Description of Work: Tile work in my bathroom. the first guy did not know what he was doing. Put the tile up wrong around my tub.It was not level on the wall. After 2 trips out by 2 different owners they decided it was done wrong. They did pay for all the materials to redue it and a different tile layer. Bob did a great job and it looks great. The price payed was more then quoted.

Description of Work: First part of 2015 had called the Handyman in Grand Rapids Michigan. They came and installed a light fixture in the bathroom and they were to put a light bulb in the kitchen light. When it came to the kitchen light he said the light fixture would have to be replaced. He told us he could go to Home Depot and get the fixture never disclosing that we would be charged for the time and also at Handyman prices for the light fixture. So for that small job it cost over $450.00. We were shocked and we have told several other people. Never will use Angie list again due to this repair.

Tom (Owner) and Jeff (contractor) showed up right on time in very professional uniform. Pleasant and friendly with introductions to the company made by Tom. Reviewed the work we wanted to have done. Jeff installed 4 bedroom/closet doors with hardware, 2 ceiling fans/lights including the electrical, exhaust fan/light in the bathroom and two new bathroom sinks and faucets with removal of the old ones. Laurel called the day before to confirm time that Jeff would be coming. They did an overall excellent job and we are very pleased with their work. I would highly recommend them for those jobs that have been left undone for several weeks or months!!

We are an older couple that cannot do handyman jobs so thought this would be a good company to become acquainted with. I won't try them again.
Description of Work: I called and left message ( June 17th). Marcia called back and advised of time and material rates. She advised someone would be calling back the same day. Then I didn't hear anything till June 27th. Laurel called back that morning and asked what type of job and then asked me to email pictures of the area to be fixed. It was raining and I had to wait till late in the PM before it quit so I could take pictures and then email pictures. I haven't had any acknowledge of receiving pictures, nor a phone call. Guess my job was too small for them.

I'm disappointed that this customer had such a negative impression of Mr. Handyman, initially; however, we spoke with her after this posting and she assured us that given the unusual circumstances, she would not hold a grudge against us. We certainly wanted to do the job, but this posting excludes some facts: First of all, the customer's original call was made on June 27th, at 4:38pm and it lasted 4.7 minutes. I know this because our office phones were busy and the call was taken by our 24-hour live answering service, which takes any calls that we don't answer locally. The agent who took the original call is named Marcia, but she does not make outbound calls, so she certainly did not "return" any calls--she fielded the very first call and described our business and rates. She emailed the message to our office per our procedure. Secondly, when Laurel (our customer service representative) returned the call, she asked if the customer could possibly take some photos to give us an idea of the scope of the project. Laurel was concerned that the job might be too big for us, perhaps a major concrete repair job beyond our resources. The customer indicated that she would be happy to send photos after the rain subsided. Laurel stated that she would review the photos with one of our technicians and then call the customer back. We never received the pictures from the customer. After the holiday weekend, we were reviewing all of our potential customer engagements and discovered that we had not received an email yet from this potential customer. After searching through our email system, we discovered the message in a SPAM folder. This is the first time that we have experienced this problem, and we immediately called the customer to tell her what happened. She appeared to be totally understanding and forgiving...But by this time, she had already excoriated us on Angie's List. Every potential customer is precious to us. We try to answer every call, respond to all requests made by email, internet, text message, etc. Sometimes, we make a mistake and we apologized for this one. It's bad enough to lose the potential job, but even worse to be criticized for not calling back within a few days during a holiday weekend. We had hoped this customer would be as forgiving as she implied that she was in our last communication with her.

This is a job I had been screwing with for about 16 years and never got it right. I called Handyman and they sent out a man named Mitch. Not only did he explain what I had been doing wrong, he went out and bought the materials. Explain in detail what he was going to do and then did it. The finished job is total perfection. You want it done right call Mr. Handyman tell them you want Mitch and just sit back. I have never had an experience as good as this.

He did work for us in July. He has recently done work for my mom and I because we bought a house together. We had him for the whole day so they gave us a deal on the price. They are real easy to work with. The house we inherited was quite a disaster. I was only in Michigan for a short time and they were able to squeeze us in to get the work done. Mitch was his name. He was so nice and helpful. He did a good job.

The service was excellent from start to finish. Adrienne provided excellent communication regarding appointments; Tom was prompt in coming out and giving an estimate and scheduling the work around my schedule; Mitch was excellent in performing the actual work.
Description of Work: Two ceilings were repaired for water damage. One required drywall replacement. Both were sealed and painted.

It went very well. The job was professionally done and in a timely manner. It would have taken us forever to fix those doors and they would not have turned out so well. They are older doors so alot of adjustments had to be made. They turned out great.
Description of Work: New carpet was installed so the bi-fold doors and regular doors would not fit. They trimmed 3 sets of bi-fold and 3 regular doors and also installed a new lock set for the garage entrance door.

He admitted that he didn't know what he needed to do to fix the garage even though he said he had a contractors licence and built homes. He twisted a few things and called it good. He didn't have tools in his truck to fix anything else I needed done except to cut a ceiling tile and place it. I had asked the price when I called and gave him an hours pay for the 45 minutes that he was there and then he informed me there was also a flat rate service call price also. I could have got a professional person who only fixed garage doors for a better price and had it done right. I own a business and get many things repaired and that price was exorbitant. You can have a licenced professional fix things for less than what they charge. If you use them you better have all the tools and materials you need for the job on hand.
Description of Work: He was supposedly fixed the garage door which still does not work any better than when he came and cut a ceiling tile and placed it in my drop down ceiling.

As the owner of Mr. Handyman, I am disappointed to see these negative comments by one of our customers. I’m not sure why she has posted with such hostility, since we tried so hard to work with her. She refused all of our efforts to talk with her. Clearly this customer has strong feelings that we can’t change, but I’d like to correct some statements she made, based upon our records and what the service technician and our office staff wrote in their job notes at the time. 1) The service call took place on March 30, 2010, not in August 2009. 2) When our technician arrived, the customer described a problem with the garage door not closing properly. Together, they ran the garage door opener a dozen times without any discernible problem. The technician said that the customer seemed surprised and explained that recently it had not been working consistently. Without benefit of observing the trouble she described, he examined the track, cables, springs and opener to determine if there was anything obviously wrong. He found a bit of slack in the cables and adjusted the spring tension. The door continued to operate properly after these adjustments. 3) Since we have a one-hour minimum, the technician asked the customer if she had any other tasks that she would like him to complete for her. She asked him to cut and install a ceiling tile. After that, she indicated that she had no other tasks for him. 4) The technician drives a van, not a truck, and all of his tools are in it. At no time during this visit, did the customer request that he make repairs for which he lacked tools. 5) The job total was $132, not $150. Before we schedule a visit, we always tell our customers about our rates, including the van service fee. This customer claimed not to know about it, and was quite agitated with our technician as she paid. When he told us, we made several calls and left messages offering to credit her back the service charge. She never returned our calls, so we also sent her a letter. She did not respond to that either. I’m not sure how this customer would have liked for us to address this situation, since she refused all efforts to contact her. I truly sympathize with anyone who hires a repair service and then cannot demonstrate the problem—it’s frustrating. But what more can be expected of the repair technician? Although I’m not pleased to see this customer’s opinion, I am proud of how our staff handled this service call.

We hired Mr. Handyman to focus on the bathroom in a house that my family inherited and needed a lot of work. I was only in town for the week and they were great in being able to work us into the schedule on a short notice. We had a laundry list of tasks in the house and they were great in being able to adapt to our changing needs. When Mitch arrived he was very friendly and keep me informed throughout the process. It was worth it to pay a little extra to have Mitch go out and get the additional supplies needed, since it ensured the right products were purchased and he was very prompt. As the flooring was setting he helped us paint a ceiling in the bedroom (which was easy for him because he was tall and our family isnt :) ). The flooring looked great and we were ready to hire Mitch for the rest of the day, although he was already booked. We plan on hiring him for additional carpentry work.

Fabulous experience; I recommend them without hesitation. Each time I spoke with Tom he was very pleasant and professional, and so was his staff. Mitch was great too and he had some good advice about getting our home 'market ready'. In May, Tom communicated with me and kept me updated about the need to go by our house, find the necessary sash to fix the window, and on the cost. I know for a fact that having them spruce up our house played a major part in getting a good offer on our home and getting it sold and closed within only two months (Feb. 20th - May 30th). Also, this house is in Michigan and we were told by our realtor that the Michigan housing market (when we first put it on the market in Feb.) was one of the worst markets in the country. Our home sold quickly and the ONLY thing we did was have Mr. Handyman make small repairs and fixes, change some light bulbs inside and outside, apply some paint, and repair the window (and also have the carpet steam cleaned by another company). No regrets....I am satisfied and I now have high expectations of the Mr. Handyman servicer in the Atlanta, GA area.
Description of Work: We spent $1200-$1300 total on services performed on several occasions between January 2010 and May 2010. *JANUARY*: Asked them to do minor repairs since we were planning on putting our house on the market. Mitch (he is so nice, very professional, has a great attitude, and he is thorough) came over and did 3 or 4 drywall patches (two small, two med.), secured rods to a heavy window treatment over the patio door, changed light bulbs b/c we have high ceilings, changed the faucet to our kitchen sink (I'd already purchased it from HD), and fixed an area underneath our sink that revealed a small amount of water damage. While there, I asked Mitch to see if he noticed any other things that needed to be repaired and he pointed out a few things that he ended up doing while he was there. *FEBRUARY*: I called them again b/c as we were packing up our house to move out of state, I noticed a few other things that I wanted to have done. Mitch came again and did a few other repairs and patched some of the small nail holes on the walls from pictures as well as painted an entire wall (narrow entry-way wall) that had a few nicks and scratches from over the years). We moved to Georgia on February 20, 2010 and put the house on the market the same day. Between 2/20/10 and 4/30/10 we had 3 offers on this house in Michigan and I am sure it was because we fixed those really small repairs that stick out like a sore thumb. *MAY*: We accepted the third offer on our house and we were supposed to close by 4/30/10 but an inspection of our home revealed damage to an upper bedroom window. We were in Georgia and didn't have any family or friends to help us resolve this issue and the window had to be fixed before we could close. I contacted Tom and let him know our situation and he said 'no problem; we help people who move out-of-state all the time.' So, Tom was able to connect with our realtor to set up a time to determine the amount of damage. It turns out the window sash needed to be replaced or another window needed to be installed. Because we weren't there, we had to rely on Tom to do all of the research and legwork to find a new window for us and/or new sash. This is why we ended up spending so much in the end because of this window repair and the labor involved. BUT, let me tell you I felt 100% secure that this issue would be resolved because I TRUSTED them and I felt confident in their ability to do the job and have it done in a timely manner so we could close on our house.

The company was prompt and efficient always answering my work order on the same day or next. They have been wonderful in sending me the same handyman to the house so that I feel safe and have established a relationship with him over time. The owners and the handyman are professional and have a meticulous attention for detail and customer satisfaction. I had several people tell me that the garage door was not going to be repairable, and within less than an hour Mitch had it fixed and looking as if it was never backed into. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Description of Work: This company has done multiple jobs for me. They have repaired my garage door that I backed into with my car. They repaired a large drywall hole in my wall and did some interior hallway painting. They have installed a keyless entry lock on my outside service door and have repaired my dead bolt lock on my front door.

I was very pleased with the professionalism of the Mr. Handyman technician. He was on time and discussed the process with me before getting started. Being a single mom, it was reassuring to know that the technician was licensed, had undergone a criminal background check, and his work was guaranteed. He did a great job on the window repair and on the gutters. He even fixed the gutter warmer wires that were damaged by a falling limb at no extra charge. Overall, I was very pleased with the service I received from Mr. Handyman.
Description of Work: A leaking and rotting window frame was repaired and the gutter's were cleaned and repaired. The deck was also cleaned of leaves and limbs.

The best way to use this service is to have a to do list ready so you can have many projects taken care of by one person. I had the parts ready, caulk, airpump here when Mitch arrived. We went over the projects and he got to work. It was wonderful to have it all completed and not have to wonder who to call for which project. When I called Mr. Handyman they went over my needs and gave me an est of time needed over the phone and put me on the schedule for the following day. I also recieved a verbal est. on some proch trim that needed to be refinished. I had Mitch back to sand the area and then we refinished the wood. Great job, very professional.
