Cedar Works

Our entire experience with CedarWorks and Jamie was great. We moved into the house early summer and our deck was falling apart. We also wanted to add a sunroom. I found his information from Angie's List and also one of my friends had mentioned Cedar Works. We gave him a call and scheduled an appointment for an estimate and plan design. He showed up on time and we discussed all of our needs and what we wanted. He had a lot of great ideas that my husband and I had not even thought about. He had a lot of pictures and example of decks and sunrooms that he has built which helped us out a lot!! I like to see things rather than imagine how they are going to look. After he came out and met with us, we got an estimate shortly after. His plan design and price were all great! We decided to go with Cedar Works. We had our deck and sunroom built in early November. His crew showed up on time everyday and were very clean and professional. We were very impressed with the fact that Jamie has his own clean up crew that comes to clean up the job periodically. For our sunroom we needed a ceiling fan and some lighting. He scheduled the electrician to come out and take care of all that for us. We really didn't need to do anything besides pick out our ceiling fan and lighting that we wanted. Everything was hassle free and honestly very easy. We are so happy that we choose Cedar Works. We got a couple of other estimates and we felt the most comfortable with him, as far as the company, price and design. We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Cedar Works!!

Let me start by saying, we absolutely love our screen porch and are very glad that we made the decision to hire Cedarworks to build it. They did a fabulous job on the construction and design and we couldn't be more pleased with the quality. My only complaint would be with their scheduling process. Understanding that it was mid summer and obviously their busiest season, delays were understandable. However, we felt that the communication could have been improved. Our schedule was never consistent and it wasn't uncommon to have a crew one or two days one week and then not see them for seven days. To be fair, there were times when we were waiting for inspections or delivery of materials but this certainly wasn't the case every time. As a homeowner with kids at home, it would have been nice to know in advance when they were going to be working. That being said, they were very accomodating and patient with any changes we needed to make and very professional while working. We would definitely recommend them!

Very smooth from start to finish. We have had several compliments on the deck since it was built in the fall and highly recommend Cedarworks because of our individual experience with them. Perhaps not the cheapest builder to work with, however we were impressed with the professionalism of our salesperson Robert and Jamie (the owner) made us feel comfortable through the entire process. The crew was clean and efficient and even put flowers in our newly constructed planter boxes! We thought this was a nice touch. Job well done.

Jamie and his crew are true professionals and masters of their craft. Our hot tub was in dire need of a makeover and the end results are beautiful. The crew worked fast and efficient, and cleaned up the work site when it was finished. We now have a beautiful cedar enclosure complete with a tiki bar and shingled roof matching our home. No more pushing tons of heavy snow off the tub after a snowfall! They even added low voltage lighting and an option for me to mount a TV. Cedar Works has breathed new life into our spa area and we couldn't be happier! I would post photos but it seems that Angie's List has removed that feature for some reason?

Overall we are very satisfied with our new deck in terms of both the quality of workmanship and the process. The estimate process was very transparent and professional. Other estimates I received were not as detailed as Cedarworks? (some were even just an email), however Cedarworks detailed every item involved in the deck build. I found this very helpful to understanding not only what needed to be done but what items were driving costs. Cedarworks was not the least expensive estimate we received, but in the end our gut told us to go with them because of our experience with Robert (from Cedarworks) during the estimate process, the professionalism of the quote and the reviews on Angies List. Once we signed the contract, we ended up needing a few adjustments made to the design of the deck. Robert was very accommodating and responsive with developing revised plans and updating the estimate. Again, everything was very transparent and we didn?t ever wonder if we were being taken advantage of. I did a lot of research regarding deck styles and one thing I noticed is that the small details really make the difference. For example, a surface trim piece added to the edge of the deck so you can?t see the cut edges of the deck boards and a deck skirting that goes all the way to the ground. A lot of the decks being built in my neighborhood do not feature these elements. I am glad I decided to specifically ask about these when I was receiving estimates because some estimates (even ones that were more expensive than Cedarworks) did not include these items. As it was summertime (the busiest time for deck building), it took a while to get the project kicked-off as there were many projects in front of ours. But once it began, it went very quickly and the team was very efficient. We even had a slight delay due to the Birmingham building inspector requiring a deeper foundation for the posts than is usually required, which resulted in needing a different piece of equipment that could effectively dig deep enough, through the thick clay. Usually when something like this happens (in my experience with contractors) it is an excuse for everything to come to a halt and the project ending up stalled for days. However, in this case, the project resumed within 2 days and was quickly completed. The deck was being built around an existing (new) patio so the measurements needed to work out perfectly. In the end there were some adjustments that needed to be made to the original plan and this was also handled well, with solutions proposed. Finally, besides the workmanship and the build quality of the deck being absolutely superb, another thing that we really appreciated was Robert?s flexibility in having the color of the Trex composite decking material switched before construction began. Although we chose a Trex color based on samples that Robert provided, when it arrived and we saw it in big pieces, it looked different than we expected. Although I tried to convince myself that the color was fine, it was nagging at me. The day before they were about to start cutting the Trex (once the deck posts were done), I called Robert to ask if it would be possible to switch the color. I fully expected to be hit with (and was willing to accept) a restocking fee, delivery fee or some type of cost. However, to my surprise, Robert ?pulled a favor? and had the color switched the next day in time for them to begin cutting ? with no additional costs! This flexibility was simply great and so refreshing. My experience with most contractors has been that anything is possible but it comes with extra costs, delays and you are constantly reminded that you did not stick to the original agreed plan (e.g. what is stated in the contract). We are very happy with our new deck. It looks great and I highly recommend Cedarworks!

Everything was great! Jamie came out to the house, took a couple of measurements and then we sat down and discussed what I was interested in. Jamie listened to my concerns, added his professional input and ideas and within a few minuets was able to sketch out the deck design. The price quoted was right in line with the others. After a couple of small design changes that I wanted, I decided to have Jamie and his crew do the work. And I'm glad I did! Jamie took the time do describe the process step by step and was in contact with me the throughout the entire process. After he got the approval from the city, Pat and his crew arrived on the day and time expected to begin work. The construction went extremely well. Pat and his team were very professional, punctual, and performed outstanding workmanship and answered any questions I had along the way. I was even pleasantly surprised when I noticed that Jamie had included 8 king posts with lights that we had discussed in the design but I had removed from the design due to trying to keep cost down. Jamie had listened to what I really wanted and found a way to accommodate it!! My wife and I couldn't be happier with Jamie and his Cedar Works crew. If you are looking for a quality deck builder, look no further.

From the initial meeting with Jamie to the finished product, he was very professional. He did not oversell. He had a great vision for what we wanted and gave us a very competitive quote. The dumpster was very helpful to me and I really wanted the deck leveled correctly. He accomplished those goals. He also was great with communicating with us and we were never left wondering. Lastly, the entire worksite was left clean. Great Job Cedar Works!

Jamie met with us, listened to our ideas, then designed our deck for us, on-site. He was the only contractor that incorporated our ideas into his plan. His color recommendation for the Trex was a perfect match to the brick on our house. We liked his conceptand pricing. Construction proceeded on on schedule with no supervision required. His crew cleaned up the site thoroughly after completion. We're thrilled with the results.

We called Jamie for an estimate and he came out right away. After getting other estimates, we hired Jamie. They came out when they said they would, tore out the old deck and hauled everything away. The next day they constructed the new deck and trim. The workmanship was outstanding! Everything was completely cleaned and free of debris. We are very pleased with the job they did and would hire again in a minute.

Gentleman was knowledgeable and provide suggestions to redesign the deck. Very satisfied with the plan.

Deck install went vey well. Jim and his crew were very picky about getting all the details right including spending a couple hours making sure deck was perfectly level. Install of the fence took place at a later date. There was a delay caused by the problem of finding a fence vendor that could supply the type and color of fence we wanted, and a delay getting it shipped here. There was also a delay dues to CedarWotks being very busy (I think they overbook a little and weather can always add to the problem). The same crew showed up to install the fence (they even showed up on a Sunday ). All in all,even though it took a while to get the project completed, it was worth the wait. I have received several complements on the deck since then. A job well done.

The initial contact was a bit disappointing. However, when the crew arrived to start work they were all business. Very nice to work with and did an excellent job.

They were very knowledgeable about their products and offered different designs and options. They even gave suggestions to help guide us in our decision. They were very professional, and we have really liked the experience so far.

Cedar Works was great to work with from the initial estimate to the final nail. Their work crews are professional, very quality conscious, prompt and courteous. The job went exactly as we were told, and Jim, the installation crew leader, kept us informed the whole way along. Our old deck was approximately 350 square feet with a walk-around to the driveway and stairs to the back yard. My wife and I are extremely pleased with the quality and care the installers showed. Our new deck looks beautiful and is solid as a rock. I would not hesitate to recommend Cedar Works to anyone.

Deck is great! During construction encountered a design issue and broke into well water pump line. Jamie took responsibility and resolved. Highly recommend for value, workmanship and service !

I read the reviews on Angie's List of the decks that Cedar Works had built in the past. And I also logged onto the Cedar Works web site to gather additional information. From the information available, I was confident that Cedar Works was the company I wanted to work with in constructing a deck unto my home. I contacted Cedar Works and they set up an appointment for Robert to meet with me in my home. Robert met with me and listened to what I wanted and we designed a Trex Deck (actually, he designed it with my input). Robert did some measurements and told me what the Deck would cost. I agreed with the design and gave him a deposit. There were several other contacts to get permits, etc. Cedars Works handled everything - from start to finish, but always kept me involved and informed. In building the deck, Pat, the crew chief, was/is a fantastic deck builder. Pat and his crew (of two assistants) went right to work and constructed a beautiful deck in about 3 days working around some rain that interrupted some of the construction. Pat and his crew did amazing work. Pat also met with the inspector from the city to insure the deck met city building codes. It also is worth noting that Pat was careful to insure that the area was cleaned up after the deck was completed. I could not be happier with deck that was built.

From start to finish it took 2 weeks. There were some issues with the treks that were delivered and they took care of everything. We were very happy that they were picky. They really wanted to make it right and the price was good.

They gave me an esteem of two weeks but it took a month to get the work done. The last day of the job they informed me they needed parts they didn't have with them but they would come back once they got the parts a month form then. I opted to go out and hunt down the part myself so they wouldn't walk out on the job. We are happy with the finish product but I had to go find a few of the parts myself.

Fabulous! I love it. I love the deck. It's great. I think it was $5600. It was a lot, but it's a really great deck. They gave me really good advice. It came out beautiful. I'm really happy with it.

Jamie and his team were the greatest people to work with!! Professional and experts!! The job was done to perfection! His team was fast and precise! Were were shocked at how dedicated the team was. They worked morning to night with no breaks!!! The deck speaks for itself!!! We don't have enough words to say how much we love it! Oh, Jamie also designed the deck! You have to call Cedarworks if you are looking for a deck. Trust me, just do it!! You will not be disappointed. Thanks again Cedarworks! They were great. They were busy so it took a while to get Jaime out and to get the work done but it was well worth it. Jaime helped us choose colors. He was patient and designed the deck two or three times for us so we were both happy in the end. The company was professional and worked long hours to finish on time. Every was friendly and nice to work with. New love our deck and use it every day. It looks great even after a long hard winter and was easy to wash and use this spring! Safe for my kids and dog.

Jamie visited us twice and helped us with ideas and planned the deck architecture and materials. He obtained the permits and stared the process early May. He kept us informed of the progress with frequent telephone communications. His crew was prompt and did an excellent job. We are very pleased with the final product. On the whole, an outstanding job!

Jamie came out and visited and helped us through our decision making (color, product etc.). Cannot speak highly enough about them tbh. Deck is complete and looks amazing.
