My husband and I recently purchased a home in Kalamazoo. An upgraded home warranty was part of the sale. After about two months in the house the basement flooded due to sump pump failure. I contacted America's Preferred Home Warranty and they advised me to contact a plumber, which I did. Upon plumber's inspection of sump pump it was discovered that a previous owner had tampered with the sump pump. This could not be seen in the inspection I had before purchasing the home. America's Preferred Home Warranty refused to honor the warranty, I paid the plumber for a $50 service call and the sump pump was left in pieces in my basement where it remains. It has been two weeks and nothing has been resolved. A wet basement in Jan and Feb in Michigan is bad enough but on the 29th of Dec my husband left for work and ended up that evening in the ICU of our local trauma center on a respirator in septic shock. He remains in the hospital and his recovery is unclear. This is a critical time that I needed an insurance company that stood up to it's advertising. With my realtor's help I have used a wet vac, carried buckets of water upstairs to be emptied, torn up wet carpeting and disposed of laundry that was ruined in the resulting flood. What could have been an easy repair has snowballed in to a nightmare. We purchased the home and included America's Preferred Home Warranty in good faith. They have failed to live up to their agreement.

After a week in our new home, the air conditioner failed. We called the warranty company, and they spoke to the A/C service company. After talking with our repair man about the A/C unit, they informed us it was not covered. Only after we had our agent call the company and threaten to stop using their service did they agree to the work.
