Functional Floors

They did a good job. They arrived early for the appointment. They did an evaluation of the floor and said that I didn’t need the refinishing.

They did a great job and we were real satisfied with them. My advice to others is to hire them. The men were very nice and the price was reasonable. They were there on time and were very professional.

Excellent!! This was the 2nd time I have used Chris and his crew. Just as before, it was great! Chris is a no BS guy who tells you up front about cost per sq foot and possible board replacement. Jake who had the task of finishing the floors was great! He communicated with us and went out of his way to make sure we got the best result possible. GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!!!!

Overall went well however there were some fine details that were overlooked.

Was told that the price did not include sanding and refinishing, just removing the clear and re-applying. Floor did look better, but not sure I got my moneys worth.

Got 3 estimates before selecting Functional Floors. Price was competitive Start date was scheduled easily. I did not give the highest score for punctuality because they did not arrive at the time promised due to to weather on 2 of the days and did not bring the trim I requested to paint until late in the afternoon on the first day. I ended up painting an extra 80 feet of trim that was not used but they took back. Because job took 4 days, I had to insist that job be finished on Saturday on rather than the following Monday. Small things, but things to be aware of. I would use Functional Floors again, I am happy with the floors. They look very nice.

We were able to schedule a time to come out and look at the job within a day or two of contact. The job was scheduled within in a week or two. No surprises. They were able to accommodate a last minute request for the trim installation. The sanding and first coat of finish took one full day. They returned the next day to apply the second coat and install the trim - approx 2 hours. They arrived on time, called ahead as agreed. No surprises. Would use them again in a minute.

They quoted over the telephone and we set a start date. They showed at the date and time promised. Did the work as promised and completed on time. There was virtually nothing to complain about. I would recommend them and use them again if needed. Thank you Angies List and Functional Floors.

Functional Floors and Finishing did a good job. They were in and out and they were clean. It was very well done.

Overall, the floors look amazing! Also, the people at this company were fantastic to work with - honest, nice professional and had a team approach with great communication. The estimate was professional and exact. Because they had to match the existing boards, a call to establish the wood availability was required, but it was completed on the spot. Options regarding matching the new flooring to the existing were offered up during the estimate as we decided what we'd like to do. When it came time to chose the color, we were able to regard several test stain colors on the new flooring and the existing flooring to be able to chose the right one. After the bulk of the work was completed, the project manager saw some sealant drips/globs on the floor that we also saw, but completely removed them without a hitch and the whole floor is perfect. I'd highly recommend this company and would use them again for all my wood flooring projects.

The men called at every point to advise us of arrival times. They were prompt, courteous and considerate. Didn't waste their/our time. They attempted at each point to answer questions and resolve concerns. DO point out any areas of concern as you notice them. It saves time in the end. They were careful to protect our possessions, and taped off our rooms to manage dust. They gave us a few days to prepaint our quarter-round, then returned to install it. The finish is lovely, exactly the color that we had hoped for. Although the package comes with 2 finish coats, I would definately recommend a 3rd. They were very easy to work with.

Great job. Arrived on time. Masked off areas to keep dust contained. Spent a good amount of time sanding to get a smooth finish. Cleaned, Put on a coat of finish and returned the next two days for two additional coats. Very pleased with the work they did.

Happy with the level of professionalism and quality of work. We had one mis-communication on a board that required fixing and now I'm told it can't be fixed because of the finish quality. Too bad...guess we'll get an area rug.

With a DIY home improvement project gone awry, Functional Floors came in and saved the day. I ripped up the carpet in a spare bedroom and discovered not only a severely damaged floor, but one covered in a layer of flat white paint. I tried to strip it, but soon realized I was in over my head. When I saw their deal here on Angie's List, I nabbed it. After the consult, I knew that they were going to lose money on this project. And I knew they knew it too (although they never betrayed that to me. I just knew.) But it did not impact their level of professionalism in the slightest. The three hour job ended up taking six hours, and the service tech worked non-stop for that entire time to make sure he made that wreck of a floor shine. When I couldn't make the follow up appointment for the finishing the next day, I had no trouble trusting them with entry to my house without my presence. They not only did an amazing job, but went above and beyond to ensure my house was secured after they left. Long story short, the quality of their work exceeded my expectations, and their professionalism was second to none. Yes, I got a great steal on this project, but guess what? I have two other bedrooms in the same condition that will need help. And when the time comes, I will contact Functional Floors and gladly pay full price.

A representative came out to survey the space prior to performing the work. This was both to measure the area of the room (which was an unusual shape) and check out the condition of the floor itself. He arrived on time and was exceeding polite and extremely friendly. I felt immediately at ease and knew I'd be comfortable having Functional Floors do the work at my father's house. As I had purchased an Angie's List Big Deal coupon, I knew there might be an additional charge, but the room fit within the parameters and my service was paid in full. I chose a stain color and we arranged for the work to be completed the following week. When the service date came, the weather was particularly snowy. The worker called an informed me - 40 minutes prior to his scheduled time of arrival - that he "might be" a bit late due to the road conditions. This is a perfect example of the courtesy and professionalism of Functional Floors. He arrived on time, started work immediately and finished on schedule. The floors look lovely and the worker even removed the ancient carpet in the closet for no additional charge. I will most definitely use functional floors again and will recommend them highly to anyone who needs hardwood flooring work done in the future.

Our floors look amazing! They did such a great and timely job. They paid attention to all details and did a great job cleaning up after. We are very impressed with their work and would highly recommend them.

I used the $499 Big Deal to sand, stain, and refinish the 2nd floor. I have to pay additional because the rooms were larger than 300 sq. ft. Also, I decided to not sand the 1st floor since I am watching my budget, and the floors were not in as bad a condition as the 2nd floor. Unfortunately, I forgot to mention to the painters that I will not be sanding the 1st floor, and the painters were not as careful about spilling paint on the floors. I called Chris about the issue, and although he was concerned that it is possible that there may be a little bit of paint left on the floor, he did say that the guys will probably pay a closer attention to screening the floors if I point it out to the them when they I arrived. And I did point out the paint on the floors when the guys arrived, and they didn't say anything about the paints while I was pointing it out. The guys did point out scratches on the floor will not go away without sanding, I said that the scratches were ok. Then the guys moved on to the stairs and pointed out that the dirt and paint may not be removed from the stairs, and he said that he will call me if there was a problem. I did not receive any calls so I assumed that there were no problem. The stairs did look good when I checked. Unfortunately, the 1st floors were not. There were still a lot of paint on the floor. I called Chris about the issue, and he was really very nice about it. However, since the guys pointed out the dirt and paint issue on the stairs, then to him, I was aware of the problem, and agreed with it. Unfortunately, I do not feel that this is true from my point of view. Since the guys walked me all the way to the stairs to point out the issue, then to me the problem only applies to the stairs. We were closer to the living room, that if the issue was paint on the floor, he could have just pointed at the floor, instead of walking me to the stairs before pointing out the problem. This may be a case of misunderstanding. But the bottom line is, the floors has paint under the polyurethane coat. I could have deferred the 1st floor work if I had understood the issue, and cleaned up paint on the floors first. I do not really mind a spot of paint here and there, but the paint that was left on the floors were more than a spot here and there. The paint is clearly visible when you walk into the room. Chris did offer to touch-up the polyurethane coat after I cleaned the paint. But the cleaning would have been easier before the coat was applied. I will give Functional Floor a fair rating since the floors does look good where there were no paint. But the paint on the floors did make me unsatisfied with the finished product.

They arrived on time and worked throughout the day until the floors were sanded and finished.Did a very nice job. I love the finished product! I would use Functional Floors again.

From setup to the service to the finished product there was nothing left to be desired. Highly recommend.

We hired Functional Flooring to refinish our wood floors. Let me preface this by writing that we have never had wood floors refinished therefore have nothing to compare the quality of work. With that being said we are very happy with the results. If you want to deal with a company that has excellent customer service, this is the one. Chris always returns your call promptly, when my wife and I changed our minds regarding the sheen on the floor, it was done with out drama or extra cost. Thank you for a great job.

Working with Chris and his crew was quite satisfying. The floor they refinished was in terrible shape. Spots, stains, paint splatter, carpet residue, general ickyness. I doubted whether it really could be refinished satisfactorily. It turns out, these craftsmen really know their stuff. They arrived on time and were polite and thoughtful. They protected our house from dust by hanging plastic sheeting across the open part of our family room and taping it all around. At my request to conserve energy and keep the items stored in our garage secure, they opened and closed the garage door whenever they entered or exited to get to their truck in the driveway. They worked efficiently and effectively. When they were finished, they brought me around to the garage entrance to take a peak at the transformation. The two men who had done the work on the first day informed me that a third man--a molding specialist--would come the second day to install shoe molding and apply the second coat. According to schedule, the third man arrived, did his work, and departed. The floor looked fantastic. Once we were able to go into the room, we noticed something we had been unable to see from the garage entrance, which had been the only way to view it while it was still drying. We called Chris and he didn't hesitate to send his molding expert to touch up the problem. Overall, we are very pleased with our beautiful floor and the way the refinishing job was handled. They sanded and stained the rooms on the first day, then returned in the late afternoon when the stain had dried to apply the first coat of varnish. I asked for 3 coats of oil-based varnish on this high traffic area, so each coat had to dry for a full day. Functional Floors returned on the second and third day for the additional coats. I'm retired, so I could be flexible about what time they arrived each day; they maintained good communication and always showed up as promised. The floor looks great, and I am planning to use them to refinish one more room upstairs. ONE WARNING: If I could do it over, I would insist that they actually stain a small sample area of the floor, maybe even with several colors, in order to judge the real color in the lighting that exists in the room. The color samples on the website are only approximations and the colors look very different on the floor. Not the fault of Functional floors, just a limitation of computer screens. Be aware that the stain changes color as it dries. This will slow the job down a little, especially if they have to re-sand a sample area, but you're going to have to live with the color for twenty years. I did ask they if they could bring pre-stained samples of the kind of wood that I have on my floors, and they were not able to do that. Seems like that would be fairly simple for them to do, and would be a significant improvement to their service. Overall note: I downgraded their letter grade from A to B because of their lack of color samples, and because each time they have come, they've done minor damage: banged up woodwork, dented drywall, minor spills. Nothing major, but annoying and unnecessary.

Very well. They refinished an old floor that had been carpeted for 40 years. They stained in a dark stain and put a matte finish on it. Very professional and courteous.

This went well. The salesperson that initially came out was very prompt and professional. The workmen were very nice and did a great job.
