+ 2 moreThe deck was powerwashed as planned. Owner stopped by and said crew suggested sanding. When he explained what they would do and why it made sense and we agreed to this. Rain delayed the work a little. Obviously this was not their fault. We were surprised upon returning from a late brunch Sunday afternoon to find the deck done. We stayed off of it the 24 hours they requested. Looks great! Professional workers and a caring owner made this a great experience. They will send us a reminder postcard in two years to restain.
Description of Work: powerwashed and sanded deck, rails, posts and adrionack chairs. Stained deck and chairs.

+ -1 moreThey came out within the week I called them to provide me with an estimate. Their estimate was very reasonable so I scheduled service with them. They called to let me know approximately when they would be able to schedule my service and did a follow up call the day before they were going to arrive. They came out one day to strip everything and worked well into the evening. Then came out to refinish it once everything had dried out. There were a few spots where the old sealer didn't come out, but they informed me in the estimate that that would be an issue. Reasonably priced and easy. Overall, I'm very pleased and would use them again.

+ -1 moreWe have used Restore-A-Deck for several years and have always been more than satisfied with them. They will send a reminder post card every 2 years at the start of the season. The 2 years is because we don't need their service more frequently. The post card gives us a "heads up" to make arrangements with them to have the deck power washed and finished. It's easy to schedule with them and to arrange for a mutually agreeable time for the service. We don't have to be home for them do power wash the deck, all we need do is make sure an outside faucet is on for water and the deck has been cleared of furniture. If we need help removing items from the deck, they will do this for a small charge. The power wash is performed on the agreed on date and is done well. The deck crew is scheduled after the deck has been thoroughly dry and work is performed in a professional manner with personnel who stay focused on the task at hand. The completed job leaves little to be desired. You will not find over-spray on adjoining surfaces. Some days later we are sent a bill for the service and that completes the process.

Description of Work: I contacted Restore-A-Deck while collecting quotes for a company to power wash and stain my 14ft x 20ft deck. Restore-A-Deck was very quick to come out, and very professional. Their quote was $300 more than the company I hired to service my deck. I let them know that they were much higher than the other company, and they tried to come closer to the lower bid. However, in the end it was still just a bit too high. However, they were very nice and very easy to work with and if I had more money to spend I probably would have gone with them based on the interaction I had with them while obtaining a quote.

+ -1 moreOverall, I was satisfied with their service. They had two teams - one for power washing and the other for painting. I had a little problem due to miscommunication between two teams - they were saying differently. e.g. Washing team told me to choose a color I want and let them know within 2 days. Next day while I was gone, painting team painted with the color described in the quote without asking me. Fortunately, I was okay with it because the color looks good to me, but hoped they had better communication with two teams. Other than that, everything went smoothly. Washing team came on sunny day and washed my deck. The next day, painting team did their job. The finish quality looks good to me. They also explained to me the choice of paint that I have to help me understand the pros and cons of different paints.

We did not hesitate to recommend Restore-A-Deck to our son in his consideration for porch/deck repair or replace for his house in Royal Oak that he rents out.. Richard Pauley was very responsive and helpful to our son suggesting different options for him to consider. If/when our son does have the work performed he will undoubtedly engage Restore-A-Deck because of our experience with this company.

+ -1 moreThey were fast, and they did a great job. We had to wait a long time to get them to come out. We signed up eight weeks prior to them coming out. So we did have to wait for our turn in line; they obviously had a lot of customers ahead of us. But when they did come out, then they just really took care of a deck that had been neglected for fifteen years. We would absolutely use them again in the future.

+ -1 moreExcellent job. We had an opaque stain on the deck and wanted to return to a translucent stain so we could see the wood grain of the cedar. Restore a deck recommended a semi translucent stain and it looks beautiful! They were prompt and professional and we were 100% satisfied. We would definitely call them again.

Description of Work: I did not use Restore-A-Deck but the next time I need my deck power washed and stained I will probably go with this company. Based upon the quote and talk I had with Richard when came on-site to inspect my deck I feel fairly confident that Restore-A-Deck would do a good, quality job. They apply minimal power when washing the wood which in principal should lessen any potential wood damage and Richard said they would brush on the oil-based stain. The company I actually went with used a sprayer which resulted in over spray onto windows nearby that I subsequently had to clean up. I choose to go with the other company because I had previously used them where I used to live but my overall impression is that Restor-A-Deck would do just as good of a job.

+ -1 moreContacted Joan from the start, who forwarded me to Richard. He was very responsive and professional. He sent out one of his local deck repairmen to assess the damage. They were able to come up with a solution to the water damage that would prevent further rotting. The damage was caused by build up of snow by the door, which caused the board to rot. He put a piece of aluminum down over the board which would allow the water and snow to runoff away from the door. 2 hours and problem was solved. Looks like new. Thanks.

+ 0 moreRich came to do an estimate and talked with my wife and I about exactly what we wanted to do. We had some unique features on our deck such as inbuilt planter boxes, some of which needed to be rebuilt, and a "mystery" hole with framing around it where a previous homeowner presumably had something protruding through. We wanted to have the hole at least covered up. Rich explained that first someone would come out to do the wood repair, then the old finish would be removed, and finally a couple days later the new stain would be applied.The carpentry was first rate. The planter boxes and all the boards were mitered perfectly, and fit perfectly. None of the adjacent boards were damaged in the process. Instead of merely covering the hole (which would have been acceptable), he removed the framing around it, and placed some decking in it's place, which was not a trivial maneuver, so it looks as if there was never a hole! Then the crew stripped the old finish. Rich had warned me that due to the nature of the old finish, some of it would probably remain, but they were able to remove 90% of the old finish. A few days later, the crew came to apply the new finish, which was all applied by brush. Throughout the process everyone was very professional, and the end result looks fantastic!
Description of Work: Replace deteriorated deck boards, perform minor deck modification, strip off old stain, then re-stain.

+ -1 moreIt went well from start to finish. I should have called a professional in the first place. I appreciate being able to discover this company on Angie's List and being able to make comparisons with other companies first.
Description of Work: My condo association recommended a man the first time I wanted my deck stained. I have a 12x12 cedar deck. He power washed my deck and then stained it in a color that was darker than I wanted. I noticed black marks shortly after he finished the job. He did not seem to have a clue. He came back, power washed it again and restained the deck. I was not happy. I researched what the problem could be on the internet and discovered my deck had developed mold on the floor and rails. I researched also how to treat it. I did not trust the first guy to come back and do anything else for me. The deck was built along with my condo in the fall of 2007. It was stained the 1st time in 2009. After I treated it for the mold, a friend and myself stained it. Big mistake to have it done by folks who were not professionals. That was in 2010. In 2011, it was too hot and I did nothing. It did not look good. The paint was peeling, and it looked bumpy in some places. In 2012, I contacted Resore-A-Deck. Richard, the owner came out, took a look, gave me an estimate of the cost and what needed to be done. My deck now needed to be scraped, sanded and restained with a much darker paint because of the wrong type of paint previously used. It was a mess. Once the weather cooperated, Richard and staff did what they had to do. I thought the deck could use another coat because it looked too light in some places. Richard came out himself after discussing what the problem was with previous peeling paint in the light areas. I felt the price was a little high, but it looks much better and I learned an expensive lesson. Leave jobs like this to the professionals. I will be happy for Richard and staff to come back in 2014 and see what will be needed if anything.

+ 0 moreHad a bit of trouble connecting. There was a two week delay beyond the orginal "end of May" date promised to get started. Realizing this business depends on good weather, I checked in with them the second week in June and was told it depended on when the painter would be available, but they couldn't say when that would be. A few days later, I finally got a start-work promise date but equipment failure made them miss it. A pro-active phone call to let me know they weren't coming would have been nice. Instead I had to call them to find out why they didn't show, which is also when I found out they didn't have record of the deck color choice that was previously discussed with Richard. The end result was ok - the deck looks much better than it was. I felt the price was reasonable and probably would be willing to use them again, but perhaps with lower expectations.
Description of Work: The deck on my mom's Livonia home was painted by the previous homeowner and was cracking and peeling. Restore-A-Deck power washed, lightly scraped, and painted again.

Restore-A-Deck offers the following services: Deck maintenance: low pressure washing with biodegradable wood products and our sealer is brushed in. We use only quality products not purchased at box stores. Pressure washing of cement and brick pavers. We also do wood repairs, and can install composite decking.
We do not power wash aluminum siding or power wash second story houses. We can not remove paint or solid decking coatings, these types of products will most likely fail on the floor or flat surfaces of the wood.
