He worked with me to keep costs down and the final result could not have been better. Very happy with his craftsmanship and patience. This is not the first time I have used Dinse Contracting, and if needed in the future, would not hesitate to go to him again.
Description of Work: Brian was tasked with a hard job - our deck, on an old home, had not be serviced in years. More, a large maple tree had begun to warp the deck boarding. The wood was rotted in a good number of places, including underneath an old hot tub which was not being used (and was now unsupported). Brian was prompt and communicated well. Very trustworthy throughout. He was present throughout the majority of the work, as well. His price was fair for the complications we encountered at each step - all of which were due to the nature of the home. He worked with me to keep costs down and the final result could not have been better. Very happy with his craftsmanship and patience.

This is the second time I've used Brian and his team for a major project. Prior, he had completed an entire home renovation from the studs out. He had done such a great job on that project that I knew he was right for this project. This time around, a designer had drafted plans for a recording studio, and they needed to be followed to a 1/16th of an inch to ensure maximum sound quality was achieved in the recording studio. I knew I could rely on Brian for his attention to detail and precision craftsmanship. Brian worked closely with the original designer, but also brought a lot of his own knowledge to the project and helped make adjustments as they arose. Brian's team framed new walls, insulated the ceiling with multiple layers of sound proofing material, hung resilient channel mounting strips, built resonator bass traps, assisted electricians by installing a completely isolated electrical system, laid waterproof sub flooring, installed custom HVAC, ran networking cable, and numerous other odds and ends related to the completion of this major project. Needless to say, a project of this size and detail needs the watchful eye of a professional like Brian. Someone who is willing to think outside the box on multiple occasions, but also maintain a steadfast attention to the design plans. Brian is an excellent choice for large jobs like this, but also for small jobs. He will continue to be my go to craftsman for all jobs at my house, as his team is multi-skilled and can handle anything you ask them to.
Description of Work: Build a professional recording studio in a portion of a residential basement.

Brian helped me figure out what I wanted the finished product to look like, presenting a lot of design ideas that I hadn't considered, and then saw the project through from demolition to finish. The demolition phase was extensive - several walls were removed. The house is old (1878) so everything found under the surface was not always as expected (the joists under the subfloor weren't level with each other, for example) - some situations called for extensive remediation, which Brian's crew met with no issues. HVAC ducts had to be moved. The arrangement of the bathroom was completely different than what had been there previously, so plumbing had to be rearranged. The bathroom work included framing, insulation, ceiling can lights and exhaust fan ducted to the exterior of the house, drywall, plumbing, trim, painting, and a lot of tile work, including the floor, a jacuzzi tub enclosure, and a full tile shower. The workmanship in general is great. I am very impressed with the tile work. The kitchen work included removing a wall between the kitchen and pantry, and replacing the wall between the kitchen and dining room with a more open setup, including an arched doorway to match other architectural features in the house, and an open breakfast bar. The arrangement of appliances was updated to a more modern layout. A tile floor was installed here as well. I chose and purchased cabinets and Brian and his crew installed them. Also included was ceiling can lights, range hood vented to the opposite exterior wall, plumbing, insulation, drywall, trim, and painting. Additional small projects included in the cost here - the bottom half of the attic stairway adjacent to the bathroom had always been absent, Brian built a replacement. One of the historic garage doors was about a quarter missing, Brian extrapolated and reconstructed it to match the existing door. The only thing not included in the cost is the kitchen cabinets themselves (installation of the cabinets is included), counters, and appliances (with the exception of the stainless steel range hood, which is included), which I am purchasing separately. Designer double bathroom vanity was included.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen and bathroom plus a few small projects around the house (repair of historic garage door, replacement of attic staircase).

The entire experience of working with Dinsie Contracting was exceptional! And this is saying something because during the 20 years of living in our house, we have had small and large remodeling projects, as well as maintenance and repair, and I had come to dread any time I needed to call a contractor. After a thorough inspection of the areas requiring work, Brian provided me with a detailed estimate, including materials and labor and a plan of how the work would be completed. When unexpected and unavoidable delays occurred, he immediately informed me. Also, Brian frequently checked in about the progress of the work. The overall quality of the work was high with much attention to detail and making sure that the work met our expectations. At the end of the day, the work site was carefully cleaned up, so it was very manageable to carry on with day to day life. The work was also completed in the time frame discussed and within budget! I would highly recommend Dinsie Contracting. They are very service oriented, as well as good craftsmen, and they sincerely seem to want to make their customers happy!
Description of Work: Our house is old, quirky house built on a hill in 1928 with a number of additions and remodels added since that time. As a result, what should be a simple house project, is always more complicated . We have had a number of contractors in the past show up to give us estimates on projects and then never call back or return phone calls. This was not the case with Brian Dinsie at Dinsie Contracting. Brian quickly returned my call to schedule a meeting at our house, showed up on time, and seemed undaunted as he took in the scope of the work which included very challenging drywalling, including a bedroom with no right angles, small areas with no studs and blue board. The work also included replacing a bathroom ceiling that had severe water damage, installing towel holders, trim, and painting. It was also necessary to match the paint to existing room colors.

Great! Brian was friendly and professional. He set up a time to meet for an estimate when I would be available, came in under the expected cost based on estimates from other carpenters, and did great work. There was a bit of a lag in between getting the estimate and getting the actual work done, but I understand that he's got several jobs going on during the summer months, and had also said this was nothing urgent. Would definitely use Dinse Contracting for other jobs at our house.

My old deck was in rough shape. The stairs and railing were also a safety hazzard. Brian (owner) and his right hand man (Seth) rebuild the stairway, blocked and braced the sub-structure and replaced the old deck with new composite decking and handrail. Overall the deck came out fantastic, even better than I had hoped. Brian and Seth are very focused on quality work and attention to detail. Brian also goes the extra mile to make sure the customer expectations are met. I gave them some extra challenge with this deck such as "no exposed butt joints" and a "chevron pattern" for ascetics. The picture frame and angle board joints are excellent, very tight. Best deck I have ever seen! Very pleased and well definitely hire again!

Brian (the owner of the business) and David (the on-site manager of the project) were among the best contractors that I have ever worked with. They completely transformed my house, completely re-doing every surface on my main floor and in my master bedroom. The project required significant wall repair, muddling/sanding, painting. They had to completely rework all the 'lines' (between walls/ceilings, walls/trim, stairs/walls, etc.) and they were amazingly precise and appealing to the eye. I have very high quality standards, and they were very willing to work with me to find the right balance of price and precision. Given the scope of the project they had to take over much of my house, but the crew was great to have as part of the family for several weeks.
Description of Work: After completing a significant exterior siding and painting project, I decided to talk with the Dinse team about an interior project. I Needed a full interior painting, along with a series of repairs to walls, stairways, fireplace, fixing tile, updating electrical fixtures, etc.

I was very happy with the work that was done. The interaction with Brian and his foreman Dave was very professional and prompt. Brian was observant of the details and protecting the finished portions of the bathroom they were working around. They went above and beyond to address small details when they were uncovered, but never did so without communication. The work was done on time despite details outside of their control. Most importantly, Brian was very easy to communicate with and it was never a question when people would be on site or what to expect for the day.
Description of Work: Brian and his crew removed drywall and insulation from my bathroom which had begun to show signs of water damage. The source of the issue was improperly installed insulation and baffling in the ceiling. Brain and crew did all the removal, reinstallation, and finishing work in the bathroom.

There was a coupon on Angie's List, but I wasn't sure if it would apply. The owner of Dinse Contracting came to my house and went over the job with me, explaining what the range of costs would be depending on the condition of the drywall under the wallpaper. He also noticed that I needed a GFI outlet to bring the bathroom up to code. David Foules was assigned the job. He was a hard working, punctual, considerate young man. After most of the wallpaper was removed Brian came back to see what the scope of the job was now that we could see the actual condition of the walls. I was given the option of a more expensive fix or just an extra day of work. The wallpaper was not very porous and was hard to remove and the condition of the drywall was not great. I choose the cheaper option which is why I rated the quality good but not excellent. It looks quite good but there are a few imperfections. I'm basically happy with the job, though, and feel they delivered as promised. David was very considerate about my schedule and made sure I could take a shower on the days he was not working. He also did extra work -- replacing the GFIs in the downstairs bathroom and kitchen, replacing the shower curtain rod, and installing a new medicine cabinet I purchased after the job started. My condo is rather small, but David and I worked together on where to store material and tools while the job was being done. I was impressed with the personal attention Brian Dinse showed. Another bid I received from an Angie's List contractor was done just via phone calls and photographs. He also suggested where I could purchase the paint and take advantage of his discount. David was very good to work with. He actually showed up 10 minutes early every day! If I decide to repaint any of my condo I would certainly use Dinse again.
Description of Work: I contracted Dinse to remove the wallpaper in the bathroom and paint the walls and doors afterwards.

Working with Brian and the whole crew at Dinse Contracting was a great experience. My project involved many different components that needed to be tightly coordinated and executed at very high quality standards. Brian was a great partner and consultant from the very beginning; he always had great suggestions and brought forward options that could save money and/or make things look better. We were able to work together in a very flexible and fair way as the project evolved. Their estimate was similar to others that I received, but Dinse was more willing to work to my quality standards and be more flexible as the project evolved. Seth the carpenter and David the painting foreman we highly skilled in their trade, always finding the right balance between quality and speed. Each of them always went out of their way to try and get the exact outcome that I wanted. The quality of the carpentry was outstanding; Seth fixed several longstanding problems with my house and seamlessly brought together those repairs with new work. The paint came out better than any other exterior project that I've done; David assured that every detail was completed to the highest quality standard, even when several places required more paint/time than anticipated. Also, the entire team was always professional, polite and respectful during the several weeks in Oct/Nov 2015 that they were around my house.
Description of Work: I needed a variety of things to complete the remodeling of my mid-century house in Ann Arbor. All of the siding needed repair and replacement after many years of neglect. The front entrance to my house needed to be re-worked and that was tied new siding, insulation and trim around the side of the my garage. Decorative trim was added in key areas that significantly improved the appearance of the house. Block was repaired and tuck pointed. The entire house and barn were power washed, prepped and painted and a small deck was repaired and stained.

This was an intimidating project that Brian saw through from start to finish. From repairing and replacing dry-rotted and missing clapboard and trim (preserving intricate historic details such as crown molding all over the house), through to painting. It's a very large house and it was in very bad shape, and looks fantastic now. If I can attach pictures, they will speak for themselves. Brian and his crew were professional, communicative, and did the work as promised. There were no unpleasant surprises, only pleasant ones.

Let's see...How'd it go? After two years of working with general contractors, I can honestly & happily say that Dinse Contracting far exceeds all expectations (which by the way can be very high)! Let me take you back to the quoting process. Brian met us at our place to review our project, we stood out in the rain as the subject was the exterior of our house. Brian was very in-tune with our dreams as we stated the importance of quality & esthetics of our home. He was very professional & demonstrated a great deal of passion that this was a project he and his team could take on and deliver. As the quotes started to trickle in (Dinse's electronically within a couple days of initial appointment), there was just something pulling at us to follow-up with Brian and obtain references. As you may have guessed - all of his references had nothing but incredible things to say about him and his team. Within two weeks we had made our decision to move forward with Dinse Contracting to beautify our home exterior and we couldn't be happier! When the work started, the entire team was prompt, cheerful & courteous (and that was @ 7 a.m...eeks! - who's that cheerful in the morning?). It was very apparent the first day that these guys took their job serious and listened to what their customer wanted. They took great pride in their work and it showed, not only by their work ethics but also in the final product. Each day the site was cleaned up without any hassle, moaning or complaining. I mention this because our home was not equipped with a wash sink or an accommodating cleaning area for brushes or sprayer - so hot water was supplied by buckets outside. Overall, the project was quoted to take a couple weeks at a very fair price...it completed in less than 2 weeks, under budget, with a great crew to work with (note: they like ice cream sandwiches), & the quality that is out of this world. These guys are on my fan list - FOREVER! Pictures say a 1000 words, so if I'm able to attach photos to this review I will. On a more serious note, this crew went above and beyond. Dinse Contracting will be the first number we will be calling for future projects! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this review, our project, or the experience we had with Dinse Contracting.

A large decorative beam supporting a pergola above a deck on the front of our house had rotted, and particle board trim used on an addition to our house had degraded. The company rebuilt and replaced the beam, including caulking and painting. They also replaced the degraded trim with PVC exterior trim on large portions of the house, including on the sides of a dormer that squirrels were fond on eating. In addition, the north- and east-facing sections of our roof had acquired a heavy coat of moss, which they removed with a power washer. The crew did an excellent job on everything, and we are very happy with the work.It was one of those projects where you couldn't know how extensive the damage was until you start taking things apart. They were very good about identifying and correcting problems as they were uncovered. In addition to doing high-quality work, their prices are very reasonable. Finally, Brian Dinse and everyone who worked on the project were a real pleasure to work with. Just really good people at every level.

We had two problems, both of which were somewhat difficult to address in a simple manner. First, we had raccoons constantly getting into our attic. Having previously had a reputable builder try to fix our gables, the animals were able to tear the gables down and get into the attic. Second, two large (approx. 70ft) trees fell on the house after an overnight storm. They destroyed the roof deck and surrounding railings. The job looked too complicated and too "small" for most roofers to address. Thus, we were overjoyed when Brian Dinse responded to our call identified new ways to fix the gables, work with the roofer to facilitate the repairs of damaged siding and the deck railings. Brian was always very open about the different ways that our problems could be addressed, the time that it might take and the maximum costs that we should consider. In the end, not only was the work to our complete satisfaction - his assistants were incredibly fastidious and made every attempt to give us the best results e.g. a much better deck railing than we previously had - but also identify potential problems - rotten siding - that could be addressed without incurring delays to the already contracted work. Much to our amazement, not only was the work of the highest quality but all of it was completed ahead of time....saving us quite a bit of money! I also liked the fact that Brian shared his online folder that showed us all the invoices that he had incurred and always informed us of the progress of our work. This is the kind of openness and honesty that I have never before seen from any contractor that I have employed over the last 30 years! Needless to say we will always turn to Dinse Contracting for any future work!Member Comments: Work was completed ahead of schedule. The costs were at or below the original estimates and the quality of the finished work was truly outstanding better than that delivered by a highly reputable builder in our area on previous occasions. I highly recommend Dinse Contracting to anyone who wants quality work at a fair price and would enjoy working with diligent and honest craftsmen.Share on Band of Neighbors: Yes

I hired Brian to paint my kitchen cabinets, do drywall repair (very extensive work on the ceiling), and paint my living room and dining room. During the work, I had a flood at my house, which resulted in needing a total remodel of the main floor. Dave, one of his workers, actually found the flood, and if he hadn't, things could have been so much worse! It turns out that flood was a blessing in disguise, because working with Brian, Dave, Seth, Mark, and Chris turned out to be a great experience. I trusted Brian implicitly with everything. He was a great communicator, always talked with me about the budget, and followed-through. Everyone on his team is very professional and are great craftsmen. They take great pride in their work, are always on time, and are just really nice people. My master shower is quite a piece of art! It is all tiled, floor to ceiling, and it looks incredible. Not only are his guys great to work with, but they were all very respectful of my cats. I have several, and they had to work around them. They were very patient with that. Brian also has really great ideas. He installed night lights and USB ports into the walls, which are really helpful. I would have never thought of that! I will definitely work with Brian again. I have a basement to remodel next, and I wouldn't want anyone else but Brian and his crew to do that for me!

The crew from Dinse Contracting LLC did a supurb job replacing rotten soffits and facia on a large old house. First, Brian took a lot of time to assess the damage and discuss the extent of the work they would do (or might find when they started to remove the damage). He was extremely flexible in terms of letting us know 1) how cost might change depending on the extent of damage and and how to control this 2) working with us to carry the work as far as we wanted on a given section 3) throwing extra members of his crew in at key times to finish complicated sections or knock out work that just needed the extra people. The facia and soffits on the rear of the house were rotting and severely damaged. Dinse Contracting LLC ripped off the old soffits and were extremely careful about retaining portions which were still in good condition. During this process they encountered lots of complications, including nests and filth that had built up in the soffits, water damage that extended behind the soffits, complications from electric lines, fire escapes and other hard to reach areas. During the demolition, the crew was meticulous about cleaning up both rotten wood and all the trash that accumulated in the soffits. All mess was collected, bagged and removed from the property. As each section of soffit was replaced, I checked in on the work. The crew at Dinse Contracting LCC were both fast and extremely skilled at - the carpentry was excellent, and they took care to match any details to the style of the house. All work was high quality from carpentry to scraping and painting. In addition, the crew was highly professional - always on task, meticulous about cleaning up, and excellent at communicating and needs or changes, or just providing updates. Brian Dinse was superb at communicating updates regarding the job, and was extremely flexible working through any potential changes - costs, materials, time frames etc. We hope to retain their services for any future work on the house, and I highly recommend Dinse Contracting LLC.
Description of Work: The soffits and facia on two levels of an old house were rotted and infested with critters/nest. Several 'patch' jobs were poorly done, lots of water damage and some particularly bad places where damage may have extended into the eaves or were complicated by the age or other conditions of the house. Dinse contracted gave lots of time to review the problems and provide ample feedback about the extent of the job prior to initiating any work. They removed most of the facia and soffits fixed any further water damage, rebuilt soffits, primed and painted the new carpentry work.

It took about 8 days . Brian offered free small services when he could workers were friendly but professional. overall a good experience without any negative surprises
Description of Work: I wanted my bedroom painted. they refinished drywall and spackled it and leveled walls they removed and replaced all the trim. it was old and needed replacing . they replaced all the doors which was hard and time consuming because doors were original and new doors had to be fit into door space.painting seemed to be the easiest part and they had excellent cut lines. they hung my new blinds on the windows and hung my new light fixture which I didn't expect. they came back to put down my quarter round after my wood floor was finished.they did an excellent job. all the specialists each did top of their field work. I felt my bedroom was done with excellence and professionalism. expensive for me but value was great.

Brian and his small, experienced, and professional crew did outstanding work on our entire Living Room space. In order to paint the room, the 1900's vintage plaster walls required significant upfront prep. We also have old craftsman wood doors and window casings which Brian brought back to life with wood stain and other fine detail work like replacing the brass window latches individual 'period' screws (all without us even having to ask). Before the finish coat of paint went on, they also performed fairly extensive electrical work to replace all of the switches, outlets, and recessed lighting in the room. When the final coat of paint (latex) went on the walls and trim (oil), the room was transformed and brought up to the highest standard. I would recommend Brian to anyone - we absolutely trust him in our home and he takes care of the details start to finish. We will continue to use Dinse for all of our painting and related needs.
Description of Work: Significant plaster sanding, painting (latex and oil), wood staining, and some electrical work.

Brian and his drywaller are great! Brian was very professional, talked to us in detail about what would be done. The drywall around the new skylight was tricky as the new skylight was a slightly different size than the old one, and the drywall had to be angled out to match the existing ceiling. The drywaller arrived promtly every morning and worked all day. He did a beautiful job on the drywall and the prep work. He left everything clean and ready to be painted (which they also would have done, but we chose to do it ourselves). They were both very courteous and take a lot of pride in their work.
Description of Work: Stripped wall paper border from bathroom wall. Replaced dry wall around new bathroom skylight. Prepped walls for painting.

The assigned carpenter worked in extremely cold conditions (March was cold this year). The work was more extensive than originally expected (more extensive damage was revealed after tear off). Supervision was good and as needed. I will use them again if the occasion arises. The work was performed to my satisfaction and per my schedule.
Description of Work: Removed wood that suffered from insect damage, and replace it with PVC material. Included working with exterminator who treated the insects.
