Cregger Plumbing is a very good company. My family and I have used them for many years. My drain started out as the first problem in November, followed by a new toilet, and new water heater. They did a very good job on all installations, and found the source for my mud room smell and fixed the drain. They are always prompt, usually have coupons either with Angie's list or on their web site. The employees who answer the phone are always courteous and helpful, which I really appreciate when I am not sure how to describe many of my plumbing problems. They are great if your problem is an emergency, they try to help as soon as possible. I have found if something is not fixed to your liking, or not working right, they come right back and it is corrected. The Plumbers are all helpful, courteous, and are very well trained. I have always had a call back to see if everything is working, and if I have found any problems with their work.

Even though I had not originally told the receptionist about this second problem as I had been told by other plumbers it couldn't be fixed, Kevin fixed it! (I had suggested trying to fix the knobs with either washers or cartridges that I had seen on U tube. As a Master Plumber, Kevin always knows immediately what needs to be done, what materials are needed and how to do it properly. I never have to call him back for work he has done. An added plus, he has a dry sense of humor. His appearance may be a little rough, but the bottom line is he does quality work and as this is my mother's home and I appreciate it and so does she.
Description of Work: 1. Replaced old faucet and two handles with one I provided and replaced two hoses underneath which he provided and didn't charge me. 2. Replaced washers for two handles in another bathroom . Used Big Deal for #1 ($111 for $200 worth of work) and for #2, I used the $5 leftover from the Big Deal and Kevin also took off additional coupon. I turned off/on the water at the main both times and had area prepped with towels and bucket.

,My hot water heater died. I called Cregger Plumbing at night which their answering service forwarded my message and I got a call within 15 mins or less. Rebecca was so nice and assured me that they would help me out. They put me on the list the next business day to replace the hot water heater. They called 1/2 hour before they were coming out to my home. The 2 workers were very knowledgeable and professional. They cleaned up after themselves which I was really happy about. In and out within 2 hours. So so happy , I couldn't have had better service, Cregger is very professional. Holly from the office even called me the day after the heater was installed to see if everything was ok? What? who does that nowadays? Well obviously Cregger does. I am now a new plumbing customer. They have totally nailed it on the head on how to attract customers and keep them. So very very very happy.

The only thing I will say is, they advertise they service Oakland County. Last I knew Clarkston was in Oakland County. I was informed they do not service that area. To Angies List credit, they were willing to speak to this provider regarding the service area discrepancy, but I declined. I did not feel that I would receive a quality service if the business didn't want to be there in the first place.

Response from Cregger Plumbing, Heating & Cooling
Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our company. While I am saddened to hear you are displeased that we do not service your area, rating us a "D" because of this is a bit ridiculous. We do service Oakland county. However, if you look at our service area, it shows certain areas of this very large county that we do not go to. The reason for this is we are located in Ferndale. Clarkston is almost 1 hour each way for us.Your community is gorgeous. While i would love to work there, it is simply to far for us to travel and provide timely service. This certainly has nothing to do with us not wanting to be there. Hope this helps clear things up for you. While i certainly do not appreciate the rating, i will remain Respectfully yours, Derek Mackie Master plumber

Great. Showed up on time. Serviceman worked really hard. As it turns out, the initial builders of our home did less than an adequate job with the plumbing for one of our upstairs bathrooms. Took much more time/effort than we anticipated to fix the issues. The plumber stayed until the job was complete.

They did a good job. It was a $600 job.
Description of Work: I had them out to take care of a rather large job.
I had noticed water dripping from Laundry Tub Faucet when in use for some time and finally decided to get it fixed. Because the faucet was original part (50+ year old house) I just wanted whole faucet replaced and not just repaired. Since I was going to have a plumber come out anyway I also wanted them to snake out main from basement clean out to city main sewer which had been last done 10 years ago. I have had to have the main snaked out twice before during my 30 years in this home and so considered this preventive maintenance (because last two times it was done only after I was starting to have issues). I researched Angie's List to find highly rated plumbers in the area and called main office of Cregger Plumbing to set up an appointment which they did for following week. They had told me a camera inspection of main could be done in addition to snaking it out (it would just take a little more time - no one had ever done a camera inspection previous times). On the day of appointment I received a call from office 1/2 hour before scheduled time just to let me know plumber was on his way - he arrived at scheduled time. After talking to plumber (Greg) about what I wanted done with the main he suggested first doing camera inspection then only snaking out if found an issue. No problems were found - I did find it very interesting to see the inspection process and watch on monitor. Just doing the camera inspection alone did save a bit of money over snaking it out as well. He then replaced the laundry tub faucet. After getting it installed and checking it out there was a slight leak at the base of new faucet spout which he corrected by replacing the O-ring. As he was washing out the tub he noted that the water was going down the drain very slowly. It had been like this for so long I really had gotten used to it but he told me something wasn't right - so I requested he fix whatever was wrong. He first tried just plunging it out from the sink but that didn't work. He then removed the trap beneath the sink and tried snaking out pipe going to our sewer line. However the snake kept getting snagged on the elbow right below the sink downstream from the trap. Since this was all original pipe (50+ years old) he cut off the pipe slightly above floor level and used a fernco coupling and installed all new PVC piping back up to laundry tub. When he had the old pipe out he cut it away to get a better look at the elbow that had caused issue and it was definitely almost completely blocked up possibly originally with a piece of a coat hanger which had then allowed debris to calcify around it over the years. I was very pleased with the quality of work that Greg did, he answered all my questions. I also appreciated that he covered his workboots each time he entered house and kept work area clean and cleaned everything up after job done. One interesting thing is that Cregger Plumbing works paperless. Greg had a tablet computer with him that I signed off on when he started job and when completed. He dictated description of work done to which was e:mailed to me as soon as job was completed. I will definitely plan to use Cregger Plumbing in future (and already have a job in 2nd floor bathroom in mind that will be done next year).

To my surprise and complete appreciation, Cregger agreed to honor a 'Deal' that I had previously purchased ($111 for $200 worth of services) and never used. This 'old deal' was well over a year old, but when I called, they said they had the same deal going on now, so they would honor my previous Angie's List deal. I did not expect this, and was very pleased. When I called to schedule, they were able to fit into my schedule, showed promptly, and did the work to my satisfaction. I've worked with this company before (different individuals) and been happy with the quality of their work. Though I only have one or two other 'plumbers' to compare to, I thought the price charged for this service was rather high. The charge was $265 to remove an existing garbage disposal, and replace it with an identical make and model (same plumbing and electrical set up, as well). The over-the-phone quote communicated to me was "starts at $150", so - because it was an identical replacement - I did not expect the cost to be over 75% more than the 'starts at' quote. When I mentioned this to the serviceman and said I'd like to call and ask, he said 'go ahead' - which I did. He also said 'well, we offer to come and give free estimates' - which I suspect is true - but I mistakenly thought the phone quote would be more accurate. I went ahead with the work because, as I said, I've worked with them before and been happy with the quality of their work. I will use them again (assuming they'll do work for me after this review...) but probably only with a 'price deal' to keep the costs a bit closer to where I think might be a somewhat more aligned with others'.

After a series of mistakes made on my part in an attempt to replace the old gross and corroded three knob shower handles that I had, I found myself in need of a pro in the department. I saw that Cregger had very high reviews, not too mention a coupon for $200 worth of worth for $110, so I chose to make the call. The time window that I was given was between 1:00-5:00, unfortunately for the guy who came out, he showed up at roughly 4:30ish. I felt bad for the guy because the amount of work that he had to do at that specific time of day was rough, because if anything were to go wrong and he needed to go to the store, they would be closed. I gave the go ahead after he said the work would be around 3-4 hours worth of work. This guy worked his butt off, and didn't cut corners or leave me feeling that he did shotty work. Around the one hour mark, he showed me what he had so far and i was surprised to see that all he had left to do was mount the handle and clean up. The guy turned a 4 hour job into an hour and a half one at the most, and even gave me some heavy duty plumbers tape for a leak that I was having because I used the cheap stuff that they sell at Lowes. I recommend Cregger to anyone who asks if I know a good one to choose, and plan on using them in the future again if i make any future screw ups.

Props to Kevin, the technician that serviced our plumbing issue. The woman at their office/dispatch was very polite, and her estimation on Kevin's arrival was accurate. He was mindful of our sleeping 10-week-old baby in the living room and did his very best to be quiet. Much appreciated there. Kevin was efficient at what he did and showed professionalism all around. If you ever need any type of plumbing service, I'd highly recommend Cregger Plumbing (and Kevin!). Thanks!

first visit by 2 guys who were inexperienced and not licenced plumbers. brought dirt into the house because they did not remove work boots. They ruined the faucet and needed to be replaced after they left. Owner came out to take a look and offered to do the plumbing for reduced fee of $100. I bought the new faucet for $159 and a plumber came out and did the install at 199...even though I mentioned the price quoted of $100 Be carefull with these guys....and demand a kiscenced plumber to do the work.

I think it was okay, but they never really fixed the problem. I think they were professional and on time, but I don't think they sent their best. Have used Cregger since we moved to this area - they were initially recommended by neighbors and their excellent Angie's List ratings were also encouraging. Family owned business that seem to care about people - customers and their employees. Quick/routine jobs may be a bit less expensive, but they're always competitive and the quality of service is worth it. For larger, more complex work - Creggers is the company I trust.

We had to have a new sump pump discharge line installed, as our existing line was clogged and water was coming out of the overflow. Since we were putting a new stamped concrete patio where the existing line was, and we want to avoid a similar issue in the future potentially forcing us to rip up our patio, we used this opportunity to relocate the discharge line from the back yard to the side of the house, where it goes underground and connects to the city water main. Cregger Plumbing excavated a new 4" sump line from the house to city water main. They core drilled a hole in the city water main and installed the new sump pump discharge line to code. They backfilled the hole after they excavated, but they did not compact the mound. The also cut and capped the old sump pump discharge line, and cemented the penetration holes in the basement wall. Cregger did a great job. We would highly recommend them.

Not good. It was about, I think, a week and a half after I purchased it that they came out and it was a miscommunication I would say because when I read it online it was like they were going to replace valve in the toilet and do a inspection of the plumbing in your house, which I thought he would bring a flash light and check the pipes in the basement sort of thing. He never offered to do any of that and when he came he came and worked on the toilet upstairs came downstairs and he said it's going to be like a $129 or something and I said I already paid the $39 online that this was for and he said he had to do extra work, he had put in some extra valve, or changed, I don't know what he did but he said he did something extra up there and he said he would take it down to a $100 for me because I wasn't expecting that. I ended up paying that. I wasn't happy with it because I thought the $39 was going to cover him coming out and then as he was leaving I said what about the house inspection?, he goes, oh yeah do you have any other problems?, and I said, well this sink leaks, you know, and I get this smell out of the bathtub. He went and looked and he said well it needs a new valve in there and he never went down in the basement to look at why the bathtub smell is going on, so I wasn't too happy with the results of it but I don't think I got what I was expecting to get. One other thing, I had called him out originally, I had taken the deal and called him out, because that toilet that I had him look at was making funny noises and I had to plunge it every other time that I would use it, I would have to plunge it. He came out and said the funny noises were where the valves were replaced and the water going through would stop the noises. It did stop the noises, it did not do anything, I still have to plunge it every other time I use it.

I discovered that the toilet in my guest bathroom was leaking. I read the reviews for Creggers and saw that they had a deal for $59.99 with a credit of $105 towards their services. I signed up for the deal and filled out the contact form. The woman who set up my appointment was very nice and they were able to come out within a day or two of my contact with them. Kyle came out for my appointment and he was nice but seemed a little inexperienced. The previous owner had used some sort of epoxy around the valve of the toilet and Kyle seemed to not be sure what to do to replace the valve. He was also concerned about some mold on the drywall behind the toilet. He told me that he couldn't make the repair until the drywall was removed. I explained that the drywall work couldn't happen until the leak was fixed. I asked it he could cut off the old valve and replace it without cutting into the drywall and he said no. He just seemed like he was in over his head. He was at my house for almost an hour but spent more than half the time out in the truck. When I asked him for suggestions on how to fix the drywall without fixing the leak first, the only option he had was to turn off the water the whole house until the repairs were done. He said that they could come back and hook up a new toilet for me but couldn't fix the leak at the time because of the epoxy and mold. The water restoration company came out later that day and told me that it should be able to be fixed without touching the drywall so I called Creggers back to see if another plumber could come out and look at it. The woman on the phone spoke with Kyle and after the conversation said it wasn't safe for them to touch the leak and I should call once the drywall had been removed. I called another company and they came out the next day and had leak fixed and the valve replaced within 30 minutes and didn't have to cut into any of the drywall. The plumber from the second company didn't seem to think the epoxy or mold was an issue at all. The plumber from Creggers just seemed inexperienced and not sure of what to do. Since they didn't complete any work for me I can't comment on the quality or price of their services but I would not use them in the future.
