About us

D&W Windows and Sunrooms is a family owned and operated business established in 1955. We manufacture all of the windows & sunrooms that we sell. This is done to ensure the highest quality at the lowest price and to truly cut out any middleman. D&W operates out of our state of the art 65,000 SF facility located on I-69 in Davison, MI. D&W Windows and Sunrooms has always been recognized both locally and nationally as progressive innovators and leaders within our industry. One example of this is our Super Room sunroom. It’s the world’s first all vinyl and wood composite sunroom with no exposed fasteners. It’s been so well received that we not only sell it in our local market but we currently distribute it in 16 states through our network of dealers. D&W distributes the Super Room® through Crown Sunrooms, our wholesale division. Both companies are members in good standing with the National Sunroom Association (NSA). D&W is also a member of the Earthwise Group. This is a group of local and regional window manufacturers that hold themselves to a higher standard of manufacturing processes. The Earthwise group and D&W consistently meet and exceed the rigorous standards set forth by Energy Star, National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), and the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA). Not to mention all the processes required to meet the Earthwise branding. Through our commitment to quality, and especially personal service, the Earthwise Group has earned the Good Housekeeping seal of approval. The Good Housekeeping seal is only earned after passing a testing and review process and only the products displaying the highest standards of quality within their industries earn the seal. Description of Work: Installation was performed by subcontractors. Would I used them again? Perhaps. I have mixed thumbs up/thumbs down on the whole process, though windows are of good decent quality. Initial interview with salesman did not make me too comfortable, as i felt as if I was being pressured into purchasing while the salesperson was there. I could only get the special quoted price if I contracted with them at that time. I didn't like that as it didn't allow me to get other quotes. I should have refused a contract then but said ok. | Also felt as if I somehow slipped through the cracks as it seemed to take a rather long time before my windows were done and installation date arranged. I made more than one phone call to find out progress on the windows due to length of time involved. | Installation was done during the middle of January, though thankfully the weather cooperated and it was a nice decent sunny day. The contractors were good and knew their job, though I feel a bead of caulk should have been applied at the base of my picture window. There was an amount of cold air that came in during the winter months; I ended up removing the quarter round and doing the caulking myself. This last winter I sensed some leakage around the window seals up I have not yet contacted them. I fully intend to some time this summer as the windows (when shut and latched) should not allow air to infiltrate. | Overall, the windows are nice, look good and are superior to our former windows. The subcontractors were professional, had to remake one sill and took care to make sure I was satisfied with installation (at the time).

Description of Work: Installed two 45 degree bay windows and one slider window. They were very prompt and quick with the installation. I did have to call a tech from D & W to come out and make and adjustment to the casement windows as they were not closing completely. This was a 15 minute job and they are fine now. My experience with D & W was very good.

Description of Work: Installed new roof. There were no extra charges at the end of the job. Workers were professional and did an exemplary clean up job. I checked consumers reports on line to confirm the quality of the shingles used. Their labor & shingle warranty was by far the best one I got.

When I arrived at the showroom I first asked the receptionist if I could purchase a hand crank for our awning. She wasn't sure if they had it in stock or if it would need to be ordered. She went to ask the manager. When she returned she told me the manager could not to talk to me now, but wanted me to know Dand W did not have the hand crank in stock and they would not order one because the quantity (one) was to low. They must order in larger quantities. I mentioned to her again that the awning was sold and installed by Dand W. She reiterated they could not help. I asked where else I could purchase one and she didn't know. I then told her to relay a message to our window salesman. We are no longer interested in doing business with Dand W. If Dand W cant stand behind a $4200. awning I cannot trust them with $ 9200. worth of windows. Dand W does not understand how to take care of the customer. By the way I never did hear from the salesman regarding the heads up I gave him about my visit and I have not received a response to my message.
Description of Work: D&W came to our home Tues 7/9/2013 to measure our windows and provide an estimate. The salesman did not have samples of the casement windows we wanted so he invited us to their showroom where we could evaluate the quality of the windows. I called the salesman Friday 7/12 around noon and notified him I would be at the showroom at 2pm. We also have a power retractable awning ( Sunesta) installed over our deck. The awning was sold and installed by D&W in March 09. We lost the hand crank so I thought I would purchase a replacement at D&W when I visited their showroom.

We thought the salesman, Joe, did an excellent job of presenting the company and its roofing products (quote on windows also). We had another quote the day before so we had something to compare. The price on the roof was comparable to the other quote we had. Joe told us their own crew did the roofing, that they would all be in company shirts (no one taking their shirt off), no music and no profanity and they would stay on the job until it was finished. Rain delayed the start of the project. During that time the crew chief stopped by to check out the roof before they would start the project. Told me that this was the first year D and W was doing roofing. He had a previous professional relationship with the roofing manager and others on the crew and spoke highly of them. Said he loved working for D and W and couldn't say enough about his satisfaction regarding the company. The roofing manager was in constant contact with us during the rain delay to let us know when they could finally start the job. The crew came out the day it was dry. Everyone we talked to seemed friendly and very professional. They finished the whole job in one day. Clean up was terrific. Because they had to replace so many roof boards they gave us a break on the boards and took off $7.00 per sheet from their quoted price of $45.00 per sheet.
Description of Work: Stripped 2 layers of shingles off the roof. We knew there was a considerable amount of roof board damage on one side of the roof (it was evident just looking at the roof before anything was done) but naturally didn't know the extent until the old shingles were off. They replace 29 sheets of 4 x 8 boards which we were told ahead of time would be $45.00/sheet beyond the 3 sheets included in the price. Installed the "special" underlayment (new type of material that the salesman explained when we got the quote), new drip edge, special valley material and roof vents.

Project started on schedule and the workers were very prompt and worked a full day every day to complete the job. In general I was satisfied with the installation and the windows appeared as an improvement over the old aluminum windows. The first indication of an issue was when it rained a few days after the windows were installed. I could hear the higher pitch sound of water falling from my eaves, the sound was like it was within the room I was in - I thought this unusual. When I investigated by approaching the window and listening, the sound was "leaking" from around what was supposed to the seal on the center vent or side vent windows. I called Dand W and got to speak to an inside person who gave me about 30 seconds to describe the problem an then he interrupted me and said he had to go to a meeting and would get back to me. OK, I waited about a week and again called and was transferred to the same person who stated he had not been in my area for some time and would schedule a time to review issue, but would have to get back with me. You guessed it - no response from Dand W. Called a third time, same inside person - same result. Appears his sole job is to dismiss customer complaints. Other quality issues. Window latches that lock the windows are haphazardly placed with some forcing the windows apart before locking. Some latches are so closely attached to the other half of the locking mechanism, that while sliding the window open or closed actually rubs the screw heads holding the lock mechanism in place. The rubber super seal used to space the glass to form the insulated glass is not uniformly installed with the rubber seal showing above the sight line on some of the windows, The sound leak issue described above is actually a lack of proper seal on the windows. I can actually see daylight when the windows are in the closed and locked position where the is supposed to be a sealed window. During the winter cold air leaks into the house and condensation forms on the inside of the windows where the poor fitting seals are open to the outside. This lack of a good fitting seal also allows very fine dirt to enter the house - did not expect this. Dand W has not addressed any of the problems described above.
Description of Work: D&W replaced 23 windows in my 50+ year old home. Original windows were aluminum thermopane that had seen better days. I did my research, went to the D&W show room in Davidson, and talked to a neighbor who had windows replaced by D&W and had favorable opinion of D&W. All replaced windows had the look of the original aluminum windows. The majority of the windows were 3 section horizontal sliders described as center vent or side vent windows. Two windows were two section sliders, and four were small picture windows.Windows were high efficency windows (glass) and foam filled PVC frames. Work started on schedule and took one week to complete. Workers were on time and worked a full day each day.

Initial visit: Salesman... well he was a salesman, but showed me a great product at price cheaper than the competitors. Wait: about 6 weeks for windows to be manufactured... by the manufacture Installation: Installer did a great job... quick, looks absolutely fabulous, and no mess. The only thing I question is that he took my old windows away without asking me... I was thinking of installing them on my polebarn, but maybe not a good idea anyway. 5 months later: Crack developed in window for unknown reasons. I called to schedule for repair... left message with secretary and no return phone call... I called the next week and again left message and again NO return phone call... third week, crack expanding, I called and asked for supervisor/owner... put on hold for over 10 minutes and again left message. This time, supervisor called back within 30 minutes and I expressed my concern over not getting anyone to return phone calls. The next day, the repair scheduler called and a few days later a repair guy showed up to my home. He was around 30 minutes late; however, he did call to let me know that he had another appt at 12:30, same time as mine which I never did find out how that was. He took measurements and told me my new window will be ready in a couple of weeks. I'm believing it should be fine now, but I am not happy with how they treat you after you ARE their customer.

The door was custom made to fit our door. It took about 4 weeks after order to get it installed. When the installer showed up the door would not fit the opening. He took it in stride, modified the door frame and the installation came out just fine. It did take him about six hours to complete the install.

A well know company in the area. I called them up and they came out and gave me an estimate. I had another company come out and D and W had a cheaper price. The salesman was very personable and very patient and answered all my questions. The salesman even told that I could come out to their show room before I made the purchase and to see how they were installed and to look at all the windows. Installed in 1 day and cleaned up behind themselves. Lifetime Warranty.

I was very disappointed with the service provided by this company. The sales person (Tom) that came to our home was pleasant and professional, he did the measurements, discussed the product and options that we had and provided estimates of the various options. We were in the process of evaluating costs of other projects we had planned for our home, so several weeks past when I received a voicemail message from a different sales manager (Brian) doing a follow up from the home visit. Just around this time we received an advertisement in the mail, advertising 50% off; of course realizing and reading in the fine print that it was 50% off Labor. I returned the call indicating to the lady that answered the phone that Tom had previously come out and provided an estimate and I had recently received a followup call from Brian, and that I would like to speak to him because I had questions. Brian was not in, but she indicated she would give him the message and have him call back. A couple days or so passed and I did not get a call, so I once again called and speak to Brian. I explan to him that we had already received an estimate and that it did not indicate how much of the cost was labor and that I was interested in finding out how much this would reduce the price. Brian told me that labor was usually 20-25% of the cost (which I thought was low) and that the discount would be 50% of that but he would check and call me back. Days went by and I called again but Brian was not in. Finally Brian returned my call only to tell me that the estimated price I received was already discounted and that they could only take a couple hundred dollars off the price. At no time during the home visit or within the written estimate did it indicate that this was a reduced or discounted price. I told Brian that this did not sound fair to me and if that's the best they could do I would look else elsewhere. I hope this is not the common practice or customer service the owners of this company normally provide, and was just a case of a sales person not doing justice to him employer.

It went quite well overall. We had considered a few different window companies (Tailor Made, Guardian, Magic), but leaned towards Dand W because their manufacturing facility is local (Davison), and we like to support local, Made-in-USA manufacturing. We purchased our home new in 1998, and 3 of the windows leaked whenever it rained. The original windows are what we called "builder-quality", or otherwise, the cheapest junk the builder could find when the home was built. We were looking for the "smartest" windows we could find (appearance + energy efficiency + warranty, all divided by price). Energy efficiency was big on the list, and we had seen the "where's the foam?!?" commercials on TV, which made Dand W windows an interesting candidate. If we weren't on a budget, we probably would have went with Tailor Made out of Detroit (triple-pane with built-in shades between the panes, lowest U-factor you can find), but we do live on a budget. My wife went to their factory showroom in the spring, and not long after, we had someone come out to the house for an estimate. Dand W sent one of their sales persons, Phil, out to our house. We really liked Phil; he was genuine, wasn't pushy, and he had good technical knowledge of the windows (I'm very technically-based). The price he quoted was below our budget, so we opted for Dand W's beautiful V-groove etched glass for our sliding-glass door. Almond vinyl frames. 10 double-hung, 2 sliders. Screens were included in the quote. One of the Dand W owners, I think it it was Dave (from the commercial), came out to get final measurements (I wasn't home at the time, but my wife was, and she said he was nice, polite, and efficient, and took extra time to ask if there were any questions or desired changes before the installation was scheduled). Dand W sub-contracts their installers, but they have a unique contract with their installers, which means a Dand W installer cannot install windows for other companies. It made the relationship between the subcontracted installer and Dand w close enough to make us comfortable. The installers were Mark and Adam. They knocked out all 12 windows and the sliding door in one long, hot summer day (we left the A/C cranking for them, which I would encourage you to do also if it is hot outside). One guy on the outside, one on the inside; they had a system. The installation looks good; everything is square (and I'm particular). They cleaned up every single scrap when they were finished. Couldn't tell they had been there when they left. I changed out some of the trim on the inside of two windows and found the foam insulation (which is applied around the outside permitter of the window when it is installed) to have good, but not great penetration. There were no gaps or anything that severe, but there was room to pack in a little more foam insulation, at least on those two windows. The windows have been in for 8 months; there have been zero issues and we are quite happy with the windows. The 2011/2012 winter was mild, so we didn't really get a good comparison of the improvement in energy efficiency relative to the original windows. However, it's worthwhile to note that had the lowest natural gas consumption of the 13 years we've been in the house. Likely a combination of the windows and the mild winter. The sliding glass door with its etched V-groove is very nice, and gets noticed (positive comments from visitors). Nothing is perfect, so the only thing we can complain about is the noise abatement. We were expecting a significant reduction in outside noise penetration into the house (it's an advertised attribute of their windows), but it doesn't seem to be incredibly better. Don't get me wrong, the noise reduction is a little better, but the birds still wake us up in the morning. Nearly two years in and no issues and no complaints. Absolutely recommend Dand W for windows and stand behind my "A" rating for them. I give Angie's List a "D" rating for their continuous SPAM-like e-mails indicating that I haven't completed my review of Dand W.

I had my bathroom window replaced..When they brought the replacement window, they said it was a little small for the opening but don't worry, they can fix that.. They filled in the sides with white plastic..The winidow was worse than the window that I replaced. Wind came in. I called the company the day after they installed it and was told, that is what a replacement window is like. Friends that came over said it looked like a institution window. Finally this year, they called me to ask if I was satisfied with their services. I told them no and explained the window.. They send a person out to caulk where the wind was coming in. It had not been properly installed. I told the installer that I didn't like the window and would replace it when I got extra money. It would have been an okay window if it was the right size for the opening. I know other people that didn't have this problem with them.. I would not recommend them. It took them a year to get back to me.. I covered the window with a blind.. I'm glad they didn't get back to me on the other windows in my house that they were going to price a year ago. I was told, replacement windows are not the same as other windows..They only fill in a hole and you will have a smaller window (less glass)..

. We talked to someone in the showroom for prices for a new picture window and to replace our front door and screen door. The gentleman helped us to choose what would best work for us and sat down with us on the estimates for the job. Someone came out to the house about a week later to make sure that all the measurements were correct. The guys came out a few weeks later to install the doors and window. They did have the wrong door, but asked if we wanted to wait for the correct one or take the one that was on the truck. We opted to go ahead and take the one they had. The guys made sure that they didn't make a big mess and cleaned up before they left. We wouldn't hesitate to go back to them again if and when we need any windows.

We ordered the doors and when they came they were all wrong. They were going to put them on anyway. I would not let them. Got the new doors and they hung them all backwards. 2 of the windows did not fit and they got them in anyway. Our front door and screen door still does not fit right. I had them here 3 or more times to complain and it was like they did not care because they already had our money. They did show up when they were supposed to but they did a lousy job of measuring and a lousy job of installing. I kept having to call and call to get someone out here to show that the windows and doors did not fit right.
