Description of Work: Having never replaced a roof before, I thought I would try Angie's List to save time and the hassle of trying to understand all the in's and outs of the process. I'm in the group insurance business, and know well how bids don't always tell the whole story and can "omit" key pieces of the puzzle. My first experience was with the roofing company with the most AL references. We scheduled a Saturday appointment, and the guy showed up Friday to do measurements. He spent 3 hours taking measurements and in my yard drawing my roof to scale with pencil & paper, which i thought was tedious. Then, as we talked afterwards, he continually pitched me as if I were not the one who called them and as if I wasn't aware that I needed a new roof. That was aggravating. He was planning to discuss the job with the owner/boss and would be over the next day with their proposal. During dinner out that night with my family, he called me to cancel our meeting, and said that my job, "didn't meet their corporate vision" 3 times over. It was pretty clear to me that the guy was clueless, and should have made that assessment when driving up to the house, rather than after 3+ hours of wasted time. If you can't handle or don't want big jobs its ok, just don't waste time. There were 2 highly rated AL contractors I was impressed by, and was confident would do a quality job with my house. They ended up about 500 apart on my 20,000 job, but Ed Moore was the difference so I hired him. My first visit with Ed was really impressive. He showed up with a google-based cad-cam of my roof, and materials estimate that he assured me was within 1% of the needed materials. No wasted time and no wasted materials. With his 30+ years of experience, we discussed my dormers and how they should look as they did originally, not the aluminum-sided version my previous homeowner turned them into. He also suggested the Owens Corning product and colors to consider. I trusted Ed, as he clearly takes pride in his work and his reputation, and he had conviction based on his experience. Prior to making the decision, I reviewed all the AL reviews of both contractors, and wrestled with one negative review of Moore and Sons that made it sound as if they didn't manage the mess or respond as expected to customer complaints. I hired them based on the fact that the review never criticized the quality of their work, just nit-picked at the process. The end result of my decision to hire Ed and Jeremiah is that 20,000 later, my wife and I could not be happier with the end result. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat. My experience was not without hiccups or challenges, but every step of the way they were on top of it and delivered on their promises.
