I recently used Horton to clean out a root clogged sewer line in my house. They were responsive and came in the time frame that they said they would and completed the work. The reason for the C review is because they quoted me 160 dollars for the root clean out on the phone however when the tech arrived he cleaned the roots out and then tried to charge me 385 dollars for the work. He said it was because he had to clean out the storm drain too. I would have been happy to pay for extra service if we had discussed it before hand. I was in the house so we could have discussed. In the end the tech did give me 100 dollars off, but I would be carful if I used them again. defiantly discuses the price beforehand.

We called their office at 8am and they were here by 10 am. The sump pump was replaced quickly and they re-sealed the radon cover with no issue. The radon cover added $65 in extra labor to remove and re-install. I had only one issue with Horton. The plumbers were proceeding to replace the pump without giving me a quote for the job. I stopped them and asked about cost prior to installation so it worked out OK. But they should have discussed price before before proceeding.

I called Horton Plumbing at 7:00am and spoke to a very helpful person. He said someone would call at 7:30am and they could replace the water heater that morning. The hot water temperature from the faucets was extremely hot. The thermostat on the water heater was malfunctioning. The water heater was over 9 years old and I did not want to replace the thermostat on an old water heater. They called at 7:30 and were out at my house by 8am. The guy who came, Al, was polite and informative, he got to work and replaced the water heater and installed a ball valve in around an hour.

The parts were extremely overpriced. I told them I had priced the parts at distributors and they said they had to make a profit on the parts they sold me. The parts were $100 and they charged me $175! The job only took about 30 minutes to install. They said even though it only took 30 minutes to install, they had a set price for doing this type of job and it was 365. Hortons have always done a very through and great job so I have to give them credit for that. The workmanship is suburb, but I would suggest getting an estimate before hand, and maybe buying the parts from Home Depot or Lowes and just having them install it. I have used Hortons many times and this is my first issue with them. My friend had the same thing done at her house with another plumber, and only paid $175 total for her total bill. Why the big difference is beyond me.

Everything went well. Horton was recommended by my neighbor. I called and spoke with Alyse. One thing I watch out for when considering a company to hire is the company's "first line of contact" and in this case it was Alyse. She was pleasant, courteous, knowledgeable of the company's services and system, well-spoken and polite. My technician was Blair who also was most pleasant, courteous, polite. He corrected the problem and explained what he did in terms that a layman could understand.

sA worker came out at 10:05 am Tues. (5/20/14). He installed a new line and valve. He completed the work in just under 35 mins.and asked if tthere was anything else I had before he went out and wrote up the bill. I told him about the main toilet still running after the tank is full. He looked at it and said it was normal with Kohler toilets after awhile. He went out to his van; wrote up the bill and came back in.On this bill he tried to charge me for 1 1/4 hrs. ($135.00 Hr.) though at this point he had been IN my house for just under 45 mins. I TOLD him you did not get here until 10:05 and it was only 10:46 and this point. He TOLD me that it took time to travel from his last job to the shop and pick-up the parts for my job and come all lthe way to my house and that his time was "valuable". I told that I had never heard charging for travel time. He then changed it to 1 Hr. instead of 1 1/4. The next day (Wed. 5/21/14) I came home from work ready to do laundry that had piled up. I went down the basement and smelled gas right away. I turned on a fan and opened the windows right away. Called Hortons back and the sent the same person back out. My Husband came home when he was still at the house and said he could smell gas the right when he stepped in the door. The worker told us he could not find anything wrong and that it was probably the oil that put on the motor of new dryers. He went outside to leave and said he could smell gas outside. Consumer Energy was called and came right away. They tested in the basement at the new and old connections. FOUND the NEW valve was leaking and a elbow connection on the pipe being worked on leaking. The meter outside was also leaking and they fixed this; but said it would not have entered the house. The gas was shut off and both areas were tagged. I was told to make sure they did a shadow test along with the soap/bubble test. This would show if there is gas going through the line BEFORE THEY TURN IT BACK ON. I called Hortons back and the same person who installed and came earlier; was the on call person. I told him " I DID NOT WANT HIM BACK OUT TO SEND SOMEONE ELSE. They sent another person who worked on it and when he went outside I went out and told him not to forget to do the shadow test that Consumers Energy said should be done by ANYONE WORKING WITH AND FIXING GAS LINES". He said he did not know what that was and did not know how to do it. He said that here is not a gas leak; that he fixed it. I told him to put that on my headstone when the house blows up. Less than 10 mins. after he left my Husband called me downstairs and said he smells gas. It was so STRONG we were getting light headed. We called Consumers Energy back fro the 3rd time that day. They came back out and could smell gas just coming in the door. The 2 new worked on connections (2nd time) the elbow and valve were leaking gas. The gas at the valve connection was coming out so much he had to shut it off and told me to call Hortions back when he was still there so he could talk to them. The guy from Hortons said he was not coming back out; that he would discuss the problem the next day with a Sam. I took Thurs. (5/22/14) off from work at MY EXPENSE (USED MY OWN TIME) when someone called. The call came early the next morning that they were sending someone totally different from the 1st two (this was after I was told that there were only two of them that could do this work) and he was on his way. This worker (Ron ?) found all the ERRORS and not only corrected them ; but changed part of the line he felt would be better another way. It still took me almost 4 days before I felt confident enough that it was going to work before I mailed back the card tags (4) to Consumer Energy. This company is not one I will ever use (not that they care) or recommend. This could have been a disaster; I have a family and neighbors all aroun

Did not want to give manual or any paperwork on the pump. Called the office. Over a two week period, I was given the run around. Asked why I cared when my condo association paid for it? I am the Condo President, therefore I care. To this day neither my management company nor myself has received the paperwork on the warranty. After speaking to the third representative of Horton Plumbing, I was given the run around once again. The owner never contacted me but did contact the management company to complain about my request. Our Board of Directors has removed Horton from our list of contractors. I will NEVER recommend them to anyone.

At 11 p.m.. we discovered that the hot water pipes to our two upstairs bathrooms were frozen (in the middle of the now-famous deep-freeze of 1/14). We called a couple of plumbing outfits, and Horton's responded first. A fellow appeared about 45 minutes later, and got right to work, attaching electric lines to a "pipe-thawer" (plumber's term). Three and a half hours later, after many trips to and fro from his van outside, the fellow left, our pipes still frozen. We paid $420. Our problem is not so much with the fee, as these fellows have work to do, but with the length of time he spent doing only one thing. After each trip to his van, the chap returned, absolutely reeking of what seemed to be cigarette smoke....to the point that I had to go upstairs and close the door. During the 3 1/2 hours he was there, he tried only the one thing, and we sat around while he attached various electrodes to the pipes. I went to bed, and he finally left shortly before 4 a.m., taking with him a check for $420 written out by my husband. Had I been up, I would have disputed the amount. The next day, a worker from another company came in the afternoon, and by this time the cold water pipes were frozen as well. This fellow worked realty hard for 3 hours, running up and down stairs, using the same sort of electrical business the first plumber had, searching for where the pipes might be most exposed, trying to find a solution. After putting holes in the basement ceiling to where the pipes were (between the ceiling and the outside), he was able to get the pipes to thaw, and left. The pipes were more frozen than they were for the first worker, but the second guy did the job in less time. I tried to put a stop payment on the check for Horton's, but was too late.

Same-day service (on a very busy day to plumbers in the area due to record low temps of -15 in prior night) to thaw frozen copper pipes inside interior wall between upstairs and downstairs related to record low temperatures. Master Plumber Ron did a great job - very patient, explained everything, had to try a few different approaches (in 2 hours) related to challenging location of the freeze and accessibility of the pipes below and above the freeze. Pipes thawed without problems using some type of current machine, without breakage. Diagnosed the problem for how the pipe in interior wall got cold enough to freeze (located near kitchen vent lacking a flap to prevent cold air from coming into kitchen wall), and advised how to prevent re-freezing during cold weather until vent problem is addressed. Educated owner regarding how to shut off water in potential future emergencies, and at-risk areas for future water leaks in the future to address to prevent future problems. No mess made, cleaned up work locations nicely, even turned lights off, etc when completed with various locations of work.

I was impressed with the thoroughness of his approach and his communication with me throughout his visit. I had previously had the same problem and another company had come and taken the 'quick' approach of snaking the floor drain without really identifying what the problem is. He provided me information on options that I have to follow up with the problem and did not pressure me to make a decision right away. I am considering remodeling the half bath so he left the toilet off at my direction and capped the floor and outflow tube. I am planning to call them regarding remodeling and I would definately call them with any future plumbing problems.
Description of Work: Removed toilet in half bath and snaked drain for recurring problem with sewage back up in laudry room. Identified that likely problem is house has settled and pipe under slab is no longer at correct angle to properly drain outflow from kitchen/laundry room/half bath. Offered possible solutions.

The tech showed up approx. 15 to 30 minutes early (which was okay because he called and inquired first). The job was completed in approx. 30-45 minutes. The tech had to retrieve some tools from his vehicle a few times and was very good about putting on and taking off his"footies" that go over his boots. The price to do the job was reasonable; however, it was only because I had a coupon for $20.00 off. The price was set beforehand so I knew what I was going to be charged. I just feel that the job was not complicated and it only consumed approx. 30 to 45 minutes of his time. I've used this company before... every time is a very good experience!
Description of Work: I had a bathroom sink drain running slow. I knew that the pipes were unobstructed because they were professionally cleaned out a few months prior.
