Modern Plumbing Sewer & Drain Contractors

Both jobs went very well. However, I have just learned by phone from Modern Plumbing that they no longer do residential plumbing as of January 1, 2018.

He did excellent work. He was even nice enough to help me put a floor lamp together.

Did OK, but cost way more than warranted.

1.) There were two workers, one was terribly unprofessional and was arguing with the other the entire time  2.) Sewage had leaked in a closet and there were sewage-covered footprints in the room attached, the hallway outside, the room across the hall which contained a breaker box that they needed to get to, and up the stairs to the main floor.  We had to pay $200 to a carpet cleaning service to clean and disinfect these areas which should never have been made dirty as the sewage was contained to a concrete-floored closet that would have easily been cleaned with a mop. 3.) They quoted on the phone and on paper $59 as a service call fee and then $24 for every 15 minutes they were there. They charged me double that because they sent two workers. I wasn't quoted $24 per 15 minutes per person, I was quoted $24 per 15 minutes when I told them what was wrong and they sent two guys, quoting apparently for one.  In short, yes, they did do the job of clearing the main pipe, but they made an unnecessary hazardous mess in three rooms, then acted unprofessionally, then billed deceptively, so they will not have my business in the future.

They were prompt and performed their job very well. Even though the evaluation didn't go as we had wished (the shower stall was installed improperly by a different provider), they were able to get the drain flowing and advised us on the next steps. We will definitely call them if we need plumbing help in the future.

The technician was friendly, prompt, performed great work, and explained why I was having an issue fixing this issue myself.

I have had a loud noise coming from my furnace for about 2 years.  It was annoying more than a huge problem.  I had the company that installed the furnace come out several times and they couldn't find or fix the problem.  It turns out it was from the humidifier attached to the furnace.  Modern quickly discovered the exact problem and installed valves that solved it.  Excellent work, reasonable price and very professional

I had had a different plumber in my house a couple weeks earlier to deal with a kitchen sink leak.  At that time, he had told me that it would be $400-600 to clean out our slow-running bathroom sink.
Today the sink stopped running completely, and I decided to try Modern Plumbing based on the recommendation of a friend.  
I was very impressed with Modern Plumbing.  Not only were they very professional (calling me when the plumber was on his way, explaining their rates up front, etc.), but the plumber they sent (Ernie) was VERY thorough and honest.  He explained what tactics he was trying and why.   After using a machine to clean out the pipes as far as it could go, the sink was draining better, but he wasn't satisfied.  He worked on the sink a little bit more and got it to the point where it was draining quickly -- not filling up the sink at all!  
And then, when it was time to write up the bill, he told me about a coupon in the Yellow Pages and had me get it out so that he could apply it to my bill.
Needless to say, we will be calling Modern Plumbing for our future plumbing needs instead of that other guy!

I called them for an installation on a water softener unit that we had already purchased. I just needed it installed and hooked into the plumbing. The first time they sent someone out he came to check out what the situation was with the plumbing and to see the unit. He did not have any of the parts needed to do the install and stated that he had to order most of them. Also I needed to move some items for them to better access the plumbing when he returned, which was fine with me. I found that kind of surprising seeing as how this is something that they commonly do, and it is a plumbing business. I paid the service call fee ($59.00) and then a $25.00 fee for the 15 minutes (or so) he was there, along with tax and fuel surcharges bringing the total up to $97.00. I then called to schedule the install again. Approximately 1 hour before the plumber was scheduled to arrive, the office called to cancel due to a plumbing emergency. I then re-scheduled again. I was called 30 minutes before he was scheduled to arrive by the office and notified that the plumber who was coming had called in sick and that they had nobody else that they could send. This was the last contact that I had with this company as I am not going to use them again, and am willing to forfeit the $97.00 to have someone else more reliable come in and do it.

Ernie, from Modern Plumbing, came on time and ready to work. He had to work very hard to remove the old galvanized pipe, most of which was behind some cabinets. I was glad to give him a hand because it actually took two people to do some of the job. I was very pleased to see that Ernie was willing to listen to my concerns, he was respectful and diligent in the way he carried out his duties. He did cut a couple of pipes two short, which forced him to do additional work, thus lengthening the duration of his visit and the final cost of the project (Modern Plumbing charges by increments of 15 minutes). There was some time idling in the van both before Ernie came in the house and after the job was completed, which I was also charged for. The project was a bit in the expensive side, but I was satisfied with the work performed.

Tommy, Joe and their crew did a bang up job on our bathroom. There was a roughed in sewer line for the toilet and sink, but no shower. They had to jackhammer through the concrete floor to run a sewer pipe to tie into the rest of the plumbing. They also ran copper water lines to the new bathroom. They also installed the shower and shower faucet. Since we have septic, there was a roughed in sump pit that had to have an ejector pump they installed one too. I'm very pleased with their job and professionalism. It was a HUGE job and they did it promptly.

They were prompt, professional and provided me with a good amount of information about my drain system.  He was able to answer all my questions honestly and without hesitation.  Should I ever require service again, I will certainly call Modern Plumbing.

The guys were professional, on time, and knowledgable. The price is a bit high... they charge $59 service fee , which I knew about ahead of time, but they also charge $8.50 for fuel charge and $5.50 "misc shop supplies" while they also charged me $45 in materials , when I supplied the garbage disposal. I live in kalamazoo, I know it didn't cost $67 to drive here!!

Satisfied Customers are the best advertisement!  That being said, Modern Plumbing deserves highest marks as a quality plumbing company! They provide experienced & knowledgeable plumbers as advertised.  Tommy came out for the initial estimate; he was friendly and explained everything thoroughly.  Joe & Brady provided the outstanding service!  They were prompt, polite & very professional.  Joe took the time to explain everything to me after they finished the work, which I really appreciated.  He did such a fantastic job that we will request him personally to fix any future problems that we may have.  These guys are top-notch & I believe are the key to the success of this reputable company.  Modern Plumbing "Rules"!   Five Stars All The Way...A++

Everyhting went as planned. They called miss dig a week before to have water/phone/gas locations marked. Arrived on time and finished without any problems.

Same day service. My only complaint is that they charge for every 15 minutes and the work took less than 15 minutes but they charged for the time getting into the house and then spent several minutes coming back to give me the bill, thus adding time. They charged for 30 minutes when it should have been 15. Nevertheless, the came on the same day as I called and overall were quick to diagnose and solve the problem.
