Description of Work: Requested quote back in the spring. John was a few minutes early and walked around the whole project site discussing what he saw and making suggestions. There was a bit of a wait to have the work performed but I didn't have any hard deadlines so it wasn't a worry. The crew showed up when they were scheduled to and finished on time. John checked in several times to make sure everything was going ok and I knew what the status of the project was. Would hire them again in a second!

Description of Work: I had pointed bricks on the side of my garage last year, but stain remained from the mortar that didn't rinse off. I called Perry & Perry, who quickly fit me into their busy schedule. They worked on the wall a long time and improved the looks, but I was disappointed that the stain was not completely gone. As I told Perry & Perry, I think I should have called them earlier to do the pointing.

Description of Work: My front basement wall was crumbling and caving in due to the repair work done by the contractor the Board of Water and Light had used after they replaced the lead water pipe leading into my house. I hired Perry and Perry to remove the crumbling cement blocks and rebuild the wall. They did that and painted the wall with water-proof paint. They did an excellent job and left the room completely clean. I would highly recommend them and would definitely hire them again.

Description of Work: John Perry and one of his staff/apprentice (forgotten his name) inspected our two fireplaces/flues to determine if there were any cracks or issues. They were on time and very thorough. He inspected from inside the house while his staff climbed onto the roof and inspected it from them top. I found him to be very knowledgeable and was pleased to hear he had 45 years of experience working in Masonry. He mentioned his grandfather started the business in 1919. He also mentioned his apprentice was learning a lot about the business from him and will be able to carry on the skill in the future. He gave us tips on what items to burn and not burn in the fireplaces and suggested we use fire packets instead of paper to start fire. He gave us 4 of packets and told us where we could get more. He also recommended we have the fireplace cleaned next year. I plan to hire him next year to do the job. The price to inspect the chimneys was very reasonable and I was very pleased with the service.

The Perry's came recommended to me by my neighbor who had chimney work done this summer. Learned that they do a lot of work in East Lansing. Great experience with initial phone contact. Good followup. John and his crew arrived on time, talked to me about the process. Learned that John is a third generation mason. His son works with him. Work done in a mattter of hours. The work in the fireplace looks good but I have to admit that I haven't gotten up on the roof to see what the chimney repair looks like.

We were extremely pleased with them. The estimate was very upfront - John quoted the price for the chimney replacement and additional costs we might incur depending on what they found inside. All very reasonable. When we got the estimate they said they would be out within two weeks, but it might be sooner if they had time at the end of another job (since ours would be a quick job). We indicated that would be fine. A few days later John called in the afternoon and asked if it would be okay to come out that day, and they arrived about an hour later. We selected the brick right then and were very pleased with the selection. They found the best access point to the roof that woudn't damage our flower gardens, and put carpetting on the roof to protect the shingles. They had the old one torn down and the new one up very quickly. They also checked the chimney for condensation (found none) and checked the chimney in the basement for other evidence of leakage or condensation (found none). We were very pleased to see them use the extra mortar left over from the chimney to patch cracks between the foundation blocks of our front porch (they did this on their own, we didn't have to ask them to do it). Their workers were polite and professional, and they tore down and put up the new chimney in less than 2 hours. I paid them the same day (the price was exactly as quoted), even though they told me they needed to let the mortar set up until the next day before they could attach the flashing around the chimney. They returned the next day at 9 AM and finished the job. We were very impressed. We found them on Angie's List and called them based on their other good recommendations.
Description of Work: Our chimney (no fireplace) goes through the center of the house. We noticed the part above the roof had missing morter and parts of the brick had popped off. We've also had occasional issues of leaking inside the house that we suspected came from the chimney. His quote for replacing the current chimney (above the roof) seemed so reasonable it seemed foolish to just patch it, so we had them tear down the old brick and built a new chimney above the roofline. They also checked for evidence of condensation inside the chimney (which, if found, would be the result of purchasing a 95% efficient furnace a couple years ago, which no longer vents through the chimney, and is a common problem in older homes with larger chimney flue when only the hot water heater vents through the chimney), and found none.

He spent an awful lot of time with me talking to me about what was needed and what he would do. His bid was very good. It wasn’t the lowest, but if liked him. If I get the money, he would be the guy that I will be going with. He had a very very nice personality. He came across as a wonderful family man. We had a lot in common with similar ages and family experiences. I thought he was so thorough. He talked to me about things that really didn’t have anything to do with the work. I am by myself in a house out in a rural area which I am not used to with a well, a septic, water softener and all that stuff. It was all new to me, and he really took a lot of time to explain some things to me that I couldn’t figure out. His place is a little away, so he came over and did the bid within a week.
Description of Work: I wanted Perry & Perry Inc to clean up some water residue, something that looks like the beginning of mold, and then waterproof the basement. He came out one and a half months ago and gave me a bid.

I have not contracted with this company yet...but I definitely am going to do so when I get the money. Mr. Perry came to my house and did the measurements and gave me an honest quote on exactly what I wanted done. He did not try to talk me into something else, but did give me advice and choices
Description of Work: He is going to fix the foundation and put it back to where it belongs. He also gave me an estimate of just securing the foundation where it is now. Both will work, but I feel that I want the foundation put back the 1.25 inches where it should be. The other way would work and secure the foundation but I would rather have the more expensive fix and be happier. Mr. Perry said he would do what I wanted.

They are cement contractors. The rebuilding of the chimney was good but their stuccoing capabilities were minimal. The important part of what was done was done and there are probably not a whole lot of people that can do the stucco part very well. The rebuilding of the chimney was cement block and it was good but the ability to stucco was not as good. I didn't have a complaint when they were done but years later I can see that they didn't do as good of a job as they should have. I have a porch that I have to have replaced and I will talk to them on that.

Left message, owner arrived with an estimate the same day. Work was begun and finished within the week. Established family business, wonderful people, hire them! BTW, I had contacted several other masons who didn't even bother to return phone calls for weeks. Had previously hired another mason who gave an estimate and subsequently didn't show up for two appointments.

It was extremely reasonable and they did an outstanding job. John Perry is the owner. They did a wonderful job. They were responsive and explained everything. They were nice people. They came a little later than they said they were going to be but they called and explained why.
Description of Work: I used Perry & Perry because I had a leak in my basement and what I thought was a crack in a poured concrete wall. They fixed it and found a hole that was there when the concrete was originally poured. They filled that. I also had mentioned that I needed some brickwork done to my front steps and they did that.

This was one of the easiest repair jobs I've ever experienced, as I never actually met the mason - since the work was outside, he stopped by to take measurements, mailed us an estimate, I called to approve it, and the work was done a day ahead of schedule while I was at work. I got a bill in the mail and sent a check, and it was done! The wall itself is in much better shape now, and we are pleased to have it repaired before winter sets in.
Description of Work: We have a decorative half-wall extending from our garage, covered in field stone. There was significant cracking and tipping of the cap and part of the wall was coming apart. We had Perry & Perry replace missing stones, re-mortar as needed, and fix several large (1-2 inch) gaps in the wall.

Jon came out and assessed the basement and its problems as a physician would a patient: very thorough and knowledgeable. Work was completed in a timely fashion, the crew was neat and professional, and the basement's been great so far. We had several steel beams put in place to support the foundation, the walls were cleaned, cracks filled and the entire basement painted with dry lock. Oh, and for only a wee bit more money, Jon also fixed our front door concrete steps, now they're level!

Gave me a detailed report on defects of 35-year old deteriorating chimney which was permitting water damage to walls and ceilings, and recommendations and options to cure problem. Were VERY helpful to help me make decisions about repair and also went out of their way to create a new, safer chimney that also met the house (and my) aesthetic requirements. I told friends that there's so little fun in spending $5,000 for a chimney. (Kind of like the thrill of a new furnace), but I must say I do take more pleasure than I expected when I look at the new chimney. It's as charming as a chimney can be.
