Removed two 25-year old LiftMaster garage door openers and replaced with new models. Rebuilt the operating mechanisms on two garage doors--drums, rollers, cables, end bearings. Added struts to both doors. The technician, James Kershner, explained everything to me, completed the work in a few hours, cleaned up all debris from the project, and explained how to operate and maintain the new openers. I was extremely satisfied with the entire process, from his arrival to his departure.

Updating this review to a more positive one. My wife left the initial review after discussing the work they provided. We had just moved and the garage doors were fine, so there wasn't much to be done. She must have misunderstood when I said "they didn't do much". The price did seem a bit high because there wan't really anything to be done other than lubing the springs, which I would have done onyway. Perhaps different rates should have been given based on the condition of the doors.

Dear [member name removed]: Thank you for your review of our services. I reviewed your 27 point safety inspection on your door and operator and found that my technician reported that all points passed and your system seems to be in good working order. I am sorry that the garage door monitors are not working. Please call me at 313-387-0350 and I will gladly replace them at no charge. Sincerely, Paula Customer Relations Manager.

Scheduling was very good. They were knowledgeable and used the opportunity to try to make me buy more product. It turned out fine except they tried to sell me other things, which made me uncomfortable.
Description of Work: They provided a normal maintenance check up on our garage door. They lubricated the door. They also left behind a sensor they installed on the door. The sensor has been holding up well.

The garage door has been working better since. They said the garage door was too old to replace the rollers or do the other work aside from replacing the cables. Scheduling was fine and they came out promptly. He was knowledgeable. I just felt that the Big Deal was misleading as they couldn't do any of the other work and didn't offer a price discount due to this.

I feel it was waste of my money.
Description of Work: Not enough. I had a remote for the garage that used to work, but technician was unable to have it function. He stated we should buy a universal remote. I also wanted my garage door pounded out, due to a slight dent, but technician stated I would need a new door. I was not prepared for that answer. He did lubricate the track and left a device that would let me know if I ever left my garage door open at night, but I would never use it.

[member name removed] - thank you for your comments about your garage door service. I have read over the safety checklist and all of the documentation about your garage door. I am in hopes that the remote that Jeff provided is working great for you. As far as the dents in your door - per the International Door Association standards - we do not pound out dents in doors. This will compromise the structural integrity of your door. My technician also noted that the bottom two panels are split on your door. Unfortunately, the manufacture of your door (Stanley) is no longer in business therefore replacement panels are not available. I do apologize that the service was not what you expected.

I contacted this company to do some minor repairs on my garage door, I.E., hinge replacement, panel straightened out, because the other company I had at my home earlier for a tune-up was booked the following day, so I had precision garage door to come out. I had informed the Tech I had just had the door tuned up & that we had a accidental bump on the door. This man didn't come here to fix minor repairs, he came to sell me a $1500 garage door. The other company I had at my home for the $99 tune-up, replaced rollers, hinges, adjusted & oiled springs, and straighten one of my panels. He also did extra work he didn't charge me for. Granted the door is an older door, but it still works fine. If it ain't broke, why fix it!!!! Use another company this one is money driven, not customer service driven!!!!

It turned out fine. They came out and looked at it and told me what it needed and they said it wasn't going to cost anymore than what they had originally quoted me. They did the job. They were here like an hour and it worked fine. The garage door works fine than before. The price was included so many rollers and that is what they replaced. They sheared up some of the door panels that were kind of bulging and it works fine though. The price seemed reasonable to me. I didn't research anywhere else so I really don't know what it would cost to me where else. It wasn't like something outrageous that I didn't want to pay. They got right back to me right away and made a timely appointment that was convenient for me and them. He was very professional. He made sure he walk me out there and explained to me everything he was going to do and then he came and got me when it was done and we walked out and he showed me what he did and showed me that it was working properly and asked me if everything was okay and if I was satisfied before I left. I would use them again in the future.

Dear [Member Name Removed]: Thank you for your feedback. We utilize both good and bad feedback in order to reach our goal of 100% customer satisfaction. Please know that we perform a safety inspection on every appointment and give our customers recommendations based on the findings. The customer is under no obligation to have us perform the recommended repairs. Because our Technicians are certified through the International Door Association, they are required to ensure safety and make our customers aware of any potential safety hazzards. Based on the safety checklist that was performed at your home - your Sears operator is a model that was manufactured in the 1970's. These older units do not meet UL325 compliance and do not have safety eyes. If an operator does not meet this compliance, we will not repair it for safety reasons. Your operator also should be reinforced to ensure safety and we have diagnosed it to have a bad logic board. As far as your door, it has been determined that it is approximately 30 years old. Although it is properly balanced and your springs passed the inspection, the inspection showed that the rollers are severely worn and all of the other hardware with the exception of springs appears to be the original hardware from the 1970's. We do realize that customers may not elect to follow our recommendations. However, we are confident that our recommendations would repair your garage door long term so that you would never have to worry about it again. Again, thanks for your feedback. Sincerely, Paula Customer Relations Manager 313-387-0350

Steve, the technician was prompt and courteous. The service truck was well identified with a beautiful paint job. I am not saying the inspection wasn't "correct" - but right away I was informed of needed repairs from $413 to $759, which I was not prepared to make at this time. Since the door has been working fine, I just wanted the tune-up.

[member name removed]: Thank you for your feedback. We do utilize all feedback to improve on our processes. In reviewing the safety checklist that was done on your door and discussing the appointment with the technician - your have a one spring system on a very heavy door. Currently, the door is not balanced. An improperly balanced door could cause strain on the operator. Of course, at the time of the appointment, you are absolutely under no obligation to have the recommended repairs performed. However, in the future - should you have any issues or problems with your garage door - please do not hesitate to contact us. Sincerely, Paula

Scheduling was a bit of an inconvenience as we provided a cell phone when signing up online and received a message on our home phone on a Friday which we didn't get until Friday just before 7pm. I called anyway, and after a terrible call hold system of hold - message - music - hold - message - click - hold again -- I finally asked for the individual who left the message. I was then again put on hold while they searched for her. They said she was gone for the day could they take a message. I explained I was calling to schedule the Angie's service big deal and was told I could only be helped by the lady who was gone for the day. So, I left a message to have her call me and was told she would be in the next day (Saturday morning) and they would have her call me first thing in the morning, defined as 9am-ish. I waited until 10:30am Saturday morning and didn't hear anything so I called and went through the same hold - message - music - hold - message - click - hold system and again stated my story. FORTUNATELY, Betty (I believe) said she would be happy to help as the other lady wasn't in today and she scheduled us for the next day (Sunday!) and we were thrilled. Later that afternoon, the first lady left another message (we were out) on our home phone, asking us to call back on her cell because she was working at home and wanted to help us schedule the service for us. Obviously she didn't communicate with the office to find out Betty had already taken care of us. Well ahead of our 1pm appointment, at 11ish we received a call from the service individual saying if it was fine he could be at our home in 30 minutes. He arrived on time, inspected and advised and completed the work and cleaned up beautifully. Service individual was great -- it was a bit of a hassle getting the customer call center people on the same page and I wasted 15 minutes on hold and them trying to find someone to help me, an Angie's List deal customer, each time I had to call them back. All is well -- we are glad this work was completed and are enjoying our garage opener sensor!
Description of Work: Requested Big Deal - inspect garage door, level, oil, service, as needed. They inspected garage and found springs and rollers worn and recommended replacing soon. Since he was there, we authorized him to replace the springs and rollers which wasn't a surprise to us, but with these deals assume the provider is offering them to get bigger business when they visit.

The guy who came basically didn’t do a thing. He was here 20 minutes at the most. He told me my door didn’t need balancing and said I needed a new door. I knew that was incorrect, but I didn’t argue. I said I didn’t want to buy a new door and his attitude changed instantly. They tried to upsell for a new garage door. It seemed like a bait and switch. I would never use them again because they weren’t there to help me. I feel that if I had called another company those services would have been free. I DO NOT want any phone calls or any form of communication from this company!

Dear [removed members name]: Thank you for your feedback - although stinging - we do utilize feedback from our customers to improve our processes. After talking with your technician, he has informed me that the springs that are on your door are heavy duty springs that are typically used on a heavier wood door. Because of this - there is too much tension on the springs and the door "launches" off the ground. Although the springs are approximately 6 months old - your door is not properly balanced. The long term effect of an improperly balanced door could result in damage to the operator. I am also told that all of the rollers on the door (with the exception of 2) are original rollers. Our technicians are certified by the International Door Association and are required to adhere to the guidelines in place by the Association. The guidelines and our policies dictate that we advise our customers to perform repairs that will keep the door safe and in working order for a very long time. I understand that also, one of your doors has two bottom panels that are bent. This door is made by Stanley. The Stanley Door Company went out of business in 2001 - therefore, replacement panels are not available for this door. I am sorry that we were not able to provide you with recommendations that were acceptable to you. Thank you for your feedback. Sincerely, Paula O'Brien

It went fine. The person that came out was very knowledgeable but started to pick apart every thing that was wrong with the current door, he ended up with a list of replacing the current opener (it works fine but is no longer in compliance with safety regulations. It does not need to be replaced (it is grandfathered in) to be put in compliance. Also need another remote, the boot at the bottom of the door needs to be replaced, some of the rollers probably should be replaced, etc. etc. By the time it was over - I had a quote for an entire new garage door and opener that could be accessed with a smart phone to open remotely if necessary. Take it for what it is. The $120 value to start with is just for a basic service call to check lubrication and provide a garage door monitor. You are really getting a sales call that you are paying for with a couple of small benefits added in. Better to have someone come out and do a quote for a new door and buy the monitor yourself. They did not install the monitor - which is pretty simple because of how "potentially dangerous" the current door is. Don't get me wrong - it is a very reputable company and the service person sent out knew everything there is to know about a garage door and opener. He did not pressure me to make a decision on the spot to buy the new door package. I am still considering it, but I was disappointed in what I got for the $60 I paid - which was 50% off the "normal price"
Description of Work: Was basically a sales call. Minimal work done in the "package" for balancing the garage door. I paid for a sales call where they ended up quoting a $2,200 garage door replacement as I just let them keep adding to what needed to be done. I did get a garage door monitor out of it.
