They were professional from beginning to end. They worked with us when we had trouble with getting a loan to pay for their services. They were on time every day and kept us informed of the situation. They did everything that we needed and were really a great group of guys. They went above and beyond what we had expected and would highly reccommend them to anyone that needs any help with plumbing.
Description of Work: We had a cracked and broken sewer line from the house into the road. They removed our wheelchair ramp, dug up the front yard and removed the broken pipes and replaced them with new. The next day they dug up the road and replaced the city part of the sewer that the city refused to fix. They filled it all back in and reinstalled the ramp and cleaned up the yard. in a few weeks they will return to fill in the road and sidewalk with cement.

Originally I had a drip coming from a faucet in my master bath along with a slow drain. I also had a shower that didn't work in the second bathroom (water trickled out). The plumber came out and did an "electric drain cleaning" in the problem sink which corrected the problem. He then fixed the leaky faucet by replacing some parts. He then went to fix the shower in the second bathroom and when he tried to turn off the water using the shut off we discovered the shut off was broken. So this opened up a new problem. He replaced the shutoff valve, removed some PVC pipe and replaced it all with copper. After the shut off valve was fixed he corrected the shower problem by replacing some part. The plumber was very professional and tried his best to move quickly to minimize cost for me (which I really appreciated). The work itself was outstanding and it (the new piping) looks better now than it ever did. Please note that this job was broken down into two separate days for various reasons. Total, he was working for approx. five hours. I really like the work he did and I have no problem recommending Horton to any friend or family member!
Description of Work: I had the plumber come out for a list of problems. I had a slow running drain, leaky faucet, a shower that didn't run, and a broken shut off valve for my water.

Relit (no charge) a hot water heater that they installed 1.5 years ago. I'm usually pretty competent at that but had trouble with the igniter (operator error). They advised that it really shouldn't have gone out and to let them know if it happens again and they will return under warranty to fix it. Installed an owner provided garbage disposal. They were quick, professional and instructed us on the disposal features even though they hadn't supplied the disposal. I've used them in the past and they have always done what they said they would do when they said they would do it and for the amount that they had quoted. I've not had any 'surprises' with them.

Since his visit, my water heater has not overflowed, but we are still having problems with having hot water in the morning. The water gets plenty hot after I take a shower or after running the dishwasher, etc. This led me to do more research online. I now believe that the problem is that the thermocouple on my water heater needs to be replaced. I am happy that he replaced the relief valve, but the overall problem with my water heater was not resolved. I feel that he should have mentioned the thermocouple as a possible problem when he was out given the fact that I explained my water temperature issues in full upon his visit. I am now looking at having to spend another $75 on a service call to replace what I think is the real problem.
Description of Work: I called Horton Plumbing out because my water heater had overflowed. I mentioned to the plumber that the water had been luke warm in the morning and that I turned the temperature up because of this (still within the normal range of temps on my water heater). He replaced the temperature/pressure relief valve which had calcium-like deposits built up on it and made it very stiff. He also drained the water heater, explaining that the reason for the low temps might be a result of sludge building up on the bottom of the water heater making it harder to heat the water to the appropriate temp. The charge was $75 for him to come out, this covers the first hour of service. The water heater took a while to drain so we were charged overall for 1.5 hours ($112.50) Therefore the replacement valve plus tax was roughly $36. He did encourage me to purchase a new water heater (fully installed for around $750) and I declined.

Made installation appointment on Monday 11-02-09 for 8am Thursday 11-05-09 to have gas dryer supply line and washing machine mixing valve/single lever shutoff valve installed. Crew was very punctual showed up on time. Did not have the washing machine shut off valve with them, said they'd have to order one and reschedule for it. Strike one. Advised the two man crew that one of them could run over to Home Depot and purchase one as I know they sell them. Was told "we only order our supplies from a local wholesaler." Well then, why didn't you? Strike two. The crew leader repeatedly questioned why I wanted the washing machine shutoff valve. Hello?? My laundry room is on the second floor of my newly purchased condo. The individual water shut off valves are nearly impossible to reach behind the washer once installed. I wanted the shutoff valve (the one they did not show up with) installed higher up on the wall so it would be easy to reach and I can shut off the water each time I finish using the machine to avoid a ruptured supply hose and the resulting flood damage it would create. Even the office manager questioned why I would want such a thing installed. She said "we just don't get many requests for those." Well, sorry. I can't speak for other people's choices. I just know I wanted one installed. Once the gas supply line was installed - a flexible line nearly identical to the flexible line one would normally attach to their gas dryer from a black pipe gas supply line, the water heater pilot light would not stay lit so they replaced the thermo coupler - a not uncommon event. This part went fine. When the job was complete (minus the shutoff valve), the crew leader advised me of my options for them to order and install the washer shutoff valve. I didn't care for their options nor the price and advised them I'd figure out something else. I paid them and they left. Later in the afternoon, when Lowe's showed up to deliver my new washer and dryer, they would not install the dryer - they insisted the gas line installation was not up to code. I once again called the office manager at Horton and advised her of the situation. She checked with one of their master plumbers who assured her it was code. A phone call by me to the Canton building inspection department confirmed that the installation of flexible line as opposed to what I consider normal - black pipe - did indeed meet code. So, I connected my new dryer myself. Last problem was that Horton terminated the flexible supply line at a right angle to the wall instead of horizontally or vertically with the wall. This termination prevents my dryer from going back close enough to the wall to allow the laundry room door to close. Strike three. I will research and hire another plumber to install the water shutoff valve and correct the gas supply line termination so I can close my laundry room door. I really don't care to have Horton Plumbing back in my home. Should you decide to hire them, I hope you have a better experience. I would not consider hiring them again in the future.
Description of Work: Installed relatively short gas supply line - approximately 4 feet from main gas supply to termination point for gas dryer and replaced water heater thermo coupler

They were great. We purchased a house 10 months ago and the pipes had frozen the year before and cracked. Every time we turned the outside water on, we get a basement full of water, so we had them replace sections of the pipe that was within the wall. They had it cut and put in a new line from that spot. They also installed a valve in the bathroom that was being remodeled which was anti pressure drop. We went with them because they were in the area and also because one of our neighbors mentions that they were good as they used them. I think their prices were on the higher side. It seemed to me that they had well sealed the pipe and the work was very precise and it looked good.

Our kitchen sink drain backed up on a Saturday morning. When we were unable to unstop the pipe from draining, I subscribed to Angie's List and decided on Horton Plumbing since they had favorable reports, were located a reasonable distance from us, and offered a discount through their web site. We decided to wait until Monday morning before calling for service. We called at 6:45 AM and spoke to whom we think was the owner. I was impressed that someone answered at 6:45 AM. He took down our information and said that they were working on the day's schedule and that we would be called in about a half hour. When we had not received their call after an hour, we called again and we were then told that they had a very busy day, but that our work order was in and they would be dispatching someone. Shortly after that, we received a call from those dispatched and they said they were on their way and were calling to confirm that we would be at the house. They arrived at 8:55 AM, so just two hours after our 6:45 AM phone call. Two courteous and trustworthy men did the work. We were hopeful that the job would be completed inside of an hour from the time they arrived, but our frozen drain pipe required more time. They completed the job about 10:55 AM. They were here for two hours, but charged 2.5 hours. I figured they were including some travel time, but there was also a charge of $130 for "total other." I asked about this and I was told "that is for cabling the pipe." I thought to myself "Isn't that labor?"(I am thinking now that that was the minimum price for the service call itself and that it does not include any labor). There was also a "fuel" charge of $6.00 which I understood since fuel was consumed for the hot air gun and/or for the service van. The total came to $348.50 and a $15.00 coupon was applied bringing it to $333.50. I was at their side prepared to assist however I might. Old rags/towels, a screwdriver and a utility knife were items of ours that they welcomed and which helped them be more efficient since one man was working on the main floor while a second man was working in the basement. I did not want to be in their way, but just be helpful should they ask for something. They did a pretty good job of clean-up, only leaving some dry wall dust and scraps behind on a shelving unit and the carpet. They gathered any waste they had made and took it with them after completing the job.
Description of Work: They cleared a frozen drain line from our kitchen sink using a combination of heat(hot air gun)and a cable auger. They then ran hot water through the pipe for some time after breaking through. The drain pipe was in a tricky place to reach so they had to cut through a cabinet board beneath the sink and through a finished wall and ceiling in a basement bedroom, but they explained that the board and wall would need to be cut through before doing it. It would have been nice to know beforehand that the ceiling was going to be cut into as well.
