Thank you for the review, we install every roof like I was installing a roof for my Grandmother. This attention to detail and quality is why Owens Corning gave us the Platinum Preferred Award and why we have the Angie's List Super Service Award.

The job went just perfectly. The team were courteous and professional. They were careful to protect our shrubs, trees and plants as well as the house. Their cleanup was great and as far as "all the details" there are no details to provide. They came and quoted us a price (we had five other company quotes) and we picked them based partly on price but also on the professionalism and no nonsense approach. The other companys tried to "add-on" other things to fatten their contract and were pushy regarding the "sign now for the best price, etc." The best thing we could ever say about them is that we would have them again!

Ed Moore, Jr. was my contact and handled the job. It took 2 calls to receive a response to my initial office call, but Ed did contact me shortly after that. I was impressed that he showed up at the allotted time during a day when it began to rain. I told him he could return the following day if that would make it easier for him, but he said he wanted to check out the job anyway. He made a complete inspection of what we needed done (in the rain!), then wrote out a quote and explanation of materials within a few minutes. Since we were using Owens-Classic shingles (we wanted to match those we already had on our new addition) I was happy to learn that Moore and Sons specialized in Owens-Classic products, and Ed was very knowledgeable about their specific qualities as well as their application processes. I had received two other quotes from 2 highly rated Angie's List roofers in the area, and all 3 ratings were virtually identical. I had the roof job quoted with a separate quote for new gutters and downspouts. One quote was especially sophisticated and impressive in terms of literature and presentation, but that quote took almost a week to get back, and the price was substantially higher. The other quote was closer in price, but still not as competitive as Moore and Sons. Always the skeptic, and never one to accept the lowest bid, I asked Ed to return in order to question him regarding some of the specifics in the other 2 quotes. As expected, many of the "fine details" and highlighted points (including materials) in the other 2 quotes were nothing that most reliable roofers wouldn't do or use anyway, and were virtually the same as Moore and Sons would be using. After agreeing on what we needed done, and adding the backyard shed to the job, Ed gave me a final price and he was awarded the job. I'm sure the other 2 roofers would have done a fine job as well, but price was a significant factor. We waited about 3 weeks for the installation, because of a backlog on their end as well as rainy May weather. The entire job was completed in 2 days (even dodging the weather) with the exception of the gutters and downspouts, which were done the following Monday. The work crew were experienced, worked efficiently, and obviously knew what they were doing. They were careful about landscaping and shrubs, and did a nice job cleaning up afterwards. I would highly recommend Moore and Sons to anyone in our area as a reliable and competitive roofing installer, and I won't hesitate to call them again for any work we need in the future.

Ed is extremely personable and down to earth contractor. Great workmanship and leaves the grounds spotless. Couldn't beat the cost and the job was top-notch! Have known dozens of people that have used him and everyone says the same thing about his work ethic...on time and on the mark. If you are looking for quality work at a good price...you'd be silly not to use him.

Mr. Moore came out and was very personable. He seemed knowledgeable about roofs. He gave me a ball park figure, and said he would have the final figures that night. I said it would be fine to e mail me. When we walked to the front of the house, he said, "scratch that ballpark." I assumed that comment was based on the his judgement that we had ore roofing that he first realized. At any rate, I did not hear anything that night, and in fact, I never heard boo from him again, so we wound up going with another company. At the least, he could have called and apologized for not assessing accurately on the first go round.

Jeremiah Moore met with us several times to quote the job, discuss the scope of the project, and help us select the right products. The project was scheduled and performed with as much expedience as challenging winter weather allowed. The crew was always conscientious about the narrow driveway, neighbor's fence butting up against the garage and cleaning the area. Whenever there was a question about what we wanted, we got a call before they proceeded. Jeremiah arranged for another company to do the gutters so that all of the work could be performed and completed in a timely manner with both companies working in conjunction. We are pleased with the quality of the work and appreciated meeting with the owner, Jeremiah, and his expertise in helping us select the right products. He was upfront about limitations and challenges our particular project posed and told us there might be some "unknowns" as the tear off proceeded and he was able to get a look at what he would be dealing with. Luckily, there were no big surprises and no jump in price. He also worked around his committment at the Home Show and we saw no lapse in work or response times during this busy period. Although we spent a lot of money, Moore and Sons price was competitive and the work well done.
Description of Work: We had a total roof tear off, decking areas that were repaired, flashing repaired, ridge vent and edge vents installed, and new shingles installed. We also had painted aluminum siding and fascia removed and new vinyl siding, fascia and soffit put on. We had this done on the house and detached garage. The scope of the work also included replacing two windows and two exterior doors. Gutters and downspouts were also replaced, but that work was subcontracted out.

Moore and Sons Roofing stripped off the old roofing, replaced weak and damaged boards, installed new roof with underlayment all in one day for both house and detached garage and hauled all old material away all in one day. They did have to return and install additional vents the next day around the perimeter underside of roof to finish project completely do to equiptment restraints. I did find some some pieces of old tile and few nails - but, considering the amount of old material removed - not much to complain about. The new roof looked great and problems with existing water leaks removed. It take a longer time than intisipated to receive my extended waranty and noticed later that there was was some scraching on the top part of the gutter system when the old roof removed - I think it could of been protected better.

We wanted to report on the entire process from finding a roofing company, the first visit, their workmanship on the job site, any repairs needed after the installation, and when our warranty was recieved. From start to finish, the process has covered a period of 3 months.FINDING A ROOFING COMPANYI (husband) met one of the Moores, from Moore and Sons roofing; at the home show in Grand Rapids back in March of 2012. They install Owens Corning fiberglass architectural shingles. I researched 10 different companies between March and May and I liked the product that is now available for homeowners thru Owens Corning as well as the extended warranty. We had Certainteed shingles on previously and had to do a complete tear off because the shingles were curling only after 10 years of usage. Yeah, I wanted to try something different. Our problem is that we generally give people the benefit of the doubt and what I heard from Mr. Moore intrigued us. In the end though we kind of felt duped! THE FIRST VISITThe first time he came to the house, he was 20 minutes late because he did not realize the travel time was longer than his GPS told him, but I gave him a chance to bid on the job anyways. Every other appointment after that though was on time and he semmed to be prepared.THE WORKMANSHIPThis company is a "platinum preferred contractor" for Owens Corning which means they can offer a warranty that will cover workmanship a lot longer than the state requirement of 18 months and the parent company will give the consumer an unprecedented 50 year warranty on top of that. The cost was $11.00 more per square of shingles. After our issue with Certainteed, this sounded like a great deal? We thought they were the "Best of the Best"! Two areas that really resonated with me and my wife about our agreement with Mr. Moore was: 1. He seemed to place a very high standard on a thorough clean up process once the job was completed.2. This was our home and if something didn't seem right to let him know so that it could be addressed during the process. * When the job was finished he spent maybe 2 hours helping the crew / leader clean up. The next day I had to rent a magnet and over the course of my rental, I found well over 100 nails still in my yard. I took a picture of the bag but did not know how to post it on the site. He never offered to pay for my rental even though I told him of my findings, in fact he reassured me that the cleanup was done properly. I have a family and it bothered me that if I was mowing the yard and I ran over a nail that was ejected from the mower and it injured my child or the dog? You know this is serious stuff! * While installing my ridge vent at the peak, I noticed that my old vent had a vapor barrier attached to the underside of the vent. I thought what in the world would be a benefit of this, so I contacted Owens Corning via my phone and I asked if this barrier would also keep unwanted flying pests like stink bugs and ladybugs from getting into the attic and the representative told me that the barrier could be used like that also. I asked if it was available in my area and the representative said it was available. So I went out to where the company had there boxes of ridge vent and upon opening an already opened box, low and behold there was a ridge vent just like the ones that came off my roof, so I approached Mr. Moore and inquired why I could not have the same product installed back on my roof. His response was that he only offered two kinds of ridge vent and the one with the vapor barrier was not one of them, in fact he was clueless why he had a ridge vent with a vapor barrier. So much for leading us to believe about the importance that this was "our home" * He underbid the job, but luckily he had some more shingles of the same lot. The issue though was his crew also had the same color on there truck which was a different lot and they installed 6 - 8 pieces before they realized what they had done? They proceeded to tear off the bad ones, but forgot one piece? So, we have one shingle in the middle of the roof that does not match the rest of the shingles? * We have gutter guard on the gutters and I asked before I hired them if this would be a problem. His response was "NO". I assumed he would have the crew take the guards off before they tore off the roof. They did not and what we found was that they used self drilling screws to hold the gutter guard in position during the tear off. This created a puckering of the shingle. I also approached Mr. Moore on this and was told "We'll take care of it". Well his crew did, only they used gray finishing nails and nailed all the shingles in place where there was puckering. * The pamplets from Owens Corning all show the ridge vent coming to the end of the roof on each pitch. The company says that this is the preferred way because it adds a more finished look to the job. Not with the Moores, they have there own interpretation. * We asked that each day they needed to start cleaning up at 6PM because our daughter was still in school and 8PM was bedtime. On the 2nd day they were still hammering away at 8PM? My wife asked them to please quit, and to re-install the dish for our TV and return tomorrow. They started cleaning up around 8:30 when they realized they did not have enough shingles. * On a positive note though, they tried to work with us with the state of my fascia where it meets the shingles on the "eyebrows". They tried to get the gaps between the shingles and the fascia to a minimum, the gaps originally had roofing cement in them. It looked OK, but there are still 2 spots where the fascia was bent trying to remove the old shingles and put on the new ones.REPAIRS* We had one issue with a metal valley on the front of my house and I called the company to have them check the feature that I thought might be defective and I explained in detail where the issue was. We were gone and out of town on the day he was supposed to be at the house. We never recieved a followup call assuring us that everything was OK and there was nothing like a written repair posted on our house, nor in our mailbox. EXTENDED WARRANTY* Finally, after 3 months we recieve our warranty from Owens Corning. Everything looks to be in order and we hope we never have to use it. At least the roofing company followed through with filing the paperwork. FINAL THOUGHTS* In the end though, as stated earlier, I think the product is better and years ahead of the other shingle manufacturers. I did a lot of research, and our expectations were still not met like we would have preferred. If you hire this company just be aware that you need to voice your expectations before you sign the contract. Discuss the product and if you want the exact mat'l replaced and installed in the same fashion, get it in writing. Really important is the ability to be there and actually watch what they do. Question everything that appears out of place and demand that they correct it and then inspect it. if I was not working ten hour days, I probably would have. I'm a Tool and Diemaker by trade and I know that I probably scrutinize other peoples work more than my own. In my trade, I'm held accountable for my work. I think others should be too!

This was a 3 day project finished on time. I am very pleased with the quality of the workmanship. I got one other estimate from a highly rated Angie?s List Roofing Contractor that was comparable in price. I decided to go with Moore & Sons because they are a Platinum Preferred Contractor for Owens Corning and the Manufacturer?s warranty could not be beat. They were courteous and professional during the entire process.
Description of Work: Complete tear-off of 2 layers on a one story ranch. Approximately 21 bundles Owens Corning Duration shingles installed. The price included replacing any bad wood; they ended up replacing more wood than they had anticipated in the estimate at no additional cost. I had them remove the decorative wood trim at the top of the facia which required the roof edge to be cut back about 1.5 inches and new fascia metal installed on the entire house and garage. I also had fully vented soffit installed on the overhang that extended across the screened porch (approximately 20 feet). This required a portion of the roof to be removed so the old soffit wood/metal vents could be taken out and the new soffit installed. The installer was very accommodating as I had to work along side him adding ventilation baffles and insulation.

Due to poor material used during the construction of this home 12 years ago, we needed to replace the shingles on this home. Several of the other homes in our neighborhood replaced there roofs last year and we knew our time was coming. We asked our neighbors for recommendations based on their experience and this company was hightly recommended. They explained the process and the timeline up front and were able to meet or exceed our expectations. They were prompt, cheerful and courteous during the process. They warranty their work and nothing has ever gone wrong. I would definately use them again.
