Don arrived on time, gave me an estimate, went to purchase parts and then got right to the problem. I had a set amount in the bank to cover the repair I was terrified they were going to exceed the amount I had budgeted. times being as they are i couldnt afford to be gouged by some greedy company.Don finished the job then started to make out my bill. he was way off on the estimate,,,,,I had set aside 300.00 to pay for it he had estimated it could run as high as that yet he only charged me 187.00.,,,they charged me less! I guessed they would take me for every penny of the 300.00 I had available.im going to use them for all my future projects,,,fast ,dependable, reasonably priced and honest,,,i give them AAAAAA's,,,,also got my ANGIE DISCOUNT

This company is GREAT !! I originally called them to inquire if they could remove our cook top that had been glued down by our Builder...who does that ??!!...anyway..we wanted to know if this could be done without damaging the counter. Dale came out that same day and stated it could be done and wanted to know if we had any other items for repair. He looked at two other repairs and arrangements were made for the work to be completed before the new cook top was delivered. Don, the repairman came to our house 12/11/12 and was wonderful!!! He exceeded my expectations!!! Don also listened to my plans for a kitchen makeover in 2013 and stated that their company could handle the job, no problem and when we were ready to call and they would come out to measure and sit down with us to finalize our plans. I am so excited for the make over and can't wait to get started. Husband for a Day will definitely handle all of my future business !!!
Description of Work: They loosened a cook top that was glued to our counter by the builder; stablized a cabinet in the powder room and realigned a bathtub faucet.

Called up HFAD in late Nov and setup an appointment to discuss changes to master bathroom. On the date of the appointment I received a call from Dale that he was behind schedule. No worries and he arrived 30mins late, no big deal. Showed the master bath and various changes needed to shower, floor etc. he was very professional and courteous. Took some notes and measurements to present back with estimate. So, I'm thinking that's good, the reviewers from Angie's list were spot on for their solid reviews...... Well, that was Nov 27th, and as I write this review it is Dec 7th, and no feedback/estimate. So, that gets a solid F for a grade in my book if it takes almost 2weeks just to get an estimate. And no my master bath was not a full gut job, just needed to replace the shower and while at it we thought might as well try and upgrade the master bath to replace floor tiles, vanity etc. UPDATE: After some confusion in lack of response, I have re-rated HFAD. Evidently they had sent an email with a detailed quote but it may have gone straight into the junk folder. Informed them that as a best practice in future they should place a follow-up call with a customer advising them a quote has been sent. Have reviewed their excellent detailed quote and will be contacting them for master bathroom work/re-model
Description of Work: Estimate provided. Will be coordinating services in the next few weeks.

Response from Husband For A Day Inc
Hi Member, After reading your review, I found this highly alarming. I wanted to be sure we did not miss, therefore I checked our sent mailbox and I found that Dale sent an estimate to you on December 1st. I am wondering if we have the wrong email address or if it could have landed in your junk mail, that tends to happen. Please let me know, and I do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Overall the repairman was very professional and nice. He did not waste time and actually ran out of time as I had other actions that could have been completed, yet I had prescheduled the time. Excellent work habits!
Description of Work: Painted exterior side panels on the garage and windows. Also replaced some lights on the kitchen fixture which was somewhat hard to do yet it was accomplished and nailed a duct vent for us.

First individual arrived at appointed time. Made a few measurements and said he did not have the proper tools to do the job. He called 2 other men who were just finishing up another job close by and asked them to come over to finish what he had started. They arrived within the hour and had the job completed in 45 mintues. Should the need arise I would not hesitate in calling them again.

Handyman was quite late- over an hour- but he was pleasant and helpful when he arrived. We had bought a 2 hour deal and I thought all the work could be done within the time frame- but he was here for 4 hours. Each of the jobs was more complicated than expected- for example- our closet door was the wrong size so he had to cut it down to make it fit. And one job was not finished- not the handyman's fault- I had been sent the wrong part- so they have to come back to finish the job (and I have to pay all the service fees again). A bummer, but not the handyman's fault.
Description of Work: Light fixture put back up in the basement; two closet doors hung and tried to have stop top burners installed.

I called Husband because of its consistent A ratings on Angie's List. I used Husband's discount promotion from Angie's List. It's been a month, but I think I called on Monday and arranged for service on Wednesday. Don arrived promptly at 9:00 a.m. as scheduled. He is very friendly and professional and was thoughtful enough to place protective cloth on my floors in the areas of service in order to prevent any damage. While removing two rows of old tile from my bathroom floor, I noticed that the old wood under the tiles around my toilet was moist and extremely damaged. I thought I had to replace the floor, but researched online and found that a carpenter can cut out the old, damaged wood around the toilet only and install new wood in its place. 1. Don removed the toilet and cut out the damaged wood, and replaced it perfectly. At the last minute, I asked Don if he could install my new tile in the toilet area before reinstalling the toilet. He replaced the wood as requested and agreed to install my new tile under the toilet so that I would not have to worry about it. 2. I had an 80" x 30" opening and wanted to install a prehung door. For some reason, Lowes and Home Depot currently sell only 80" prehung doors. I needed a shorter door (78") to fit into the 80" opening. I purchased a solid prehung wood door from Lowes and Don cut it down to size and installed it in minutes. It fit perfectly! Thanks for being so professional and friendly.
Description of Work: Remove damaged wood from around toilet and replace with new wood, install prehung door.

They showed up on time and they emailed the estimate to me a few days later. We set up a date for someone to come out and fix the sheet rock and grout. He showed up on time and worked very hard and was very professional. The next day the shower door people showed up and measured everything and then they had to order the shower door. Once the door came in, it was installed. We had a minor problem with the door leaking but the shower door company came out and fixed it immediately. They were also very professional.
Description of Work: They replaced the sheet rock in the bathroom by the shower that was damaged due to the shower door leaking. They also took old grout out on tile floor in the bathroom and replaced it. They replaced the shower door.

Called and scheduled an appointment for a quote on a bathroom remodel. The person who answered the phone was professional and friendly. She said the soonest appointment would be after 6 pm on Friday. I accepted the day and time. When Friday arrived, nobody ever showed up (not even a phone call to say they couldn't make it). Very disappointed. Would not recommend.

I'll preface this by saying that I purchased 2 hours of handyman time from Angies List for $99. I had a great experience with HFAD even though the contractor showed up 20 minutes after the scheduled start time with no courtesy phone call. The work performed was exactly to my liking and was performed with great attention to detail. The closet doors wouldn't go in as-is so I decided to hire HFAD to install them for me. The doors went in after an hour of trimming and reinforcing and look great. I'd definitely recommend HFAD and will keep them in mind for future projects of my own.
Description of Work: I had 2 bi-fold closet doors installed. The doors had to be modified to fit the jamb.

Overall good experience. Dale came out to do the estimate and had the results emailed to us on the date he gave us. Doug and Don did the work. They were all very professional and I had no problem having them work at the house when I was at work. If there was any problems or I ask them to do something, it was done. They were also accommodating, since they were working on the only bathroom in the home, each night I had, "plumbing". They did a good job, to get my home ready to sell. I just wish I had the work done sooner, so I could enjoy it longer. I would definitely hire them again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Redid the bathroom - removed old fiber glass bath\shower enclosure. Installed new tub, tiled wall in tub area, new toilet, vanity, sink, floor, medicine cabinet, repaired ceiling, new exhaust fan & light, fixtures, painted walls. Kitchen - new floor and new oak tops on half walls Repaired front & back door jams - painted, new insulation, lock, installed new screen door Replaced wall outlet, checked insulation in corner of house, and finished siding dog house

We met with Dale and were very impressed. He was punctual, professional, and personable and submitted a highly detailed invoice to us within 48 hours. Initially he and the rest of the HFAD team were responsive to emails, however, it became difficult to connect with them to the point that Dale offered us a $100 credit due to this unresponsiveness before HFAD started the job on August 10. We were told the work - removing and replacing the tile, using epoxy grout (one of Dale's suggestions that impressed us), reinstalling the shower door (another HFAD suggestion), and refinishing the ceiling (another HFAD suggestion), and replacing the small piece of lattice work, would take one week. Work seemed to be progressing well enough, but when the job was finished (Friday afternoon) and we saw the final state of the project, we immediately knew we had to call HFAD and have them return. The ceiling was in a worse condition than before HFAD "repaired" it (as corroborated by Dale when he viewed the work for himself and ultimately removed the charge from the invoice), the toehold in the shower was several inches lower than request, several nail holes remained in the wall where the dust barrier had been nailed down, the shower head was installed several inches too high (we had requested that it remain in its current location), and the shower door was in a pitiful state. The ceiling immediately over the shower was covered in tiles, despite our communication with HFAD that we did not want any changes to that portion of the ceiling. Worse, when Dale came and viewed the work, he discovered that his crew had not used epoxy grout as we had discussed, but standard shower grout. The entire shower had to be regrouted in addition to the other work. In short, a significant amount of work had to be redone in September that was done incompletely or incorrectly in August. Furthermore, even after HFAD returned to correct the August work, we were not 100% satisfied. For example, the nail holes remained in spite of the fact that we requested the second crew to fill them (this request was made to Dale in person on August 23 and was left, in writing, on September 10). Additionally, we were made to feel that we were causing the company a great deal of trouble and inconvenience by not agreeing to leave the incorrect work in place (Dale offered a credit of $100 or $150 if we would agree to leave the toehold in the location where he August crew placed it, for example). To add insult to injury, the invoice that Dale left in September was woefully inaccurate. For example, it did not include the $100 credit Dale had previously offered us, but it did include a $385 charge for regrouting the shower - despite the fact that this work only had to be redone because of HFAD's error. No adjustments had been made to the sales tax line, either, despite the fact that we purchased many of the taxable items (ceramic tiles, shower door, shower valve, etc.) ourselves. Ultimately, I had to revise and recalculate the total and then contact HFAD to let them know the final amount we believed we owed. Overall, the entire experience was disappointing. We chose HFAD for both its apparent reputation (specifically, many positive review on Angie?s List as a reputable company that delivers good work and customer service), as well as for the creative and custom ideas we were told would be possible upon our first meeting. Unfortunately, many of these ideas did not come to pass. For example, while we were discussing the project with Dale, he specifically suggested refinishing the bathroom ceiling, where we had previously patched the drywall. However, the initial work left the ceiling in worse condition than before we hired HFAD and Dale quickly backtracked regarding the quality of the repair he felt would be possible. In the end, the work that is complete is good. The shower looks good and the workmanship is of good quality. It is not a process that went particularly smoothly, unfortunately, and we did not end up with everything we were expecting when the project began, but ultimately we are left with an improved shower.
Description of Work: Ultimately, the services performed were the removal and replacement of ceramic tiles in our stand-up shower and the replacement of a piece of lattice on the front porch. At the time we hired HFAD, we planned to have a bathroom door installed and a section of bathroom ceiling refinished. Due to a miscommunication between HFAD and us, the door was not installed. The work on the ceiling was unsatisfactory and the charge was removed from the final invoice.

We are first-time homeowners who just bought a foreclosed home. The marble tile shower floor in the master bath was all cracked and coming up, and the bottom row of marble tiles on the wall were stained and filthy (probably from standing water since the drain was completely clogged). We brought in five companies to assess the situation and provide estimates to repair it. All of the other companies were overly concerned with matching the existing marble tiles and recommended redoing the whole shower area (at least). They claimed it would look terrible if the tiles weren't a great match, and they didn't want to do something that wouldn't look great in the end. Then Husband For A Day took a look at it and actually focused on the real problem -- the shower floor. They provided an estimate to rebuild the shower pan plus a few other tasks, and it was a fraction of what others were estimating. We were very impressed with their level-headed assessment and reasonable attitude about what should be done. Going into the work, they said they could take down the existing row of dirty wall tiles, clean them, and put them back up. We were skeptical since everyone else claimed you could never get them off without breaking them. While we hoped HFAD was right, we were expecting to need new tiles. It turned out that the wall tiles did break when coming off the wall, but luckily we found a pretty good match after a weekend of searching. (I'll note here that my wife and I had to find, pick out, purchase, and bring home all of the tiles for this project ourselves, but that was actually our preference.) The first thing they did when arriving to start work was tape down sturdy brown paper all the way up to the master bathroom to protect our wood floors and stairs. This obvious respect for our home impressed us. In fact, during the whole process, Dale, Doug, and Matt were all very pleasant and respectful. While they were working in the bathroom, another contractor cracked a marble tile in our fireplace hearth. We consulted with Dale, and he offered to fix the hearth for free (and HFAD didn't even break it)! They were also very accommodating with the grout in the kitchen. My wife and I had trouble picking the right color, and Doug changed the grout twice due to our indecisiveness, even making an extra trip to the hardware store at the end of his long day. He did this without any hint of frustration and at no additional charge. I was very impressed with their focus on customer satisfaction. When all the work was done, we were very satisfied. We noticed a few minor things that were not perfect, but considering they are a handyman service, not tiling artisans, the work was very good. Based on their quality work, quality character, and reasonable prices, I recommend Husband For A Day.
Description of Work: The main part of this work was rebuilding the shower floor in the master bathroom and replacing the bottom row of marble tiles along the shower walls. This included: * Removing the existing damaged shower floor * Removing the bottom row of wall tiles * Installing new shower pan liner * Installing and shaping shower floor concrete * Installing new marble tile floor * Installing new marble tiles along bottom of walls They also performed this other work: * Re-caulk corners in guest shower/tub * Re-caulk corners of tub deck in master bath * Hang new shower curtain rod in guest shower/tub * Replace broken tile in fireplace hearth * Replace grout along back of kitchen counter at backsplash

Dale, the owner, paid a visit to look at the bathroom and to review our requirements before offering a bid. The bid was extremely detailed. I called and/or emailed a few times to clarify items and every conversation, whether with Dale or with someone in the office was informative and courteous. Not once did I feel that I was asking an unreasonable question. The bid was a very fair price, and reviews on Angie's list were quite favorable for comparable jobs, so we decided to have them remodel our bathroom. Matt and Chris demolished the bathroom and installed everything. They were prompt, courteous, responsive to my few changes during the process, and extremely neat. Not only did they clean up everything every evening, but they vented out the second story window during the demolition process so there was a minimum of dust in the house. They came back once to look at the sink drain, which was working alright by then, and determined that a leak on the ceiling was coming from the fan, not associated with their work. They caulked around the fan on the roof and didn't charge for that. Their workmanship was very good and the bathroom looks beautiful.
Description of Work: This was a complete bathroom remodel They tore everything out of the main bathroom. They removed the soffit in the shower and put in a new ceiling. They installed a new tub, vanity, faucets, shower door, porcelain flooring, and ceramic tile in the shower. They re-installed the toilet, lighting, and ceiling fan, all of which were relatively new. They painted the walls, ceiling and doors.

I couldn't have done a better job myself, and I'm pretty darn good!I have owned and operated my own business for more than 35 years, I can assure you, it is a real pleasure to tell someone what you want, walk away, and not hear from them again until job is done. I believe the only time we spoke, while work was in progress, was when I asked if he would like a coffee or soft drink (he declined).I cannot help but feel that those who have had a bad experience with "Husband4ADay", have either had some form of miscomunnication, of have been asking for something not possible without extreme expense. After all, anything is possible, if you have the cash to pay for it!stay safe Mike GowS2A SecurityFaussett Rd.Howell, Michigan
Description of Work: I bought the $99.00 package. Needed some woodwork done. This is not something I can not do myself, I'm actually very good at it, I just don't feel like doing it any more. The office contacted me, quite soon after I submitted request for work, we set a date and time for workman to show up. Matt contacted me about 45 minutes before scheduled time, asked if he could come a little early. "Absolutely!", he was here 15 minutes later. I had not been completely clear in explanation of work required, so he was walking in, somewhat, blind. I pointed out what I needed, and what it had to be used for, he asked several question, clarifying his understanding of my requirements, made several suggestions which I agreed with, and went to work.Let me first say: Matt showed up on time (actually, with my concurrance, a little early). He was dressed neatly, I am quite sure we have all had the experience of a worker showing up looking as though they had slept in their car. He was clean, and removed his shoes before walking through house. He was courtious, and well spoken. He knew what he was talking about. He didn't try to stretch the job, or suggest more costly approach. It became obvious, as work progressed, that we both thought along the same lines, and he was doing exactly what I wanted. He asked (when finished) if this is what I wanted? I replied in the affirmative. Job had taken 1 hour longer than the time I had paid, including any clean up and initial work line up and description (which he didn't charge for)I would, and in fact am, going to use them again, and would recommend them to any person looking for this type of work.

We had an excellent experience with Dale and his sons beginning with the actual quote and ending with a follow-up visit after the work was finished. Each individual who entered our home was polite and respectful. They worked quietly and quickly. Each day before leaving they cleaned up the day's mess which they did an outstanding job of keeping confined to the immediate area they were working in. About a week after the work was completed we noticed a small drip in the pipe under the sink. Dale was very responsive and sent one of his sons to fix it the next day. Again, our experience with Husband 4 a Day was wonderful! We are pleased with the finished work and am glad we used their service.
Description of Work: Removed existing tub/enclosure, toilet, and sink top. Installed new tub with ceramic tile and glass doors, new toilet, and new sink/countertop. Replaced cracked ceramic tiles on floor. Also replaced a backdoor.

Called about replacing rotted wood around a gable vent on second story side of house. The vent was covered and no longer needed, but the trim and T-1-11 around the vent had rotted out. Husband for a day called back the same day and set up an appointment for an estimate within 1 week. Dale came out on the scheduled day and time, reviewed options on fixing the issue, provided a fair quote and preformed the work 1 week later. Husband for a day is a very professional company and I was pleased that they came to the Novi/Northville area from Fenton.
Description of Work: Replaced rotted gable vent and siding with two sheets of new T-1-11 siding on second story of house.
