Were great. Workers were on time and kind and responsible.

The contract with Northern was signed in November 2008 with the understanding that work could not begin until spring 2009. A $5,000 deposit was required. I didn't hear from Northern again until March or April 2009. First, they needed to get the building permit from the City of Lansing. I was angered that they had not done this all during the winter when they kept my deposit - in fact, from my perspective, they had done no prepatory work at all for my project. It is because of this that I've rated them a "C" on responsiveness. It turned out that the City denied the permit on the basis that my home was on a flood plain. Because of that, a building permit had to be obtained through the State of Michigan Department of Environmental Quality which would over-ride the City's decision. This delayed the beginning of the project by a least another month. Once the permit was finally secured, work began in May 2009. First the roof was replaced, then the framing for the porch was done. The new gable porch roof was built over the old porch roof. A juniper bush was removed where the new porch would be extended over. Since the original porch floor was cement, it was removed by jack hammer, and hard manual labor. The new porch floor was also poured cement. The porch railings and a couple stairs were built with treated lumber. This lumber, however, was very green and after 2 years has begun to warp noticeably in several places. Also, some of the lumber used for the columns and porch roof support had unsightly knots and imperfections which could have been placed by the builder in less obvious positions. In a couple places where the stairs were screwed in, the wood split and little pieces of wood loosened from the edges of the stairs. Insulation was blown in through a hole that the contractor cut in the new roof and then repaired. I have often wondered why they didn't install the insulation through the access inside the house - but assumed they did it this way because it was easier for them. New double pane basement windows were installed, and finally a new garage door was installed. The total project was completed by the end of June 2009. Overall, I am satisfied with the workmanship and the end results: there is no more ice damming, no more leaks around the basement windows, no leaks in the roof or into the garage like the old roof had. I enjoy my porch in spite of the imperfections in the lumber.

We ran into snags with the city code before we could rebuild and they were on top of it without adding expense. They did great.

Had a Hanson's-like quality. The salesman spent a lot of time selling us on the company upfront to justify prices that were double the other quotes we were getting. He was nice but stuck around way too long and wasn't taking hints that we wanted him to go.

It was a greta feeling having a quality job done without problems or hassles.

It all started when they came to quote the job. The owner came out for the intial consultation and then sent the lead customer support employee out to go over my options. I decided to move forward, and during the entire process I was getting phone calls to ensure I was happy and to let me know when it was time to make decisions. The crews that showed up were very professional and the porch was built in the matter of two days. The siding crew worked during some very harsh weather, and did an excellent job. They were even nice enough to help me put in a glass block window while on the site. The entire process is compelte now and my house looks amazing!

I had used them previously 3 years ago. Their workmanship and products stood out and made me call them again. I love their windows. It is an excellent company and I would recommend them to anybody.

The rep for this company was very thorough, professional and helpful. Bottom line for us was that the estimate was about 50% more than 3 other estimates, all the other three were in the same ballpark.

My call was immediately returned and a face to face appointment scheduled with Larry Savalli, one of Northern's sales representatives. Mr. Savalli was prompt in keeping the appointment and was extremely courteous, honest and professional in his interaction with me. He offered several suggestions regarding this job that I had not previously considered as I had never before been through this type of contracting process. Mr. Savalli responded with a siding bid within 48 hours of our meeting, including local references for jobs recently completed in the neighborhood. He even provided me an estimate on what I should expect to pay locally for a roof replacement job, although I did not anticipate using Northern for this service. I found Northern's bid to be just a few hundred dollars above those I acquired from several competitors. In the end, I chose to work with another company due to my familiarity with their workmanship, ease of scheduling and comparable pricing. That being said, I can offer no negative comments or impressions regarding my limited interaction with Mr. Savalli or Northern Home Improvement. I would not hesitate to call them in the future or recommend them to others in need of home improvement services.

I used someone else for the roofing but I will probably use them for windows in the spring. They seemed very professional, they answered questions, and they did not seem pushy when they were promoting themselves. They followed up a few times. From dealing with them, I feel quite confident that I will get a call in the spring but I won?t be pestered in the mean time. I recommend getting a quote from them. I have heard that their windows are excellent for northern climates.

Northern Home Improvement is very easy to work with. They are very responsive to answering questions and inquires. Their customer first attitude is very much appreciated, and they do a good job of keeping the homeowner up to date on the what, when, and where of the job at hand. All of the workmen were very respectful of our house, and made every effort to clean up any mess that was made. The project actually started a month past the expected start date. This was due to a number of factors - weather, product availability, customers ahead of us adding items to their contracts on the fly, and a back log of jobs to be completed ahead of ours. In the end it was all worth the time, effort, and cost. We could not be more happy with the end result. After all work was completed we had three licensed profession realtors come in and evaluate the work done. All three realtors gave our finished project a BIG thumbs up on design, quality of the work performed, quality and selection of materials, and the price we paid. Bottom line: This is the fourth project that Northern Home Improvement has done for us (previous projects include, new windows throughout our house, new roof, the replacement of two exterior doors) and we would recommend them to anyone considering a project such as ours.

"At this time we have completed and accepted the design of the new kitchen and dining room. Cabinets, flooring, lighting fixtures, and plumbing fixtures have been ordered. We expect work to commence prior to the end of July with project completion prior to September 1, 2010. The detailed plan for this project has taken approximately two months from beginning to our approval. This is the largest project we have ever undertaken. To ensure success for us and the contractor we have been very deliberate and detailed in the entire planning process. We expect this will pay off with a completed project that we will enjoy for many years to come."

Excellent. The three times I have hired their services their professionalism, the quality of the products that they use, and the superior craftsmanship of their work are all grade "A". I have recommended Northern Home Improvement to many friends and neighbors. We expect to hire them again in the near future for a project that is in the planning stages.

Overall excellent work. Quick with the estimate, work was done on schedule. We had a small leak in the new roof after a major three day rainstorm (!). The head roofer came out within two days to fix the problem: a slow drip from around one of the roof vents that the manufacturer claims doesn't need caulk, but apparently does. Roof has been problem-free since.
