We pre-paid $179 for a chimney cleaning and inspection. On the date of the appointment, I arranged to stay home from work to meet the service professional. After driving home and waiting for his arrival, Stan called less than an hour before the appointment to cancel due to high winds. I understood that he did not want to get on the roof in high winds and agreed to postpone the appointment by a few weeks to November 19. On the date of the new appointment, I once again arranged to be home from work to meet the service provider. An hour after he was to arrive, I called to find out why he was not here. After leaving a message, Stan called a few minutes later to say he was running behind schedule and would not arrive for another hour or so. Since Stan originally told me to plan for two hours, I blocked off enough time to comfortably accommodate the appointment. However, with Stan's two-hour delay in getting to my house, I had to call my wife to come home to meet him so I could make it to an afternoon work appointment. My wife met Stan when he arrived. He took one look at the chimney (she timed it at about three minutes) and announced that no work needed to be done. He promptly informed my wife that we owed him $179. My wife explained that we pre-paid and asked if Stan wanted to look on the roof (the original reason he claimed he needed to postpone our first appointment). He said he didn't need to look on the roof, but he would if she requested it. She said yes. Once again, it took about three minutes. After six minutes of actual work, Stan wrote a bill for $179. My wife reminded him that we pre-paid, but wondered if we really owed him anything since he was: a) Late twice, and b) Didn't actually do anything at all. He laughed, but agreed to knock $50 off the price.

We called Stan's to clean and inspect our fireplace/chimney because smoke was backing up into our house. He quoted a price for the service over the phone of about $189 however upon inspection he found other issues. At this point there was no reason to continue with the chimney sweep until we decided how to handle the other problems. He was courteous and prompt, calling ahead before coming to our house. After the inspection, he explained in detail what he found and how to correct the problems.

Fine during the first visit to gather information for the quote. However, never heard from him again.

Stan installed an stove insert for my folks. I had the same service performed in 2009 and it was professionally installed and the clean-up was excellent. I have used Stan for chimney sweeps annually since this installation and the service & price have been good. Never had any issues with clean-up.

Called Stan's and he came out in a timely manner and kept me informed in regards to time to expect his arrival. Performed inspection inside and outside of house. Went up on the roof and down the basement where furnace was vented through chimney to determine the problem. Used a special gun on chimney to determine where moisture was inside and oustide of house. He told me when he could perform work and arrived the day we agreed upon. Installed flexiliner inside and chimney, and tied furnace into chimney and put mortar to ensure fitting. Applied Crown Coat to outside of chimney that was above the roof line to ensure sealing against leaking.

He was honest and said, the fireplaces do not need cleaning. I checked it out on the internet and there was some favorable write-ups regarding him from his clients and I decided to give it a try. In terms of price, it was very reasonable for what he came out and did. In terms of responsiveness, he was back with me within half day of me leaving a message but it took a lot for him to get the appointment. I would use this company in the future again.

Stan came out, and my chimney was not in need of cleaning, but the chimney cap needed some cementing. He included the price of that with the price I paid for the inspection, since my chimney did not need cleaning. I was thankful for that. He was very nice and professional, and I would use him again.

We had scheduled an appointment, the gentlemen called to say that he was in the driveway waiting on us. We were out running errands and asked him to wait but when we arrived home he was gone. We never did actually get the work done.

I initially found Stan?s Fireplace & Chimney Service when I bought an Angie?s List special for a fireplace cleaning/inspection for $109. Stan?s Fireplace came out to my house and did a good job. Stan arrived on time for my appointment and got right to work and did the inspection and cleaning. Stan left everything clean and tidy. Stan's inspection revealed a few structural problems with my chimney. He explained the problems to me, along with how they could be remedied, providing a cost estimate to me at that time. Overall, it was a good first experience with Stan?s Fireplace. I am now updating my initial report to downgrade this company for its lack of professionalism and responsiveness. Within days of having do the cleaning/inspection, I contacted Stan to hire him to do two masonry jobs for me, including repairing the structural problems with the chimney he identified and also for him to patch a hole in the side of my house with new bricks (hole was the result of the removal of a dog door). I was in the process of moving and trying to rent out my house, so I explained to Stan that I needed the jobs completed in the next couple of weeks. Stan promised to come out the following Tuesday and complete the work. Well Tuesday came and went, and Stan never showed up or called. Since I did not hear from him, I called him. Stan apologized and said that he got stuck on another job but he would come out the following week and complete the work. Flash forward to the next week, and Stan was a no-show and never bothered to call. By this time I was getting anxious be because my house was on the market and I needed the hole repaired. I called Stan again, and he said he got busy on another job so he couldn?t get to mine. He suggested that I hire someone else to do the work because he was no longer able to get to my job, despite promising me that he?d have it done two weeks earlier. He then said that he?d call me the following week to check if I still needed him (in case I could not find anyone else). Not surprisingly, Stan never followed up with me again. The good news is that I used Angie?s List and hired a great handyman company, who came out the same day and did a great job on everything. I cannot recommend Stan?s Fireplace to anyone. He is unreliable and unprofessional. Stan completely blew off the work he promised to do for me, instead focusing on larger jobs. He left me in a lurch by repeatedly promising to get the work done ?next week? and then never showing up or calling.

He was very good, very knowledgeable and very professional. I had no problem with him. From the other estimate that I got, his price was double. The estimate was for $2000. He is going to do the cleaning of the chimney for me.

They were great. I spent about $200 on that service. They were nice and it was an icy-snowy day, but they came out anyways. They were on time and were really helpful.

Asked them to come out and clean our chimney as we had moved into a house that was 10 years old and the fireplace showed that it had some use. We did not know how much, but wanted to be safe and have the chimney cleaned. They came out and told us we did not need it, it had very little use and did not charge us anything. We live in Hamburg so it was a significant drive. Very happy to run across an honest contractor. He could have cleaned it and charged us for it, anyway, and we wouldn't have known the difference. I had compared prices in the area, and Stan's was the most reasonable at the time.

We didn?t use their services to get the work done because of their pricing. The estimate was kind of high, but the gentleman was very nice and he was very professional about it. We had a company who did the roof and they were fine. They gave me a quote for $2500. We got bids from several people for our roof. They were punctual. The person who came out explained everything very well. They were good about everything except for their estimate. I would definitely use their services again if price isn?t a major issue.

I like the fact that they were courteous and did good work.

He was prompt. He came out on time for the appointment. He was neat. Everything was picked up properly.

Both appointments went very well. Stan phoned each time to let me know the approximate time he would be at my house. He was very efficient and organized in doing his job. He showed me the problem with my gas valve. After installing the new valve, he demonstrated how to use it.
