 + -1 moreI highly recommend. They were professional and work was done quickly and done when promised. I worked with Rick who was patient with several setbacks that came up on my end during the job, handling each one expertly. This was the perfect option for me as I was just upgrading and not really remodeling. From the tear out to the first flush of the toilet at the end of the job, I did not have a moment when I wasn't pleased with the work done in my home, or the attitude of anyone working with Nelson Brothers. The tile expert hired by Nelson was the cherry on top of our relationship. Val is a perfectionist who thought of everything so that the tiling is actually better than I thought it could be, just beautiful. Price very reasonable.
Description of Work: Bathroom replace tub, rough in bath and shower and trim, replace vanity, counter with sink and faucets and toilet, and fire stopped to code. Tile and drywall was done by someone they recommended for a reasonable price who was excellent and I purchased all fixtures and equipment prior to the beginning of job.

 + -1 moreThe plumber, "Dave" was friendly and on time. He put on booties over his shoes and listened to my concerns. I was having trouble turning the shutoff valves to the fixtures, so I wanted to replace them with 1/4 turn shutoff valves. He made a suggestion about replacing the plastic supply lines with braided metal. I agreed with that recommendation for both practical and appearance reasons. He did not have the type of shutoff valves in stock on his truck. He ended up having to go to three different suppliers to find the valve I wanted. When he returned, he got the job done within an hour. What I really liked was that he checked for leaks several times before he left. I get quite uncomfortably obsessed about the repair leaking after the plumber leaves. But I was feeling much better after Dave left. I felt comfortable with him, and found him to be competent and knowledgeable. I reflexively rated the price as a B only because I feel 94.00 for a half hour to be slightly high. But I always have to then remember that you get what you pay for, and I feel the price was worth the work that had been done. Plus, it was done by a seasoned professional, and if you want to keep good talent, you have to pay them fairly. Overall, I will continue to use Nelson Brothers. So far they have always stood behind their work, and have performed it well.
Description of Work: The plumber replaced a cold water cartridge in one bathroom sink, and replaced the 4 shutoff valves and 4 supply lines to the pair of sinks in our upstairs bathroom.

 + 0 moreRick did a walk through to review all problem areas and gave estimate that was very close to price quote. Worked quickly both inside and outside the home in the 90 degree plus heat. Job was well done. Only area of improvement would be with the initial phone call to schedule the appointment. It was very noisy and difficult to hear with all the background noise when I called.
Description of Work: Replaced broken water pipe and new out side faucet, dripping delta faucet in shower and laundry tub, repaired slow filling toilet and broken sump pump discharge pipe.

 + 0 moreThey came out as scheduled. The service man was clean and professional. He located the clean outs and proceeded to walk me through every inch of the pipe. Needless to say, he said the integrity of the pipe looked just fine to him. He then gave us a flash drive with the video of our pipes and provided us with some tips to help prevent backups. Couldn't have been more pleased!
Description of Work: Thornton and Grooms came out and quoted us over $6000 to replace our drain pipe that leads to the main. Anyway, they said they recommend it quickly because they could not be certain when the pipe would total fail. Well, we got a second opinion and called Nelson Bros. They quoted us $200 to run a camera down the drain. So that's what we signed up to do.

 + -1 moreFirst visit, the plumber measured and then went out to check the turnoff at the meter. Reported it broken. Couldn't tell if the plumber broke it or if it was already broken - they lost my trust at this point. When they returned to complete the job, the same guy came back that had lost my confidence, even when I requested he never works on my job. He and his partner then worked to complete the job and found that the prior measurements were not how THEY would install the pipe, so all had to be re-worked...more time/ $$ to me. They also found that I needed to have the external duct connected/ updated before the installation could be safely completed, more time/ $$. The company, recognizing the situation, as this re-work happened on a Saturday, that they didn't charge me Saturday rates...

 + 0 moreSo far the pump continues to perform well. I am quite obsessive about these things, and feel the service was excellent.
Description of Work: During a very rainy couple of weeks, our basement sump pump burned out at 10:30 PM. Everyone we called either did not answer or were involved in emergencies or other calls. Nelson Bros indicated they were unable to help us at that time, but to call in the morning to schedule someone to come out. When we did (after being up all night bailing our sump pump well), they told us that we could not be accommodated until later that afternoon or evening. We told them that we were expecting to be serviced in the morning but they were busier than usual due to the flooding rains. After we hung up and tried to find another company, Nelson called back and said they would have someone out within 30 minutes. James showed up in 30 minutes and took control of the situation. I had already bought a pump, and James offered me a choice of a better model, but gave me the pros and cons of each. He was upbeat, worked quickly and efficiently. He cleaned the area and did a professional job. Nelson Bros is my plumber from now on.

 + -1 morewent well. They require a 1 hour minimum charge and they charge extra for saturdays because of time and a half. They plumber put on disposable booties near the threshold. Fixed the problem in half an hour, but you have to pay for a whole hour. To avoid charging customers time and a half on saturdays they could stagger the workforce working days. For instance choose the slowest workday mon-friday and have the lowest plumbers on the totem pole not come in that day and instead have them come in Saturday to keep them within 40 hrs. I want free estimates!! over the phone estimates don't count.
Description of Work: stop toilet running every 6 to 8 minutes.

 + -1 moreOn 3-26-11, 4-7-11, 6-2-11 and 8-7-12 the same plumber repaired faucet leaks in the wash basin in the bathroom. After his second visit I asked the company to send out a different plumber to correct the problem. My request was ignored and they sent the same plumber out again. On his last visit, 8-7-12, the bill he left really angered me because it stated and quot;old fixtures/galv pipesand quot; with No Warranty. He didn't even tell me that information to my face! If the fixtures are too old to be repaired, the company should advise the customer instead of making multiple repair visits costing the customer hundreds of dollars. I would also like to correct something else. The original estimate on 4-7-11 to re-pipe the basement was $2400. On 8-7-12 I asked for, and did not receive, a new estimate to re-pipe the basement since I had some new ideas to discuss.
Description of Work: My complaint was about the repairs to my wash basin in the bathroom, not the toilet.

 + 0 moreI had previously called Mr Rooter. The service tech explained that the clogged kitchen sink drain could not be cleared with the power auger, but would require high pressure water. He said likely to be very messy and would cost $600. Better alternative was to use a unit from the roof (via stack pipe). which would cost $1,300. Final alternative would be to tear up the floor or remove section from back of the house at a cost in excess of $3,000. I was told the Home Owners insurance company would pay for it. We then called Nelson Bros on the advice of a friend who has used their services for a number of years. The job was competed in less than an hour (using the power auger) for a total cost of $165.00.

 + -1 moreAfter having a horrible experience the same day with another company, I called Nelson plumbing and was able to have someone come out the same day. I was given an estimated time and the plumber arrived promptly. He was very polite and listened to my concern. Although I had told him where I had been told the problem existed, he took it upon himself to look at all connections of pipes. Iwas very impressed that he took the time to look through all possible options. He was prompt, polite and very efficient. He explained the problem, showed me what he would do, completed the work and was done within the hour. Although I had to call back to have a cap closed that was forgotten about, I was very pleased. I will definitely consider Nelson Plumbing for future jobs.
Description of Work: Although I called to clear out a line outside my house (where I was told by another company was where the problem was), Nelson Plumbing came and looked through all the pipes and discover the backup actually originated in my kitchen stack which he cleaned out.

 + 0 moreOverall great experience. Jessie was skilled, knowledgeable, and shared exactly what he was doing. When he was done, he cleaned up the little bit of spillage on the floor, packed up all his sutff and collected his check. The total cost was $$470 (including $20 because I am outside their normal service area.) From my perspective, the price was just a little high, (I am a tight wad!) but totally reasonable for what is charged in the area. On the other hand, $470 for Nelson's honest service, versus $2,900 that could have been wasted digging up my front yard = PRICELESS! I am fairly certain I will not have a sewer backup for a few years, and will be sure to call Nelson Brothers again at the first sign of problems, or for any other plumbing issue I can't tackle myself.
Description of Work: I had basement sewer backups 3 times during the past 6 months. Used another company in late November, and, after they had to make a return call a week later, they ran a camera and declared that we had a "root and calcium buildup" about 20 feet from the house. They told us the only solution was to dig up the yard and replace the section of pipe. Their estimate for the pipe repair was $2,900. They had already clipped me $135 for the first cleanout. The second was "free", but they charged me $125 to run the camera. Since I had just had the sewer cleaned and did not have an emergency situation, I consulted a buddy who has managed industrial buildings. He said that for over 30 years he always used Nelson Brothers, and they always did a great job. That was enough for me! I called and talked to "Dave" at Nelson Brothers. He suggested that they could run an "expandable cutter", that would fit through our 4" pipe opening in the house, and expand to clean the 6" pipe that runs from the house to city sewer. The next day, "Jessie" arrived late in the afternoon. He was polite, courteous and professional. He explained that he would run his camera first, document the pipe, and make sure there were no breaks or shifted pipe that would cause problems. Then he would run the expandable cutter. After that he would run the camera again to check the results. He even pointed out to me that he was opening a brand new memory stick to record the video on, which I would get to keep. The whole process stoook about an hour. When Jessie was done, I could see that the pipe was almost completely clean.

 + -1 moreNelson Brothers squeezed us in on the same day, which I really appreciated. Scotty was our service tech for a broken valve handle in the basement, which had been dripping for three days like Chinese water torture. He arrived after we got the and quot;he's on his way in 20 minutesand quot; call from the company and had a smile and majorly friendly attitude. I loved how nice he was, and he was not agitated even though my dog was barking at him, which some service folks can be that way. He got right to the repair, not taking any longer than he needed to, and was able to do the repair in the half-hour that was included in the service call, which was nice. He also showed me the actual plastic knob for the handle and showed me where it was broken, saying he had called it in to get a replacement, which he also did promptly (yes, we paid for the replacement). The only thing I would've changed is to see an estimate before-hand, but I was going to pay it anyway, no matter what it was going to cost. The service call was $92 or so and the parts were another $70, so we certainly could've saved money by doing it DIY, but I'm 9 months pregnant and I wanted it taken care of today before the holidays kicked off and they really did a stellar job. They are our plumbers for all calls going forward!

 + -1 moreA pipe had sprung a leak so we had out a furnace company to fix it. More leaks happened and the costs were getting really excessive. We had previously used Nelson Bros for our plumbing upgrade, the installation of water heaters and a few other things so we called them to see if our current problems were something they could help with. Rick was out the next day and luckily for us they could do the work and the cost was fair. Jesse and Kevin were out the following Wed and Jesse made some suggestions that really have made and quot;tendingand quot; the furnace much easier. They were even able to dispose of an ancient incinerator for us. A small leak had developed in one of the new parts, Nelson was there the same day we called and replaced it. It has been great ever since. Jesse has done most of the work we've had them out for and you couldn't find a more considerate person. He is very tall and we are very short. He takes into consideration how we would have to get to things like the water feed on the furnace and makes sure we stuff is placed where we can reach them. You have NO idea how much I appreciate that!
Description of Work: We have a 1929 house with a steam boiler. Nelson Bros replaced the boiler stem lines between unions on return side with new auto vents; re-worked boiler fill from existing gote valvue into boiler feed lines with new 9-D Back flow preventer. And removed an ancient incinerator, cementing the chimney.

A few projects we asked him to do, he advised us we were better off waiting to do until we renovate our bathroom.
