Bentz Electric

Even though my repairs are complete, I'm not satisfied because I spent way too much money for a short period of time. Repairs took only 10-15 minutes. I was hit with $175 bill. The electrician left a mess on my counter top, my wall exposed from where the previous electrician left holes in my wall, and he did not put anything back that he moved in order to complete the repairs. I will never use the company again, nor will I recommend them to anyone else. I am little upset that they were recommended by Angies List.

It was fine. They did the job and they knew what they were doing.

They are honest people and they do what they say. Workers were very friendly and professional.

John was responsive, clear about scheduling issues, was super friendly while doing the work, and even patient and responsive with my questions days after the work was complete.

He cut out a 3 foot hole in my drywall in the kitchen which was just remodeled. He used and unsized ground wire to extend a short wire. He installed the electrical panel upside down. And refused to repair the drywall. I will never recommend and not use again. Very high price. Not sure why he was award by angies list as anything other that Rip-Off. Horrible...

The inspection went well however the flickering light was not fixed the first time around. I was told it was the light switch or the room needed to be rewired for $225. I paid $175 for the light switch replacement which didn't solve the problem. The person that came the second time was great bc he concluded the light kit was faulty as I suspected. Charged me 225 to replace the light structure. I wish the second guy was there from the beginning bc i could've saved money since the first diagnosis was not correct.

It went well. They had to buy some additional electrical materials like wires so I guess I paid another $150. Generally, communication was good. It took a couple of tries to get in touch with them initially but once I made that contact, it was good. Pricing was good.

Jeremy and Sean were the electricians that performed my job. They arrived on time, were courteous and efficient. The work was performed quickly, and I was shown the problems encountered along the way and an explanation of would be done. They cleaned as they went, and were finished in a couple hours. They are a small business and I received the care and attention you would expect from a small firm. I highly recommend them.

They told me everything that would happen in advance. They made the holes as small as possible. They cleaned up everything. I knew in advance that I would have to hire a drywall person to repair - no problem. They solved a difficult problem in the best way possible.

Not so good. It took several tries to schedule a date/time for them to come out and view the system (what I paid for through Angie's List). They said they would send a written estimate for the work we really needed done (major work). They never followed up and it has been several weeks now. He told us he would send us an estimate via email that following week. We are not very impressed. I would imagine that timely communication would be critical to build a customer base. Apparently they do not want our business and we will begin our search again.

It was okay. The cost was what they claimed it to be. The workers were okay.

Quick visit to check on electrical of the house. Asked for additional estimate for other work and it seemed reasonable.

Bad, my zip code was not part of their servicing area

John Bentz was extremely rude. He said (and this is a direct quote) - "I'm not longer doing those free-99 deals, if you want work performed you have to pay $1200 like everyone else". His delivery, approach, etc. was extremely rude. Delivery of a tough message is one thing, but HOW you deliver the message makes the world of difference in having repeat customers, etc. I suggest that Angie's List and Bentz figure our where the disconnect is.

Quick, clean work, and completed all tasks on our list within the time requested.

The job went well. They did a great job. They were punctual and professional.

Bentz electric did a really good job with the various items that I needed them to repair / install. The team of 2 professional electricians was very knowledgeable, and they were able to show me a couple places where prior electrical install had been done incorrectly. They got most of my items done in the time allotted, were efficient, pleasant to work with, and I also learned a couple things along the way. I highly recommend them, and the Angie's list deal currently going on is an excellent value.

Seemed like nice people on initial call. His schedule in Angies list indicated he was available next day, I paid then the story changed to two weeks out. He did come as I had rolling blackouts, he determined meter may be failing, said he had to put in paperwork to pull meter for Pepco. He texted back and said would be following Tuesday . At this point I have had him at my home 45 minutes. I left the garage door open and he did come out on Tuesday to install an outlet by the fuse box per the note I left and reinstall the meter. The clocks stopped in my home when he pulled the meter so I know what time he got to that point. That night the problem persisted and I notified him to which he responded it is Pepcos equipment failing so I called Pepco for an emergency power up as he indicated it was their problem. The Pepco technician came out and pulled the meter and direct connected my home which resolved the problem. He said I needed a new electrical box as the points were corroded and was a little confused that a licensed electrician didn't see that immediately. The entire event of pulling the meter, direct wiring and recovering the box along with pleasant conversation took 35 minutes. Here's the rub...I paid for 8 hours from Benz, I texted him about reinstalling a new box with time remaining on my eight hours...he said it was used up with paperwork, 2 electricians at my home for three hours and he kindly absorbed the price of the outlet. I'm no electrician but I can install an outlet next to a fuse box with new fuse in 45 minutes. The Pepco guy spends 35 minutes doing exactly what he claims 2 men did in 3 hours...it just don't add up. I gave them an A for the work they actually did because clearly they know how to do the work, however, math appears to be an issue so the rest of the scores are pertaining to value. At the end of the day, I got an outlet and a pulled meter for $400, steep by even Montgomery county standards. It appears that many people have had great reviews for him but it is my fault for si ply trusting what he was charging for rather than hold him to account step by step so I would have had the opportunity to challenge him as we went along. I will give Benz credit for teaching me NEVER to trust someone to do work while you are not there to bird dog them every step of the way.

On May 28, 2015 we purchased a package for an Panel Replacement from Bentz Electric through Angie's List. At first things appeared to go well. I was able to arrange the date of service easily through Angie's List Message System. I had originally suggested that they come out in order to look at what needed to be completed. They stated that they would prefer to complete the work the same day. When they arrived they suggested some additional work that needed to be completed and we agree to the addition work as it was needed. The additional work was adding and additional outlet to the room in which the panel was located in. They completed the work and everything appeared to be fine. A few months later we decided to have solar panel installed on our roof. This process was going smoothly until it was time for the inspection. An inspector came out and refused to clear our panels as the grounding and bonding for our electrical panel was not done correctly, and that their was no record of a permit being pulled for this work. He explained that he will not clear out panels until the work on the panel in corrected. We immediately called Bentz electric and explained what was going on. We made an appointment for the company to come out and to discuss what needed to be done. Five minutes before our appointment I received a phone call from Bentz explaining that they are unable to pull permits in Anne Arundel County and that they will not be coming out. This was rather surprising to us since Anne Arundel County was listed as a service area on the package that we purchased! The was our first time that we have ever hired a company to make repairs in our home and I suppose were naive in thinking that they would take care of everything, especially being a company that we made a purchase with through Angie's List. Now I will know better. At this point we are at a stand still, we cannot use our Solar Panels, Bentz can't or won't come to fix the problem, and we have reached out to other electric companies to come assess our situation however they refuse to pull permits on another company's work. Overall we are incredibly disappointed with our experience with Bentz Electric.

Arrived 1 hour late, but quality of work and professionalism made up for it. Made sure all their mess was cleaned up after completing each phase of work.

I can't recommend this company highly enough. Their service and professionalism were second to none. The team arrived, assessed our projects, and went right to work. They were extremely professional, making suggestions along the way that made the projects better once completed. I absolutely felt confident with everything they did, and felt like we had a real team of experts helping us. On top of that, they were all just really friendly and easy to deal with. I am certain we will use their services again.

Two workers spent almost exactly 4 hours, for a total of 8. They were professional, polite, patient, friendly, thorough, and arrived on time. They needed to supply a few parts and the charge was nominal. I was very pleased and would recommend them.

The reason for the negative review is based on the level of follow up that I have had to do to simply get a quote so I could give this company business. I received the service in December and was relieved to know that the electrical situation was not dangerous, but no one followed up with me as discussed for the recommendations made that I wanted to address. I sent an email through Angie's List late January about never receiving a quote and received a response a few days later asking me to call him. I wasn't able to follow up until 2/29/16. I had a conversation with the owner, who said he would be able to have someone come out on Friday 3/4/16 between 9 and 10 am to essentially review the house again in order to provide the quote. I sent him a text message where I provided my email and physical address and confirmed the date. He was a no call, no show. Everyone does forget appointments/meetings from time to time, but it's a day later and I still haven't heard anything from him. This has just been a very frustrating process and even though everyone at the company has been very polite when I have interacted with them, it's just been too difficult to get the work done. I'm going to find another electrician on Angie's List to help me complete this work.

The two person team arrived around 10am. They called me earlier to say they would be a little late, since their regular truck had broken down. They got to work quickly and were able to complete everything except one minor item on my list in the 4 hour window. They were very competent, knowledgeable and courteous. I paid $399 for 8 work hours of labor [2 electricians for 4 hrs] with the 'Big Deal' promo. I feel I got excellent licensed electrical work at a reasonable rate and would hire Bentz Electric again. Some Details: I had all the replacement parts, but not the supplies, such as wire, fan boxes, etc. Unfortunately, since they did not have their regular work truck, they did not have a lot of spare materials with them...just the most essential stuff. I was able to come up with a few odds and ends [junction boxes etc] from my leftover renovation stash, but I ended up having to run to a hardware store a couple of times for stuff I didn't have on hand. I would rather have paid them for the supplies, even at a mark up, to avoid leaving the job site and running around for materials. But, stuff happens, and this situation does not alter my 'A' rating for the excellent quality and quantity of work.
