Ingham Painting

After previously painting the exterior of my house last year, and having had a good experience with Manuel, I had him paint several rooms on the interior of my house. Manuel did an excellent job inside and made sure everything was to my satisfaction. He is a very nice man who wants to make sure everything is done correctly.

My house looks great! Manuel was very responsive, came out quickly to give me a bid on the cost of the work I needed done and finished the work in a very timely manner. I asked him as part of the job to assist me in using a countertop granite paint I purchased from Amazon. He agreed and the countertops turned out great! I have laminate countertops that needed updating and Manuel and his team assisted with the trickiest part of the kit which made everything turn out well. The first day he spent several hours scraping, patching and otherwise prepping the surfaces to be painted. During the whole process anytime I saw something I thought needed a little extra paint or that needed to be addressed in any way he took care of it. He and his team did usually show up a half hour or so after he stated but that wasn't a big deal for me as the job was still finished on time and looks great. If I need more painting I will definitely call Manuel.

We obtained several bids, with PRICE being the LEAST important factor. He had a list of homes completed in Chesterfield Hills, East Lansing, and we did not actually go up to the homes closely to examine quality. We emphasized to Manuel that the most important factor is quality. Manuel Heredia assured us that he would be on site every day, making sure the job was done correctly. He never finished the job, because we had to fire him, because the quality was so bad--overspray on the brick and windows, damaged caused by his ladders on the redwood siding, paint on the concrete patio, bubbles everywhere. It took him almost 2 months to cover 50% of the home and poorly at that. Along the way, we showed him problems in the quality and he promised he would take care of it. He never did. Although he started early in September, he wasn't close to finishing by the end of October, and, by then it was too cold to paint. We lost $7,000 and ruined our house, and we now have to pay another $6,000 to have it corrected and finished properly. Furthermore, among his many excuses, he blamed the delay on his lack of ability to buy Sikkens stain locally--despite admitting that he COULD have bought it in Grand Rapids or Ann Arbor--which he told us after the fact. Now I see another review that says their paint job was completed during October, when Ingham Painting was SUPPOSED TO BE PAINTING OUR HOME UNDER CONTRACT. The only exception would have been on a rain day, where he needed to do an interior job somewhere: fine. But he should have obtained the material needed for my job first. Manuel, himself, does NO work, even when the crew is lagging way behind, and his crew has one speed: slow. His crew does NOT listen to Manuel. They arrive late morning, and they leave early afternoon. One of the three is fluent in English language. Photos included.

Several delays in start. Finished project was fine but stain was spilled on painted floor. I got the impression one of the workers had little experience. However, the owner was very solicitous and tried hard to please.

The room looks great! He did an excellent job on the trim - there is a sharp line where the trim meets the wall. As an after-thought, I asked him to paint the inside of the front door, which was looking dirty and scratched. It now looks brand new. They do a great job of protecting carpet and furniture, and clean up afterward. In the past, I have done my own painting, but professionals do a MUCH better job. It's nice to not have to worry about the prep and cleanup. Totally worth the cost!

I hired Manuel to paint the exterior of our house. I interviewed several others and I'm glad I chose Manuel. I found him to be very professional, honest, and friendly. He power washed the outside of our house before he started painting. If anything needed touching up, he was always there supervising his crew and willing to go the extra mile! We had a door in bad shape (see pictures). Manuel and his crew not only painted it, but repaired it too for no extra charge! He was willing to work on weekends to get the job done before the Winter set in. I would definitely hire him again and may have him do some interior painting during the winter months. I know he is looking for interior jobs during the Winter when it is too cold to paint outside. I will definitely be using Manuel in the future!

Manuel was very professional and was willing to work with my schedule. The work performed on the home is far more impressive than I originally anticipated. He is easy to talk to and very accommodating. I look forward to working with Manuel and his crew in the near future!

The painters were on time and worked the hours that were spelled out when we hired them. We had a few areas that we noticed needed a touchup after the paint dried. The owner came back twice at our request to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. They were able to work a weekend to minimize the amount of time we had to take off work.

Very well. Manuel did a good job and was very concerned that we were pleased. The deck looks great!

Prompt, professional, attention to detail, fair pricing structure, I could go on and on about the services provided by Manuel from Ingham Painting but i think it best just to say that I will not look elsewhere for my painting needs!!!!!!! In a business that is often fraught with scam artists Manuel is a rare find.

Called Ingham Painting evening of Wed, July 3. It was after hours so left message assuming wouldn't hear back until next week since was a holiday weekend. Owner, Manuel, returned call next day--Thurs, July 4. Arranged to come Mon, July 8, to look over job & give quote. Started job on Thurs, July 11. Spent several hours power washing porch & deck--removing old stain down to bare wood. Came back Sun, July 14, to sand porch & deck to remove any left over stain or splinters. Then they swept both areas. We have had the porch & deck power washed several times over the years & then we do the staining ourselves. NEVER has anyone done as thorough a job as Manuel & his two employees. Manuel kept in constant touch by phone or text to reaffirm the time he was coming. He was prompt, polite, & respectful of our property--even removing his shoes when entering the house. At first we thought his quote was a little high, but they earned every penny! Next time we need this job done, he will be the first one we call.

I called and left a message for Ingham Painting detailing what I needed done. I received a call from Manuel the next day setting an appointment to give me an estimate. Manuel called the day of the appointment asking if it was okay to come early because he was already in the area. I agreed and he came and gave me my estimate and I hired him. I felt his estimate was very fair for the job. We agreed on June 8th for a start date. Manuel and his helper were late arriving and weren't able to complete the power washing that day. We had a bit of rain so finishing the power washing was delayed until there was a dry day. Once the decks and stairs had been cleaned we had to wait for 3 consecutive sunny days so the wood could dry out before applying the sealer. Manual and crew arrived on Friday June 21st to apply the sealer. They all worked hard and finished the sealer around 5pm. I have 2 large decks connected by stairs so there was a lot of spindles to cover. They ended up using 2 extra gallons of sealer, but I was not charged for them. My decks look great and we are now using them again because of how nice they look!.

Overall, the job went fine. I believe the painters were a bit over-booked with other jobs. But overall, fine.

In May of 2012 I contacted four different painters and received a quote for my two story, 90 year old, wood sided home. My home was in pretty rough shape as it hadn't been painted in over 6 years. It needed to be scraped and prepped before painting. Ingham painting quoted me the job for less than half of the other three competitors and even provided some reference properties for their work. I should note that the other three painters quoted lead paint EPA rules, due to the age of my home, as part of their reason for having quotes nearly double of Ingham Painting. Ingham Painting did not quote, nor did they follow the guidelines in regards to potential lead paint precautions as far as I could tell. My understanding from the other painters was that they would have to basically wrap a big plastic sheet around my home and on the ground to make sure no paint scrapings got lose. I should note that while I understood these guidelines my house had been painted within the last decade so there was little chance of there still being lead paint so I accepted Ingham Painting's quote knowing they had not quoted the extra steps the other painters had quoted. A date to start was chosen and the owner, Manuel, came out and got the work under way. He and one other worker came out and scraped one side of my house after laying down a plastic drop. Unfortunately due to wind paint chips ended up all over the place but they did attempt to pick up most of them. After painting the first side I had to speak with Manuel about missed spots I could see that had been missed and they were not just in the corners. I had to inspect the work they did on each side and had to have them fix what they missed. Also during the process they didn't always take good care to cover items around my house causing paint to get on my garden hose and some patio bricks but after asking Manuel to correct this they did clean up these problems. I rate them overall as Fair because their price was extremely competitive but I had to do way more oversight than I would have liked. I would have liked to have hired them, inspected their work and found it to be satisfactory without prompting. Also the job took a little long at almost 5 weeks but in all fairness I did not give them a deadline to finish the job, something I'd do in the future. The owner has experience painting but his crew are not painters by trade as he indicated a couple times they had other jobs they also held. The job was completed satisfactorily. If you don't mind some extra work on your part then they might work for you but if you just want to tell someone what you want done without much oversight then they may not be for you.

After completing the job, Manuel returned to make sure I was satisfied and touched up te few problem areas I discovered. The crew arrived on time, worked quietly and professionally, completed the job within the time period agreed upon, and cleaned up afterward. Manuel is very conscientious and made sure that the job as done according to my wishes. I chose Ingham Painting because they received good reviews in Angie's List, gave me the best price of several bids I had received, and could do the job within a few days of my contacting them. They did an excellent job overall. I would not hesitate to use them again in the future.

The crew arrived in early morning and had the work done before noon.

The trim on the third floor required standing on very high ladders to reach parts of it. Three of them working together completed it all in two days, and it now looks very nice. Manuel Heredia, the owner of the company, is very friendly and eager to please. He gave me a discount because the work went so quickly. He also does interior painting and is interested in finding inside work for his crew during the winter months.

Manuel was a pleasure to work with. He basically showed up when he said he would and kept us up to speed on what was happening at the time. He and his crew even showed up to paint on Labor Day to take advantage of good weather, which was certainly not expected. His bid was very competitive and even gave me a break on the price when the paint we decided to use went on sale. I would have had no way of knowing the paint was going on sale so the fact he gave me a discount was a good testament to his honesty. There were a few spots where some overspray had gotten in ares we didn't want it but it was easily fixable, and Manuel would've been happy to do it but they were so minor I covered it up with the extra left over from the job. Manuel also called a few weeks after completion to make sure I didn't have any issues. I would be happy to hire Ingham Painting again.

I was extremely impressed by the work performed by Manuel and his crew. They kept me informed throughout the project, and performed very well overall.

We contacted Manuel at Ingham painting for a quote to get the exterior of our house (vinyl siding) painted. Although physically in good shape our vinyl siding was quite dirty and wasn't a color we loved, we wanted to complete a "freshening" of our exterior after just finishing a new roof. Manuel returned my call quickly scheduled a time to come out and see the home for a quote. He was right on time and asked for permission to take pictures as he walked around the house and took measurements. While he was surveying the house he took care to explain to me the whole process, including the cleaners he will use to wash the house first so the paint will adhere properly, the necessity of using the right paint on vinyl siding, and how he would patch small holes and imperfections in the siding at no additional cost while he was performing the work. As we wrapped up surveying the house Manuel advised me he would need a few days to prepare the quote, and invited me to come pick it up at house he was currently working on. Although he came with pictures of his work, and great references from Angie's List I really appreciated that he invited me to see the quality of his work in action and I agreed. We met two days later and he delivered the quote and I was able to see his team working on their current project. While there he pointed out the care they take while taping/masking so that overspray is not a problem, and assured me no paint would get on my new roof or any where else it wasn't supposed to be. I was impressed with Manuel's dedication to quality, and was happy he also offered a great price. I hired him, and decided to have him clean and stain the deck while he was at it. The whole process was smooth, Manuel kept in good communication about when he was going to be there and what he was going to be working on. There was several days when the weather (rainy or windy) wouldn't allow them to work with the sprayer, but instead of getting behind they used the opportunity to do other work, like paint the shutters (that were off) or work on trim or the covered porch. I was impressed with Manuel's attention to detail, he did a lot of little extras that weren't part of the contract that really "iced the cake" like putting a fresh coat of paint on the gutters, house numbers, even our flower holders. As he wrapped up the job he made sure to walk the entire job with me to ensure I was satisfied, the whole time it was clear that satisfied customers were very important to him and his business he built himself. He asked me to call him if I had any problems and he would take care of them right away. He even called me a few weeks later to make sure everything was OK.

Overall, I pretty happy with the work that they did. It took about three days for them to do the work, but they weren't full days. Manuel (owner) is very friendly.

I had three companies come and give me estimates. Manuel was the most reasonable and closer to our budget. He came a few days after my initial call to give me an estimate and when I told him I was hiring him, he immediately set the start date a couple of weeks after. He did let me know that he was currently working on other projects and there might be delays due to rain. We started a week later than scheduled but he made it a point to keep me updated. They came on the date scheduled and did a good job with prepping the house. They made sure the furniture and carpet were covered. I was undecisive with my paint colors, so Manuel patiently appllied two samples and gave me enough time to decide. They were meticulous with the wood trims and the result was great. Manuel told me to let him know if anything needed touch ups and when I pointed out a few areas, he worked on them right away. He also said that even when they are done,I could call him back if I see any imperfections. It was over all a good experience and we are satisfied with the result. We already have an estimate from him for our exterior painting and another project for our kitchen, hallways, laundry room and a bathroom for the winter!

It was a very small project. It went fine. He is just a small independent guy. I ran into him when he was painting another house. I talked to him. It was just a tiny little project, but he did it in a timely manner. He seemed to do a pretty good job. He cleaned everything up. I will probably have him do it again in the spring. The price was good.
