It went fine. I paid some more because he said that it was not covered. So, I paid probably $70 or $80 more.

The plumber showed up and I told him to tell me BEFORE doing any work and before he charges me. I told him that I DID purchase a 200$ certificate from them but that I will need to know exactly what needs to be done before I used this certificate. I wanted to assess what I needed and possibly get a second opinion. I also told him that I will need a lot of plumbing done in my house when everything thaws so I was looking for a good plumber that was fair. He said okay to my terms. Then he went ahead and did a roto-rooter style cleaning of the mainline without first clearing this with me and he charged me the certificate, all without asking first as per my request. He refused to repair the broken line (originally why I called) for less than (get this) $15,000.00 dollars! That is FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. He mentioned jackhammers and breaking up my ENTIRE basement floor. I told him forget it, I'd rather pee in my yard from now on. LOL He took the entire 200 dollars for the roto-rooter thing he did and I washed my hands of this company entirely. Then I found an AMAZINGLY HONEST Handyman (who does own a jack hammer, but happily NEVER HAD TO USE IT) and for a whopping $150 dollars he fixed EVERYTHING, my floor is FINE and I realized that Cregger's are crooks that would just as soon rip a person off than actually build a relationship and earn a lifetime customer. A truly UNBELIEVABLE experience and NOT in a good way.
Description of Work: My toilet lines were frozen and broke into the basement. So every time we flushed, it was into the basement... ugh... so they showed up and told me that I needed to call a HAZMAT team before they'd do any work and they recommended a good one. So I called them and they cleaned up everything (around 500 dollars later) then Cregger's came out again to SEE (supposedly) FOR FREE exactly WHAT I needed done and how much it was going to cost.

Response from Cregger Plumbing, Heating & Cooling
Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to review our company. Your report is not entirely accurate however. We arrived at the home to find no heat, a cracked sewer line, no water, and were greeted by a young child. We asked to speak to you but you refused to come downstairs. We advised calling a restoration company to clean the rather large mess and we would return once we had better access to the broken line. We were called back and we returned to snake the drain that was blocked, thereby clearing the line. There was still no heat or water to the home as all the water lines and boiler had frozen. We did NOT give you any estimates whatsoever. Nor did we charge you anything above the coupon. Again, contact with you was minimal. We advised you to get heat on as quickly as possible so no further damage would be caused, which would of course, cost you money to repair. We left the premises and heard nothing further from you. I have no problem reaching out to customers in the event we do something wrong and earn a poor rating. Your report however, is filled with so many inaccuracies that I will not be doing so here. If you wish to discuss this further, you may call me anytime at 248-543-4317. Otherwise we remain, Respectfully yours, Derek Mackie Master Plumber

I really appreciated all the help from Tom & crew. They quickly unclogged the main sewer line and with the remaining time, they also helped to clean up a substantial part of the gross mess! It made it much easier for me later that night, cleaning up and sterilizing the area. The follow up inspection with the camera was also helpful- it confirmed there was no longer any blockage, but also revealed that about 20 ft out of the house where the blockage was originally cleared out, the grade on the line was slightly upwards, allowing some water to accumulate there.
Description of Work: Unclogged a blockage between my house and the main sewer line, helped contain the mess of sewage and followed up with a camera inspection to confirm the problem was fully resolved.

4804It went very well. The person that I had was the same person that performed the services at the church, which he did an excellent job. The kitchen sink leak was a rather small job and I did not think that it should have been that much, but the person performing the services told me that is their normal call out rate!

All went well. My bathtub drain is unclogged and I have a beautiful, and functional, new faucet. Good job. I recommend them to others. In fact, I already have.

We have two water heaters (both with tanks) and one of them failed. The ignitor comes on but fails to initiate the burner. I explained to him that I used to reset it by simply turning off the power and plugging again. But lately, that procedure was not working. Not knowing whether its the ignition controller that was bad or the solenoid that regulates the gas valve, I called the service for help. The technician showed up promptly (the office people were nice to let me know 30 min ahead of time to be at home by the time the technician arrived). He jostled a few connections, knocked on the vacuum switch (ours is power vent Rheem Water heater), knocked on the gas valve, and said that it would be either the ignition control unit or the gas valve but he wouldn't recommend spending a penny on the 22 year old water heater. I agreed that it was not probably a bad assessment and asked for options with tankless water heater to replace both water heaters. He seemed least bit interested in answering the questions except to say that the tankless water heater system are too expensive and hard to repair when they go bad. I told him that I'd rely on his experience and asked him to provide quotes for tankless systems as well as tank options for me to evaluate. He said he would but nothing so far. He was happy to collect his $95 for showing up and telling me that the water heaters are too old (as if I don't know!). I reasoned that if the water heater could be reset by simply unplugging the electrical connection, it must be something electronic (I told him that as well). I bought the same model ignition control unit for $100 (including shipping) and installed in less than 5 min. It works like a charm! I'm sure that the water heater is too old and may give out soon. But, I did not pay the technician to tell me what I know. He could at least switched the ignition control unit, test it, and charged me for the cost of unit (I already paid $95 for him to look around and changing the unit would have taken less time!). Instead, it seemed like he was just interested in selling me another tank water heater system. I don't think that was professional of a service technician. Updated on September 2, 2015: The owner of the company called and agreed with my assessment. He was very professional and courteous. We both agreed that the 22 year old water heater is probably living on borrowed time and the best thing the technician would have done is promptly presented all my options with appropriate quotes. The owner offered to refund the $95 I paid earlier. He himself was going to come and give us an estimate of different options. I don't like to see a good business get tarnished for one not so professional technician.
Description of Work: Just inspected the water heater to see the cause of failure.

Well, I purchased the deal through Angie's list, and in a matter of hours was contacted by the company, so kudos on the prompt response. And frankly, they've been very professional in following up on my concerns. However, it wasn't until after I was contacted (and after my card was charged) that I found out that they no longer service my area - less than 25 miles away. I'm not sure who gets the lion's share of the blame. I certainly couldn't find anywhere on the internet what cities they were willing to service and which they weren't. Is that my problem? The company? Maybe it's something Angie's list needs to work on.

an estimate of the cost was provided over the phone before an appointment was made for the service. The technician arrived on time and was advised of the specifics and history of the problem plugged drain before he started working. He proceeded to try unplugging the drain using plunging pressure to no avail and engaged the use of a powered snake with cutter to remove the blockage. The job was completed in about an hour and the drain was flowing normally when he was finished. The technician was very friendly, polite and methodical in the way he conducted the plumbing service. I would definitely use Cregger Plumbing in the future especially with the technician we had on this occasion. .

Our water heater sprang a leak and Cregger was able to get out the same day (in the evening) to replace it. Jason called to let us know when he was on his way and was very professional. The install was higher than the original price quoted as our previous water heater had been installed with a non-code vent (plastic, we're lucky the house didn't burn down) which Jason spotted right away. He told us what the additional cost would be, which seemed fair considering the amount of extra work and materials required. Despite the additional time required to take care of the vent to the outside, Jason just worked along diligently until the job was done. I would definitely call Cregger again for future plumbing needs.

After seeing the deal on Angie's List, we hired Cregger Plumbing to clean out the plumbing to the main sewer and perform a camera inspection of it. We recently bought the house and the pre-purchase video inspection of the plumbing showed roots in the outside portion of the plumbing that needed to be cleared out. The previous owner mentioned that they had used Muskett Plumbing for years to perform this annual maintenance, but we figured we'd go with a company from Angie's list. The first person the company sent out performed a camera inspection with outdated equipment. During the cleaning portion, he was unable to get through the U-trap, and commented on how the quality of the camera the company provided made it harder to tell what he was doing. When he was unable to get through after a few attempts, he called the main office for Cregger Plumbing and they told him to stop the job and leave. He forgot to shield the cleaning equipment, which ended up damaging the basement floor, and did not reseal the vertical cap for the waste water going from the first floor to the basement, leading to water leaking from it throughout the week. Since he had not completed the job, we asked for a refund. One of the owners of the company (Derek) called, and refused to refund, but said that they will send out somebody else a week later with the correct equipment and more experience, so that they could complete the job. The following week, two people came out and started the cleaning, without using the video-guidance this time. They added a metal drill piece to the end of their cleaning equipment, claiming that it was the extra equipment needed to get through the U-trap. Instead of cleaning through to the outside, they drilled down into the bottom of the beginning (straight part) of the U-trap, creating a hole and drilling into the mud beneath the metal plumbing pipe. They never pointed out that they felt there was any risk of damaging the trap with their equipment. I even asked because the drill-like attachment looked potentially destructive, but they said it was just the standard way to get past a trap and shrugged it off, not saying anything about likelihood of causing damage on an old trap. When asked about it, he started by claiming that the hole was already there and was what had caused the first person to be unable to get through, even though that contradicted what he had said earlier, and what the first person had said. When the contradiction was pointed out, he then claimed that there was a smaller hole there that they had enlarged, but when informed of the video inspection of the plumbing prior to the purchase of the house, he claimed that the pipe was weak, and that they created the hole, but the weak pipe would have broken anyway. He then informed us that they were going to charge us $2400 to fix the hole they created, and that the floor would need to be torn up to do so. They still refused to even refund the initial purchase. They sealed the access cap that was leaking this time with a joint compound, but it continued to leak. The people at their office claimed that they would come out and either reseal or replace the cap the following Monday, since they had broken the seal. The guy came back on that Monday and claimed that it could not be resealed and that he would replace the cap, this time adding that they would charge us $150 to do this (he told us this after removing the old cap that was at least partially working). Eventually the guy decided he would ?do us a favor? and accept the Angie's list coupon for the job they hadn't done (which we paid $160 for) in order to install the (about $20 retail) cap (took less than 2 minutes to install and check) while he was out on the call where he was going to reseal or replace the cap (which they had initially said they would cover). In summary, this company damaged my floor, had us wait for long windows of time each time they came out, charged the Angie's list voucher for installing a cap which was fine before they initially touched it, and damaged the U-trap which they wanted $2400 then fix. So our net result from trying to use this company is that we are out our original $160 without the service we paid for performed, and left with at least $2400 in damages (their quote doesn't include replacing the tile on the floor). At every stage of the process, they refused to refund our purchase. BUYER BEWARE!

Response from Cregger Plumbing, Heating & Cooling
Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to post this report. I would like to respond to many areas of this. You purchased our coupon to snake and camera your sewer system. When we arrived, we found a house trap, which can make placing a camera in the line difficult. We attempted to snake the sewer for you but could not get past the turn in the trap. Mud was pulled back on the cutter. We recommended returning with some different equipment to attempt to complete this process. We spoke on the phone, you agreed with our further attempts, and the next visit was scheduled. Before we arrived, you called about some paint on your floor that was scratched during the drain cleaning process. Considering the power of the equipment used to take care of your issues, floor scratches can happen, even when precautions are taken, which were in your case. Unfortunately, this is part of the risk of the process. I explained this to you and you agreed with our explanation. I sent another technician out for you at no charge to attempt to help you out. The second technician arrived and also attempted to snake your line. The "potentially destructive" part placed on the cable is a cutter. Which is standard protocol for drain cleaning. Without them, you will not remove roots. If your drain is broken underground, we have no way of knowing this prior to cleaning your drain. Claiming any company causes this by using industry standard equipment is completely wrong. After we determined you had a break in your trap, we installed a new clean out cap and provided an estimate to complete the necessary repairs. Refunds were not requested for the Angie's List coupon as work was completed. We even went above and beyond the scope of the coupon to try to help you out. This effort was obviously not appreciated. In summary, you have a broken drain that was existing. We made multiple trips to attempt to help you at zero additional cost. We snaked the line multiple times at no additional cost. We installed a new clean out at no additional cost. We did multiple camera inspections at no additional cost. We advised you this is an insurance claim in order to help you with cost. I am sorry these efforts were not enough to satisfy you. We hope you have a pleasant day. Regards, Derek Mackie Master Plumber
