Somerset Painting & Professional Improvements

Description of Work: We replaced all the door walls and windows on the back of our house on all three levels. Since this was a major project, we were happy to return to Somerset, whom we have used for previous work. Rick contracted the work with Wes who had an excellent crew assigned to this job. It took close to 3 weeks to complete as it involved raising up a beam to support the main floor, removing and replacing 18 doors and windows, as well as all the trim around them. Then they had to stain all the trim. The crew was competent and friendly, always making sure they were not inconveniencing us as they worked. As we have two very friendly dogs, they even made sure the dogs came in and out as needed. We are thrilled with the quality and look of the work. When we are ready to replace the windows on the front of the house, we won't hesitate to use Wes again. They did a great job of clean-up as well.

Description of Work: The guy came out looked at my house and never got back with me - no phone call or email. In addition the prices he stated when he was out there were thousands over other painters on Angie's list. Oh well on to the next painter.

Description of Work: Top notch job. Painted all exterior wood trim, wrap around porch rails, and repaired rotted/missing trim. Rightly assessed what necessary. Quick quote. Reasonable prices. Excellent prep work leading to solid job. Ultimate question, would I hire again? Yes. Will I consider for interior job, yes!

Description of Work: Contractor came out to inspect my house on 5/1/13, he determine the siding on the house was too old to power wash and it may cause the paint to peel.

Description of Work: I had two companies come out to provide interior paint quotes on a new home that my wife and I purchased. One company didn't even show and the other seem as if they didn't have there stuff together. I was recommended by word of mouth that Somerset Painting did great work and that they did. Pete and his crew showed up on time and were very professional. They were actually able to work around my schedule(I work from 8-8) and came out on a Sunday to do the job. I would recommend Somerset Painting to anyone who appriciates professionalism, phemonenol work and competitive pricing. BP

Description of Work: Rick is a very very professional painter. I needed a professional opinion on a botched faux job. While Rick is not a faux painter, he promptly called back and texted me with a referral. He was also very courteous.

Description of Work: Purchased Angie's Big Deal $99 for two hours of siding repair due to having several pieces of siding needing to be reattached. Owner reached out immediately, then did not get back to me, but both he and his supervisor apologized and were good with follow-through to schedule visit to estimate work and complete repairs. They kept me informed of work and took care of repairs. I asked that they look over the exterior or my home to see if anything else needed to be done and fully expected they would submit some suggested repairs. Their honest assessment was that everything else was in good shape and no further work was needed. For the time spent on the intitial consult and repairs, $99 was a good deal. I will keep in mind for any future needs.

Description of Work: Rick estimated a siding job on our 1500 sq ft brick ranch. I thought estimate was high $6600. It was for soffit and facia, as well as door trim. They also inspected and replaced any gutters that were damaged. I waited a few months to write the review, but can say we were pleased with job Wes did and really appreciated tips and guidance he offered during the ordeal. It looks nice and is surely maintenance free. They also installed a couple of outdoor lights. I believe they are a good company to use.

Description of Work: Somerset did an excellent job in the following: Exterior power washing and painting. Rick, the owner was very knowledgeable in providing the quote and noticed things that the other contractors had not. They did an excellent job. The painters were responsive to all of our requests and did not get paint on windows, screens etc. Somerset reffered us to a masonry contractor that also did an excellent job. They replaced all items that had been removed from the house for painting. When they were all done the house looked great. We would use them again for other painting needs and would recommend them to others. Rick returned our calls promptly. The painters showed up when they said they would and kept us advised as to the progress of the job and estimated completion date.

Description of Work: I wanted to bite my tounge but had to share my experience when I saw Somerset Painting offered as another Angies List Big Deal. I had Rick out to give us estimates for interior and exterior painting in the spring of 2011. True to the other reviews he was responsive and easy to work with. Shortly after receiving his quotes we purchased a previous Angie's list Big Deal for Somerset to perform 8 hours of painting (valued at $800) and thought - wow this great. I realize that the Big Deal was for 1 painter for 1 day, but the value was $800 - the same as I had been quoted for the entire hallway job. Once the painters came out to the house (scheduling was a hassle by the way) they indicated that it would be at least a 3-4 day job and there would be additional cost. In one day, two painters painted the trim, that's it, and the job was average at best. Then to get the rest of the job done the games began. It became very clear, very quickly that the Angies List Big Deal was nothing more than a bait and switch tool for Somerset to get more money to do the job that should have been covered. After haggling back and forth, I decided to fire Somerset with the job undone and find someone else to finish. $399 to have trim painted - not a good deal in my book. I know there are many positve reviews for Somerset and maybe my job was just the one in a hundred to go wrong, but it went very wrong and everyone should know before working with Somerset.

Description of Work: Rick, pays attention to detail and gives you more than one option to tackle a job. I have LP siding which takes a lot of prep work to seal everything up before you paint. Rick came out to look at my house while I was at work and sent me a detailed email with photos explaining my options. He keeps a close eye on the progress and you can call or email him whenever. The guys he has working with him have been with him for years and it shows. Luis painted the outside of my house like it was his own. I had to have some siding replaced and everything was included in the quote and Somerset stayed true to the quote. Also if Somerset doesn't do it themselves you can trust Rick's recommendations. I also had my gutters cleaned and some cement work done on my porch using his recommendations. If you are getting quotes and find his may be a little higher, it's worth it, these guys are professionals and honest. Here is a good example; There was some rotten wood on my roof that only could be seen from my neighbors upstairs window. They fixed it where some fly by night company hiring kids for the summer may have overlooked it. Plus I have a colonial with a walk out. They had some high places they needed to get to and a lot of siding to fix and paint. Bottom line Somerset does not just slap paint on your wall or outside of your house and call it a day. It's the prep work that makes a difference and they know what they are doing.
