Somerset Painting & Professional Improvements

Went very well. All done on schedule. Very neat job. Powerwashed, cleaned, and caulked before work. Covered bushes, walk, porch, etc so no unwanted drips. Overall prompt, efficient, and good work. Very cooperative, easy to work with. Would certainly use them again. Did use them again about a month later to paint my lengthy wooden deck railing. Were very neat again. No messes. Top notch company with good workers.

I was very impressed with Rick's quick response, timing and punctuality to come out and look at the house. Now I quoted five different companies (the top three rated here and two guys recommended to me) and I can say that Rick was the most impressive. He was not the cheapest but I believe that his work and quality was close to the cost or estimate he gave me. He did a great job following up and I loved his video email follow up. We did not go with Sumerset painting due to the following reasons: 1) cost was higher then the average price quoted. Other companies offered more and noticed more then Sumerset. Sumerset quoted and looked at exactly what I showed them. Some of the other companies reviewed the entire outside of the house and pointed out other trouble areas for me to consider. 2) Did not like the method of the timing the edge of the boards and the fact that the the inside edge of the boards would be the same color as the stecco. 3) Pushed hard to paint the stecco the same color as the trim boards. I see that it might be the newest trend or look good but it also makes it less work (no cutting of the edges). All in all I was impressed with Sumerset Painting and I would have them quote again. I can say that I learned alot from Sumerset that helped me to make my final decision.

Overall the project went great. I called Somerset to setup an appointment and left a message. Rick called me back the same day and said he could come to my house the next day to give me an estimate. Rick came out to the house while I was at work and took pictures of the house, he put these in an email and made comments along side each picture as to what needed to be done. He sent the email to me the same day along with an estimate to complete the work. I gave the price a B grade because I really did not compare with others, the price seemed fair for the work being done. Rick let me know that we were third in line so it would be several weeks before they could start. We did have scheduling delay's due to weather, our vacation and other work being done, so basically I had no problem with Somerset in regards to timeliness and scheduling. When they got started everything went really well. Two guys worked on it every day (business day's mostly, but they did come one saturday) until it was finished. The results look great, and the two painters were very friendly and professional. The painter's cleaned up after themselves everyday, so when they were done for the day it looked like they were never there. Also, the took a lot of care around are landscaping, which includes a pool, bushes, etc... Lastly, Rick from Somerset kept in touch the whole time. If I called him he called me back. if I emailed him, he emailed me back. Overall, one of the best contractor experiences I have had from start to finish!! I would, and probably will hire them again for other work in the future.

I researched on Angies list local painters. I called many with no return calls. Rick was the first to get back to me. Rick Hartsell was a pleasure to work with. He was able to quote the job, order paint have it delivered and have a team of 4 here to paint the exterior trim on our house in under a month. Rick's team of painters were very careful not to get a drop of paint on our dark colored siding or trex deck. The type of paint Sherman Williams Duration paint really made a difference in the appearance of our house which was a new construction in 2006 but the paint that was originally used had started to flake and turn yellow. I had several quotes that were higher and around the same price as Somerset painting however I appreciated the friendliness and caring of Rick and his team. They had giant ladders to reach clear to the second story of the house and were careful not to destroy the landscape or dent my siding.

Job turned out awesome. Re-leveling and dry laying was a big project.

They diamond ground the floor and cleaned out the cracks and filled them. Then they applied 2 coats of epoxy over a three day period. He cleaned up the area each day before he left.

Somerset Painting Personable, professional, seemed to know what he was doing. Was a littler higher price then what I wanted.

The house is a 21 year old English tudor. It had only been painted once in its lifetime. It had many cracked and warped trim boards, bowed stucco and stucco with outright holes and a few cracks. I truly thought I was looking at replacement of many trim boards and stucco panels. Somerset owner Rick Hartsell did an inspection of the home and did a very good job noting all the areas of the exterior that would require extra attention. He proposed a plan which included a complete caulking job using superior caulk which ended up doing wonders for the trim boards; the plan also included rehabilitating stucco panels, sometimes with outright patching which, after painting, blended in very well with the rest of the stucco panel(s). Rick's crew was also able to rehab all of the wood windows on the house some of which were in sad shape. The crew also cleaned up every day after work and took great care around landscaping. Rick himself finished the job by providing a subtle contrast to the mono appearance of the tudor, repainting the front windows and garage door with a complementary shade of taupe paint. I would recommend Somerset to anyone considering an exterior rehab/paint job.

Everything went well. No complaints at all. The amount of time the painters were at the home was longer than originally estimated, but they told me from the beginning that they would rather to a fantastic job and take longer then a good job within the estimated time frame. I'm very satisfied with the outcome.

He went above and beyond and even tried to wash my vinyl siding for me. They were great. I would definitely use this company again.

We had a very positive experience with Somerset. Rick called back within a few hours of my initial call, and scheduled an on-site estimate within 24 hrs. The estimate was reasonable given the amount of prep work needed, including stripping very old wallpaper. He also worked to fit us in to meet our need to get the painting done in July. The painters were very prompt and professional. They worked hard each day, seemed to enjoy what they were doing and worked together very well as a team. They cleaned up well at the end of each day, so the impact on our daily lives was minimized. The job took 3 days, mostly due to significant effort needed to remove the wallpaper in the master bedroom. This was not anticipated in the original estimate, but Rick honored the original quote and did not charge us for this extra time. When we noted a couple of missed trim spots after the job was done, Rick came out the same day and completed the work himself. I highly recommend Somerset and will definitely use them again on other jobs. They overdelivered and are very customer oriented.

Somerset was among the most expensive quotes I received, however I selected them because the information I had on them was all positive and the other bidders just didn't convince me that they could do a quality job. They were very clean, with the minor exception of some paint on the driveway that was an accidental spill. Due to many rainy days they started late, however had at least two guys working six days / week until the job was finished - they finished before the deadline I gave them. I would definitely recommend Somerset Painting to anyone whose primary concern is a quality, on-time paint job and are willing to spend a few extra dollars. I'm sure there are cheaper painters out there, but doubt that there are any that do a better quality job.

Excellent work in tough weather...lots of rain...then lots of hot days. no problems.

I hired Somerset Painting to perform interior and exterior painting and a few other remodeling projects. During a conversation I mentioned to owner Rick Hartsell that the tile on my front porch was crumbling and needed to be replaced. He provided the most amazing mason, Nash Vucinaj, born and trained in Italy, to look at my porch. Nash arrived the next day. Immediately upon walking up my front sidewalk he stopped and noticed a large crack in my chimney, ready for water failure at any minute. Nash repaired the chimney first since we were at risk with all the recent rain. His work on the front porch was breathtaking. He removed the existing broken tile fand replaced it with the most beautiful flagstone; if I could I would attach a picture. I then commented to him that the area around my garage/driveway was so unnattractive and I didnt know what to do since nothing would grow there. Nash suggested a small area of brick pavers, surrounded by a retaining wall filled with mulch. This area is now one of the most beautiful we have! He is very talented at many things, not just masonry and landscaping. He is now remodeling our garage and upgrading our garage floor. Nash has an eye for beauty and is passionate about quality; perfection is his goal. Truly a gem, I will recommend him to everyone I know.

They gave us a quote for $10,000 to paint the house and we obviously did not use them. They were professional but they were also astronomical. He was nice, his price was just incredible.

The project went painfully slow due to the extremely poor wet weather in April and early May. The paint estimate came in a bit low due to I would suspect the high absorption rate of the T-111, so we need an additional 5-gals of paint. A lot of time was spent on prep work, including power wash, scraping, and caulking. The crew kept the site clean every day they were there. Rick's crew did a great job.

The workers were very prompt, tidy and personable. They took the metal doors home to spray paint them and did an exvellent job!

Rick came to the house, provided a great price and was able to start the job within a couple of days. The rooms needed quite a bit of patching and caulking which probably took longer than expected but there was no rushing, just very meticulous work. I am not exaggerating in saying that the painters took significant pride in their work. The painting also went very well. The painters worked hard, were extremely quiet and worked hard to make their work as unobtrusive as possible. Bottom line, good price, great quality, I definitely would use Somerset again and would recommend them to anyone.

We decided to go with Somerset after getting a "special" Angie's list offer. This company is very fast and professional. - High quality, too! I would highly recommend them for any interior painting job. Will call on them again and again!

Living Room is 15x31. Kitchen is 14x18. My home is a very old house, so a lot of prep work needed to be done on trim, around windows and on crown molding. Entire Living Room was painted including trim, window frames and ceiling. In kitchen, only the ceiling was painted. Everything looked fabulous when the painters finished. They also cleaned up entirely when they were finished. I have used Somerset Painting for my exterior home and garage painting also in the past. I am very satisfied with both projects and would recommend the company to friends and family. Rick, the owner, provides the estimates and follows up routinely on the projects and makes sure everything is going well and that you are satisfied with the work.

The man from Sommerset Painting came out he refused to give me a dollar estimate. I called him because I noticed he was highly rated on AngiesList. He told me he couldn't give me an estimate. He told me it could take 6 hours to paint my living room, it could take 10 hours to paint my hallway. He said there was noway he could give me an estimate. I have never used a painter who couldn't give me an estimate. I pressed him and he refused to tell me. He said that there was leaded paint in this area and that he would have to take certain precautions. I wanted him to paint over the existing paint, not sandpaper and remove the existing paint. If he had to do that I could see the lead being an issue. He said he'd have to tape off the area and cover it off with plastic. He said it would be a big hassle and expensive. I told him I had two other painters come out and they gave me an estimate on the work. I told him I didn't understand and he just said he couldn't do it. Then when he was leaving he said it could be $10,000 it could be $6,000 and then he said if there is any money left over I could paint the outside of my house with a little smirk.

Fantastic! They were extremely professional, did a GREAT job, would definitely use them again for any project. Highly recommend!!!

David Hall who did the work was here promptly each day at 9AM. He was very polite and was very careful to use drapes and covers to protect furniture etc from damage. He cleaned up each day so we were able to use the bathrom and bedroom while the work was going on. The bathroom wallpaper removal and subseqent drywall repair was the most time consuming and took over twenty one hours to just get the bathroom done

The job went well. Rick Hartsell is very professional, and his workers are thorough and careful. His roof and masonry guy is absolutely outstanding (Nosh Vucinaj). Rick was careful to point out some issues I had not considered -- specifically, that the roof needed additional repairs beyond the emergency patching which was done this past summer -- and he was unwilling to proceed with a job which he thought would not ultimately be satisfactory. Somerset's price is not low, but the work is excellent and it is done promptly.

Rick made the whole process painless - he responded to my request for an estimate the same day I e-mailed him. He spent plenty of time discussing the best way to repair and treat the house, without ever making me feel I was asking a stupid question. He completed the job in a reasonable amount of time, and the results are beautiful. His crew was professional and responsible. I especially appreciated the way Rick and his crew went out of their way to not interrupt our daily routine. My dog, Abby, was equally impressed with Rick. She highly recommends him for not only the quality of the work, but his friendliness and kind manner. I will recommend Rick to all of my family and friends who require painting. I intend to use him again during the winter for inside work.
