Modern Comfort Systems

We have been with them for 30 years! They also installed the system for us. They have installed two systems for us, total. They are the best company I’ve ever worked with regarding my heating and a/c system. They are prompt. They do skillful work. They are reliable. They are courteous on the phone. I am satisfied. They don’t fool around. We wouldn’t trust anyone else! These are the only people we will ever use.

Felt that technicians must work on a quota systems, they go in and out whether making sure that the work is done well and the problem fixed. Had to have them out multiple times to address issues with realtively young boiler (six years old) that could have been addressed from a thorough annual inspection (which they alleged had performed), including losing heat, and having expansion tank overflow because it was not drained (two different incidents this past winter). One time, the guy stayed 5 minutes, said nothing was wrong, but boiler stopped working less than a week later. Switching oil companies to hopefully get better service

We got a couple of estimates and they were comparable. The estimate seemed fair and it was very detailed. The estimate was very professional and courteous. He was prompt and available when I had questions. They came out the day they said they would come out. It took a couple of days which was what they said. They were right on schedule and they did a real nice job. They put in ducts and wiring. There were not any problems. They cleaned up real nice. They were very courteous and nice. We were very happy with them. Their price matched the other companies.

We ended up seeing 9 different people from the company and none of them knew what was wrong. We ended up switching to a different company and they found the problem within 20 minutes.

We continued to freeze without any help to repair the furnace, but we paid them. Will not use their service again.

Our old hot water heater tank gave out and partially flooded the basement, causing damage to numerous things stored there. After considering the options, we decided to replace the whole unit. The Modern Comfort service technicians came with the replacement water heater and did the installation. In retrospect, I thought that the new unit should have had a "drip pan" under it (which wasn't under the original failed unit) to reduce the chances of another costly flooding occurrence in years to come. Technicians returned at my request and installed the drip pan, which entailed draining the heater, disconnecting the 'cold-in' and 'hot-out' water lines, reconnecting same and refilling the unit. The nomal charge for this was approximately $250.00. I sent a letter to Mr Hank Larson (contact name listed by Angie's List)) explaining our situation. I was soon contacted by Mr. Larson by phone who said that I should have been presented with this option along with the cost of this simple safeguard device to which I would have readily agreed. Mr. Larson waived the extra trip/work charge and even the cost of the drip pan. This is rare in today's experience and is precisely why we had chosen Modern Comfort Systems almost 10 years ago and have remained with them ever since.

They are very responsive. They are typically on site within a couple of hours of the service call. Your call is answered right away with a friendly demeanor. The price is good and there are several different levels for the annual maintenance packages.

Glen came out to assess my system, and provided me with estimates. The crew that came out to do the work was extremely competent and professional.

I was very pleased with their punctuality, and polite office staff. Their availability was also quick.

The cost was reasonable and the work was excellent. The new system was a major selling point for our home. They were very good, and I really liked them. They were even willing to travel to my new home in Hanover to help with an issue there.

The fan for the exterior Lennox HS26-036-2P A/C unit was running, but the compressor inside it was not, and the house was hot. Modern Comfort came over same day before COB, opened up the unit and ID'd the problem as the bloated dual capacitor. They replaced it and turned the power back on the the unit. Once the BGE utility energy box reset, the A/C came on and worked fine.

Good experience from first phone call, assessment and job proposal to completion of work in home. Modern Comfort was recommended by a friend and lived up to his experience. I was very glad to have selected this company.

They removed the existing oil burner and installed a completely new one. They finished the job in one day. They would have hauled the oil burner away, but I had a friend that wanted it. They hauled it out of my house and then my friend took it. Their price was competitive.

Before joining Angie's list, I had called another air-conditioning company to come and deal with the problem of condensation build up and over-flow inside the part of the air-conditioning unit (the duct) that is located in the basement of the house. Water was all over the floor and causing problems. When the guy arrived he did not introduce himself and his pants were hanging around below his waist, so that I could see he was wearing purple underwear. Very unprofessional. I showed him where the air-conditioning system was in the basement and also pointed out where a similar problem had been 2 years earlier, behind a bolted grill on the front of the unit. He dismissed my statement (perhaps because I was a woman) and proceeded to blow out the drainage pipe on the back-side of the unit. He was LITERALLY there, in my house, for 5 minutes, and charged me $136.00! I was o.k. with it, if it fixed the problem. A couple days later, it became apparent that the problem was NOT fixed, because there was still water on the basement floor, even though a fan was blowing on the wet area to dry it up. I had used this same company for another air-conditioning problem and was just not sure I was getting 'knowledgeable' service. That's when I joined Angie's List. I was able to choose from a couple different air-conditioning companies in the area (and wanted one as close to home as I could find). The service man from Modern Comfort Systems came out earlier than stated, which was nice. He too, did not introduce himself, but at least his pants were up where they should be! He followed me down to the unit in the basement and listened to me tell him the same story that I had told the other guy before him... and he immediately went to look at what was going on behind the bolted grill. He found that the drain pipe was plugged closer the the unit... right at the exit point of the system in fact, and cleared that out at the right angle...4 feet further up the pipe than the other guy did. He actually took the pipe off the unit and took it outside to flush with a hose to make sure it was completely clean and clear. He then checked everything else to make sure things were as they should be and straightened the angle on the drainage pipe so the exit flow would be better. He was there for an hour, took his time to do the job and then explained to me what he had done and where exactly the problem had been. I was charged a bit more than the last company, BUT felt that this time the problem had been solved. MCS also offered a discount coupon that I used. (My hubby asked later that evening if the excess water had been bailed out of the over-flow tray... but it had not been.) Within a couple days of the fan blowing on the floor, the wet dried up and we haven't had a problem since! Yeah!!! If anyone asks me if I know a decent air-conditioning company to recommend, I'll tell them Modern Comfort Systems in Westminster, Maryland! And, I will use them AGAIN myself if I have any problems in the future.

We have been using them for many years. We pay a yearly fee that includes the maintenance. I don't know how much we spend. I think their pricing is good. My husband pays the bill. The job was fine. According to my husband, they did what they were supposed to do and the price was reasonable. I wasn't here when they came. My husband thought everything was fine when the person came out to do the work.

It was great. The guy was informed. It sounded like he had worked there for a long time, maybe 10 years. He went through all of the parts and everything. He knows his way around, and the whole neighborhood was installed by this company.

Their rates increased; however, considerably after a period of time pretty dramatically and couldn't afford their trip fees and increased service contracts anymore, so I switched companies.

I have a maintenance contract with them and they take care of my furnace. They make an appointment and then come out. They are very professional and punctual too.

The air conditioning has an interior wall unit, but it has no ducts. I spent $16000 on their service. They were very professional, efficient, innovative, and they did excellent work. I haven’t had to call back for anything yet. The people I dealt with were topnotch. I will use their services again in the future.

Work as requested as performed with little clean up necessary afterwards.

Overall company was very responsive and honest. When problems developed in trying to replace supply pipes to existing aging inside tank, Modern Comfort was very good about showing us alternatives and letting us decide best route to go. We decided on a new fiberglass tank with a 30 yr warranty for outside. They installed it the next day and came back as soon as new oil was delivered to fully check the install and service the furnace. We are impressed with this company and look forward to having them service our HVAC system for many years to come.

They have been around for a while in this business and we are satisfied with them. I remember that a few years back we had trouble with our heat pump and they were able to come the next day and fix it. They have been doing good maintenance and we haven’t had any trouble at all.

They were knowledgeable, knew what needed to be done and showed up on time. The cleaned up after themselves as well.
