Jim Gardner

It went well. However he kept complaining about how the lamps were to his liking.

Jim returned my call 2 days after my initial call to him. He said he would come out to evaluate it the next Thursday evening (in 2 days) and possibly complete the work that day. He missed that appt. and did not call that evening to explain. He did call the next day and offer a reasonable explanation. Jim said he would come on Saturday to look at the work. He arrived on time and evaluated the work. He did not have the necessary tools to complete the job, and suggested we purchase different weather stripping. He said he would return the next day (Sunday) at 10 to do the job. He arrived on time and did everything we requested. The door feels and fits snug now. He replaced the weather stripping. He removed the door to properly align it in the frame and also to enable placement of the new seal. He morticed new openings for the latch and dead bolt in the door jamb. We are very happy with the end result and that is why Jim gets an 'excellent' rating from both my husband and myself. I made all the contacts with Jim prior to the work being done but my husband was here to assist when Jim did the work.

Very disappointed that Jim claimed he could do concrete work and then wasted my time as he could not. Jim did let me know person he knew who could do the work would not travel to Granger for work. Appreciated Jim letting me know.

Jim is a top-notch independent professional. He's busy and he works at his pace. If you aren't in a hurry, his schedule makes up for his quality and professionalism. Jim responded to a call. We spoke about the repair needed. It took him a week or two to get out to the property to survey the damage. I put in a couple of calls along the way. Once he got out, he told me when he could get to it and that suited us fine. He offered some constructive suggestions that were actually a bit less than we wanted to do regarding the repair. We appreciated his recommendation.Once we committed to the project, he got right to it. Really good attention to detail and materials. You get the feeling that he is fixing it with the same attention that he'd give his own home. After the repair, he got back to us with an additional suggestion on securing some structural issues. He offered the service as an add-on. Again, good suggestion from Jim and we proceeded. The collapsed chimney left a mess of rock and block in the yard. Jim cleared that away for us without even being asked. We'll be calling on him for sure for future work.

He was very good. It was a little bit pricey than what I thought.

Jim is meticulous. He worked with me to find to most cost effective option for the repair of my front porch. I really had no idea what to do and he helped me narrow it down, knowing I was on a budget. His work was great, he was on time and he stuck to his estimated cost. I was thrilled with the result.

It went really well with Jim Gardner. It’s a small operation basically but I don’t think he’s a local representative type of service guy. He’s very personable, very good, did not take a lot of time and did exactly what I wanted done. His price is in the middle of everybody. I interviewed three or four before and his pretty standard.

Jim is excellent. Not always responsive on email, but he always returns calls. His prices are very competetive, and his work is first rate. He is a real detail oriented person, so the job is always done properly. Sometimes he is not totally organized, and has to run to Loews in the middle of a job, but for the price it doesn't matter. He's a one man plus helper type operation, so it sometimes takes him longer to do a job than others, but again, the job is well done at a good price, so none of these things phase me. I have used Jim for multiple jobs now, and will continue to use him. He is an excellent general handyman in the region.

He knew what I wanted and he really tried to do the kind of look that I wanted in there. I found it hard to find somebody who did this kind of work so I was pleased that I should find him.

The front 50 year old door was a difficult task. It was replaced with a high end Therma Tru door with sidelites. The difficulty was that the opening was set by wall registers. The walls were hand plastered and the sub floor required leveling. Jim was very attentive to all the details, thinking things through before initiating the job. Once work began he uncovered more issues but was able to address them in without compromising the quality of the job.

He was a little high plus the fact that he wasn't particularly complete with his visual estimate of what needed to be done so we ended up not going with him. I didn't know if he was quite as professional as it seemed to be on the website. Basically, all he did was look around and said $275.00 a window. He didn't talk about the outside trim. He didn't talk about the inside. He did say that he could make the new wood trim for around our windows. I was a little skeptical about that just because I've had several contractors said that I need to get someone that does finished carpentry to do something like that because it was very intricate.

Very well. Punctual, and works to complete job with quality.

I think the world of him. He is responsive and punctual. I've used him multiple times.

so I can't really offer any evaluation.

After the owner of another company became ill, I got in touch with Jim. He charges fair prices, he's extremely professional (he shows up when he says he will), and he does work of the highest quality. I will be having him back in 2013 to do more tuck-pointing.

Jim was great. He was on time and gave a fair assessment of the job. It required more specialized services of an electrician and Jim provided two quality referrals. Very honest and fair to deal with.

He was good, helpful, and understanding. We could not make him work due to his hectic schedules. The estimation was right after we asked him and it was quick, reasonable and good. He was suppose to put the cement to the wall of our rooms.

He was very professional and very thorough on what is needed to be done.

Received a quote in early May to repair the roof, 3 weeks later no work has been completed. Finally in June the repair was scheduled and the work done the 1st week of June. The 3rd party roofer was at our home for 3 hours to fix the roof. With 1 of the hours being spent away from the home for who knows what reason. The roofer came back completed the job and left. $1200 quote for a 3 hour job. Ridiculous! I will never utilize Jim's service again and would not recommend him to any of my friends. As a matter of fact, I have already told all of my friends about my experience.

He was very patient on the phone and offered several recommendations for me to try prior to calling for repair visit. His recommendations worked so I didn't need to use him, but I definitely would in the future if I needed help.

The question is: What had to be fixed after Mr. Gardner left my home? 1. The register cover fell out onto the floor. We used double sided tape to keep it in place for now. By the way, the register was NOT opened when installed. 2. Part of a cabinet door turned white after the polyurethane dried. We sanded and restained this area. 3. The toe kick by the refrigerator was not sawed off as promised. We have done nothing to this as yet. 4. He did not use the same wood grain for the entire scribe molding project. A section will be replaced by a different carpenter. 5. He completed the work in 6.5 hrs. at a cost of $390 for labor plus materials. 6. In addition, he was unable to install four pantry shelves. Another carpenter will complete this installation. 7. Mr. Gardner said he would arrive after 9 am. Arrival was 11:40 am. I had to call and inquire as to his whereabouts. On the plus, he did match the stain on my cabinets. ii

Provider showed up at my home, told me some of the things that needed to be done, ask me had I received an insurance settlement for work I was requesting and never provided an estimate nor returned. Although I assured provider that all the work done to my home including a new roof and concrete driveway was paid for without the assistance of insurance, he seemed uninterested. I am African American and I live in a predominantly African American city and I attribute this to his disappearing act. Mr. Gardner should realize that money is the same color no matter where it comes from. His actions has caused me to eliminate Angies list as a viable source for my needs.

He was very thorough. He got caught up with a lot of different jobs at one time. I did not like that he was not able to get the job done on time but he made sure to come back and finish it. Sometimes that happens to all contractors. They might have jobs come in at one time and they try to get both of them. It would have been completed without the delay. But other than that, it was fine.
