The work was done professionally with custom installation on-site. All debris was cleaned up and removed each day. The roof looks great and numerous neighbors have commented on how nice it is. The grade for price is based on knowledge of what other people have paid for similar projects- we did not request quotes from other contractors as Horch has performed other work and we've been happy with the quality of their past work. The price quoted seemed like a fair price for the quality received. We also wanted to use them because they are a local company and have responded quickly in the past.

Description of Work: I cannot speak to the quality of work. I can address the labor practices. Horch hired a young man of my acquaintance, saying there was "lots" of work. The jobs dried up and the young man was laid off. Unfortunate, but that's how it goes. The real complaint, however, is that the men were required to show up at 7AM at the the office, no matter where the job site was. They then were transported to the job site and at the end of the day, which could be as late as 6, but was often 5PM, were driven back to the office. At that point, the men had to unload the truck and put things away, which took about an hour--- OFF THE CLOCK. In other words, they were paid for 7AM to whatever time they stopped work at the job site (minus time for lunch) but were required to work an extra hour a day, at least, for free. This is clearly an unfair labor practice. No one dared complain, as jobs are scarce. Thus, despite what is apparently good quality work, I would not use this company.

We requested Horch quote a new shingled and metal roof for us as well as gutters. They ended up only quoting a shingle roof and the gutters-we guess they forgot about the metal request. Shingle quote seemed very high for our house at over $9k plus 1,500 for the gutters and the contract was full of language that indicated there would likely be findings and additional expenses. We ended up going with a metal roof from another operator, we may have used Horch except they didn't quote the metal so we didn't have a comparison but based on their shingle quote it would have been on the high side. We were able to get a standing seam metal roof for almost exactly what their original quote was for shingles (+ or - $500). It took a long time to get our quote because they were spelling our last name wrong even though we'd communicated with them via email before so that was a little frustrating; it took about 15 days to get the quote. On the plus side, they were very professional in the dealings we had with them and their contracts are very thorough and detailed which benefits both the homeowner and the business. We would consider using them in the future for gutters. Their gutter quote was actually slightly less than another we received.

They were very responsive to our questions and concerns. When our initial plan to install a metal roof proved too expensive we switched to an asphalt roof. The workers were polite, punctual, did excellent work and left our yard virtually spotless. To top it off, they put on a matching new roof on our children's playhouse free of charge.
