Description of Work: I had an outdoor faucet replaced along with some other work. They did a good job, but charged me a ridiculous amount of money for the faucet.($209.00) It turns out it's a high end 1/2 turn commercial faucet and the only one they use. Had I known that, I would have bought a $10 faucet and had them install it. I tried to get a hold of them, but it wasn't until I wrote the BBB that they returned my call. The new faucet started leaking again which turned out to be an issue with an inside weld which they did the first time. They did come back and fix things and were fine about it, but unfortunately I wouldn't use them again.

Description of Work: They were at my house for less than 45 minutes. The technician was in the house, working on the job for about 30 minutes, during which time he received a call on his cell phone which he spent several minutes on. The technician tightened 2 flange nuts on a sink drain pipe, then cranked a snake down 2 toilet bowls, scoring the china toilet bowls, leaving marks which I cannot get out. For less than 30 minutes work (and no parts) the vendor charged $182.88. I called the vendor and was told that Steve, the owner had not seen the paperwork yet, but would call me tomorrow. He did not call. I called him late the next day and was told someone had taken the paperwork home but Steve would call me tomorrow. Again he did not call. I called again but Steve was not available. The price charged by this company, for the work done, was not only outrageous, it was obscene. I grew up in a family owned business (I am 77). Respect for the customers needs was drilled into us. This vendor showed no respect, in fact showed the opposite in attitude and response. Again the amount they charged for the work done was obscene. I would never use them again and tell everyone I know to not use them. I carry a copy of their bill with me and have showed it to several people to date.

Description of Work: They charged way too much money. We couldn't get them on the 21st (which was Thanksgiving day), but they came the following day, and still charged us the "Holiday rate" to unclog a pipe. Talk about taking advantage of customers!!

Being in the service field, we are generally closed for most of the major holidays, however we do forego a few of the regular holidays in order to allow our employees to take the day after Thanksgiving off. As it is not a regular business day for us, unfortunately the after hours fee applies. The after hours service fee (a flat charge of $89) is always disclosed ahead of time and that fee is almost entirely passed along to the technician who is on call to make up for the time he has to leave his family to perform the on call services. The fee for unclogging the drain is a flat rate that we have used for years. There are several varying degrees of difficulty for clearing out drain clogs (depending on what type of equipment is necessary, and whether we have to go through traps, etc), this happened to be one of the ones in the middle of the range. We did have to travel approximately 40 minutes to reach the location before we even performed our service. We try to be as fair as possible to the customer and are sorry that you were not happy with the charges for the service.

All went well until I got the bill. Double what I would expect for four hours work. Next day we noticed the faucet he had tightened was now leaking we called him back the next day, said it was not his fault, and it would be $150 to replace an 0 ring and spring. We told him not to, we will take care of it.

We apologize that this customer was not happy with our pricing. We strive to have our customers completely satisfied with our service as a whole. Our tech had 5-1/2 hours into this job (from the time he left our shop to the time he left the customer’s house): which was quite a bit of work. We removed and installed a customer supplied vanity top, and we completely re-piped under the kitchen sink to allow proper drainage for the dishwasher and food waste disposal – in order to do the work at the kitchen sink, we supplied the material necessary (pipe, fittings, traps, etc.). We also supplied a new toilet flange and shutoff for the bathroom as well as supplies for a faucet installation - All in all, it was approx. $150 worth of material and a small amount for consumables (such as flux, solder, glue, primer, rags, etc). We did tighten down the faucet in the bathroom at the customer's request - unfortunately the faucet leak was something integral to the faucet and not something that arose due to our technician’s service. Our technician was correct in that there would be a charge to repair the faucet – If it had been a faucet that we supplied and installed at the time of the original service call or if it had been leaking due to something that we had done when tightening the faucet, there would have been no charge. However, as that was not the case, our technician gave an amount that the repair may cost “up to $150” depending on what was found. A simple faucet repair could have started around $110, however there was a great deal of sediment in the water system which had been evident in the toilet tank as our tech pointed out to the homeowner. With that in mind, he was unsure as to what the problem could be with the faucet and quoted the repair at that amount in case a cartridge needed to be changed out. We are sorry to see that this customer would not use us again and hope that they may reconsider in the future.

Came over on time on a Saturday to look over job and give estimate. Steve is great, interacts well and put my wife and I at ease that he could handle job no problem. Emailed quote and even though a bit higher than one of the other two we received (and much higher than a really scary plumber we knew right away we were not going to use) we went with him, again because he left such a good impression on us. Scheduled job for the following week and plumber showed up right on time. Job went fast with no unforeseen problems and that was that. Two minor things, which would not stop me from hiring them again 1) Plumber did put broken, dirty flange and dirty rag used to plug toilet hole in a box the vaniety came (box was in dining room). I was disposing of the box, but did not do so for a few days so just a tad unpleasant after realizing this later. 2) Next quote I would have them itemize the materials and labor cost as a 4 hour job with us supplying most of the material does seem high now in retrospect. Aside from the flange, replacement pipe and coupling and a few other parts I have to break it down that for the four hours I had a rate of $163 per hour give or take. Again, overall positive experience and I would call and hire again. I will get future quotes with more detailed discription of materials cost and labor rates. We are pleased with the work done, it looks great.

Really well! There was a slight problem with one of the components which was a fault out of the box (factory defect), but the technicians and owner were extremely responsive to the problem, even staying late to make sure everything was working. I have had follow-up calls as well to make sure things were satisfactory. Courteous, good bidding process, clean work. Highly recommend!!

The plumber (don't remember his name) was punctual and performed very exacting work. He was quite friendly, although he did not like the brand of faucets I purchased at Lowes. Regardless, he did excellent work and cleaned up after himself when he was done. Here's an example of his work quality and attention to detail: after installing the new sink bowl on my vanity, he had trouble getting a tiny air bubble out of the caulking he had just applied. He WOULD NOT stop trying to fix it until he was successful! I am a very detail oriented person and I never would have noticed the miniscule air bubble had he not pointed it out. The price for the job was actually a little less than I thought, considering the unforeseen sink replacement. I would definitely recommend this company to others.
Description of Work: I had the plumber replace a kitchen faucet and 5 bathroom faucets. After the plumber discovered a crack in one of my bathroom sinks, he ordered a new sink and installed it the next day.

Oh I really wanted to give Ed an 'A', really really really. But I just couldn't shake the feeling that he didn't quite know what was going on and that maybe he was doing more work than I actually needed. Worst problem was that after he replaced a bunch of stuff, less than 12 hours later, I stopped having water again. I know that plumbing isn't an exact science, but I wish I could have felt more confident in the repairs that he did. I can't shake the fact that I'm going to need to call him again to fix something else. But he did come promptly on the 2nd call (a Sunday morning, bright and early) so at least I have that to look forward to. He talked to me like i had a background in plumbing (which I do not) so much of what he said I had to ask him to translate into English.
Description of Work: My water pump stopped working, I thought it was just the motor... I offhandedly mentioned that the water had been sputtering earlier in the year... and that's when we realized that my decompression tank bladder was shot. Replacement water pump, decompression tank, some piping, new water filter.

Jim and his crew were complete professionals from start to finish. It started with a very thorough and complete estimate, detailing all work to be done exactly as discussed. Some contractors try to get away with a bullet list and a price, not these guys. Jim took the time to answer all of my questions and concerns in advance of the work, and explained the options and his recommendations for equipment. He also was able to rush the start of the job to be able to make it in time to qualify for a $1600 Unitil rebate that was going to be ending in 1 week! Between that rebate (just got the check), a $200 Efficiency Maine rebate, and the $1500 fed. tax credit, this system ended up costing significantly less than the sticker price. Installation and removal of the old equipment went pretty smoothly, with a great deal of effort taken to get the old coal boiler out (> 300 lbs easily). The crew was very careful in handling the old wide-plank southern yellow pine floors they had to pull up in places to snake the pipes for the new radiators, and went the extra mile to hide the lines completely. The end result was a very clean look w/no extraneous exposed piping, just straight up from the floor under the radiator. Jim came by personally several times during the work to ensure things were proceeding as planned, and then did a final and thorough walkthrough and inspection of the work with me. We had one issue initially with the hot water cutting out. They immediately came to investigate, found that the gas flow was too high, and installed a regulator to compensate. Otherwise everything looks and works great, and I'm looking forward to having much better and less expensive heat this winter. I would highly recommend Mainely Plumbing and Heating - you won't find a nicer, more professional crew around.

I called MPH because my washing machine was draining into the basement. This is a problem that I have had before, and have had two other plumbers out to try and fix it. Jon arrived and cleaned out the drain. He was very knowledgeable, and gave me lots of information without being condescending. He explained some things we could do keep the problem from recurring, and I decided to go ahead and have the work done. Jon scheduled it for me for a few days later. He worked quickly and efficiently and the pipes were all replaced. He also replaced my hot water tank, which he had discovered to be non-functional. All in all, he solved two very annoying problems that had been plaguing us since we have lived in this house and were unable to be fixed by the two other plumbers I'd had here. I will definitely use MPH the next time I need a plumber.

great! Ed was pleasant and informative. He explained everything he was doing and was not condecending in any way.
Description of Work: Leak coming from inside the wall looked like big bucks to me. While he couldnt get at it without a big hole, Ed, the technician, was able to figure out a way to isolate the leak and rerout the pipe. Everything was done to perfection and the mess cleaned up within an hour and a half. Plus he gave me tips on how to spot copper pipes that might be going bad
