Jim Gardner

Jim was excellent. The job went well. He was highly knowledgeable, upfront, and straightforward. He was helpful and considerate.

Jim said on the phone that he could do the hot water heater element or the thermostat. That was the whole reason for the call in the first place. He looked at the heater and said he had just the man who COULD do the work.....for $150.00 cheap! I didn't expect him to subcontract out when he told me HE could do this on the phone. He DID change the shower light bulb which we couldn't get out of the ceiling and checked out the window, which he could do nothing about.....need a new window. Could have taken 15 minutes, tops, if conversation had not turned to other things which were not on my agenda. Cost $25.00 to change a light bulb and the trip here from Benton Harbor.

We ended up using another provider only cause Jim was backed up a couple of weeks.

He's going to do the work for us later on this month because he had to postpone it for a little bit. His quote was very reasonable and he was very responsive. He's a very pleasant person and he's willing to work with you. He's very nice and very professional.

He came out right away to check it to see what he would need, and what materials he would need. He came out on a Sunday to do the repair. I thought the service was very good! He also did work for my daughter that turned out very well! He was instrumental in getting our problems fixed!

This was over a few different visits. Jim isn't super-hard to get ahold of, but he's very busy and scheduled my repairs several weeks out. He was a bit disorganized and was usually at least an hour past his scheduled arrival time, which wasn't a big deal because I worked from home. I had some doubts at first, but he did a really fantastic job with all the projects, and went above and beyond. When he did the stairs to the back porch he hauled away the old stairs for me, and also the old stairs from the side entrance that another handyman had worked on and just left the old ones laying in the yard, and some other random bulky stuff I was planning to have the city haul away eventually. The quality of the work was good, he answered my questions and explained things very well, and his fees were very reasonable. I would definitely hire him again.

.We had a slow start as Jim was very busy and thus had a challenge to work our project into his schedule of more demanding projects. he took the door in his truck and worked on it for a few months and then returned it to our home. He was honest with us in that he explained that weathering and wood will be a problem for the life of our beautiful door. We will no doubt need to do this again unless we replace with a metal door. We appreciated his honesty.

Jim arrived ready to work and had the old sliding glass door removed within a short amount of time. He arrived with all the tools and equipment he needed to accomplish the job. He was professional and courteous, keeping at his job and not wasting time. He had an associate come to the house to help position the new sliders, otherwise he did all the work on his own. He maintained a clean, organized work area and was unobtrusive. He did a great job in my view and I'd definitely trust his work again when needed.

We have an issue w/ our plumbing and a high iron content. He took a quick look at our plumbing and determined we had already done the things we could and that we would need a plumbing expert to look into anything further. He was very upfront with his expertise and limitations; I feel comfortable that he would not engage in a project in which he was not qualified. He was very pleasant and I plan to use him in the future if a project arises.

The contractor could not find the right siding so asked permission to install plywood. The job was decent. Looked like everything sealed as well. The windows were replaced but the glazing quality was horrible. The glazing compound is wavy across each pane of glass replaced except for one in which the contractor apparently wiped excess off with his finger leaving smeared residue on the glass. I'm going to have to redo this myself to give it a quality appearance. I was not happy at all about this part of the job. I expected much better based upon the reviews. I thought the price was very high based upon the workmanship quality.

Jim is very good at what he does. He is very thorough, high quality, and does not skimp or cut corners. He can get busy and be unreliable about showing up on days when he says he will be there, but he gets the job done and does it right.

I had a moderate list of small repairs around the house, of which the most important was installing a new kitchen sink and faucet. I called Jim, who promptly returned my call and offered to come out to my house to assess the list of repairs in a few days. As planned, he came out on a Saturday afternoon and spent at least 30 minutes walking through the house with me to gauge the extent and nature of each task on my list. He was very knowledgeable, and gave me some important advice about what to buy in preparation for his work (for example, sink dimensions that would fit in the existing space). He also explained how I could do one of the very minor jobs myself. He took some notes during his visit, and at the end asked me to write my email address on top of his notes so he could email me an estimate and be in touch about scheduling. That was over three weeks ago, and I have not heard back from him. I just left him a voicemail, and I do hope he calls back so I can give him my business. I believe he would do quality work at a fair price.

Overall went very well. No issues. Could rely on him, workmanship first rate.

We made a phone call on a Saturday, and Jim Gardner was able to come out and check what we needed to have done, but since we needed to have the repair made to our chimney before winter, and Jim would not have been able to do it until next spring, we did not use him to do the work.

Overall things went very well,,,,much better than I could have expected. I chose the right person and thank Angies List for being around to help.

Jim is a great guy. Very nice and personable. He does good work, but in this instance I was looking for good work at a reasonable price. It was in our storage room so it didn't need to be a great job where you might take extra time to make sure the job is first quality. I had to remind him of that to speed him up. The drywall work ended up costing me a little more than I would have liked, but it was done well, and it was done at last. I also had him build a simple bookcase to handle our overflow of books. It was in the storage room also. Jim decided it would be easier for him to build it at his place and then bring it back and install it. I thought that would be fine. He finished the bookcase and brought it back to install it. It was too tall to get into the storage room without dismantling the drop ceiling (for which he charged me). I wanted a simple plywood bookcase with solid pine face frame, unfinished. Approximately 4 feet wide by about 7 feet tall. He did a good job, but it cost me over $600! I was figuring it should be about $3-400. Too much for what it is. Anyway, the lesson is, if you use Jim, get a quote for the job. I paid him on an hourly basis because his rate was good and he seemed to know what he was doing. He did do good work, he just took too long to do it, which means it ended up costing me more than I figured it should have.

Customer declined service at this time for reasons unrelated to Mr. Gardner, his estimates or evaluations. Professional Person.

Made an appointment to come out. After arranging my schedule to accommodate, he did not show up, did not call to inform or reschedule. Will not beg to give someone my money. If I treated new clients this way in my business, I would be out of business.

Jim was concerned about the safety of the electrical outlets in my grandchildren's playroom. Even though he knew I wasn't able to pay him for his work until the next Friday, he wanted to get the outlets replaced right away. He also gave me such a great estimate on repairing fire damage to the exterior of my house, I won't need to make an insurance claim. I couldn't have asked for better service. Jim will definitely be back to do further work for me.

Jim did a great job on everything. Very reasonable cost, did a great job running down the list of projects in many rooms of our home. He also researched and found the best options for us when we had multiple paths to take. Thanks!

Jim did an excellent job. The task was greater than I think he expected, however he took the time to get it done right and now we have a beautiful entry door. I would recomend his services to anyone and plan to call him for future work on our home.

Jim came to our home and inspected the state of our door; agreed to come to our house and load this door into a van for safe transport (glass in top portion). In his estimate he indicated that the price could be somewhat more than he gave us since he was not sure about the number of hours that would be required for this work. He returned the door and assisted my husband in installing the door.

H e bought the windows, took a few weeks to instll. kept me abreast of progress. Recommended things I did not know about. Nice job, windows look great.

Jim was booked out for several months so I took his first available opening. I am glad I waited for him. Jim was always on time. He was honest and nice to be around. The cuts for the crown molding were intricate and in an old house hardly anything is square so I had handed him a real challenge. I was thrilled with the end result. Both the kitchen and the living room look completely transformed, just by adding the right detail. He also fixed some baseboards and now the home looks just as I had hoped. The work in the garage was also done very well. Jim showed up on time. He set the appropriate expectation for me in regards to the amount of time it would take for each project. Overall, it was a great experience.
