Somerset Painting & Professional Improvements

We were satisfied with the job. Painters were very courteous with our neighbors when they needed access. Owner also made sure the neighbors were satisfied with the painting results on their side. Front door trim painting was a bit sloppy, but painters came back to fix it and to finish painting of the whole frame of the door. Everyone was very courteous and responsive.

Overall, excellent workmanship and customer service! Rick contacted me the same day I submitted a request on Angie?s List. He was at my home the next day and quickly assessed the problem. Rick texted his masonry professional and asked him to contact me. Nosh called me within 30 minutes and was at my home within three hours. Nosh inspected the problem areas, pointed out crumbling mortar in the retaining wall and loose bricks on the porch and steps. He provided a quote and was able complete the repairs that same day. Nosh even fixed the latch on my iron gate ? for free! Rick was absolutely right when he said I would be pleased with Nosh?s work.

The final product seems to be very good. Eric the owner was very responsive. There was a misunderstanding about the quote and what the final number at the bottom of the quote included, this was resolved quickly at a price somewhere in the middle and that I considered satisfactory. -The Siding Repair Crew in my opinion was excellent. They were experienced and explained there solutions for the various issue they were repairing. -The Paint Crew, kind, helpful, and easy to work with and did not have any issue with my questions and inspections. Also the actual paining was done very well with clean lines and no noticeable overspray . However, this team did not seem to be fully up to speed on aspects of the specific job and the companies policies that were given as reading material included with the original quote. While they did complete all the items I pointed out, I felt like the overall job quality would have suffered had I not been around to check up on some of the important prep items (Pointing out items like where caulk should be repaired and places of excessive chalking that needed additional power washing the following day). -The Gutter Crew, good work, quick and to the point. Only issue here was I did not know when they would show. However, I believe this is a subcontracted group that Somerset brings in with a minimum upcharge so I understand that timing was subject to other work they had already scheduled. To the Owners ? a suggestion would be to have the project teams familiarize themselves with the details of the quote and also be regularly updated on company policy, reading through the sales materials that are distributed to customers with emphasize on the section of company policies regarding prep work. It would also have been nice for them to check in at the beginning and ending of the day, when the customer is home (I realize this is not always needed when the customer is not home). To Customer, read the quote carefully and clarify everything up front. Items like garage doors of attached garages, entry doors, shutter removal and hanging are all items that are not included in the quote unless specifically identified and marked on the quote list. Also ensure that any additional improvements that are being subcontracted (like new gutters) are included in the final quoted price. Thanks to Somerset Pain for the hard work. I had several wood work to be done, lots of wood corners issues. Somerset Painting went thru each detail and fixed everything before painting. After painting house looks new, clean and all corners and details was very good. Just like I expected.

The work, and the workers were all polite and highly professional. No payment was requested until after work was completed and deemed satisfactory (which it was). My one complaint was the scheduling of services. I gave leeway on when the work could start as I was in no rush and after 5 weeks had to follow up to find out when I was on the calendar. When the work started the mason and painters didn't align and almost came the same day as well.

This company does not do powerwashing. Should be removed from description.

Somerset Painting did a great job. Work was performed well with a reasonable price and on-time. Innovative ideas were suggested and necessary repairs were made as well. No complaints. I would recommend Rick and Somerset Painting again.

The service was excellent. Bill, one of the sales managers, was excellent, professional and always communicating with us as to what was going to happen next. This was indeed a super plus! He was very patient as we kept postponing the job since we were out of town a lot this summer. He worked with us, our needs, our schedule, our desires and most especially our budget! The process was so pleasurable from beginning to end. Bill was always attentive to what was going on even though he was juggling many other projects at the same time. The prepping and painting job was quick, clean, efficient and professional. Jonathan and Christopher were not only great workers but were so polite and left every thing spick and span and listened to my input every step of the way. I highly recommend these sub-contractors if you have a choice. Not only do Jonathan (foreman) and Christopher work excellent together but they have many, many years of experience under their belt. Overall we must say Somerset has done excellent quality work, has been extremely professional and all involved in the process have been very kind to work with. A real breath of fresh air in the world of contractors and home repair. All those we have dealt with prior have been a nightmare. I highly recommend Somerset painting and home improvement to friends and family and we will surely use them in the future! It was money well spent; a true investment!!!

The project was great. Rick was very helpful in assisting with color selection which is always tough when painting the whole exterior based on a 4 inch color swatch. The end result was perfect. We had the entire exterior of our house painted including the garage. One guy did the whole outside of our house in a 2 week period. He was very diligent in the prep work and communicated effectively with us when he ran into issues or had questions.

This is our second time using Somerset and we have been extremely pleased with the professionalism from the first contact to the last. First of all, two and a half years ago, I called numerous local painters to get some quotes on painting our home. Somerset was the only company to call us back. NONE of the other company's contact ever returned my calls. Second, Rick uses technology to his benefit including emails, texts and calls to keep in touch with me and with his crew. Amazing! Third, last year and this year we had two different crews at the house painting. Both crews were extremely professional and conscientious in their work and their cleanup. Finally, final inspection. Rick came out and inspected the job his crew did and made sure we were happy and we are extremely satisfied. Now, I have no more rooms to paint and my home looks the way I'd like it. BUT I found out that Somerset does siding and gutter and windows and more, so I'm confident that I'll be using them in the future for more work on our home.

Spent a lot of time with Rick coming up with a plan for the home. Team was here when he said they would be and they were here every day until the job was done. The house looked much better once painted!

The same two painters did the entire job over a one week period. They were polite and explained everything in advance. They were the more expensive of the quotes I received and I chose them because a) the home I bought had been neglected on the exterior and was damaged from the elements, b) the owner went above my expectations and took an interest in making sure the job was done right, & c) this company gives back to the communitiy, nationally and internationally, which seems to be a rare thing these days. Eric checked with me on how it was going and encouraged feedback. My painters, John and Thomas, were always happy to redo something, discuss options, anything they could do to make me happy.While they were quite young for experienced painters, i was pleased in the end with their work. My windows are very old and some debatingly ready for replacement; they put ALOT of time and effort working on them. When I wasn't entirely pleased with the results, they kept coming back until I was happy. Always gracious and pleasant. They cleaned up every day, watched the weather constantly to make sure they weren't painting just before the rain hit. My home is in MUCH better shape now and well protected from the elements that had damaged it before I bought it. One window was too damaged and repaired too many times; they pointed that out as I would not have recognized that. I felt comfortable leaving my home open and unlocked when I needed to leave as I felt they were trustworthy. I also found the paint color assistance before the job was started very helpful; I sent Naomi pictures of my home and color combinations I was considering, and she would promptly send back images of what those details would look like on my home. My home turned out better than I could have hoped and the paint colors were exactly what I had dreamed of.

Was not impressed with images provided. I could have done the same using paint app on pc. I also had to follow up a couple of times to get images after the consultation. In the end, I was automatically given a refund.

From the initial call back from Eric Regan to the follow up and guys that painted, calked and replaced some of the rotted siding on the house-these guys were top notch. I was under the gun to get my home painted before a weekend outdoor BBQ and Eric said he would try his best to schedule me in. He got back to me within a day and said he would have a crew out to the house by Tuesday. Tuesday morning and right on time the crew showed up and started power washing, scraping, prepping etc. By Friday the house looked incredible. This was in addition to a major storm on the Thursday that put the guys back a day. I can say that I never have had such a detailed quote as I had from Somerset. Very informative and a step by step process that was explained in detail. These guys are true professionals on all fronts. Before the crew left a thorough walk through was performed and after a few minor touch ups the job was done -the house showed incredibly well for the Saturday BBQ.

I cannot say, since the company has never shown up to inspect the necessary work. I tell them when I am available and invariably, the company suggests a time when I am not available. This is a major source of my frustration, namely Somerset's inability to listen to the needs of their customers! What gives with these guys?The company will either call me repeatedly specifically when I am not available or ignore the times that I suggest when I can meet with them. I got after them previously when I may have been too critical of Somerset. I changed my review and made it milder but I was indeed right the first time in my assessment of Somerset. They do not listen and their follow through is very poor or more precisely non-existent. Again, I am not at this company's beck and call and I cannot meet with them on the fly or when they may be in my area. I have told them repeatedly to confirm a mutually convenient time and not one based exclusively on their schedule. Afterall, I am the customer.

Surprisingly, everything went smoothly beginning to end. Every part of the process was very professional... from scheduling the quote thru the work and billing. Jim was the lead on our house and he kept us in the loop on how things were going. He found some additional wood repairs and promptly gave us the pricing to fix, so we had no surprises. They did a great job, with the only minor complaint being paint chips and dripped paint in the landscaping... but I suspect we'd get that with any painter. Jim also stopped over on a rainy morning and patched a 1'x1' hole in the entryway ceiling where we had to cut away for water damage. We can't even tell where the spot was now. We will use Somerset again when the time comes!

Eric came right away (the next day after our call in early April) and quoted. We were flexible on start date so agreed on June. The crew arrived as scheduled and got right to work. Fantastic quality. Very friendly and professional. The weather outside was very wet the days they were here and some mud was tracked in. Also a small paint splash on the stair carpet. Eric was very apologetic and reduced the bill. All in all a great job and great value.

Somerset Painting did great job from the initial contact through the final invoice. They provided a quote within 3 days, and the quote included details and break-outs of each item so I could chose items a la carte. Their prices were competitive, and they took the time to understand exactly what I wanted and needed. The work was done in a timely fashion, and they checked in multiple times to ensure I was satisfied with the work.

We hired Somerset to paint the upper portion of our house which is existing cedar shake. In the end, the painting job looks nice but I didn?t feel that it was a smooth process. There was a lack of communication during the project. The project kicked off with an email one day while I was already at work asking if the guys could power wash. That was ok with me, but it didn?t give me an opportunity to do any prep work (move cars, open gate) prior to them showing up. There was also nothing done to cover our landscaping and paint chips were everywhere. I expected some (the house had terrible peeling paint) but nothing nearly as bad as it was. The company did remedy this by cleaning as much as they could and buying us replacement mulch. There seemed to be a misunderstanding between the project team and us, about what type of wood repair work was to be done and the extent. During the initial walk through I mentioned cedar shake replacement, even offering that we could provide them. None of this was done ? they were all painted prior to any repair or replacement. Repair was only done when I mentioned it for a second time, after a 2 week time frame of not hearing from anyone. I never knew when the painters were going to show up and the whole process dragged on for about 5 weeks (some of which was weather related). I felt like a pest and had to keep bringing up items that had not been addressed. If I had the chance to do this again, I would have requested a walkthrough with the project manager and painters on day 1, so everyone was clear of the project scope. I would not have relied only on the brief walkthrough done on the quote visit. This was originally going to be a DIY project and while I?m grateful for the time he didn?t have to spend, I?m not entirely convinced that hiring out the job left us with end results different than what my husband could have done himself. Overall, I felt as if the contract I signed called out the project much more thoroughly and detailed than the work that was performed.

Quote overall went well but knew up front he was going to quote it high by saying his team would do things I don't need done - their way of going above and beyond... Quote for exterior trim on my house and garage was $8,000, crazy. It was an insult to quote such a small job that high. If your group is too busy that you are going to charge that high, then don't take the estimate. Such a waste of time having to leave work early for it. I've since had more reasonable estimates. - After review published - matter was reviewed and was discovered that my quote was switched with a client quoted before me. Was notified and apologized to for the mistake. Thanks Somerset!

We moved into our house about 2 months ago. Going into the purchase we knew we had one major issue with the house. The siding was in poor condition with faded paint and water damage. Rick provided us a written estimate to support the findings of our home inspector to help justify the offer on the house. A couple of months went buy with closing and moving in. I contacted Rick and the price was still good. Naomi helped my wife colorize the photos of the home. We agreed on a final price and his crews were out about 2 weeks later. Painters, siding and gutter teams all worked one after another to get our home done quickly. We could not be happier with the result. We've had about 6 neighbors stop by to let us know they appreciate the improvement to the neighborhood. Great price, great work ethic and professional results. We look forward to working with Somerset again.

The company has since responded and I believe will complete the work to my satisfaction.

Eric was very polite, professional and intelligent. He was able to provide solutions to my questions and I look forward to doing business. This review is modified from it's original status as there were some communication issues between Eric and trying to get in touch with me via email. Everyone is human an makes mistakes - Eric was swift and professional to rectify the issue and I believe that it is a great example of the character of Somerset Painting in general. Once again - I look forward to doing business in the future.

Based on my schedule, I've decided to do the project differently, but I'll definitely reach out to Somerset for future projects.

I purchased the Angie's List "Big Deal;" but really selected Somerset Painting because of their great reviews. I was not disappointed! Naomi called me within minutes of the purchase to discuss the job. Chad called the next day and scheduled a time to review the area for repair. I also had asked him to repair a damaged board on the chimney chase that was probably damaged by a woodpecker or other critter. He agreed to do the repair and the additional cost was reasonable. Chad and James came out the next day and completed both repairs exhibiting a great deal of knowledge and skill. After the repairs were completed, they cleaned up the area. Overall, their communications, professionalism, timeliness, workmanship, and customer satisfaction were excellent. I will contact Somerset Painting for future jobs.
