always our top priority!

[member name removed], We do apologize that you feel your experience with McQuade’s dispatching department was unsatisfactory. Our records indicate that before our dispatcher had an opportunity to contact you that you kindly called in to confirm your appointment at which point our company made you aware of the delay we were experiencing. In this industry, an unexpected delay can sometimes occur if there is a repair and the amount of time a repair requires can vary. In the instance that there is a delay our dispatcher will notify the customer any time between 8 and noon or between noon and 4 (which ever applies). In this instance, you kindly contacted us to confirm your appointment and we, in turn, notified you of the delay and assured you that your technician would be available shortly. When unavoidable delays like this occur we are always grateful for our customers flexibility and understanding. The inconvenience to you that this delay caused has been duly noted, and we at McQuade apologize that our technician was unable to meet your very specific scheduling criteria and that you canceled your appointment. Our first priority is to make sure that all of our customers get the necessary care that they require. Had McQuade been given the opportunity to fulfill your request regarding the “Big Deal” tune-up promotion offered in your area, we feel confident that, like many of our other satisfied customers, you would have been extremely satisfied.

The work was performed on the weekend so there was a premium charged, as expected and quoted. The plumber arrived a few minutes early, and was done within an hour as estimated. The technician was professional in his approach and personable. The job was completed at the quoted price. He cleaned up so that you could not tell he had been there. When all work was complete, he ran everything to demonstrate all work was complete and working. I will schedule additional work with them during the next month.

Dear Valued Customer, We noticed that you gave us a “C” rating on Angie’s List and were concerned that the criteria for the "Big Deal" before you ordered this tune-up had not been accurately communicated through the “Big Deal” advertisement that you received via email. We contacted our Angie’s List representative and received confirmation that it does state on “The Big Deal” criteria that the unit must be in working order for McQuade to perform a tune-up. We apologize for the misunderstanding but it is imperative that any HVAC units be functioning properly for McQuade to perform maintenance operations. Of course, when a unit is not operating properly we are happy to diagnose the problem and to provide immediate repairs if necessary. Additionally, as the ratings we receive on Angie’s List are representative of the high standards and quality that McQuade expects from its sales and service team we hope that you were satisfied with our timely response and professionalism during our communications with you. In light of the above information, should you wish to reconsider and change our grade to an A or B we would most sincerely appreciate it and hope that you will consider calling McQuade in the future.

There aren't that many heating and cooling companies that have a genuine boiler specialist on staff so we were especially fortunate to have called McQuade who does. It was clear that boiler needed to be replaced and it was done the next day - the old one removed and the new one installed. It was an all day job and the crew worked steadily until it was completed. A minor plumbing problem that arose the next day, a snowy Saturday, was addressed immediately, and it was has been problem-free ever since. As predicted, our heating costs have dropped dramatically with the new unit. We are very happpy with the entire experience.

The furnace installation went well and they were very responsive. The only complaint I have is that I was promised a $100 discount on the services based on a coupon which I had presented at the time of getting my quote, then when it was time to pay, they retracted their commitment to reduce the cost by $100. Otherwise the service was good, would likely use them again but they are a bit pricey in my opinion as I asked them to quote my water heater and their price came in much higher than my plumber.

After purchasing a 1989 condo a week later I asked McQuade to do a furnace check/cleaning using an Angies List Deal for $54. The technician immediately 'Red Tagged' my furnace saying it was unsafe to operate and disabled it. Unfortunately he couldn't come back to install a new one for almost a week. Since it was in the middle of this past deep winter I was concerned about pipes freezing and made a midnight run to turn on faucets so things wouldn't freeze up. It was a stressful mess for me. I also had to argue with the salesman (the sales team is separate from the installers) about honoring my AL coupon since I got no value from the cleaning because upon inspection they said I needed a whole new furnace. He said he had to check on the matter and could not make that decision himself so I had to wait a day or two to see if they would deduct the cost of the coupon - which they finally did. He put some pressure on me to make a quick decision on my purchase or I wouldn't be able to get the price he quoted me. It felt a little off to me for them to put even more pressure on me when I was already in a bind. It didn't feel very customer friendly--I felt zero empathy. I had to quickly decide to buy - but there wasn't the same urgency to install. Fast forward to a few months later and while cleaning my water heater tray, the pilot light went out. unfamiliar with the HWH in my new home -- I couldnt get it back on so called McQuade for help. The plumber was very nice but I was charged $110 for less than five minutes of his time! And he said he gave me a deal on the pilot light! It was $90 to walk in the door--lighting the pilot was regularly $45 on top of that. Unbelievable. He quoted me how much it would be to replace it or any of the main parts and told me it was probably on its last legs but got it lit again, gave me some good advice and was on his way. They schedulers and technicians are all very helpful and nice at McQuade but the pricing and feel of the overall experience with this company feels like a money grab. For that reason I feel wary of this company. I trust their expertise but am not sure if I would call them again because my perception is that I am not a customer but a dollar sign to them. It's a shame because being more empathic to customers in need would be a better sales tool to build future loyalty.

Response from McQuade Heating & Cooling
Dear [Member Name Removed], First of all we, at McQuade Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, are disappointed that our efforts to replace your furnace were not to your satisfaction. We admit that it did take us longer than we anticipated to replace your furnace - December’s temperatures demanded that HVAC installations for the elderly and families with small children take precedence over unoccupied homes such as yours, and for this we apologize. Additionally, the technician that visited your newly purchased condo red tagged your furnace after inspecting it because it had a crack in the #4 cell of the heat exchanger. Cracks like this in a heat exchanger can create carbon monoxide gas which is a deadly, colorless, and odorless gas… we turned this furnace off for your safety. In our defense, during this winter’s coldest months, December being one of them, our technicians were in high demand and had you not made an immediate decision to replace your furnace we cannot guarantee that we would have had an acceptable installation date available for you. Our first priority is to make sure that our customers get the necessary care that they require. Most assuredly, as we hope that you will continue to do business with McQuade, we appreciate your confidence in our company and want you to know that your safety and satisfaction is always our top priority!
