Description of Work: It started out with a main line sewage blockage. We had another company actually come out and figure out the issue. It was more than a blockage. The original metal piping had corroded away. That company gave me an estimate of $2300 to replace 10-20 feet of old metal pipe. On top of the 350 I had already paid for them to figure out what was wrong. I called out Modern Plumbing because I wanted a second estimate for a project that big. The gentleman who came out checked everything over and even looked at the pipes in my crawl space. The only part that needed replacing was that one stretch of outside pipe. He told me he thought it would be around $800, no more than $1500 depending on if they ran into any issues. They didn't charge me anything to come out and look at it, and I hired them to fix the pipe. Final cost was somewhere around $850. A price I was relieved to pay when I had been staring at an estimate for $2300. They fixed it promptly and we've had no issues since. They will be the first people I call going forward for anything I may need done that they can handle. Thank you!

Description of Work: Modern Plumbing unplugged a kitchen sink drain; professional, timely, and initially effective. I had to have them return approximately 6 weeks later for the same service. They only charged for "time." (Another "show up fee" was NOT charged.) I would use them again.

+ 0 moreWe noticed that the old water heater had a small leak. It was over 25 years old.I called them on Tuesday and made an appointment for Friday morning. They said between 8:30 and 9:30. He called and was there at 8:30. He looked at the situation and he suggested a replacement with new connections and all labor. I decided to up grade from a 40 gal. tank to a 50 gal. tank. He went back to get the new tank and was back buy 10:00. He replaced the old tank with all the connections and disposed the old one and cleaned up and went over the new operation of the new tank. All this was completed by noon.

+ 1 moreThey responded in a very timely manner and came out the next day to give an estimate. He knew right away what is was going to take to get it done. A few days later as scheduled they came with a mini excavator to dig out the old pipe and replace it with new all the through the wall of the house and into the septic tank. They did a very nice job and all I had to do was spread some new grass seed where they had dug. Plumbing work always seems kind of expensive, but they came in and completed the work in just a couple of hours that would have taken me all day, been a real mess, and several trips to Home Depot to get the right fittings. They cleaned up everything and we hardly knew they were there. And I know the job is done right. After the work was complete there was a mix up on the balance of payment resulting in an over payment. She called right away before I even realized it to apologize and refund the over payment. I appreciated that. I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: I called to say we had a broken cast iron sewer pipe that goes from the house to the septic tank. They came out and replaced the old cast iron pipe with plastic all the way to the septic tank.

+ 0 moreIt was a bit upsetting to find out the switch for the drain field was broken and had to be repaired but it had to be taken care of and they repaired it a few days after the septic tank was drained. We were happy with their service and recommend them.
Description of Work: Septic tank was drained. It had not been serviced since 2005 and was over filled. Also had to have the drain field switch replaced.

Description of Work: My kitchen sink was soooooo plugged that the water just sat there. (in both sinks) I called Modern around 12:30/1pm and (I think her name was Lisa) said they would work me in today. At about 4:30 I was getting a little worried so I called back and was told they would be there by 5:15. Yeah! Travis called around 5:05 and was there by 5:10. He had his work cut out for him. It was a deep, heavy blockage. But he got it! He checked the bathrooms and washer to make sure nothing was coming up thru them. All was good. He cleaned up to my satisfaction, I paid him and all is right with the world again. (oh yea I had a $15.00 coupon from the phone book). He was gone by 6:30.

He was a little pessimistic about our plumbing future. He was perfectly nice, it's just that I didn't need that that day.

+ 0 moreTheir office rep gave us an install time of 3pm. The installer called about two hours before the appointment time to ask if he could come early. He came right over after his call. He came right in and checked out the old water heater and let me know that it was bad. Before getting started, he let me know what heater would be installed and told me about the additional charge for a new gas valve.The new water heater was installed in a very neat and timely manner. I was most impressed with the manner in which he explained the useage instructions. The installer was very patient and responded well to our questions. I would not hesitate to call Modern Plumbing again.

+ 1 moreLes came out for the initial estimate on a Friday and had Brian come out for the work Monday morning. I had a brief conversation with Brian and got an ETA of 3 hours from him. I arrived back in 3 hours Brian was completed and did a quick walk through of everything he fixed, all was correct and done neatly and professionally with no mess. I know plumbing is an area where companies can get a bad reputation but I selected Modern based on their Angieslist reviews and was not disappointed in their services. I would not hesitate to contact them again for anything plumbing related, fair, reasonable priced and work completed on time and correct the first time.

+ 0 moreThese guys have no problem working in a crawl space. They are very professional and friendly. Very good at explaining the problem and the solution.
Description of Work: I have used this company twice. The first time was 6/26/2006 when I called because my water pressure was low. They came right out and checked my well storage tank (in the crawl space) and found I needed a new one. We decided to put two in and never to have to mess with that again. They did an excellent job of getting the two tanks in the crawl space and hooking them up. No complaints or whining. Cost: $1,460.50. I used them again on 5/11/2011 to have a water meter installed as my utilities were being estimated and were three times the cost of a family of five or more.( I have well water but I am hooked up to city sewer) Again, they were very prompt and friendly and Les and another worker got the work done in one morning. Cost: $533.50. No doubt I will use them again if needed.

+ -1 moreWe had a leaking faucet, which had actually broken and started leaking previously. Initially to solve the problem, we had another plumber in who charged a lot and took a long time to fix the faucet. This was not the case with Modern Plumbing. Given the information over the phone, Modern Plumbing researched the problem, gave us several solutions. We picked one which involved us purchasing a new faucet which they installed. They checked all the lines in the sink, tried out the system before leaving, cleaned up, and did it in a short amount of time for a fair price. No leaks!
Description of Work: Les, the master plumber, fixed the leaking faucet in the kitchen sink. We actually had to buy a new faucet but he replaced it quickly and efficiently. We have had the problem before, used another plumbing service, but Modern Plumbing solved the problem and they were very professional about it. I would use them again!

+ -1 moreThe person who came was very pleasant and professional. However, he did not have the parts to actually fix the faucets. He did get the first faucet to turn off. He offered to come back with the parts. However that seemed expensive so he also told me what type of faucets I have and showed me why there were problems. He wrote the faucet type right on the work order and told me where to go to get the replacement parts. I was able to go purchase the parts and fix them with my husband. My only reservations are that the person who scheduled the appointment did not get my street name correct (obviously didn't listen to me spell it as it was a completely wrong word -tree as opposed to -fern) and so he was a little late AND to pay $139 for instructions seems a bit high...
Description of Work: My 2 frost-free outdoor faucets had problems. 1 wouldn't turn off and the other dripped. We are not a very handy household, so I called to have them fixed.

+ -1 moreTechnician showed up to replace the shower faucet, that went well. Upon testing the faucet, discovered that the drain leaked. Asked the technician to replaced the drain, in the process of replacing the drain another item was damaged. This the company replaced at their expense (significant). While the replacement may have taken longer in our case than in some others, but this was a result of our availability to be home for the tech. Overall a positive experience.

+ -1 moreLes, our outstanding rep from Modern came exactly as promised, right on time, and diagnosed both of our problems instantly. There was no question that he knew what he was talking about (we've had less experienced plumber friends of our own do work for us before). He explained in very clear terms precisely what the problems were and our best options for dealing with them (short-term and long-term, depending on what we wanted to invest). The leak from the sink basket was a quick fix, and he provided a recommendation that we replace the defective faucet (a recently installed one, for which we can't find the warranty info) soon, before it breaks and creates a larger problem. Most impressively, after completing his work efficiently and totalling up our bill and applying our coupon from the phonebook, he took the time to make a call to a local plumbing supply company--off the clock--to find out if they could provide the replacement we needed. Very impressive overall. Not only would we use this company again, I would specifically request Les's service as plumber.
Description of Work: Replaced strainer basket on one side of sink bowl, and tested with water after sealing. Examined separate leak coming from faucet, which needs to be replaced soon.
