Family friend used Riemer for hardwood floor in condo. I'm getting kitchen and dining in home done by someone, not riemer (about 400 sq ft) and tile in the laundry room. I spoke with sales person on Weds afternoon to get an estimate, with the understanding that someone would have to come out and measure to finalize the quote. I though I'd get a call back that evening with the quote. It's now Saturday and nothing. I guess they have enough business there and can't be bothered to follow-up. I'm not going to call and beg someone to take my money. I was ready to pull the trigger and get it done, now I have to find someone else. Got the quote 6 days later.

Our quote system shows we provided nine different quotes for this client from 5/22 to 6/22 and as of today 7/26 you have not placed an order for anything. Seems to be a bit of indecision with this project on the consumers end.

Your note did not include any contact information so I am not able to discuss the situation directly with you. However based on the little information given I think you were looking for installation of material that you purchased somewhere else. Our policy is to only install products that we have sold. The reason for this is we know where the product came from, how it was manufactured, the installation specifications, how it was shipped and what condition it was received in. Hardwood must be acclimated correctly to avoid job site issues. Many of the box and liquidator type stores do not take adequate precautions in this matter. Some even store the material outdoors! We work with vendors that have passed the requirements for sustainable forestry. Sustainable forestry is defined as managing our forest resources to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs In addition our vendors must meet our standard for customer satisfaction which means standing behind their product in the event of a problem, up to and including replacement of the product. The manufacturer will not be able to blame it on the installer because we use certified installers that install flooring to the manufactures exacting specifications. Because of this relationship we act as our customers advocate in any dispute resolution. We are not able to support our clients in this manner if we are not providing the materials. We are a family owned and operated business for over 67 years in the Metro Detroit area. I am sorry you did not receive the service you anticipated. However, there is always a Riemer in the building. If we can be of service in the future please ask for one of us and we will make sure you receive the best service in town. Paul Riemer VP

The installation went without a problem, although they had a lot of work to do around a jagged fireplace. It took three days. The workers did a good job and were careful and cleaned up every day before they left. We are very pleased with the way it came out and would recommend them The only negative was the cost but I knew what I was getting into, but at the beginning, I did not plan on spending as much as I did.
Description of Work: I had gone into their store a few times as well as other stores before making a decision. The last time, I spoke to Karl, one of the salesman, who came out to measure and bring samples. When he came out and heard what I wanted, he suggested other options. I agreed with him on a hardwood that I had not considered. He did the measurements, ordered the wood and set up the time that he would have the wood delivered. At first, it looked like he could not get all the wood in the time frame I requested but he did!!

This is the third time over the past 25 years that we have used Riemer Floors in our home. We appreciated that the salesman is not high pressure sales. The person who installed the floors did a good job but we did notice later a few minor problems. They came out immediately and made the improvements. They also ensured us that if we call with any problems in the future they will be taken care of immediately. We love the floors and look forward to completing the project in the other two rooms with Riemers.

They were prompt. They were up front with any possible cost overruns. They were easy to contact and kept us updated on the progress of the job. The installed was friendly, experienced and let us know what he was doing before he proceeded. Although there was a small problem with the trim. The problem was resolved without any difficulty. After the work was complete we not only received a call to see if everything was satisfactory, but we also received a Thank You note from Kimberly Riemer for letting her company do the work.. What more could you ask.

Went great. After talking to the salesman, we thought we were going to have to move out for a few days while the concrete cured, the tile was set, and possibly the grout was done. The tile was going to be placed at all entrances to our colonial home, so we thought we wouldn't even be able to get upstairs to the bedrooms. When Dan showed up for the installation, we found immediately that we would not have to move out at all and he could arrange the work to always have access to our stairs. We were very specific about how we wanted the tile to line up with one wall. Even though the installers didn't agree with our decision, they had no problem doing it the way we asked. I was told that Riemer requires there tile and wood installers to have at least 10 years experience. They weren't sure about the carpet installers since there tends to be a high turnover in that job. If it is true, Riemer should market that fact a little better. I didn't know that before looking for new floors. Nor did I know it after talking with, and placing the order with, the salesman. About the only complaint I heard from friends and family is that Riemer was priced to high. We had three quotes and while Riemer was the highest, they were not exorbitantly higher than our other quotes.

You may recall we met in the showroom while Lauren was working on your quote. I appreciate the kind words about our installers. I reviewed the three installations we performed for you. Our ceramic installer has been with us close to 30 years and has done a number of jobs in my own home. The carpet installer is second generation and has been with us for almost 20 years. His crew is made up of his sons! I took them to Harbor Springs last year to install a client’s retirement home that had to be perfect. The hardwood installer is a finished carpenter by trade with a keen eye for detail. You are correct the quality of our installers it is what sets us apart. We try to include certified installations in all our advertising. I will make a point of emphasizing this with our staff. I hear the price comment all the time. We work for large national builders and regional builders on a daily basis. We know what it means to be competitive. We leverage the buying power of those relationships to bring value to our residential remodel customers. Thanks for your comments and suggestions Paul Riemer

I interviewed five companies/contractors before I chose Reimer. Reimer was not the chespest but based on their Angie's List ratings and their length of time in the business and the initial salesman Barney I felt if cost would get me excellent service and workmanship that was the way to go. I am sorry to report that I did not get excellent service from this company. I was scheduled to have the laminate installer come on Friday June 15 to begin what was to be two days of laminate installation in my masterbedroom and guest bedroom. I was called on June 13 by Paul Riemer who left me a message telling me that Barney had made a mistake and that the installer "Todd" would not be able to start my job till Monday June 18. I understand that mistakes happen but the fact that I was living with subfloors had been a factor in my decision to choose Reimer as they had said they could start within 2-3 days. In addition Mr. Reimer's message did not contain the prhase "I'm sorry for the inconvienence." "I apologize"...no expression of regret on his part only the fact that they would not begin my installation till Monday. I called and spoke to Paul Riemer and told him I'd gotten his message and that it created an issue as I had an appt to take my car to the dealer that Monday at 8am which was the same time they had scheduled the installer. I ended up cancelling my car appt. and after all that Todd did not show up till about 9:15am, he said he's had to go get supplies....no apology for my inconveinence. Todd commenced to installing the laminate and at some point it began to rain. I opened up my garage to him so he did not have to work in the rain. Well half my belongings are stored in the garage as I could not move them into the bedrooms due to having no floors. This included large wardrobe boxes, artwork, bike, and other items one would normally keep in a garage. Mike failed to cover my belongings up and as a result there was sawdust all over my garage and belongings. I asked him why he had not covered my things up and he said "It wouldn't have done any good you can't stop it." ME = Dumbfounded at this ridiculous answer. To top it off he left a large coffee cup he'd been drinking from righ smack on my lawn. I called to complain and told them I did not want him to return to my home. I requested they send someone to clean the garage as I did not think I should have to clean up his mess nor should I have to track sawdust back into my house. Well they sent a young man to clean the garage and he did clean it but only after I had to go and point out to him the sawdust he had failed to remove this took 3 tries. Who knew 55 year old eyes were better than 22 year old eyes? They sent "Mike" to finish installing the backordered trim he came on time and commenced to working and after about an hour he told me he was finished and I could come see his work. I inspect his work and I immediatly see that the trim is cracked where he has nailed in a tack. I say to him "This is cracked.". He replies " That happens sometimes, it will be ok." I respond "Sir no it is not ok I just bought this trim and it should not be cracking upon installation. I found another tack that was protruding out from the trim to the point that someone could have been injured by it. Mike tries to convince me that I just don't understand the installation process. I then say to him "why is it that the other installer managed to install the trim without it cracking?" As I am in mid sentence he walks away from me. ME = Is this really happening to me? I called Riemer's and spoke with Kerry (she and the carpet installers were the only professionals I dealt with at this company,) She told me that the Assistant Manager was responding within 30 minutes to handle my concerns. The Assistant Manager Steven McNamara came and I told him what transpired and then we both went to review the Mike's work. Steve looks at the cracked trim in the master bedroom and tells me "Well Mike told you right this does happen with laminate, if you had bought real wood the wood can handle the tacks." ME = YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I say to Steve "Sir are you trying to tell me that I bought undamaged trim and your installer damages it and that is considered "job well done". He looked in the supply box and saw there was spare trim and said to me "You have extra trim we can replace this if you want." ME = "If I want?" Isn't this what I paid you for? In any case when I refused to accept this reasoning he became upset with me and would not even look me in the eye while he was speaking to me. At this point I just really wanted anyone associated with Riemer to be on the outside of my home but I had to get the trim finished and they had half my money. He wrote out a list of things that Riemer was going to do to finish the job which included their buying back unused laminate and trim. Steve apparently thought this made up for the unsatisfactory service I'd gotten re the laminate installation to this point. I told him that his "proposal" did not make us even and he asked what would make us so. I said I would think on it and let him know. He then wanted me to sign the "proposal" and was really not liking the fact that I refused to do so. I ended up writing Steve an email that said all I wanted from Riemer was for them to complete my laminate installation professionally in terms of workmanship AND customer service. To top it off I was told I needed to buy laminate to cover the transfer from my master hallway into the bathroom. There is a marble transfer piece already there and apparently they planned to fill it in with caulk but this was NEVER explained to me by either installer and this area had just been left bare with a gap between the two rooms. ???? For the record the carpet installer Sam and his sons were punctual, personable, professional and the carpet looks great. The final result my laminate floors look great and I am satisfied with them. I am not happy with the process it took to get them though. Mistakes happen but when a company tries to tell me that shoddy workmanship is good workmanship then that is an integrity issue and for that reason I would not hire Riemer for my future flooring needs.
Description of Work: I hired Riemer to install laminate wood flooring in masterbedroom and gust bedroom and closets and to install carpet on the stairway to the second floor. App. 600 sqf. total. I was told that they did not have all the trim necessary to complete my install and that the trim was on two week backorder. The plan was to put in the flooring and the trim that was available and then return when the rest of the backordered trim arrived.

After over 60 years in the Floor Covering business, I’m deeply saddened by this consumers review of their flooring experience at Riemer. We strive to get the best personel on every job. In this case, we had our best installer, service technician, and service manager involved in to complete the job to the consumers satisfaction. While the end result was complete satisfaction, there were a number of issues that did not meet the consumers expectations. Our best wood/laminent installer was provided for the installation of the consumers job. The installer met with the consumer and the sales person prior to installation to inspect the consumers bare floors. The purpose of that meeting was to determine if there were any subfloor issues that needed to be addressed prior to the installation. The call to change the installation date was left on the consumers voice mail. When she returned the call the next day, an apology for the sales persons error was given. A review with the consumer explaining why the job would be delayed was discussed. ( We needed the same installer that provided the pre installation inspection to perform the installation.) The four other companies from whom the consumer was getting estimates did not offer this service. Installation was confirmed by our staff with the consumer for June 18th, estimating a start time between 8 and 10 am. The installer arrival at 9:15am meeting the given time window. Installation of all wood and laminate flooring creates dust. Weather permitting, all cutting is done outdoors. For safety reasons, rain forces the cutting (electricity) of materials indoors. In warm weather the garage is preferred over inside the home. Neither the installer nor the consumer believed that that this was an issue until after the work was completed. However, once alerted to the consumers concern over residual sawdust, another employee was dispatched to clean the area to the consumers satisfaction. Our usual policy is not to start jobs without having all the material available. In this particular case, the consumer was living on bare floors and opted to have us proceed with the installation. All parties knew the trims were on back order and would be installed upon arrival. The trims arrived June 25th and were installed by a different crew per the consumers request on June 27th. Our standard terms are 50% down balance upon completion with every customer. This insures that our customers are indeed satisfied and we have performed according to our contract. We do not take consumer complaints lightly. Our policy is to set the stage for a successful installation, react promptly to the consumers concerns, and complete the job with complete consumer satisfaction. It appears we did meet all these objectives with this consumer.
Initially we were impressed by the project management, but we had to press for closure with the little details.

Thank you for your comments. I reviewed your carpet, wood and ceramic orders from April of this year. We made timely progress thru a somewhat complicated job. However, it is always the final trims that make the project complete. It appears the trim we specified on the ceramic order was not correct. To compound matters the correct trim was on back order. Once it arrived it had to be stained taking additional time. I am sorry for the delay in completing the project. We are looking into ways to avoid putting a customer thru unnecessary delays on future projects. Thank you for using Angies list Paul Riemer
I called Riemer Floors and Mr. Riemer took my call personally. He had one of his representatives, Bruce King, call me and arrange a time for us to meet at the house. I had parts of a wood floor that had to be replace, sanded and refinished. We also had to install new carpet throughout and vinyl in the laundry room. Bruce king was excellent. He brought a variety of samples to the house. He took his time and consoled me in the selection of the carpeting and vinyl we had installed. His recommendations for the wood floor refinishing were "spot on". He kept a close eye on the job making sure things happened correctly. The install happened on schedule and was done right. The materials used were top quality. The refinished floors look fantastic. The house just looks great. Riemer is a first rate company, I highly recommend them and if I were you I would ask for Bruce King. Ray Herrmann

I decided to use Riemer because they have been in the Metro-Detroit area for a very long time, and they received good reviews online. (I was not a member of Angie's List at that time, but I checked other online reviews). I went into the store where I met with a very professional salesman. I explained that I recently gutted and renovated a house, and I needed carpet only in the upstairs hallway and down the stairs. The entire house is hardwood floors, but after a nasty slip on the stairs, I felt I needed some carpeting for traction and cushion. The salesman steered me in the right direction in terms of durability, price, and color. He promptly scheduled an appointment where he came out himself to take measurements. He warned me in the the store and while he was at my house that the shoe molding would need to be removed and that the hallway closet would need to be adjusted to fit over the carpet - Riemer would not do any of that work. I said that was fine - I had a handyman who could fix the closet door and repair any paint damage from the removal of the shoe molding. I explained to both the salesman and the receptionist who called to schedule my appointment that I was not yet living in the house, and that I needed a 30 minute warning phone call before the installers arrived. They said it was noted on my invoice. I was the first appointment of the day on the morning of my installation. I did not receive a warning phone call. The installers were sitting in my driveway. The were very mad because they had sat there 45 minutes. I, myself, was 10 minutes early for the scheduled appointment time. I told them that it was great that they were early, but 45 minutes meant that they were at the house before 8 a.m. When I asked why they didn't call me, I received no answer. Now, this is not my first house or the first time I had carpet installed. I know it is a messy and noisy job. It didn't help that it was 90 degrees on the day of installation. But, at the same time, after the house was gutted and renovated, I had 4 different set of furniture movers deliver furniture. No problems! I had hired a set of private movers to move my belongings into the house. Not a scratch! I had a dishwasher, washer, and dryer delivered and installed. Not one dirty fingerprint! But, my luck ran out with the carpet layers. The older man was horrible and rude. Apparently someone ran over his dog that morning because he was downright nasty. He was cursing. Any time I asked a question, he rolled his eyes at me. The younger guy was apparently learning because I heard instructions and criticisms being screamed at him. Finally, I heard the older man yell, "you are not cutting it right." Great news right? Finally, they were done, and I walked over to my staircase to see that not all the stairs had carpeting, but they had padding and tacks sticking out. The older installer said they ran out of carpet because the salesman measured incorrectly. When I told him that I heard him yelling that the younger installer was cutting the carpet wrong, he told me that I "must have heard wrong." I said that he could not leave my stairs with tacks sticking out of them. Couldn't he go pick up some more carpet or did he have some scraps in his truck to place over the tacks. "No," was my reply. He thrust a invoice in my hand to sign, saying that the work was completed satisfactorily. I told him I would not sign it. He said fine, but that I will still be charged. He then called me a "b**ch" under his breath and stomped out. When they left, not only was I left without carpet on two stairs (I only have 12 stairs), but there were knife marks in my walls, in the wood trim on my staircase, and dirty hand prints all over the walls. Like I said, I have had carpet installed before. It is noisy and messy, but NOT THIS BAD! I called Riemer, and a manager quickly came out to assess the damage. He was a nice guy, but he gave me the party line that the damage was not that bad. I said "Look, I have knife marks in my walls." He said that was to be expected, and that I should have had the carpet installed BEFORE the house was gutted. I had bathrooms torn out, walls sanded, new drywall installed! It was such a mess after the renovation that the contractor had a professional cleaning crew come in! I had even asked the contractor about installing carpet, and he told me that you always do that last. Finally, the manager admitted that there was damage, and he agreed to take money off my final cost to cover some of the damage. He also said they would rush order more of my carpet to have the stairs completed. A different set of installers came two days later and fixed the stairs. They were polite, quick, and professional. The manager told me that Riemer subcontracts the installers. I was really surprised by that because they are a large company. I thought they would be like Art Van where they employ their own movers, installers, etc. Because of the subcontracting, who you get as an installer is the luck of the draw. Unfortunately, I was VERY VERY unlucky. The carpet looks nice. It withstands a lot of foot traffic, and it still looks good. My only complaint is one visible seam, but after my experience, I just fluff the carpet fibers there and try to hide it. The sales staff, management, and second set of installers were very professional. But, I won't use Riemer again.

I'm extremely sorry we let you down. We take every complaint seriously as you can see by our internal notes below. We are a Residential building and maintenance contractor. To remain price competitive we work with many different contractors. All our contractors are background checked, and insured. Most work for us on a daily basis. The contractor that was on your job had worked for us for over 10 years; However, after your incident we felt it was in the best interest of the company to go our separate ways. I've always said anyone can sell flooring; it's what happens when there is a problem that sets retailers apart. It appears we took care of the problems in a timely manner and to your satisfaction. I contacted a few companies from Angie's List for this project. Peter called me the next day and set up a time to bring samples to my house. At the time of the discussion, I had planned to just put in new carpeting. Peter offered to come to my house and bring samples to me, which was great - I could match up the samples to my color scheme. The day of the appointment, Peter kept in touch with me regarding his arrival time (he couldn't come until after the store closed, so the time depended on how many customers were still in the store at closing) and he was very prompt. I asked about vinyl flooring for my kitchen and Peter said he happened to have samples in his car. Peter explained different types of carpeting and vinyl and showed me examples. I really appreciated that he brought several different price range samples, so he wasn't trying to sell me the cheapest or the most expensive - there was a good range of samples to choose from. Peter outlined all the costs and what the installers would do or not do - it was all up front - nothing hidden - I liked that as well. Peter also suggested I pick out a "second choice" on both the carpeting and flooring, so if my first choice wasn't available, there wouldn't be a delay in installation. Fortunately both my first choices were available. Installation was set up and a couple of days before installation, I received another call confirming the date and time. The installers, Shane and Rick - were very prompt - they were there first thing in the morning, because, as they said, they like to get up and get going. They were both very personable, polite, efficient, friendly and organized. It was obvious they had worked together for a while, because they worked together so well. They quickly removed all the old carpeting, swept the concrete before laying down the underpadding, and were fastidious about cleaning up during and after installation. They worked quickly and even gave me some pointers in putting in a "floating floor". It was like having a couple of friends come over to help, except they were also very professional. The carpet and flooring both look fantastic. Rick and Shane cleaned up the site completely and I would absolutely recommend, without hesitation, Riemer Floors. I would absolutely use them again. Thank you Riemer Floors - and especially Peter, Rick and Shane.
Description of Work: Remove old carpeting and install new carpeting in Bedroom, Hall, Dining Room and Living Room (about 700 sq feet). Also install new vinyl flooring in Kitchen area (approx. 60 sq. feet)

The sales people in the store were very knowledgeable and helpful. They did not try to pressure us or get us to choose the highest priced materials. We set up a date for an estimate within just 2 days and the person arrived as planned. He was professional and helpful in talking about our plans. The price quoted was in the same range as another local flooring store. We are not completing work at this time but will look into working with them in the future.
Description of Work: Worked with sales persons on selecting hardwood and carpet. Estimate was completed on work.

Chris Shanks was very efficient and professional when measuring and providing carpet options. I told him our price range and we were able to find a carpet that we liked. After getting quotes from 2 other places, Riemer had the best deal. Chris set it up so that we had the old carpet removed on a Friday, and the new carpet installed on Monday. This allowed me time to clean the sub floor before the new carpet went in. This was easier for us because we hadn't moved in yet. I would definitely use Riemer next time we need new flooring.
Description of Work: Heavy weight nylon carpet installed in 8 rooms, one hallway, and one staircase.

They are very famous in metro Detroit. I liked them a lot. The flooring was good but they subcontracted the installers. It was 3 groups of installers. One took up the old flooring, one put down the vinyl and the other did the carpeting. The quality of work was good. The personalities of the subcontractors differed. The carpet installers were very professional, pleasant and helpful. The vinyl installers were fast and proficient but not the most pleasant people to work with. Reimer Floors took their time and they didn't try to oversell or try to get me to buy the most expensive stuff. I could tell that the installation people were not their company. It did cost a lot but it was good quality.
Description of Work: I used Riemer Floors to refloor an entire 1100 square foot condominium unit. It was vinyl in the kitchen and entryway and 2 types of carpeting in the bedrooms, living room and interior hallway.

Everything went extremely well. We planned to have the work done while we were out of town since we have 4 kids and we didn't want them walking on the floor while work was in progress. That was a great idea! They sanded out water stains from plants pots that had leaked, marks from baby gates, and marks/scrapes from a dog crate. I can't tell you how awful our floor looked when we left--at the very least embarrassing. We just couldn't believe how perfect it looked when we returned. We chose a new color (English Chestnut) and the floor looked absolutely brand new after they finished. And we saved about $1000 compared to the quote Home Depot gave us which didn't include the stained shoe molding or the vents. A completely stress-free experience.
Description of Work: We had a large amount of hardwood flooring completely sanded down, stained, and resealed, as well as had new stained shoe molding and matching hardwood vents installed to match the floor.

The overall experience was good (I'll get to the only negative). The sales person in the store was very knowledgeful and spoke to us frankly. Which was a nice change from the Home Depot experience earlier. Choosing, scheduling, installing the carpets went great. The only negative was the mess the installers left behind. They left all of the little padding and carpet scraps for me to carry out and dispose of. They also left all those little carpet fibers that are left after installation. It would have been great to walk into the room and been like "wow". Instead all I could see was the mess. It didn't take long to clean up, but that is my point...a truly professional crew would take the few minutes to clean and quickly vacuum.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for not meeting your estimate timeline. We strive to ensure that our estimates are as accurate as possible and sometimes the more detailed quotes take a little extra time. After reviewing your case, I see your estimate was sent out in what is considered to be a timely fashion for a job of that nature, but the salesperson should have been in contact to address any questions or concerns you had as well as to update you on your estimate's status. We value the opportunity to service any flooring job, big or small, and we’re sorry we didn’t show you that. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention and for considering us for your flooring needs. Hopefully we can work together in the future. Dennis, Keith, and Paul Riemer

. There were two guys to install the floor. They were excellent. One of them laid the floor and the other was his helper. He said that he has been doing this for almost for 25 years one could tell that because his knees were getting bad. He did an excellent job. I have had people come in and give me compliments. I don’t know what a bad floor looks like. I would use him in the future.

We worked with one of their most experienced sales staff from start to finish. By the time he walked us through Carpeting 101 we were pretty impressed with his knowledge and experience in putting in the right carpet for the appliction. Once we selected a carpet he personally came out and measured both installs and walked us through additional details on how the install would go, how it would look, how to maintain it and anything else we might need know. Both installs went really well as they took up the old carpet/pad, laid down the new carpet/pad and performed a really professional installation. The installers are not Riemer employees but they are top's at what they do and do most of their work for Riemer. On time, the job went just as we were told it would and great cleanup. Just to show you how good Riemer is, we had quoted Home Depot orginally for the 1st floor and it was comical they way they handled it. I won't go into detail but it was downrght insulting they way they proceeded with us and then farmed out the install quote to a third party who kept hassling us with phone calls about if we "wanted to proceed with the purchase" like I was bidding for something on Ebay! Quite ridiculous. If you need an appliance or electric drill shop HD, for anything custom like carpeting shop for a real professional who's been at it for 30 years!! BTW, I used Riemer 18 year ago in a different house for a kitchen floor install. It was great even then. If I needed flooring of any kind I would not go anywhere else but Riemer!
Description of Work: We have actually had 2 separate carpet/pad installations in the last 6 months from Riemer Floors of the same carpeting. On the 1st floor and then the 2nd floor. Overall we spent $6,000.00 for both floors. About 2,400 sq. ft in all.
