Somerset Painting & Professional Improvements

Company was upfront about the start date and cost from the beginning. They sent out an employee right away to provide us with an estimate and drew up a contract. Great discounts were also available if we waited until after the fall to begin work since it was all interior work. Once we scheduled a start date, the workers showed up on time, worked efficiently and were done in only two days. We had a small issue with the new exhaust fan making noise, so they returned to fix it promptly and efficiently.

Clean, precise, calked the seal. Came early, stayed late, Fast in scheduling appointment. Highly recommended.

The initial contact was very efficient, returning my call promptly and setting the estimate appointment. Eric was very thorough when reviewing what needed to be done. The estimate came in close to a second estimate I received but, given the discounts and the Angie's list rating, we chose Somerset. There was an initial glitch with setting up the starting date. I'm not sure what would have happened if they had shown up as scheduled if I hadn't sent a 'status update' email. The guys arrived within 15 minutes of the promised time each day. Their attitudes and work were professional and I especially liked that they cleaned up after themselves. Although all issues were fixed promptly, it bothered me a bit that I had to point them out. I would think that the painters would notice when something they did caused a problem and repair it on their own initiative. All this being said, I would still hire them again and have recommended them to neighbors.

Even though we didn't end up choosing a company to do the painting, if I HAD chosen someone, it would have been Somerset Painting, hands down. Every interaction we had with Somerset Painting was incredible. I was delighted and impressed with their punctuality, professionalism, and really felt like they were invested in my project. They were willing to work with us, even when our circumstances were outside of the norm. That kind of attitude is worth so much when you are trusting your home to someone. :)

The initial contact with the company was very professional and an appointment for an estimate was very easy to establish. The estimator took his time during the visit and provided a very thorough estimate with complete explanations of the work. We received an email document that included everything exactly as discussed during the in-person estimate. When the work was performed, the workers were extremely professional, thoroughly competent, and left their work areas spotlessly clean. We were completely satisfied with the job they performed. I very highly recommend Somerset painting. It is a very good example of: you get what you pay for. They are well worth the price.

We initially had a scheduling mix-up so the job was delayed, but Eric Regan was very responsive to the problem. He got the job back on schedule and I could not be more pleased with the outcome. A very professional organization.

We could not be happier with the work Adam and the crew from Somerset did on our porch. The before and after pictures speak for themselves. Initially we were getting estimates from various companies for siding or paint. When Rick came by, he saw the potential of the porch and said if we were ever going to do it that it would be good to do before siding the house. Rick had one of his guys Adam come by to quote the project and talk through some ideas. After talking with Adam and some of the ideas he had, we were ready to go. Throughout the process, we mainly worked with Adam who walked us through every step of the way. He worked with us a LOT on how to get something that looked great yet was still manageable on cost. He found some ways to save us money either by using some scrap siding he had leftover (which we loved anyway!) or by only using composite in certain areas and wood elsewhere. On top of that, he brought us into the design decisions and talked us through pros and cons at each step, always letting us choose what we wanted to do. The attention to detail Somerset puts into their work is really what sets them apart. In this project, Adam must of spent an entire day putting together the stairs, only to be unhappy with how it came out and starting over. It really means a lot when a contractor can set very high standards of themselves and work endlessly to get it right. Highly recommend!!

We were very happy with the whole process. James was excellent. Professional, very particular about the job and was a pleasure to have in our home. He did a great job with everything and we will definitely use Somerset again.

Somerset Painting and all of their employees were extremely helpful, responsive and did an overall excellent job. They communicated with us each day about their arrival times and plans. They went above and beyond to be sure we were happy with our results. The work was done beautifully. Anytime we had a question or when we needed advice about colors etc., they answered quickly and with great insight. We are so happy we hired them and would absolutely hire them again.

When first contacted Rick returned the call promptly and scheduled the estimate. The estimate was completed immediately on site and the work was able to be scheduled in the next few weeks. The work was completed in three days with clean up at the end of each day. When the work was completed there was not a single detail overlooked and I could not find a single item that was not completed neatly and professional. I would definitely call Rick for any exterior siding or gutter work.

The painters were great to work with. ?The communication was great and they double checked everything before it was painted. ?We needed the painting done by a certain time and they were able to accommodate us. ?They matched colors perfectly. ?All in all it was a very good experience, I had no complaints.

Painting a 3-story Queen Anne Victorian home in the historic district of Grand Rapids is not without it's hurdles. Complying with the requirements of the historical district can be cumbersome. And then there's us. The clients. Being GenXers, we live by the maxim "if you want something done right, do it yourself." We've painted our home ourselves for 20 years and have really specific and high expectations about quality of work. Imagine our delight when the job was completed and exceeded our expectations. | |Shane was our on sight contractor and his care for our concerns was genuine. He made it easy to let go and stand back while he and his crew did the work. (well, it took a few days but we did eventually let go. mostly.) | |Rich and Kim were attentive to our needs and concerns right from the start. I never felt like there was a question whether we were important. There was always the feeling that this job was the most important job they had.

The end result was acceptable however the path traveled was painful. We originally contracted with Somerset to paint our house on July 8th and the work was not even started until September4th. There was no advance notice that there crews would be showing up and they arrived on the Thursday/Friday of Labor Day weekend. There was supposed to be coordination of our gutters being removed and the house being painted which did not occur. In fact, they tore our gutters half off and left them hanging on our house for weeks before the final gutters were installed. The crews did not cover any landscaping and left the property with paint chips all over the landscaping (still not completed). There was no direct supervision by Somerset and I had to play the role of foreman throughout the job to make sure the house was completed with quality. There were numerous instances where the crew missed entire windows and also didn't prime the wood which bled through. The job was not completed until late September and no final walk through was completed. The house looks great but the process was extremely unprofessional and very painful which was not what we expected.

Painters were punctual and professional. They cleaned up at the end of each day, and even vacuumed after all the painting was completed. They even came back and touched up areas after some furniture delivery men marred a few walls. I'm very pleased with the whole experience. Highly recommended and I will be using them again.

Rick came out promptly to see what work was involved and put together a quote. Prior to the appointment, he sent his builders license, workers comp and liability information. The team was professional, and Luke met with me to identify colors and discuss what needed to be done. The guys were professional, on time, great at communicating what was done the first day and to call if I didn't like the work or colors. They always kept me informed of the progress. I have had bad experiences in the past and Somerset Painting restored my faith in contractors.

I held off doing this review to see how the work held up over a year (It did). Contractor did a fantastic job overall. Price was second highest out of 4 estimates (one was astronomical, one was VERY low, and Somerset and one other were in between about $500 apart). The cost was fair based on having gone through all this previously with multiple estimates about 9 years ago. Owner Eric Regan was personable, knowledgeable, and easily reached by text throughout the project. Basically the work was done by a two man crew with an occasional third man, all of whom worked hard thorough out the project. I was told this project would probably take about a week for the outdoor work, and two days for the interior. The interior work was conducted first when things got rainy and they had to put another client's exterior project on hold. My wife had a deadline for the interior completion due to planned family events at the house, and they made it happen (THANKS!!) at their first opportunity. The interior stuff ended up taking two full days a the morning of a third. In the end it looked great, the wife was happy, and they cleaned up after themselves thoroughly. The exterior also took a bit longer than expected start to finish (about 2 weeks total vs. 1 week), Again, the guys seemed to be working hard, but rain cost us a about 2 days to no-one's fault. A couple of times the guys arrived later than expected (late morning or noon-ish) due to issues at another jobsite. I was kept in the loop by Eric Regan for most of these scheduling adjustments. As I was not rushed on this project, the completion ETA was not an issue for me and i was satisfied regardless of the project timeling extension. Overall Somerset did a GREAT job. Would definitely use them again. I have given their info out to neighbors and family in the metro area when asked, and i don't do that kind of thing lightly.

Fantastic! First, Eric the owner actually answered his phone every time I called, even in the evenings, and came out the very next day for a quote. He was through, and was very willing to work with me as I was wanting to do some of the prep myself. They were originally scheduled out 2 weeks, but called and said another job was pushed out, and offered to come 1 week early. The timing worked great for us, as we were getting new carpet. Chris the painter did an amazing job, very professional, and the work is impeccable. He We have cathedral ceilings and the master bedroom has lots of tricky angles and exposed decorative joists, and every line was cut perfectly. He was able to finish the job in two days, even staying late to make sure everything was complete and perfect before the carpet came. I would definitely hire this team again in the future!

Rick and his Somerset team are great to work with. Very friendly and responsive. They've done some other work on our house and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to them for more work. Rick sees himself as a "servant" here to help homeowners with any home improvements. We had a mold issue in our home and when we tore apart the wall, realized that the wall never had the proper backing or insulation. Even though his team was very busy, Rick worked with us on scheduling and price so that we could get our home fixed on time and on budget. His team was clean, thorough and friendly. There was one issue with the caulking/sealing around where the siding met the chimney, but they came out and fixed it. All in all, great company to work with.

Spoke with Somerset about an issue with an improperly sealed siding opening next to a gutter from a previous contractor. Somerset was honest and gave me advice on how to quickly take care of the issue myself. I appreciate that they did not try to sell me services I did not need.
