Many people believe that their car is the largest single source of air pollution for which they are personally responsible. But in fact, the average home causes the emission of more than twice as much carbon dioxide--the principal greenhouse gas--as the average car. This is because most of the energy consumed in our homes is produced by burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas. This pollution is actually a hidden cost for the energy We use, over and above the dizzying $110 billion Americans spend each year on their home energy bills that's nearly $1,300 per house. Much of this energy use is unnecessary because there are a variety of proven, widely available products on the market today (heating, cooling, appliances, windows, lighting, etc.) to drastically reduce your home's energy bills, and accompanying pollution. What's more, many of these products actually improve the comfort and livability of your home.

[Removed members name] unfortunately lived beyond our regular service area. However, since she is an Angie's List member, we were will to make the trip for an additional fee. We felt she would be better served by a closer contractor. We arranged for her to have her money refunded. She'll be a wonderful customer for an AL contractor who lives closer to her. We're sorry we couldn't do it for her.

The electrician replaced the fixture, tested it, and completed the work in less than 1 hour.

I was very unhappy to hear that I was going to be charged $160 for the visit when it was over...it was never mentioned to me when I set up the appointment that there would be any charge for a visit. I would not have set up the appointment had i known that it would cost that much. I found a cheaper quote for the project.

[Member name removed] Since the cost of a service call was explained during our conversation, I'm not sure why you thought you would not be charged. We don't add trip, gas, driving time or other charges which are included by many companies. Because we only charge for time and materials, there must be a minimum when we send a technician to your home. We're very sorry for the misunderstanding. Be regards Sharron Sharron L. The person I dealt with on the phone and scheduled an appointment with was a very nice person. They did come out and do the work. They completed the work quickly and everything was fine. They told me I needed to replace my circuit breaker panel completely. I agreed to have them do the work and to get back in touch with me later, but they never did. Their initial responsiveness was great, but their follow up was not.

Let me start with a wonderful business manager they have at JKJ. I called 2 days before Thanksgiving asking if they would be able to send someone to replace my old chandelier. At this point, I expected the answer would be "no". Sharon was a quick thinker and she said the owner himself might be available to do it. She told me she would contact me if he would not be available, otherwise to expect him between 7:30-9:00 AM. Mr. Jolivette called before coming over the next day and he installed the new chandelier, replaced a dead gfci outlet. He was tidy, polite, and informative. I enjoy when people who are experts in their field don't treat you as if you were a complete idiot but rather teach you a thing or two and they show you that they appreciate your trusting them to do the work properly. As a result of this pleasant experience, I am making JKJ Electric my go to electric company and I recommend them highly.

A professional job with nice guys doing the work. It was a slightly tough job, but they understood what I was looking for and helped me get it done by routing wiring to an upstairs closet in a 100-year-old house.

We called to get an estimate on a lot of electrical work for a house we just recently bought. The woman on the phone told us that they don't do free estimates, but that if you have someone come out for an hour to do some work they would be able to give us a rough estimate of the rest of the work. They ended up scheduling it for the wrong time (granted this was after we called right back and changed the time) so they showed up about 3 1/2 hours later than they were supposed to. The service man who came looked at the whole house which ended up taking about a 1/2 hour. Once it was over he said he didn't have time to do any work, but I was still charged for the full hour - $144 for the estimate that he wasn't able to give me at that time. Obviously we were pretty annoyed at having been billed for zero work and no estimate. He said he would give it to us in the morning, but two weeks later we haven't received anything. I've called three times now to receive the estimate and each time they tell me it will be sent tomorrow. I can't really comment on their work or their prices, but right now I'm done with these guys and out $144.

As a follow up to me not being satisfied with the light not working and no electricity to the fan I had installed. I phoned to tell them this was my issue and even though my initial service call was 1 1/2 ago Sharron sent someone to fix my issue. Paul arrived and saw that what I stated was indeed the case and was due to no error on my part. He connected it properly and showed me on the main system where it is located should a future problem occur. What I also found out is that it will only work in the summer months. He did a test and the whole time it worked while he was there, I shall see the results next summer. But I am satisfied with the service and follow up service I received.
Description of Work: Installed a light and connected electricity to fan. Had to update this service, because it was not working from prior visit. Sent

Paul arrived on time and ready to work. He did a great job installing a new fan in a location where there was no light outlet of fan. He even covered my baby's crib dresser and glider with plastic. And he rolled up the rug. He left the room spotless and my fan looks awesome. I keep on playing with the light switch and fan control.

Company arrived at scheduled time, introduced themselves, explained what they would do, asked if I had any certain spots on the roof I did NOT want the fan installed, and got to work. Took them maybe an hour and they cleaned up everything, made sure I was pleased and headed out. We have noticed a drastic difference in our upstairs temperature this summer with this fan combined with more attic insulation. We could not be happier with the fan!

Everything turned out okay. It took them about 2 hours to complete the work. The guy who came to install it, he didn’t really say anything. He just let us know when he was finished and then left. It was an average experience. Scheduling the Big Deal was easy. I called them because I hadn’t heard from them. I left a voicemail and then they called me right back.

They were outstanding. They were very accommodating, because that is the company that came in the middle of that horrific heat wave and they are the ones who figured out what was going on with the circuit board. They came in immediately after the fuse was blown. I had already tried myself to go down and figure out what was going on with the circuits and I could not do it. Then when he got here, he said to my daughter I hope your mom is not embarrassed at all as what I had to do is flip a switch but for some reason it was not working when I was doing it because I did that with all the switches. He was really lovely and he came and he fixed it, but he had to charge because he had to come out here. It did not impact the whole house, it just impacted the big freezer in the garage, so what he actually did was he removed the extension cord that came all the way into the house because we had to set the freezer to go into a different outlet. He cleaned up after something that really was not his responsibility. So he was really quite extraordinary that way.

Our home, built in 1954, needed an electrical " face lift". We solicited 4 different companies for estimates for the work and got an array of numbers ranging from $2,098.00 to $5,192.00. One company representative was too comfortable speaking with us and made a somewhat vulgar comment. The second representative was a father and son. The fourth company was a husband and wife team. We decided to hire JKJ Electric, Inc. because my communications with this company via e-mail was not only clear and concise but extremely prompt and courteous. I was impressed with Assistant Project Manager Christian Montano. Christian was familiar with the neighborhood, and presented professional, congenial and respectful. The well written, and itemized estimate was e-mailed to me on March 21, 2013. I was skeptical because the estimate showed that the additional work requested (not including the 200 amp upgrade) would be billed by the hours it would take to complete the job.. "Wha???!" I had visions of workers sitting down on my basement floor, drinking sodas, and talking about football to milk the clock. Another Angies List member mentioned that when JKJ did work for him, that they had to get a part from a local hardware store and he was charged for the time it took to locate and purchase the part. I called "Sharron" the office manager and asked for an estimated amount of time my prospective job would take, and asked what would happen if we needed a part for the additional work. I essentially came clean and explained my hesitations and objections for not trusting JKJ for my electrical work. Sharron could not have been more sympathetic. She explained to me (with an enormous amount of patience), that the estimated hours should not exceed a couple of hours. Additionally she added if we need a part for the work, there is a roving driver who would go to their Warehouse and return with it. Whew! ... Work was initiated.on May 29, 2013. Permits, County Inspectors and a lot of sweat somehow magically came and went, thanks to Victor. I love turning a light switch on and a light actually working, as well as not having four fuse boxes in my basement. Thank you JKJ ... you light up our lives!

We had a very positive experience. The team arrived within the time frame given, reviewed the work order with us and started to work quickly and efficiently. One task was part of an Angie's List deal and the rest of the work was not. The work order delineated the separation of the two tasks. The work area was left clean as it had started. We had guests visiting at the time the work was done. There was no disruption to our visit. Will hire them for other jobs that need to be completed.

I got 4 quotes for the aforementioned services- jkj electric was far and above the best experience overall. Warren came out and did a free estimate the day after I initially made the request. He was polite, answered all my questions, and gave me a terrific breakdown of different options (LED vs Regular recessed lighting) on the estimate (he emailed me the estimate about 4 days after the in-home walk through). A few weeks later after getting all the other quotes jkj electric still remained our top choice coming in with the lowest estimate . I contacted Warren and he set up an appoint for two electricians to come out and do the install (1 master electrician and 1 assistant)- all while working with my schedule. I was easily able to set up the appoint for the work to begin about a week after I called. (By the way Warren communicates great over email and the phone so I felt like there was constant communication.) Jason and Ray came at exactly 8am to start work and finished everything by 5:15 - even cleaning up before they left. Jason did a superb job of installing the recessed lights - he was very careful to cut our plaster, so much so that we didn't have any damage and will not have to do any more than a few dabs of paint to the ceiling around 3 of the 8 lights. I can't say enough about how good it all looks. I thought we had way too many things on our list for them to accomplish in one day, but they did it all! Ray did a great job installing 3 ceiling fans - there were light fixtures there previously that he removed then reinforced for the fan boxes (no mess in any of the bedrooms after installation) - all fans work great with no wobble. Ray also converted the exterior outlet. Jason did all the recessed lighting and wiring and drilled a hole in our living room floor for a flush floor outlet. Looks great and he did an amazing job concealing all the wiring in our basement. Then both Ray and Jason cleaning up and moved all my furniture back into place before leaving. I paid by credit card after they left by calling the office and talked with Sharron who was very pleasant - and still there at 6pm to take my call. Then I asked how much it would be and she told me the total cost of work would be exactly as written on the estimate - $2345.00. I would highly recommend the crew at jkj electric to anyone. Thank you guys for the great work and fast, easy service!

We are licensed to diagnose and repair electrical problems, not fixtures or equipment. I'm sure that why Paul suggested a handy man might repair it for you. Paul is usually very polite and pleasant, going out of his way to be helpful.I'm sorry you feel you were not treated in this manner. I originally called them to put in some GFCIs on outlets, but was talked out of it once I described in detail what I needed. They charge a flat hourly rate plus (very) reasonable material costs. I was very happy with this service, they were timely and helpful from the first call to the end of the visit. Since he came with mostly the GFCI's he only had 1/2 the outlets he needed for the work, but used mine without even blinking. Again, I saved their number and will use them in the future if I ever have need.

Overall I was pleased with the work. I received an estimate over the phone for the job. The 2 man crew showed up when promised. I showed then where I wanted the outlets installed an they did just that. Clean-up was so-so but not a big deal to me as I was doing work in that room myself. The only thing I was not pleased with was when they (the workers) wrote up the work order, I noticed he charged me for 2.5 hours of labor when they were only there for 1.5 hours I questioned them about this and also advised them that they didn't include my Angie's list discount. No fuss over my questioning hours or discount, it was changed on the spot. Pays to double check any companies work orders and/or bills.

JKJ offered one of the more reasonable quotes and Joe the electrician came out and was personable and quick; performing the entire job in less than an hour (and they were charging by the hour - so we appreciated the speed). They were a little late for the appointment due to unavoidable traffic (the Beltway was shut down due to an accident ) - but Joe called twice while en route to keep me posted on on his ETA. The work quality was good, they were polite and courteous and we would highly recommend them and hire them again.
Description of Work: We called around to several electricians to get quotes on replacing 10 outlets (one had no ground), removing and shutting off power to an unwanted light fixture, and disconnecting the motion sensor from an outdoor light (so that it would work on a switch).
