+ -1 moreThe paint crew arrived at 8:00 a.m. They introduced themselves and work began immediately. Somerset' s paint crew power washed, scraped, sanded, caulked and glazed our wood surfaces and windows providing great attention to detail. They reset all loose nails and screwed in any loose boards and panels. In addition, they rust-primed and painted our hand railings, metal doors and handles. They painted and secured our gutters and downspouts while caulking and sealing holes where wires enter the house to keep out spiders and ants. While painting our home, the crew arrived on time each day and worked consistently all day to make our property look attractive. They always made sure that our home looked clean and neat throughout the process. They were not loud or disturbing to us or our neighbors. Whenever, we asked questions, they would explain what they were doing and how it would enhance the beauty of our property. Rick came out to check on the progress of the job and asked if we had any questions or concerns. The job was satisfactorily completed in one week's time without any inconvenience to our family or neighbors. As a result of doing such a great job on our home, our next-door neighbor has contracted with Somerset to have their home painted. There are a several other neighbors in this community who want Somerset to paint their homes as well. We would use this company again and will recommend them to others in the community.
Description of Work: Somerset Painting and Home Improvement painted our home and garage and it looks BEAUTIFUL! We saw this company's ratings on Angie's list and were very impressed. A Somerset representative, Rick Hartsell, came to our home, talked with us and provided a reasonable estimate for painting the exterior of our home and garage. We discussed repair concerns and painting options, and he assured us that Somerset Painting and Home Improvement could make our home look great again. We agreed on a price and he said his crew would be at our home the next day by 8:00 a.m. After leaving our home, he emailed us an itemized,detail list of the work order along with the company's licenses and insurance coverages.

+ 3 moreAfter doing our own research, contacted Somerset Painting. Owner came with siding contractor. An estimate of the costs followed. The first work was to remove the brick work, and repair the area of the foundation that was allowing water to wick into the siding. The stone mason was very definitive as to what would look best. We went back and forth about the porch several times. As it turned out, he said, "Trust me." I did and the resulting porch was better than anything I had ever imagined. In the meantime, the exterior was sheathed with insulation and then covered with the vinyl siding once it had been delivered. All problems were discussed. The two contractors were careful to make certain we were happy. The only contractor we did not feel performed at excellent levels was the person who installed and finished the two windows. Everything else was done as well or better than expected.
Description of Work: I cannot be more pleased with the complete resurfacing of our home, excluding the roof. The “before” pictures show a typical 35-40 year home. The siding was almost all fir with a cement porch and a middle section covered by white brick. A major problem was the fir siding absorbing water and literally growing shelves of mushrooms. After doing our own research we decided we would like a completely maintenance-free home with vinyl siding and, if possible, stone below. All surfaces front, sides, and back were to be covered in order to make everything maintenance-free with the exception of the garage doors which still need to be painted. We we quite pleased with the stone mason and siding contractors hired by Somerset. They did everything that was asked for and more. The stone mason was extraordinary. He gave us very good advice, corrected the moisture problem, designed a great front porch, and put a lower belt of stone on the house and around the garage opening to which almost every visitor comments favorably. The work was done expediently and also quite well. There were often times we had a list of ‘to dos” that were completed before we even talked to the workmen. The house has a brand new feel and looks great. It was all we hoped for and more. I would hire Somerset in a heartbeat should I need to do this again. One area that I would be more careful about is that everyone had the same expectations and materials in a written form. + -1 moreI don't think they did enough to level the floor. You could see waves in the floor and it was raised slightly. They did leave one area where it looked like they spilled some of the epoxy and didn't clean it up. I would not necessarily recommend them.

Rick was very punctual for all appointments and helpful in giving ideas about painting and updating the exterior of our home. The Somerset crew showed up on schedule and completed the work within the discussed time frame. The crew was courteous and respectful. Our home was painted a new color, columns were installed and siding was replaced around patio door frame. They did a great job and we are very pleased with the result! The crew had us walk around the house to make sure everything was done correctly. Rick also came by to check to make sure everything was completed to our satisfaction. We would highly recommend Somerset Painting!

+ -1 moreVery well. Rick was very responsive to questions and put us in touch with Matt, his epoxy expert, to discuss our options. Service was delayed somewhat on account of the weather, but as soon as it got sunny and warm enough, Rick called to schedule installation. The work was done promptly over the course of about 3 days and looks tremendous. Matt was also very knowledgeable about the process and explained each step in as much detail as we wanted to hear. We had had concrete floors that unfortunately had a slight grade toward the walls, so that when our cars drove in with water, or especially snow, the water or snow melt would track into the wallboard. We'd been using Car Pads for the past few years, but these had started to leak, and the salt accumulation has been damaging the concrete. The nice thing about the epoxy flooring is that it's self-leveling, so hopefully the water will no longer track toward the walls. In addition, we had a "cove" installed, such that the epoxy was applied from the floor up the baseboards in a continuous layer, so that if some water does track outward, it will be blocked by the cove. Great-looking outcome and very functional, so we got rid of the leaky Car Pads. My one suggestion would be for Rick to provide a written estimate before the work. He and Matt were never anything but trustworthy, but it's still a reasonable expectation to have that estimate beforehand. To be fair, he had wanted to e-mail it to me beforehand but didn't have my e-mail address. Also, Rick didn't originally offer or explain the full chip option, and since we didn't know what options were available, we had to do some research to figure out what the possibilities were. I would suggest that he bring his sample book to initial appointments to show potential customers what types of choices they have. Given the fantastic look of the finished product, there's no reason they wouldn't want to showcase all of the options!

I had an issue a few months later with drips in the bathroom walls. I called Somerset and they came right out (with a paint specialist). It seemed that I showered before the paint had fully cured. Somerset painted the wall again--I waited this time for it to cure and BAM--no more problems!! GREAT COMPANY!

+ -1 moreWe just purchase a new home in Michigan. We had originally lined up another painter (referred to us by the inspector) to do the work but he mysteriously disappeared without any reason. With only a few days to go before closing, we still needed to find a painter. We searched Angie's list and found Somerset Painting (highly regarded) and called Rick, the owner. He understood our problem and agreed to see if he could help. He arranged to have Eric come out to the house that night and give us an estimate. Timing was very important, as we also needed to have the floors done before we moved into the house and had already arranged for them to be there the following week. Eric did a great job of explaining what they could do, providing suggestions, and referring me to their paint supplier (Sherwin Williams) and recommending the best paint (and price) for the work they would be doing. Somerset provided me with a simple agreement that laid out what they would do, and agreed to do the work without a deposit (payment only after complete satisfaction of the work). On the appointed day Eric, along with Scott (the supervisor), Larry and Brian showed up on time and ready to go (Eric even picked up the paint from the Sherwin Williams store that morning). They spent the next 3 days prepping, filling holes, taking down old bookcases, fixing two closets, and painting the house. Eric kept in touch with me and made sure we were happy with the work. They were very polite, professional, completed the job on time and on budget, cleaned up after themselves, and overall they did a great job. The house looks great and my wife and I are very pleased. We want to thank Eric, Scott, Brian, and Larry for doing a great job. And yes, we would definitely recommend them to our friends, and may have them do other work once we settle in and catch our breath.

The manager called later to apologize for the miss-communication, and offered to do the work for free. The next working day, the carpenter showed up to do the work. The work was done promptly, and professionally.

+ -1 moreRick came out for an estimate and was not only professional, but very friendly. After discussing some details we were concerned about, he was able to give us a quote on the spot. While it wasn't the lowest quote we received, and we had to pick up the paint ourselves, the way in which he presented himself and the details he noticed gave us the confidence that his was the right company to hire. There were two painters on-site at all times throughout the day of the job. They also took note of some details that hadn't been previously picked up on (such as not having flat paint for the ceiling) and adjusted their plans accordingly to address those items. The half bath came out beautifully, but the dining room was a little rough, largely due to the amount of trim/chair railing in the room and the vast contrast between a purple wall color and white trim. Rick was glad to send someone back the next day to perform touch-ups. Things still weren't perfect, but they were much improved. Of course, the first house guest we had over the following weekend (my rather detail-oriented mother-in-law) noticed the lines weren't perfect, and so we called Rick again on Monday. Sure enough, he didn't want to leave the impression that his team didn't leave a job until it was done to satisfaction, so he sent another painter out to deliver the final touches. Are the lines absolutely perfect now? No, but they're really darn close, and my wife is thrilled with the way the room looks now. We intend on hiring Somerset Painting again for our next job once we're ready for it.

+ -1 moreOverall, a very good experience. Rick came out to give me an estimate the very day I called. He was through and was able to get me an estimate within an hour of leaving my home. Scott and Eric were at my home within two days of our deciding to go with Somerset. The estimated time for the job was 7-10 days which probably would have been pretty accurate had they not had a few big jobs going at once. I think this was just an unfortunate timing issue. When we originally spoke with Rick, the thought was that there would be 4-5 guys working each day but that didn't always happen and I think that slowed things down for us. The other issue, again related to the number of jobs that were going at once, was that there were quite a few things we had to point out to be fixed, redone, or touched up. Overall, I believe they are conscientious about their work and do a very good job. Either way, they have been really great about taking care of any issues that come up, even weeks after the job is otherwise complete.

+ -1 moreSomerset responded on a Saturday to my voice mail I left that morning. Pete came out and did an estimate on the paint job and also quoted me on other work we were interested in such as redoing a fireplace and boxing in a beam with wood. Pete took pictures and did measurements of the fireplace for his stone worker and had his carpenter Ron did the estimate for the beam and a mantel. I liked how Pete deferred to the experts instead of guessing at prices. Despite Somerset having a slightly higher estimate we decided to hire them because we thought they would do the best work on a difficult job. Tom D'antonio did nearly all the painting for this job. Tom was extremely professional and meticulous. We felt at ease leaving him to work in our home while we were at work. Tom clearly takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows in the results. The first day he spent the whole time doing repair work and patching flawed spots that did not exist to my untrained eye. Before painting began all of my furniture and flooring and cabinets were thoroughly protected. Tom had to put a third coat on to cover the red paint and I really doubt cheaper companies would have done this for us. Tom even helped me change the light bulbs in my garage with his ladder after he had worked a long hard last day at my house. Before leaving Tom let us know that if we found anything we weren't happy with that he would be back to fix it. The end result of the painting is fantastic and we couldn't be happier. We are also looking forward to Somerset to box a beam and and make us a new mantel in the near future which I will review upon completion.
Description of Work: We hired Somerset Painting to paint the ceiling and walls of our kitchen and living room, up the stairs and through the hallways of our house. The job was difficult because it was covering red walls, lots of cutting and high ceilings. The job also required some repair work from leaks and to fill in a cat hole that went to the basement.

Due to the architecture and color of my house, this was near impossible. However, Rick took his time in giving me ideas using paint swatches and informing me of current color trends in my area. During our initial contact, Rick and I agreed that before proceeding with any painting I would need to do some wood repair. He recommended aluminum cladding to address this issue. His contractor came out the next day to start the job. He finished the job in about three days (though not 3 consecutive days). He did an excellent job. I gave a B for punctuality because the contractor failed to show up one day and did not give me any notice. When I had an issue with the job, I discussed it with the owner and he remedied the problem. Overall, though I felt the project was a bit pricey, I am a satisfied customer.

+ 0 moreSomerset Painting is outstanding!! I found them through Angie?s List a few months ago to help paint some rooms in my new house. Rick, the company?s owner, came over and gave me an estimate. The price was reasonable (especially compared to other estimates I received at the same time), and scheduling was fast and easy. They did a great job painting those rooms and made my kids very happy with the new paint colors. The quality of the work was outstanding, and they were very clean. Then last week I had a painting emergency. I was trying to fix up my old house to get it on the market. I patched numerous nail holes in lots of walls throughout the house and then used paint that I had sitting around to paint over the patchwork. Although the paint I used was labeled for specific rooms, it was mislabeled by some different painters that I had used years back. The paint did not match and looked horrible! I was in a huge bind since my foyer, kitchen, family room and every hallway looked awful due to my mistake, and it was not presentable for people looking to buy. I immediately called Rick at Somerset Painting to see if he could help. Rick understood my dilemma and was out the same day to give me an estimate. His estimate was very reasonable, and his team was out the very next day to repaint all of those rooms/halls. It was a quite a job, but Rick and his team got it done very fast. Not only did they complete the job quickly, but the job was done perfectly and exceeded my expectations. I will be hiring Somerset Painting again in the future for sure. They take pride in their work and are very professional. I highly recommend them to anyone who needs painting!
