This company was amazing. First of all we own a rental house in Brownstown and live about 90 mins away from the property. After seeing their great reviews on Angie's list we called them for an estimate. They were appropriately 300,00 more than the other companies but it was well worth the money. We called to get an estimate and they were out the next day. We were then called and the estimate emailed to us. This was in April. We signed the contract and the work was scheduled for mid May. Anytime we called them about anything they prompty returned our call. They had a cancellation and even called us asking if we would like our job moved up a couple weeks. This was welcomed news to us since the old driveway was elevated in spots and therefore a liability. After the driveway was poured, Mike sent my husband a picture of the finished product. This was on a Tuesday, on Thursday we met Mike for the first time at the property and inspected the driveway. Very propfessional work would highly recommend them. I might also add we got a discount of $90.00 on a 2700. job for paying cash!

They contacted us when the time came near to begin the work. With concrete the weather can drive duration and start of a job. They said they could start the next day and arrived promptly the next day. They were friendly, professional and everyone seemed to be working the entire time-they were very efficient. Joe one of the owners was here working with the crew. They came back the next day and completed the job. I was provided with a detailed invoice as well as FAQ's about concrete. There was also a thank you note included. My perception is that this company does care about their customers, they understand that business-current and future depends on the customer 's experience and will determine if they have a future business. I would highly recommend them to anyone, the price was comparable to other estimates received but they were the most thorough. I am very pleased with the work and the choice we made to use Romana.

This involved taking out a lot of old landscaping, and difficult preparation because the area was not easily accessed by equipment. Ended up doing most of the prep by hand. Worked with me continually to be sure the end result was what I expected. I could not have been more pleased. The timeliness of the project was a huge benefit also. Only weather caused delays.

I just read [member's name removed] review and called him immediatley. I appoligized to him for not getting him his final written estimate. We talked a few times over the phone about his two projects and talked about ballpark pricing for those type of projects. I did go out to his house to measure up the garage work and bathroom addition. It was right at the start of the spring season. After I came back I had some additional concerns about the bathroom addition and wanted some additional information since it was a complicated addition. I thought I had called requsting the information but after talking to [member's name removed] he dosent recall me calling. This is possible because at the start of the spring season we do get very busy. I asked [member's name removed] at this point if he needed any information from me and he said he was all set. I apoligized again and said if he every needed anything else to please call. Mike Iaquaniello, Owner. Romana Construction 313-220-7411

For comparison sake - this work was done on a 1973 one-story brick ranch, with a detached 2-car garage. 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths. Approximate interior square footage is 1500 sq.ft. 1. The old concrete slabs were removed and forms fitted. Then it rained for several days. So we waited for the weather to improve, and finally got concrete. The surface finish is great, they fit well with the existing slabs, and the pitch will keep water from backing up against the house and garage. 2. New vinyl siding and gutters. This took a little longer to schedule, but once the 2-man crew arrived, they worked several long days and a few shorter days to have everything installed. Our house is only one-story, and primarily brick, with just the white vinyl trim installed around the eaves and soffits. It was not an entire house of siding. We were able to store their bending tools and supplies in our garage, and I'm told that saved a lot of time. They cleaned up after themselves and took away all their debris, and a few yard items (old trellis panel, downspout hose) I was going to throw out anyways. 3. Front entry door went in around the time of the vinyl siding. Some adjustments were needed (no house is perfectly square!), but it works fine and is a huge improvement. 4. The storm door took the longest to install. But it's finally here! Overall - the quote was signed mid-August (2013). The concrete was poured first week of October. The siding was installed first week of November. The storm door was last to go in around the first week of December. It seemed to take a long time to get everything done, so I'm glad it's all finished. Mike was very responsive to phone calls and had updates on the timing as we moved from item to item. In between each step, I was out of town on vacation, so we had to plan around a few days where no one was home. Things seemed to slow down due to the storm door. It took several calls to verify which way the hinges needed to go. But in the end, I got the installation exactly the way I wanted it.
Description of Work: 1. Replace several cracked concrete slabs in the driveway and sidewalk. New concrete porch cap. 2. New vinyl siding and gutters. 3. New front entry door 4. New front storm door.

The owners and workers are courteous and friendly. Their prices are lower than their competitors' prices. In general, their work is competent. They actually took my old car-and-a-half garage down by hand, so that my garden wasn't unduly harmed. I can overlook a lot of things, like the puddle that forever forms in the new driveway, because they're only human, and no job is perfect. I can fix the puddle with QuiKrete resurfacer next spring, though I wish I didn't have to. But still, for the most part, they did a good job. I can hose off most of the bits of concrete which adhere to the new brickwork, and one of the owners said on the telephone that he had not yet sent anyone out to "wash" the brickwork. I assumed he meant to powerwash, and that's all it really needs. The workers trampled some things, like decorative lights in the front of my house, and damaged a couple of tools, but again, I can understand mistakes happen, and the owner DID offer to pay. Most of the potted plants they trampled recovered, although I really never understood why people would scramble over things (I had stacked things in what I THOUGHT was an out-of-their-way spot) rather than tell me to move them or just move the stuff themselves... about a three minute job for one person). They could have gotten hurt, in addition to the damage they caused. What is hard for me to swallow is that they left a live electric wire sticking up out of the ground, with no attempt to cap it or do anything else to it. I asked the owner who was on site that day if it was safe to put the current back on, and he said yes. Later, when I saw the wire, and even tested it with my circuit tester, it was live. How a man who's been in construction all his adult life overlooked that, I don't know, but someone could have been badly hurt or even killed. They offered to send their electrician to disconnect the wire inside my house, but I can do that myself (and did). I was just upset at the potential for harm. When the other owner was to come and pick up his check, he kept me waiting almost two hours (when I had to get ready to go to work). I was pretty upset with him, and he tried to ask what was wrong. He called afterward and left messages to try to make amends. I'll give him credit for that; I was too frustrated and upset to bother having him pay the relative few dollars the damage cost or to have someone come out yet again to wash the bricks. I never even mentioned the puddle to him. I wish them well; they are nice people. But I'd advise anyone doing business with them to ask LOTS of questions and to make very sure everything necessary for safety has been done before they leave.

This was a very difficult job. We removed a garage that was completly surounded with plants and trees. the whole backyard was an impressive garden that I know takes a talanted gardner to maintain the way he did. Because of this I was very apprehensive to take on this job. Paul and I had quite a few conversations about this and finally we both felt comfortable to move forward. My brother and myself both thought things were going great until the job was done and I showed up to collect the final payment (which I was late because of an unforseen circumstance so I do understand his frustation there) but we completely thought we were on the same page with paul on the issues he brought up and we were very surprised when we read this review. I have called numerous times and offered to remedy any of the issues he described but he has not returned phone calls. We still would be able to remedy any of his concerns. Mike Iaquaniello, Owner. The reconstruction was timely, but worth up moment. Mike's crew were all professional and very talented. The carpenters were very quick and efficient in their work. The tile layer was extremely talented and very particular in his work, Every line of tiles row by row is perfect! The plumber was extremely helpful and good at his work giving us helpful hints and ideas along the way and always asking our opinion of location at the end before installing faucets, etc. The electrician work quickly and competently and his work was all approved and looks great. My husband and I are extremely happy with the looks of our new bathroom and the job that all these wonderful people did for us. Even the City Inspectors were very complimentary about the work all these professionals had done. The plumbing inspector even commented on how the plumber had gone over the top with his work and did not just do what was necessary for passing the inspection. Another inspector commented on the perfect lines of the tiling and slate flooring. The master mind behind all of this was Mike Romana and he is such a conscientious person that even with my husband and my pickiness he was always a step ahead of us and had someone taking care of any slight flaw we had noticed. Mike was also very honest about the money issues and kept us aware of every charge as we went along and gave us updated statements with each and every payment. I never felt I was being cheated or short changed at any time. I would recommend him and his crew to anyone wanting to have the best job done when remodeling your home. Thanks Mike we really appreciate you and all of your crew.
Description of Work: Mike and his crew from Romana Construction completely updated our bathroom. The room is very small, but they took it back to the studs, insulated, put up new walls with concrete all around the tub area, put in tiling, new jetted tub, new toilet, new cabinets, new flooring, new sink and counter tops, and put up new lights, added extra plug-ins, new ceiling fan and put up a safety bar in the tub and all towel bars, etc.
Both Joe and Michael were prompt and courteous throughout the initial contacts and all during the job. They demonstrated a high level of professionalism, and I would place them at the top of their trade. Their several helpers, many if not most of them, were family members. All of the helpers exuded the same high level of care and maximum efficiency as their boss. Joe ordered a curb cutting company to cut the existing curbs for the wider driveway. The curb cutter came early in the day. He also leveled the old curbing across the approach to the driveway, since the poor quality of work done by the original builder of the subdivision had resulted in a very uneven, unsightly and ragged edge. Romana came out later that day to remove the old concrete and place the forms for the new concrete. They lowered the grade so there would be 6 inches of new concrete. They brought in gravel, leveled it, and tamped it down with a mechanical tamper. Romana came back out the next day to pour the concrete and finish the surface. They removed the forms and back-illed soil along the edges that day before they finished up work for the day. They came back the following day to make saw cuts and take down the yellow barrier tape so neighbors could use the new sidewalk. They advised us not to use the driveway for 7 to 10 days so the concrete could cure properly. Just as they had done on jobs in an adjacent subdivision, they stamped the new concrete with their "seal" proudly saying that the job was done by Romana Construction in 2013.
Description of Work: Romana Construction removed the old concrete from the walkway and driveway. They widened the driveway to 20-ft, which matched the outside width of the garage. They widened the walkway to 54 inches, right up to exterior wall of the garage. They increased the thickness of the concrete in the driveway to 6 inches, which was recommended since we have a motorhome that we occasionally park in the driveway for loading and unloading.

We are very busy trying to wrap up the outdoor construction season. It sounds like we missed [member name removed]'s call. I do apologize I was not able to talk to her to set up an appointment for a free estimate. I did just go through our calls and I do not see that message to call and apologize over the phone. Everything went very well. From the initial call mike returned my call within hours. He made an appointment to see the job and was on time. They poured a new stamped concrete porch and removed an old clay outdated porch. Also replaced a walkway and parts of drive. Here is the part where I can say that mike went above and beyond. I had some landscape work done and somehow the new slab was cracked in multiple spots probably from heavy weight from a dump truck we determined. A very disheartining situation that mike made a little better by his generosity. Mike and his crew came out and repaired the concrete and resealed the porch for no charge. Thanks mike! And will be contacting Romana in the spring to bid a new kitchen. A+ company

A couple of days after my initial call Mike came out to review the job and discuss the details of what he could do. He presented 3 options and did not try to upsell the most expensive - he was just as positive and enthusiastic about each of the approaches and left it up to me. He answered every question and took his time with me. We scheduled a time for the work to be done and his crew arrived on time and every one of them treated me with respect and took the time to answer my questions as they were working. Mike's brother Joe was the crew chief ... it was nice to know family was involved in doing the job. Over the course of 2 days after the pour, various members of the crew came by to do clean up and some finish work (i.e., cutting expansion slots in the slab, acid washing the masonry, etc) My wife and I are very happy with the job - we highly recommend them.

They did a very good job of tearing out the old concrete and replacing with new. The problems occurred when the sealer was applied. There was a problem with the sprayer system. The sealer was coming out in a stream rather than a mist. The worker continued to apply sealer with the system. Everywhere the stream hit the cement, it made a mark on the concrete and I have swirls all over the driveway and sidewalk. They came out to try to blend the marks in, but the marks stayed. Mike came out and worked an entire day applying a white tinted sealer which did not cover the swirls. My main disappointment is that they continued to tell me the marks would disappear. First, when they came out to cut the concrete I was told the water would dissipate the marks. That didn't happen. After Mike applied the white tinted sealer (which tracked onto my deck and if I had been asked, I would have preferred a grey) I paid the full invoice. I was told the marks would disappear in 3 months. I don't have any confidence that that will happen. $5,500 is a lot of money and I am very disappointed.

I called [member name removed] imediately after reading her review. I assured her that the product put on is a dissapating cure and seal and that I guarantee the product will wear off it is what the product is made to do. The curing agent is applied to cool the surface during the curing period we apply this so the homeowner does not have to wet cure the concrete. To properly wet cure the concrete the homeowner would have to keep the concrete damp consistently for 7 days. I have seen this happen before. As the concrete is curing and naturally turning white the curing agent will be dissapating off. The end product is going to be a beautiful driveway. It has only been a few weeks we need to let the curing process proceed. In the end if she is not happy we will remedy the cosmetic aspect of the curing agent she is describing, but I know that when the curing agent dissipates she is going to wonder when did that happen. We take alot of pride in our work and I will check up on [member name removed] s driveway.
