The guys did a great job and even talked to Loew's to make sure that their work was sufficient. I will be calling them back for new projects.
Description of Work: They removed old linoleum and replaced any subflooring so that Loew's could install laminant in our entry hall and vinyl in the laundry room and steps to the basement. The linoleum was glued to the steps and was very difficult to remove.

Jim and Chris are the mechanics that helped me out. We had three pages of items for them to repair. We're almost done with everything. These guys are very professional and responsible. I've had a lot of problems with reliable contractors in the past and Jim & Chris has done everything I've asked them to do. I also added on items to the list along the way and they have tackled everything with a smile. Can't say enough good things.

I filled out a request for quote using their website. I was contacted the next day to set up an appointment for someone to come out and evaluate the window to do a quote. I received the quote back in a few days and after a few emails, we realized that the quote reflected replacing the window entirely, as opposed to just repairing the broken glass. We cleared up the scope of the work that needed to be done and I was contacted soon after to schedule a date for the window to be repaired. The handyman was very punctual (both for the evaluation for quote and for doing the repair). They had assumed 2 days to get the job done, but he was able to finish it in about half of a day. The repair was done well and he was very professional during the entire process. I would definitely use them again.

Absolutely unprofessional. We hired them to do several jobs and although I work at The Home Depot and have knowledge I have a disability. So I hired them to do the work and expected them to come up with ideas to improve our homes curb appeal. We hired them to do work on a porch rail, street number sign, deck, garage door, and to correct the original builders mistakes on the front porch and the fascia trim etc. On the inside we hired them to tile the bath, install a tub/shower handle, a light in the closet, a bath fan and stairs. We met with them and discussed the work. As for the street sign porch and staircase we discussed the fact that I didn't want what everyone else had, I could do that myself. I wanted ideas that only years of experience could come up with. I wanted the wow factor and although I do pretty well, I didn't want it to look like I did it so to speak. He assured me he would have some great idea's. He even suggested putting the slate tile above the mopboards. I thought that would have looked great. So we hired them I knew for the most part what materials were needed. We never got a list of materials needed. We called and made a final appointment with Dale the owner to come and finalize things. This was the Sunday before work was to be started. He did not show. On Monday work began, the front rail was done very well, the light in the closet was good, although and opportunity for him to earn more occurred as the new fixture was smaller and the ceiling now needed painted. The bath fan was done well also. We had paid 1000.00 half of the total to get things started. The next time the trim was put on but not stained and no room for the pergo we were putting in we had asked that space be left for the flooring to float under the trim. They put it down to the floor. The tile was not put above the trim either. They had tiled and did not use the tile board we had for them. This could be crucial to the life of the tile. We had also by accident bought the wrong grout, they went to the store and bought a different adhesive although we had bought some. So they bought different adhesive but used the wrong grout. They could have bought the right stuff since they had gone to the store anyway. I again work at Depot and could have brought home whatever was needed. So they grouted wrong and had several spots that had fallen out by the time I got home. They also left grout smeared on the walls, trim, plumbing and so forth absolutely no clean up. The trim had been stained but had not been polyurethane. They came back and took it up and although I put at least 6 coats on they had it done in 3 hours. They then put it at the height we asked them to do in the first place. The garage door had been fixed but that only lasted a month. It does not open. The street sign we asked them to hard wire into the garage above the garage door and decorate with some sort of vinyl trim (they said they would come up with something cool) So we did not have the materials. They simply screwed in place and threw some batteries in it. The cost for that was $149.00 for five minutes of work. Also on the porch gable they just finished the unfinished portion from the builder. Two 6x5 pieces of vinyl trim. The cost of this is around 300.00 this was their idea of curb appeal. When I contacted Dale is simply said "sorry were not up to your standards," I expected we will be back to do it right. The staircase his "idea was the same door trim that everyone uses," So we never got those materials. The back deck we bought restore deck stain and paint. We had two boards that I knew were in need of repair, I thought the experts would tell me they need replaced or they would just screw them down. the painted it with the restore and left them sticking up. They also painted some of our siding. We had started painting the railing white and had that paint. They used the stain that was for in between the boards on the railing. We now have blue railing, and they complain that we didn't have the paint for in between the boards, well not now they used it for the railing. I'm a terrible painter and can get it on the siding myself. I finished the bath and keep finding issues. We thought the plumbing was done right. My son pulled the handle to turn on the shower, and the whole handle moved. they had globs of silicone on it, they did not put any pipe straps or clamps etc, to prevent the plumbing from moving. Also they requested another piece of trim to finish bath, on the side opposite the toilet. behind the toilet they pieced together the trim, figuring it would be hidden and I wouldn't notice. If I had to pick up an 8' piece of trim then it would have done both sides. They also tore the drywall and newly painted wall when they removed the trim. I have contacted them and asked for 225.00 of the 1000.00 we paid. He gave me a story about not having the materials. We had what we knew was needed as for the rest we have it now except for the things he never gave us his great idea's for. It's 200+ dollars and although I cannot afford to loose it. I am able to give and honest account of this companies inconsistent and sloppy work. He has been rude with every communication as he has the money and now can run. I have also finished the lighted street sign and get many compliments on my work. The bottom line is if your hiring this company to do work you don't think you can do yourself, don't because a monkey could do the quality of work they do. Don't expect common courtesy, professionalism, or quality. They will ask for half up front and really don't care if they finish the work. Knowing that you will probably not pursue small claims. He even tells you his lawyers have been informed as if they would be in small claims court. So expect threats from them. I can be reaches at addylars@hotmail.com if you would like photo's or to see the e-mails as proof of our losses. I have photo's, e-mails and witness's.
Description of Work: Very unprofessional, rude, and poor work. This is worth reading. I'm not disgruntled and venting, this is how things happened.

Response from Husband For A Day Inc
At Husband For A Day we do all we can to provide our customers with outstanding service. We treasure our reputation and appreciate the format that Angie’s list provides our customer with unbiased reviews and recommendations. Many businesses will not join a format that has the potential for a disgruntled customer to make slanderous comments on line. Our motto is “we do what you say”. We came to adopt this motto by listening to our customers complain about contractors telling them what they want or don’t want. Of course there are times when they want guidance with design or building codes, but for the most part it is possible for them to have what they want. We do all we can to work with our customers to find a way to get their desired results. We have a great reputation with our approximately 1000 customers per year. We have more reviews on Angie’s list then any competitive contractor in our categories. We have earned the super service aware for three consecutive years. Only a small percentage of businesses earn this aware. Our employees have earned more than 100 A grades in our reviews. We stand on our reputation! Unfortunately on rare occasions we have a customer we cannot make happy. Fortunately this happens only once in a thousand.

They came out pretty immediately. He wanted to up-charge me. He wasn't interested in doing it in the amount of time that I had purchased. I felt like it was kind of a waste of money because he came out here and was looking around for like an hour and didn't do anything and then gave me this really high quote. It just wasn't good for me. He was very polite. He was a nice guy.

Jim was a perfect gentleman. He arrived on-time (actually a few minutes early). He quickly sized up the job, then went to get the correct type of weatherstripping. He easily replaced the laundry room door weatherstripping. It looks great, and is no longer drafty. Not unexpectedly, he had a tough time with the front entry doors. Our home is over 18 years old, and the entry door frame is not square. The threshhold has bowed. It is higher in the middle, making it difficult to properly close the doors. He worked very hard, making several adjustments, to get the new weatherstripping installed, and to get the door to close properly. It now closes snuggly, and it is no longer drafty. Before Jim left, he gave me some worthwhile advise regarding questions I had about guest bathroom remodeling.

Although my ideas for moving laundry room to first floor weren't all possible, I was very pleased with the interaction I had with HFAD. The owner arrived early, spent a lot of time measuring and asking questions, and sent estimate in less than two days. I decided to hold off on project since it would require giving up some features that I want to keep. I won't hesitate to contact HFAD for future work, though.

The company representative arrived promptly and took careful measurements of the bathroom we are remodeling. He was polite and pleasant and took care of things very professionally. He sent me an estimate promptly as promised. However, the estimate seemed very high, and on closer inspection, they were charging for things we already had - which I told him we had. Also, some of the costs appeared very inflated - especially the costs for removal of the existing material and dumping of those materials. In the end, I hired someone who handled the project very quickly and professionally at a reasonable price. (About 1/2 of the costs estimated by Husband for a day)

We had sollicited bids from four contractors, including three from Angie's list, and chose Husband for a Day. Not only was their bid lower, but their estimate was very detailed, and we were impressed with Dale Leighton's knowledge, professionalism, and pleasant manner. The kitchen design was worked out with Home Depot in Burton, Michigan, from which cabinets and granite countertops were purchased. We separately purchased a sink, faucet, and tile ourselves from other locations. HFD did the tear-out and the installation of all but the countertops. The work began with the tear-out on August 20th, and the kitchen was completed October 14th. Unavoidable delays, while inconvenient, were due to intervening measurement, fabrication, and installation of granite countertops by another company sub-contracted by Home Depot. The technicians, Chris and Jim, who were assigned to our project were simply great to work with. They were extremely competent with electrical, plumbing, tiling, and installation issues. They always arrived promptly, worked steadliy, and cleaned up the work area before leaving each day. They were also consistently pleasant and cooperative, and made several helpful suggestions regarding a few unanticipated issues. We could not be happier with the results. The total price above is a sum of $10,240 to Husband For a Day for installation, plumbing and electrical, $9,845 to Home Depot for cabinets and Granite, and $2168 for materials we purchased (tile, sink, faucet) We are pleased to recommend Husband For A Day to others considering any remodeling work.

The details begin with the call for information which lead to making an appointment. Everything was explained to me; pricing and expectations. The evening prior to the appointment, I was called to go over my list of handyman to dos. The crew (2), Matt and Wade, arrived on time and quickly went over the list and went about the work, delegating amongst themselves, the course of the work detail. Matt had to go to Lowe's to pick up things that I had not in order to complete the kitchen light project. He was very exact, asking questions as he went along to make sure the placing of the fixtures was correct. Wade went about his work quietly, pleasantly, effectiently, and neatly. He did the plumbing work, hung the picture, bathroom fixtures and assisted with the kitchen lighting. When Matt attempted to reprogram the remote for my bedroom fan, he found that the fan was installed improperly. Citing how it should have been installed improperly. Matt gave me a stern warning of the danger and that the fan could EASLY FALL, potentially, causing physical harm!!!!! Thanks Matt!!!!!!!!!! I will make another appointment for Matt and Wade to return and properly install the fan and to look at my leaking roof.

We were happy with the quote so we contracted with them to do our bathroom at the end of the month. As soon as they can get to it. The quote itself was very straight forward, business like.
