Somerset Painting & Professional Improvements

Great experience! I called several companies on Wednesday. Rick returned my call the same day and to my relief didn't think the job was "too small," which is what I being was told by other companies. Wes came out the next day (Thursday) to look things over. Rick provided a quote on Friday and the work was completed today (Tuesday). Wes and his team were on time and finished the job within a couple of hours -- re-pitched two gutters, installed a downspout, sealed the flashing, top and chimney sides, power washed one section of mossy siding and roof, and sealed several nicks and chips in the vinyl siding. Wes even noticed a couple of other areas of minor siding and downspout repair and took care of those, too. Even though this job was "small," I've now asked for a quote for additional work in the future. And you can be sure I'll use them for upcoming "big" projects, too!

Rick and Wes (foreman) arrived promptly to give us a bid. They spent over 45 minutes reviewing the work to be done, asking many questions of what we wanted and answering my questions. I was impressed with the amount of time they spent making sure they knew what was needed before giving us a bid. After we accepted their bid, they arrived when they said they would and did beautiful work. My husband and I were both pleased with the finished product.

Called and left a voice mail on Tuesday, received a call back from the owner on Wednesday, explained what we were looking for, he said he would call back to schedule an appointment for an estimate and we never received a call or voice mail message back. After seeing my post here, he contacted me to apologize for the problem and explain the unfortunate but understandable circumstances that led to my call not being returned. He was professional and apologetic, and had we not already decided to go with a different company, we would have had them come give us a quote.

If I ever need help with my house again I will always look to this company first. They worked fast and were very professional.

We were very pleased with Somerset Painting and Professional Improvements. Rick followed up in a timely manner when I first reached out for a quote in May, and Wes came out the same week to take a look at our house and discuss what we wanted done. We did not initially move forward with Somerset because the quote was higher than we anticipated. After reaching out and getting quotes from 5-6 other companies we found that the lowest quote (from a company that was not as timely or professional as Somerset) was within $1500 of Rick's. Once the job began we were pleased with how hard Adam and Tom worked and the quality of the work and the materials. Both Rick and Wes were still responsive via phone, email, and/or text as the job progressed. Adam and Tom were both polite and great at answering any questions, and we were very pleased with the time and effort they put into cleaning up after they finished working each night. When we decided to go with a larger gutter size mid-way through the job, Wes was able to get us the pricing information right away and it didn't delay the work at all. The finished product looks even nicer than we expected.

We were VERY pleased with the work provided by Somerset Painting. We had the exterior of our 1928 cedar shake house entirely repainted, and we had repair work done on the chimney cap. We received bids from several companies, but Rick was the only one who made an appointment and was present for an initial consultation to find out exactly what we wanted/needed done. The bid he submitted was more detailed than any other bid I have seen and left nothing to chance. It was accompanied by license and insurance information. Once we decided to accept the bid, the work was promptly scheduled, and Rick was confident enough in his work that no deposit or down payment was required. The work crew did an AMAZING job of prepping the house - there were almost more bare patches than paint left on the house because they were so thorough in removing lose paint. We have copper gutters and flashing on the house, and the crew was very careful to not get a drop of paint on them. They were very professional and hid their equipment on the side of the house each night until the work was complete. Once the job was finished, Rick came by to inspect the work and make sure we were happy before receiving any payment. We would definitely recommend this company, and we will use them for any future painting needs (although the prep work was so awesome I don't anticipate needing any painting done any time soon). Somerset's bid was definitely the highest of all the bids we received, but there are times when you get what you pay for, and this was one of those times. Also, Rick referred us to Nosh who did repair work on the chimney cap and also replaced some loose brick on the front stoop. Nosh was very prompt and professional, and we are very happy with the repair work. We would recommend Nosh's services and use him again for any masonry work.

Although we were willing to wait, the job was done within a couple of weeks after provider made his inspection. They did an excellent job power washing all the wood, filling holes and gaps and painting the outside of our house which also included the railings of our deck. We have a three floor house so ladders had to go up very high. They were neat, tidy and efficient. No money was asked for until provider had come to check the job.

We are very pleased with the work Somerset Painting provided. Rick came out the day we called, surveyed our home and provided the estimate. His crew was punctual, thorough and efficient. They did a wonderful job. They were very good with clean up after completing their work. Communication with Rick and his painters was effortless, before, during and after the project. They came out again after completion and provided touch up. Our house looks great! We plan on using them again for future projects.

The quote was prompt, detailed and accurate. The team of professional painters was friendly, timely, and did a great job. They really pay attention to the details! Despite the fact they I had not contracted them to paint anything but the trim, they looked at the whole house, and touched up areas on non-trim exterior areas. It looks like the whole house has been freshly painted. They were also extremely neat...no extraneous paint drips or spatters. Rick and his team did an excellent job!

Rick came to do the estimate. He was very professional and friendly and quickly got us a very reasonable estimate. When we had questions about the estimate and needed some expertise to help choose the best paint colors Rick was very helpful. The entire job was completed within 3 weeks of accepting the estimate. Rick did not require us to pay any money until the entire job was finished to our complete satisfaction. The painting crew of Luis and David did excellent work. They were very friendly and suggested several incremental improvements to our original plan and we were very pleased with how it turned out. They were both a pleasure to work with. They spent several days repairing the rotted wood trim and then applied two coats of paint including wood trim and aluminum siding. We are extremely excited about how good our house looks. We give this provider our very highest recommendation.

It went great. We have siding that was recalled years ago because it disintegrates. We were not able to take advantage of the recall and just keep working to keep the siding in good shape. RIck knows a lot about the siding and how to handle prepping and painting it. I think the house looks fantastic. The paint crew were always friendly and helpful. They worked their behinds off to get our house painted during a super rainy season. We would hire them again.

Wes, the crew foreman, demonstrated a high level of expertise identifying the problem and creating a viable solution to ensure against further water incursion and damage. His crew was prompt and professional, even when working in temperatures close to 100 degrees. I really appreciated how Mike, the carpenter, took the time to show me what steps he was taking during the entire process and explain why the problems were occurring. He even did some extra sealing and caulking in questionable areas as he went along. Eric, Wes and the crew were time efficient ( less that1 week from signing the contract and to work completed) and provided excellent customer service!

The experience was great throughout. The initial walk-through for quotation did not seem like a salesperson selling all their add-on work, but instead an earnest look at all the areas of concern, some of which I had not identified when initially calling about the work. The communication throughout the process was exceptional and quick, always same-day. The crew that performed the work was clean, diligent, polite and appeared trustworthy. I have no good measure of efficiency, but they were complete with the work in the time that they stated. They cleaned the job site at the end of each day. After the work was complete, a quality inspection was performed with the gentleman that quoted the job. We identified a few minor areas of concern (nothing critical, and nothing that isn't expected for a whole-home job), a few of which I had not spotted but they pointed out. The response to addressing those issues was prompt, and I never had to have any follow-up with any of my requests, even after final payment was made. I would recommend Somerset Painting and Professional Improvements to friends, family and neighbors. This was a professional experience, and the type of experience that I value when it comes to the upkeep of my home.

The price quoted was $8,360 plus the cost of the paint plus $39.00 per hour for removing 3 rooms of wallpaper. Their quoted price was more than we had originally expected though we've never had a whole house painted before so didn't really know what was appropriate. We weren't required to put any money down and weren't to pay until we were satisfied with the work. The crew (four young men) showed up on time and went right to work. Their prep work was great: they pulled nails from walls (where pictures had been hung) and "mudded" over them and searched for and mudded any nicks in the walls; the "mud" was allowed to dry overnight and sanded smooth the next day; all wood trim to be painted was sanded first; all sanding was wiped off with a damp cloth to remove sanding dust before painting. They even removed for us 4 approximately 15-foot long valence boxes prior to painting. Curtain rods (but not the brackets) were removed and the bases of ceiling lamps were lowered where necessary. Walls that edged up to non-painted areas were taped to be sure that no paint got on the adjoining surface. In a nutshell, they were meticulous. The crew worked diligently with no dawdling and no extended lunch hours. They were friendly and polite and cleaned up after themselves (even running the vacuum) every evening before they left for the day. At the end they replaced curtain rods and would have re-hung curtains except that we were sending them to the cleaners. We'd initially expressed concern that with the crew being paid by the hour for removing the wall paper (as opposed to a flat rate) the bill could be run up easily. The contractor (Rick) said he'd pick up any labor cost over $9,000. In the end the job priced out at $8360 plus not quite $1600 for the paint plus about $1600 for wall paper removal (one room took about 40 hours of combined effort to remove the paper because the walls apparently had not been properly prepped before the paper was put up). The total would have been about $11,060, but Rick picked up the cost of the labor over $9,000 so that we ended up paying the $9000 plus paint--total $10,579. I would certainly recommend them and hire them again.

They did a fine job. We have no complaints. We are quite satisfied, it was a good experience. The pricing was fair.

Rick & West were very professional and fast to respond to our inquiry. Although I'm confident that they would have done a great job on my house, it just wasn't in our budget. This is not going to be our forever home so we were not able to justify the cost and decided to go with another contractor.

We were very happy with the quick turnaround time from call to coming over. He was very professional. We decided to do the work ourselves otherwise we would have used his company. We will definitely call him again for other jobs.

Experience was great. The crew was very friendly, was very clean, cleaned up after themselves, did patch work and did an excellent job. Everything they did was excellent. I have used them in the past as well.

.Painters were very professional, as was Rick (quoted the job). Paint job was good overall. There were some flaws in painting the kitchen cabinets but Rick took a few hundred bucks off due these issues. Overall, I was pleased with the paint job and would hire them again to do future interior painting

Rick was very responsive and scheduled the job quickly. His partner showed up on time and did an excellent job sealing the fence with high quality material. Price was very high given how little time and sealer (7 gals) it took to spray the fence.

Somerset did a huge amount of work on our over-sized ranch. Let me say that NOTHING in our house is standard: it was custom -built in the 1950's, and any repairs have been "exciting". There were constant surprises, and Wes and his crew were calm and professional in dealing with all of them. Given all that they encountered, the overages were minimal, and we were more than happy to pay them. Additionally, we have a severely mentally impaired child, and they had to work around his schedule, as well as clean up PERFECTLY any area he had access to every day. They were very accommodating. Somerset was initially hired to install new siding and exterior paint where necessary. While our house is primarily brick, there is an addition with old cedar shakes that needed new siding, and we have massive eaves that were wood that was rotting. They then came forward with a bid for replacing our horrible 1950's windows (none of which were standard size, of course) that was significantly less than other proposals I had received, so we decided to go ahead with those as well. Getting the old windows out was a nightmare, and they had no option but to damage the plaster around the window interiors, so they ended up repairing and painting those as well. (The old windows had apparently been installed INSIDE the plaster walls, and THEN the exterior brickwork had been added around them!!! It was unbelievable! I still can't believe Somerset managed to get those windows out with no damage to the bricks or the interior marble shelves that were at the base of each window!) The quality of the work is excellent, the house looks great, and so far, our son has not managed to get into any of the problem areas we were concerned about. We would recommend them to anyone. Believe me, we know how challenging our house is.

I had used Rick before one a small masonry job. His sub there was excellent, so when it came time to paint the house, I gave him a call. He was prompt, had me walk the house with him, showed me problem areas and made reasonable suggestions. So we booked his services. The trim guys came first; they pointed out to me that my screened gutters were done wrong and that one of the screens was missing. So I had them fix it. Then the paint crew came. They started at 8 am, let us know they were here, worked very hard and did a terrific job. They prepped the surfaces, sprayed, did a brush coat over that. They used a really bright white, which is fine b/c it will fade, but it made the house glow. The crew chief painted the garage service door and suggested having the half wagon-wheel inset be white not gray. They approached me about other little things that they saw. I find Rick and his guys to be very professional, forthright, easy to work with and they deliver a quality product. There is attention to detail. I mean, what more could you ask for in a contractor.

They were very professional. I think their quote was significantly higher than the other quote I got for the same work. I felt that they were trying to promote more services than I need and I was looking to invest in right now.

They were here at a 8, stayed until they reached a stopping point but nearly 5:00 every day. They cleaned up every day, were very careful with our things, no loud music playing, and it was the same men every day. I will call them again.
