In case after case (we have been going back repeatedly or several years) Steve has provided background on the piece itself as well as the best steps to bring it into excellent current service. Whether antiques or simply "well used" the restorations make it possible to show off items that have either family importance with us or cultural history with confidence and pride. On several occasions I would have after-thoughts about items and details I had failed to mention or cover in the scope of work. In each and every occasion Steve would chuckle, acknowledge the importance of the item, and tell me how he had handled it ... asking "How does that sound to you?" Without exception he had gone beyond my own insight and given me a fresh new standard for quality, his own. It's a privilege to work with Steve and Jim!

After getting several estimates I decided to go with Old World Refinishing. I had emailed a photo and they got back immediately with a cost well below the others. I delivered the table to them and was impressed by their years of experience and desire to do a quality job. I was told 4 weeks to complete but explained I needed it sooner. They said they would do their best and I was not disappointed! Within 2 weeks I received a call that my table was ready for pickup. It looked amazing, brand new and the perfect stain. I would definitely recommend Old World Refinishing for their expertise, courteous and prompt service , and their very reasonable pricing.

Steve was able to give us an estimate via email by sending him several pictures of our dining table, chairs, and buffet. The estimate seemed fair so we scheduled to have the work completed including pick-up and delivery. Steve and Jim arrived were always punctual and professional and took great care with our furniture and our home. We wanted to change these furniture pieces from a dark brown to a red brown. The dining table was old and had significant gouges, etc... The buffet was old and had a candle burn on the top. The buffet was a also a fairly formal piece that we wanted to refurbish into something slightly more casual. Working with Steve, he was able to get a great understanding of what we wanted and he hit the mark! Both pieces came back looking much better than we ever imagined. Despite the pieces being constructed of different types of wood, they were able to finish them to coordinate like they were made to go together. Unless you can afford very high end furniture (and maybe even if you can), we would strongly recommend finding older, well-made quality furniture and engage Old World to refinish them. The end result cost about the same and be far better quality than any new moderate to low priced furniture you can buy today. We strongly recommend Old World and will be using them again soon!

I was quoted a very reasonable price for repairing my diningroom chair. I was advised that it might take up to a month to complete the repair due to increased business; however, my chair was repaired within 1 1/2 weeks after drop-off. I am very pleased with the workmanship and professionalism of this company.

I took my grandmother's rocking chair (58 year old solid Maple chair) to Old World Refinishing. I could not be more pleased with the service I received. The chair was in _rough_ shape. It was in such bad shape I was embarrassed to bring it into their shop, remnants of painters tape dangling from it, a painting attempt gone awry. I was quoted $290, which was significantly less than I was expecting given the condition of the chair. With me, I brought the drawer from a chest of drawers that I own and asked if they could match the (unknown) wood stain, which they agreed to. I got a call after about 2 weeks that my chair was ready. When I walked in, I almost didn't recognize the chair it looked so amazing. They were able to match the stain _exactly_. I asked what color the stain was exactly and was told that it was custom made from a number of different stains to match my drawer. Now, the chair that rocked my father will be in my nursery to rock my baby come December. I will be returning to Old World Refinishing for all my family heirloom furniture.

The chairs of my late parents' beloved Drexel dining set (circa mid 1950's) were becoming progressively wobbly. My son and daughter-in-law are the current owners, and I was sad to learn one of the chairs was now broken. Through Angie's List I selected Old World Refinishing, based on their ratings, reviews and location. I called to learn if these chairs were repairable. Steve, one of the owners, gave me the fee per chair and repair time estimate. He assured me that the chairs were repairable, and that gluing would make them stronger than ever. I was doubtful about the broken chair. He explained the broken dowels would be drilled out and replaced, then glued. I was convinced. I brought the first two chairs in, and Steve gave me an education. He noted that the felt pads recently placed on the leg bottoms acted as brakes, not glides, on the wood floors. He didn't try to sell me on refinishing the chairs, which I had decided against. He was cheerful and professional. The smallish office/ front room, by the way, was tidy and well-lit. Over a two week period I left six chairs. Steve always greeted me immediately, helped bring the chairs into and out of the shop, was always respectful, personable and professional. The chairs are back at my son's house in Ferndale, and he can't believe how sturdy they are. Steve's repair estimate was right on, as was the repair time (about a week each time). I received a phone call each time the repairs were completed. Why go anywhere else? Old World Refinishing takes pride in the work they perform. They are skilled, professional and charge a fair price.

All I can say is WOW! This is the second time I have used Old World and I can not say enough about what wonderful work they do!! Around 1987 I received an old (circa 1950 - 1970) hand me down Leopold desk that was solid walnut. (Each and every desk was proudly made by hand in the USA!) I was told that it came from the offices of the now defunct Arthur Anderson accounting firm. As an aspiring accountant, this really appealed to me so I happily picked up the desk that was going to be taken to the curb if I didn't take it. At the time, it was already quite beat up, but I loved it and saw its potential. The years went by and it was used and abused. Then in 2008 I had to put it in my garage due to the arrival of a new son and limited space. There it stayed until 2012. When I pulled it out, I was heartbroken to find that my beloved desk had suffered even more indignity. The varnish on the top had completely eroded due to the changing temperatures and apparent leak in the garage. I believe there were areas of some sort of mold in it too. I honestly thought it was a lost cause. But, rather than toss it I called Old World to see if it could be refinished because they had already done a fabulous job on a very beat up rocking chair the prior year. They came out and picked it up and said, "yes! We can do this". I received my desk back today and I am so so so so very happy with the results. It looks brand new! (This is not an exaggeration in the slightest.) It is back to what I image was its old grandeur that I never witnessed. The drawers now slide in and out without sounding like a pack of wild dogs and they polished the hand-pulls and hardware as well. And the best part is they matched the desk to my newly purchased hutch, credenza and lateral file. In short....they do FABULOUS work. I am so glad I had my old desk refinished instead of purchasing the desk that would have come with the credenza/ hutch. You will not be disappointed.

Same as above Overall, I am more than satisfied.
Description of Work: I have a gravity chair that came apart at the joints. These folks no only glued the joints, they also installed metal braces for support It was amazing how strong the chair became. The did all of this at less than the estimated price. They finished it ahead of when promised and I was extremely happy with their commitment to customer satisfaction and their timely and professional treatment

We had a 30-year old chair we were reupholstering at Carol's Upholstery in Novi. Carol's works with Old World Refinishing in Farmington for furniture that needs to be rebuilt, glued, and/or stained. Carol's picked up the chair at our home, removed the existing upholstery, and then sent it to Old World. We met with Steve and he said that our chair checked out fine for construction; he then helped us pick a stain color. Within a month, the chair was completed and then sent back to Carol's to be reupholstered. We are extremely pleased with both companies and highly recommend them.

Old World Refinishing does an amazing job! First of all, Steve and Jim provided pick up and delivery for my project. How neat is that? The quality of their work was phenomenal. The drawers all slide beautifully now. The piece appears straight and even the drawer locks work. They finished the piece inside and out, which was a very pleasant surprise to me and took care of the "antique odor." The top of the chest is so perfect, it appears and feels almost new. Steve and Jim were very pleasant, helpful, professional and did an incredible job. I HIGHLY recommend this company and will certainly use them again.
Description of Work: Steve and Jim refinished a Victorian chest of drawers that had been in a cottage with no air conditioning in the summers and no heat in the winters. The piece was extremely warped and and had a very musty smell to it. It had been in the cottage for at least 50 years.

Steve and Jim are magicians! They transformed a very homely piece into a show-stopper. As usual, they did such a nice job that the table appears brand new!

I am delighted that I found this company on Angie's List! Steve and Jim performed a miracle on this piece. Since this piece had been exposed to temperature extremes and humidity extremes, it was difficult to open and close when adding leaves and one of the legs was damaged. The refinished product is spectacular and I am using it in my dining room. Friends and family who saw it when it was at the cottage can't believe it is the same table. They did a truly remarkable job!

Once again, I cannot say enough about how extraordinary this company is. Steve and Jim worked their usual magic on an antique harp mirror that I thought would compliment the chest of drawers. They matched it beautifully, tightened it up and took care of the warping that was on the bottom of it. The two pieces are lovely together.

Response from OLD WORLD REFINISHING LTD
I'm sorry if no one responded to your singular inquiry. Frankly, I don't even know what this is about. Angie's List doesn't show that you inquired at all. They have a list of inquiries and your not on it at all. I also searched our e-mail and didn't find anything. If there is something that I can help you with, e-mail me owrlrtd@aol.com It seem a little unfair to give us a knee jerk response of an "F" since you have had no work done by us.

They bed looks better than it did when I first got it from my grandmother. I saw other furniture that was awaiting to be returned to other customers and I felt very confident leaving the bed with them after seeing their work. I have and would highly recommend them to others. I would have no problem going back to them again. I felt their pricing might be a little high but the quality of the work justified the price.

"Old World" was fantastic. I had read previous reviews and went with them because of the positive comments. I knew it would take awhile because I had read that from others. It was definitely worth the wait--4 weeks. The chairs are like new and he even cautioned me regarding the cushions I was having done at the same time--how to position the foam. I received another quote which was twice as much as Old World. I will definitely use them again!

Just great. Very satisfied. Above, you will find, that the company did a stellar job.
Description of Work: We could not be happier with the end result of what we thought was, essentially, an old, junky oak lamp table. Steve (proprietor) said it was about 1910 era. The table had a couple of gaps in the top, a missing foot and other scars over 100 years. We did not have high hopes for restoration. Instead, we picked up a beautifully finished piece that looks like something one would find in a high end antique store. We have the highest regard for Steve and his crew and have a few more items to send them now that we have seen the initial work. The company (Steve) also met a deadline for when we were expecting company. Jill DeBala, West Bloomfield, Michigan

Three of my dining room chairs had become impossible to sit on because they were wobbly. I assumed the glue had dried out. However, it was determined that the chairs had probably been shipped to this country unassembled and there was no glue used. The repair was handled in a timely manner and I am well satisfied. I would recommend this company to others.

We contacted Old World Refinishing for a quote on the refinishing and re-caning for our sofa and chairs that were more than 30 years old, and they coordinated with Carol's Upholstery of Novi MI to get us a top-to-bottom quote. Once Steve had our furniture, he called us into his shop so that we could select the finish. We brought in a sample of what the color we were thinking, and he was as enthusiastic about our choice as we were, so we settled on a rich mahogany. Once we got our pieces back, we were just blown away with how magnificent they looked. These pieces had been "well loved", or more accurately, absolutely trashed. The furniture had been covered in nicks and scratches, the finish was worn off and discolored in so many places, that I couldn't imagine how it would ever actually look whole and new again, but Steve did it! We know that these pieces will look wonderful in our home for another 30 years! We have a table, buffet, and china cabinet that we plan to have refinished by Old World Refinishing in the next few years, and we're keeping our eyes open for chairs at garage sales and auctions so that we can add those to the order!
